Boot poblems with Asus M2A-VM mother board

I have been trying a couple of motherboards with AMD athlon 64 chips, including the Asus M2A-VM motherbaord.
I can't seem to get the kernel on either the Voodo or Duke install disks to go past the "Freeing unused kernel memory " stage.
I have tried all the options but as yet have had no joy.
Any suggestions?
(The non 64 bit version runs like a dog on the same motherboard, I mean slower than I would find acceptable on a 486!)

Update, The M2A-VM is the one with the AMD 690G northbridge and ATI SB600 south, and has more problems.
The one I am currently actually using is the Asus M2V-MX with a VIA K8M890 north, and VIA VT 8237A south.

  • M8530f desktop PC with a m2n78-la mother board doesn't see my drives

i have a m8530f desktop PC with a m2n78-la mother board it doesn't see my drives for some reason. i thought it might be a bios problem. is there any way to fix this or do i need to get another board

Before you begin, disconnect everything from the computer (USB devices, printers, floppy disks, and CD/DVD discs) but leave the mouse, monitor and keyboard connected. You already checked and made sure that the power and data cables have a good connection to your drives and the motherboard now go to your BIOS Setup (should be F10) and reset the BIOS to its' defaults (should be F5 and then press the enter key). Arrow over to the Main screen and the hard drive should be recognized. Exit BIOS and save the changes. The computer should load the Windows OS if it's installed on the hard drive. If you get into Windows, check the Device Manager to make sure that the drive is showing up there too. If the hard drive was not detected, after you save the changes and exit the BIOS, turn off the computer. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the PC then press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the computer and see if it boots up.  If it still doesn't boot up, try a different SATA connection on the motherboard (one that hasn't been used). If that doesn't help, disconnect the Memory card reader connections inside the computer and try to boot again. If it still doesn't work and since you already tried a new hard drive, I would suspect a SATA controller/bus problem and you may need to install a SATA controller card to resolve the problem.

  • FX5900XT-VTD128 Board hangs with Mother board ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and AMD Athlon 3000+

    Hello Folks,
Please, I need your Help !!!
I bought a new FX5900XT-VTD128 Board and I am trying to install it in my new PC and it hangs the PC. It has just frozen it and I can not access neither the Bios or anything else. If I use my old Nvidia 4, everything works fine. My Mother board is a ASUS A7NE8X-E de Luxe and Monitor is a LG Flatron 17" Model: T710SH. The Bios of my PC is the last version liberated by ASUS version 1012 E. My Processor is an AMD Athlon 3000+ DDR 400 - The PC has 1GBDRAM (DDR - 400).
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem ?
    Thanks,
    Mario

    Hi Kingfisher,
    Thanks for your help.
But the Video Cards hangs in the Boot moment, before MS Windows XP comes in and the driver begins to act. My concern is a hardware conflict or a incompatibility or even hardware defect.
What kind of troubleshooting is ideal ?
    Regards,
    Mario

  • PROBLEM WITH MS 7522 VER 3.1 MOTHER BOARD

    hey guys,
need some help here. my setup is a MS-7522 ver 3.1 mother board.
    6GB RAM
    MSI GEFORCE N470 GTX
    WINDOWS 7 PRO 64BIT
since i bought it from last year, its not stable and having an occasionally blue screen specially
when using it with heavy processing softwares such as 3dsmax and adobe cs4.
what i did the past 2 days ago is i reformatted and reinstall a fresh windows 7 pro OEM OS.
still, having some occassionally blue screen about memory management. i installed a whocrashed software
and diagnosed it resulting a driver problem and kernel stuffs.
another thing, when i update the win 7. it wont install almost around 70 important updates.
i also diagnose the RAM using the windows memory dump diagnostic but so far it succeeded the test.
i also tried to update the BIOS using a USB boot. im still having the same problem...
what can cause such problem? is it the motherboard, the ram, or the graphics card? driver issues maybe?
hoping i can find answers here and suggest what can i do to fix this.
    thanks.

Run memtest instead of windows memory dump to check the RAM.
What types of heavy processing are you referring to?
I ran CS3 and CS5 on my systems including laptops which runs on Win 7 64bit as well. All of them have no problems rendering images which are in PSB Large Format for Adobe which can be about 6GB per image. Usually, such rendering takes hours to complete and loads the system's memory the most.
If after testing the RAMs with memtest individually for at least 12 hours each and all return with no error, the only driver problem I will suspect is with graphics card, try downloading the latest driver from MSI website for the GPU and see if it solves the problem.

  • Weird Problem with Mother Board/CPU

English is not  my native language so if you don't understand something I will correct my post.
I bought a new PC 1 month ago.
    hxxp://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&product=425916&dlc=en&docname=c00189405
I only paid 50$ because the store did not know what was the problem.
I changed the orignal mother board for a 865g-m.
The computer always boot correctly until I add/remove hardware from it...
Last night I removed the the 256 mb dimm and replaced them with 2* 512 MB. It was working ok until I decided to put back the 256 mb DIMM to ad an extra 256 mb(without removing the new DIMMs). Since that my PC won't boot, my screen light stays orange, the hard drive don't make any sounds. The Back fan and the CPU fan are workging...
So I removed the 256MB DIMM and the PC still won't boot.
The last time I had this problem I reseted the BIOS/CMOS and the problem was solved. But sometimes I had to resest the bios a few times to solve the problem.
Now I tried to reset my bios 5 times and the problem is still here...
The PC speaker do not make any sounds.
I removed all IDE drives + the flopy drive + all the front and back USB/Firewire/on board sond card connecter
Could it be the CPU since I already changed the original mother board.
I think it's the CPU but could it be the power suply ?
Anyone already dealed with a similar problem ?
Is it possible that the CPU is making that kind of problem. (I added a 256 mb DIMM tried to boot with bad result so I removed the 256 mb DIMM and I cannot boot anymore)
    thanks
By surfing on the ECS website I noticed that my mother board SPEC are not the same as the one on this website... For exemple I have 2 SATA slot but on the product specification website there is none.. Even the product picture is not correct...
On this link you will find the website product spec :
    msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=495
On the second link you will find my  real mother board
    cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80159&item=6830055645
On my mother board there is a sticker with the name "865g-m"
Can anyone help ? Since I need the real motherboard spec if I want to change the CPU

Adding RAM = make sure you have the power!
My bet here is that your power supply is to blame. Your sig line says "compact power suply" and that cant be good. Most of the time manufatures try to cut down the costs but useing cheap power supplies.
Best case: its just your power supply that you need to get a quality name brand...antec..ocz..and so on.
Worst case: i have heard that sometimes the manufactures have a certain voltage on thier power supplies that will only work with thier mother baord. I heard that dell does this. So if you mix and match the psu and a different board...well it wont be good.
I say get new power supply, if that doesnt work just return it.

Just curios if the MSI H55M-E23 Mother Board is it compatible with Usb 3.0?
    Thank you!

if you are asking if its able to use a USB 3.0 Device then the answer is yes but it will operate at USB2.0 speeds only on the ports as they are only USB 2.0 ports and USB 3.0 devices are backward compatible and can be used on USB 1.0a and USB 2.0 ports but will work only at the USB revision speed its connected to!

  • MacBook with corroded mother board

I have a MacBook bought in early '07, within a year due to a water spill, the battery would not charge and so I could not startup my mac. If an already charged battery is used the mac functions fine but I cannot charge up the battery with the mac. When sent for servicing at one of the apple centers I was told that due to the water spill the mother board has corroded and it would cost me around 700$ to get this fixed. Since I could not afford this amount I did not get it repaired then. Now I want to do something about it. Can you let me know what best can be done with it - get it repaired or get it replaced?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If cost is a major stumbling point, look for used and refurbished Macs*:

If their prices are still too high, you can try to fix it yourself:

  • Poll: Do you have cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatal1t

    Hi guys:
I have post a thread regarding the cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream 600W SLI power supply combination. Apparently, no one has answer to that . In addition, I have recently RMA'd my psu and received a brand-new unit. The same problem still exists. If the problem is really with the power supply, doesn't matter what kind of the setup I have, I should still have the cold-boot problem. However, it doesn't seem like that. Doesn't matter what kind of cards I put on the motherboard, as long as the SB X-FI Fatalty card is there, there is cold boot problem (even with the setup of cpu, mother, ram, and the sound card only, WITHOUT video card and harddri've). And for other different setup without the SB X-FI Fatalty card, there is no cold boot. The cpu and memory are running at stock speed.
My post regarding the cold boot issue:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=79753
There is one user on the forum saying he has the same problem. Therefore, I think it might be the imcompatibility between the X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream PSU.
I would like to know how many people that has the same problem that I am having. So I can possibly narrow down the problem and contact OCZ tech support or creative tech support with more information. It would also be benefitical to those who have the same problem as I do.
Please post your system setup as well in the thread.
Greatly appreciate your opinions. Message Edited by White_Hair on 2-02-200604:58 AM

I would venture to say that it isn't your powersupply, but more likely the X-Fi. I had troubles with my system, until I pulled out my X-Fi and replaced it with a non Creative Labs sound card. One of my troubles, which I incorrectly blamed on my powersupply was the ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard I had and the X-Fi XtremeMusic card, was after gaming for 4 hours, was the?sudden reboot of my system. Powersupply before, was an Antec TrueControl 2 550watt PSU. As it stands right now, I no longer have the parts mentioned and have a decent 700watt powersupply in my system, along with an ABIT AT8 32X motherboard. As you have probably seen there are a lot of problems with the X-Fi soundcards, and I in my right mind can't blame the motherboard, powersupply, motherboard chipset, ram, or any other component in ones system, if one is having trouble other than the X-Fi itself. I'll be honest, there is something quite frankly wrong with the X-Fi, and exactly what that is, I'll probably never know like most people.

  • Video card to cupertino2 mother board

    Cheers!
I´ve got a HP Pavilion p6-2055sc with a motherboard cupertino2-H61-ua-TX, and i3 processor 2120. I am about to upgrade to a core i5-2500k. I am also considering a new graphics/video card compatible with the mother board. I am not looking for a high end graphics/video card since this would cost to much, require doing something about the power supply, etc (and thus I guess I could go for a new computer altogether). Do you know of an "affordable" and compatible card better than the nvidia gforce 520?

What is your BIOS revision? If it's 7, ok.  If it's 8, your into UEFI.  It's possible to get GPU's that do not have UEFI requirements.  Some readings to understand why WIN8 and UEFI are the newer system.
If you can get over the PSU hurdle, look at this UK seller for example.  Corsair 600W
If you go to this site, you can run various configurations.  I took the liberty of linking "Assassins Creed IV".  You enter various specs, and it gives you "values" based on these specs.  If you want to enter a different game, either google into the site with that game name, or use the "Can I Run It" tab.  Then you need an account, but it's free.

Mother board of my laptop had to be replaced. meanwhile i had used hard disk from my laptop as external hard disk without formatting. After replacement of motherboard i have reconnected the same hard disk without formatting. but system does not boot up to operating system.

I have this issue before, in my case, its ribbon cable issue. dv9000 have two ribbon cables the one that have broken is the long one, (connect mobo to switch panel). However there is other possibility that the switch panel also broken.
Try buying the ribbon cable first, it is much cheaper compared to switch panel.

  • Apple Hardware Test : mother board problem : post/16/64

I'm having this problem since last month. My computer won't boot properly, aligning lines and lines on the screen saying there's a problem with cpu 1 or cpu 0. I reset all Xram I could find, reset the PMU, changed the battery...
Finally, I used Apple Hardware Test that gave me this message : post/16/64 on mother board at startup. Then, when I run the tests, everything's OK !
I manage to boot from time to time with 10.4.7 only, other installed systems won't do it.
Would anybody have a clue about this ?
    Thanks for reading me.
My computer is 4 years old, it worked well until then, I want it back, fully fitted.
I have screen shots that I can share if needed.

    Hi,
I have some good news for you all : I finally decided to open my machine and see what's inside...
I took a small paint brush, a screwdriver, a pressurized air bomb (hope you call it this way) and cleaned all the inside. I had some parts taken off, even the big thing that gets heat from the processors. My brother, who knows more than I do about the subject even advised me to unplug the processors, supposedly connected on a ZIF card (Zero Insertion Force card). I didn't manage to make them move at all. I took memory bars away, the video card too, to make place for the screwdriver to unlock the (radiator ?). Then I brushed all the dirt away, there was plenty, and put everything back inside.
It works fine, it really does. So, I guess and hope this will last for an other 4 years.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Quasi-boot problem with TI/Pwrbk

I 10.4.11 but not the most recent security updates and a 667Mhz Ti G4 Pwbk Onyx/DVI and new 40G hard drive that works fine also have with 512 SDRAM
Problem is that only sometimes, when I power-on I hear whirring etc...but never get a gray screen ergo no apple and no boot yet the machine is putting out plenty of heat lookinf for start-up disk
I've used the option key and that sometimes work but it same percentage of iffyness whether I use it or not and whether machine will boot or not.
I've read archives for this problem and have reset PRAM ---little button under right side of keyboard--- several times but problem always comes back after a couple of reboots.
Interesting that after I reset PRAM the first time i boot I hear the apple tone.
That is the only time I ever hear that tone on this machine, whether it goes ahead and boots fine or not.
Also get very infrequent kernal panics but the not booting or only booting after several retrys or reseting PRAM.
I guess its just and old machine not designed fro 10.4 and maybe it just needs a new battery --not PRAM batt--- as this one does not hold a charge for very long if at all, and maybe more RAM would make a differrence.
What can I expect from a machine this old for only $245? Problay not much more than I'm getting.
Still, considering how much it was new I like it.
    Ran

Hi karbon, yeah its not pram battery and probably not anything to do with the main battery either, since hearing you have poor batt. also with no starting problems like i have, plus I'm now finding out my wifes new used, ibook 12" inch with a good batt. is also having similar starting black screen problem.
Yes I did install the HD myself, but computer runs fine and all is very stable, except for once in a month kernal panic. Not much of a problem.
Had only just bought the computer and it booted ok first and only time I tried it, so first thing I did was check HD with my OS 10.4 disc and found out the HD was going bad in red letters.
The OS I have installed is from the one of the original 10.4 releases and it was a 5-pak, altho the installation on my my Pwrbks new HD drive was about the 9th installation with that 5-pak.
I'm always amazed how I can keep doing installations beyond the 5-pak limit it was sold as.
THe HD has passed no problem and I'm the very conscientious type when it comes to repair permissions before and after any Apple updates and with most of my application installations.
I've had the computer for about a year now but the problem only began a few months back. For while usiing the option key when powering on would by-pass the problem but after while it didn't.
So, now I've come to discover, that it that after twto times of powering on an then off, it will boot ok on third time, tho currently it is powring on first time every time with no problem. :--)
Querky issue that I can live with.
My wife 12" ibook has a design flaw with the bluetooth/wifi card or at least its connector to mother board.
It has begun to also take three or four power ons before it will finally boot.
It has additional quek tho, where I will ask me to "mac-boot" and then I get the flashing "?" folder alternating with mac icon. So pwr off and it always boots find after this flashing episode.
We have left the wifi/bluetooth turned-off and will probably have the card removed and get a USB wifi.
Thx again for your supportive reply...
I wonder if it something with these older macs and the new updates that cause this problem?

  • Which is dead, CPU or Mother board?

My pismo does not boot up. After pushing the start button.
I assume it is CPU that is dead, but I would like to confirm.
    Here is the sympton.
I hear chime. Internal harddisk seems to be spinning.
Nothing on screen. just stay black.
I tried PRAM reset, T-mode start, etc.. no response.
I tried to unplug the internal harddrive from the mother board. no response.
I tried to boot up without RAM, no response..
    what do you think?

    Kozo,
I believe you probably have the G3/900MHz upgrade card once offered by PowerLogix.
Although no longer in the archives, this post describes your symptoms and the fix.

My faithful pismo (500, 512MB, 30GB) is giving me problems. It chimes, but the screen remains blank. I can hear the hard drive spin up, but not start to read as usual, and no processor noises etc. I have tried different drives; nothing. Can't boot from CD, because it will not look for drives (holding down option, or C, or Command-option-shift-delete do nothing either). It was behaving erratically, booting sometimes with some working at it... re seating the processor etc. My thought is that the processor or L2 cache is shot... but I don't know. I am looking for a working Pismo to swap processors with, so that is my next step. If anyone has a better guess at the problem, or has experienced the same and found a solution, please let me know. I know it is time for an upgrade, but I am hoping to make it to next fall (G5 I hope.) Luckily I have a Dual G5 on my desk at work...

I bought a new (used) 500 MHz processor, and I am back in business. So, I do not know whether it was the L2 Cache or the processor itself, but it started right up. Anyone know of a good use for my old processor? Is there any business that will buy them? Why would they? I don't know.

I believe you would be safe in replacing the microprocessor card. The Daystar G4/550MHZ upgrade cards are actually faster than the G3/900MHz when running applications that are written to take advantage of the G4's AltiVec hardware. I would stay away from the 900MHz cards due to their age and their problematic history.

     Previous Note(s)

You must to make a bootable floppy disk first, and then start with the flashing procedure. If you aren't familiar with the procedure, follow this steps:
Make your floppy drive as primary boot device in BIOS
Download the BIOS that match your motherboard model and version number.
1.Extract the BIOS that you have downloaded by double click it and extract it to a blank formatted floppy disk.                                                  2.Boot the system with a bootable floppy disk
         a.    A Windows 98/ME startup disk can be used
         b.    Or you can create an MS-DOS startup disk under Windows XP.To create an MS-DOS startup disk under Windows XP, right click on the 3 ½ floppy drive icon under my computer and select format. On the format dialog box, check the box next to “Create MS-DOS startup disk” and then click the start button to make a MS-DOS startup disk.
3.Once you boot off of the bootable floppy disk, replace the bootable floppy disk with the floppy disk containing the bios files.
4.In DOS at the A:\ prompt, you will type in the following command
         a.    A:\FLASHUTILITY BIOSFILE.VER
         b.    The flash utility will be the .EXE file included in the BIOS you downloaded. For example: ADSFI712.EXE = BIOS FLASH UTILITY
         c.    The BIOS file will end with the version number you downloaded. For example:
    A6728ims.210 = BIOS file version 2.10
5.To update the BIOS using the example above you would type the following command.
