Boot Mgr missing

System displays BOOT MGR missing press alt/con/del. Doing  built in system test HD test ok. Anyone hav an idea as to what is wrong.
I can't get on line to do anything. Hp down loads will not let me build a disk on another computer
thanks
Bob

Boot Manager missing has to do with the way Windows starts.  HERE is a Microsoft page that describes how to fix the problem.  However, I would assume none of those options are user friendly enough for the average consumer user.
I would make sure there is nothing in the DVD/CD drive and no other USB devices connected, except for the keyboard and mouse, and then try to startup again.  It could be something connected caused the OS to check in the wrong device for startup files.
Next, if things are no different, make a startup repair disk either on a working Windows 7 machine or get a retail install disk for Windows 7 or Vista.  Boot to that and then pick repair starup instead of install.

  • Win 7 Home Premium Restore error 0xe0ef0003 - Boot Mgr Missing - on Pavilion s5257c desktop

Hi.  I have a Pavilion s5257c with Windows 7 (64bit) installed.  The computer had been going to blue screen and memory dump randomly for several months.
I decided to do a system restore with previously created recovery disks.  Did not work and received the 0xe0ef0003 error.  Tried several times and always hung-up on the 3rd recovery disk.  Ordered HP recovery disks for desktop (5 disks).  Have tried recovery many times, using the HP Recovery Disks and still hangs on the 3rd disk with the same error.  Ran PC Doctor several times (provided with recover disk options), check HD OK, but has random memory fails (sometimes on high bit test, sometimes low bit test, sometimes checkered pattern, etc).  Tried formatting the HD with Kill Drive (free version) which does a simple 0 write in formatting.  Same error comes up with recovery disks after HD format (tried 2 times).  Tried a Win 7 Install ISO, downloaded from internet (several times).  Still cannot install Win 7 or restore PC.  Same error at same stage (3rd disk) of recovery.
Yesterday I found an ISO fix from the HP download center for the 0xe0ef0003 error, to fix some problems with certain PC video configurations during the system restore process.  From looks of my problem, seems I have the video config problem, but I do not know how to fix.  By the way, I can no longer boot from HD because system gives error (Boot Mgr Missing).
Any help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!  Thanks in advance!

    HOW TO FIX!
I ordered 3 system restore cd from HP as the system restore was not working on the computer,
I installed the 3 dvd...I got the 0x03f0001 message on the black screen.... Upon bootup I got the boot mgr missing of course because the 3rd (official cd from Hp) could not fully install. I ran HP diagnostic and everything  passed. I removed the memory and installed new memory. After 4 failed installs and 2 calls to HP, I was told that the computer was defective and it needed to be sent back.
I installed a new hard-drive and ran the restore cd from HP and got the message above upon boot up after the 3rd cd installed and the system rebooted. Just a reminder only keyboard and mouse was installed and I disconnected the flash ports which were located on the front of the computer. I also change the cmos battery and reset the bios to factory defaults. Still could not get those bloody windows 7 restore (offical HP) 64 bit home to install.
So after much frustration, I installed an hp windows vista cd from hp from another hp that I own. GUESS WHAT MY NOW DEFECTIVE COMPUTER DIAGNOSED BY HP... AS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE SENT BACK IS WORKING! WITHOUT PROBLEMS.
I DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED OEM WINDOW 7 CD and UPDATED THE SYSTEM. (NO PROBLEMS)
So Its the cd's, and those that think its a cdrom drive issue, I also replaced the cd rom with an official hp cd rom drive and I still could not get those restore cd to work.
THANKS HP, I spent 6 hours to realize that the bloody cd's that I many others have are defective.....

Can you post back with the following.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.

  • HELP! How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?

    Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
    Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)

WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.
    http://www.twocanoes.com/
Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.
    http://www.paragon-software.com/downloads/demo.html
I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
    OS X
    Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays.

  • Default Boot Device Missing after opening up Yoga

I had to open up my Yoga 13 to replace the yellow power plug. After I put it back together I immediately get the following error message:
Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed
Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key
Then Select Boot Manager to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media
I assume that I somehow managed to unplug the power or connection to the SSD but I cant find any lose cables.
    Please advice. Thank you.

When I click on F2 and look in the setup it says that no hard drives are detected, but I got two SSDs in the system.

  • HELP!!! Boot Device Missing!! Hard Disk Error!!!

I turned on my laptop and it said "Boot Device Missing" (it said Hard Disk Error sometimes) so I went in to the systen diagnostics and did a memory test (which I passed) and Hard Drive Check. I heard that if you pass the hard drive check you can fix this problem, but it said SMART Check and Short/Long DST was not available. I also went to the bios and I changed the settings to defaults (F9) and saved and exit (F10), tried shutting the laptop down, removing all the CD, USB, everything, and turned it back on, but those didn't fix the computer. I also watched some videos on Youtube that you can unscrew the bottom part and check the hard drive but I couldn't find where to unscrew and look for the hard drive. Is there any way that I can fix this without sending it to repair because I need to use this laptop everyday.

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used.
Your Maintenance & Service Guide shows what size hdds you can use. Also shows how to replace- or check connection for secure fit before replacing.

  • Boot MGR is missing on pavilion G6-1311sa laptop

i had a problem with my pavilion G6-1311sa laptop with windows 7 home premium 64bit, had the error message saying hard disk had failed
I contacted hp and they sent me out a new HDD and 4 cd's, 1 was a recovery cd and the other 3 i cant remember what they are for, think its also part of the recovery kit.
After replacing the old HDD with the new 1 i turned laptop on and tested the new HDD and memory, they both passed.
So i put the recovery cd in and all went well, even got the message saying recovery is complete, restart computer
When i restarted it i put cd 1 of 3 in and it had 3 parts to load, restore to factory settings (i think it said that) copy files needed to restore ard drive and, copy files to hard drive, it goes through the 1st stage no problem but then sticks at 24% every time it tries to copy the files, and gives me this message: copy files failed from D:\PRELOAD\BASE19.SWM to C:\RM\image\BASE19.SWM
i have tried 4 times now with the same result.
What shall i do? Please help

  • HDX 16 1370 us notebook/ Windows 7 upgrade/ Boot Manager Missing hit ctrl + alt _ delete to restart

Hard drive was going south. I replaced it with new one. The original OS was Vista but I had upgraded to windows 7 a year ago. I placed the Windows 7 CD into the optical drive and windows begin to load. I got past the point of the screen that ask for language and so forth then my dog jumped on me and pulled the power cord from the computer. I plugged the cord back in and tried to restart the process. Now the first thing that happens is I get the message Bootmgr missing hit ctrl alt delete to restart.
I do not know what to do now.
I can't get into command prompt from shift+ F10, so I am totally lost. Is there any hope??
    Thanks

Are you saying that you inserted the Windows 7 upgrade disc to boot to? Was Windows Vista already installed on the hard drive? Have you run the hard drive test in BIOS?

  • After Deploying an Image: Windows Boot Manager - Missing ACPI.sys

    Hi,
I am currently working on deploying a Windows 7 Pro x64 image to a number of clients over our network using FOG. We used KVM in Ubuntu to build the base image. The image has a small virtual disk for the Windows installation and is deployed to clients with larger
drives. Prior to capture the image, we ran sysprep /generalize /shutdown /oobe /unattend:unattend.xml, then boot the VM to the FOG client and let FOG save off the disk image. We then deploy the image to clients over FOG.
FOG successfully copies the image over, then reboots the PC. The computer attempts to boot from the local hard drive, then fails at the Windows Boot Manager screen, saying:
    Windows boot manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause....
    File: \Windows\system32\drivers\ACPI.sys
    Status: 0xc0000098
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.
I've updated the client's BIOS, tried a different hard drive, used ATA secure erase to wipe the drive before formatting, and still encounter this same issue with certain client computers. Are there any other steps I can take to resolve this issue?
What files in Panther should I look at (or post) to troubleshoot? I don't see anything too obvious in diagerr, and sestuperr.log is just about empty.

We're using two models of 120GB SSDs, and deploying to 5 different motherboards (4 Intel models + 1 MSI model). The issue is most common with the DH55TC Intel boards.
We're using FOG due to budget limits--otherwise, WDT definitely would have been considered.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6c66nr - Win 7 HP 64 bits - Boot manager missing

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 with Win 7 Home Premium edition pre-installed, it is a 3.5 years old computer, seldom used by me.  As my previous computer with XP was close to the end of is life I decided to investigate if it was possible to use the Pavilion.
I intend to have the Pavilion with the windows 7 sp1 and HP drivers, so at startup I pressed f11 to enter HP Recover Manager, chose  “Minimized Image Recover” and the software installed the intended image
With windows 7 sp1 installed I install all windows updates till two days ago and also an handful of HP drivers updates
Then I made 1 bootable CD windows recover disk with windows, and 1 system image windows also, that I save to a usb hd drive
Everything was going ok but the cyberlink software could not connect with the computer embedded camera. I took several steps to solve the problem and it seems that the camera was not connected (hard disconnected).
I was not sure if before the minimized installation the webcam was operating well and once more I used HP “Recover Manager” to return to the full installation
As the web camera was not operating even with the full installation, I decided to return to the streamlined installation.
I tried a short cut to the original process, and instead of going to the HP Recover Manager and a once more update of windows and HP drivers I tried to use my previous produced system image with windows, so I went to Control Panel and used windows recover from the image, copying all to the same place (I was prompt to replace a lot of existing files). At the end of the process a received a message about same errors generated by the process but I do not investigated at that time.
When I reboot the PC I have a “BOOTMGR is missing/ Press Ctrl+Alt+Del” message and a blinking prompt
Now if I attempt Recover Manager to do a “minimized image recover” I receive an 0xEFFFFF08 error code and if I tried the full image after a rather short time it announces that the 1st stage is finished and it goes boot to proceed with the second half of the process, it goes off and reboot with the “BOOTMGR is missing/ Press Ctrl+Alt+Del” message and a blinking prompt
Can anyone helps me? I have no HP recover disks (it seems that HP do not sell rescue disks anymore for pavilion dv7 and Win7)
    Happy 2015 for all

Create a System Repair Disk on another Windows 7 computer to use your computer if it fixes anything.
If you live in the USA/Canada, call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and see if you can still get a set of recovery disks otherwise the WorldWide site:

  • Corrupt Boot Manager / Missing Windows 8 Pro

Please assist with the following as I have read too many forums and attempted to resolve without success.
Problem: unable to boot into Windows 8.0 due to corrupt boot manager or missing boot manager.
Observed:  Harddisk is recognized within bios. The disk cable is firmly connected. I hear the disk spinning. Bootrec commands have completed successfully.
    Attempted to resolve by:
    1. Bootrec commands (but will still will not boot).
    2. Factory disk repair command
    3. Ran chkdsk commands (there was some clusters that need to be reorganized).
My primary concern is that I need to access my data on the drive.  Is there a file that I can download and install that will act as my new boot manager?  Or how can I access the drive?  Pulling it of the computer and installing in an HD dock
seemingly will not work because I need the bootmanger fixed?
    Please advise.  Many thanks,

    Hi,
Firstly, I need to confirm your system edition, as you said unable to boot into Windows 8.0 but your provide this problem at Windows 7 forum.
About bootrec command to fix the boot manager problem, I would like to suggest you refer to the KB again and try its process for test.
Use Bootrec.exe in the Windows RE to troubleshoot startup issues:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
If no use, please try to boot system into repair mode and using Startup Repair to fix system startup problem.
