Boot Problem with K8n Neo 2 Platinum
I cant get my Computer to load the bios
Sometimes when I restart my computer it will lock up in the Bios Sign on and the only way to get it to boot through is to keep resetting the computer and turning the power off and on. It does this on a random basis, Ive also had problems with it locking up if the dynamic oc is turned on.
Has anybody heard of this happening or know how to fix it?

Corsair memory is known to be troublesome with AMD64.
Nevertheless, if everything is set correctly, it'll work. I've been running the LLPRO 3200 1GB kit at 220MHz without any noticable problems. Run a couple of rounds with Memtest86+ to verify memory functionality.
Can you please give your specifications on the power supply unit (PSU), especially the amperage on the +12 volt rail.
Anders.

Boot problems with K8N NEO Platinum(no video). SOLVED
I have this board for a few months now, but this week, when powering the system, it gave me no video.
It reads the HD and after a little while all the lights in the D-Bracket go green. But still no video.
There are other simptoms that can help the diagnosis: sometimes i do get video, the system powers up perfectly. This happens when I repeatedly press the reset button, or try powering on and off, on and off...
I don't think it is cold boot problem, since when I successfully turn on the system and then turn it off, the same boot problem occurs I I try turning it on again.
Another thing is that when I turn it off through Windows, it doesnt actually turn off: the screen ges black, but the HD leds still blink for a looong time. I have to turn it off manually, then. Sometimes it actually turns off, but turn itself on again after 1 second.
So if the D-Bracket sais its all good, then what is bad?
My System specs are
Athlon 64 Venice 3000
1 Gb Corsair DDR
Leadtek Geforce 6600GTQuote from: cyberoll on 19-April-06, 19:18:18
Its solved now. There was a short circuit. The rouded isolators were placed in the upside of the board, and they should have been under the board. I changed it and all the problems are gone.
Such a little thing... :D
What is a "rouded isolator" and where is it located. I would like to see if this will fix my problem. The same thing is happening to me.

Post problem with K8N Neo Platinum
I am assembling a system for a friend and it hangs according to D-Bracket2 on Processor initialization (Led 1:red, led 2:green, led 3: green led 4: red)
Specs
PSU: Codegen 350W ( 3,3V 14A
5V 30A
12V 15A )
VGA: Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
CPU: AMD Athlon 3000+
HDD: Seagate 7200.7 120GB in SATA1-port
DVD: MSI DR8-A DVD Burner
RAM: M-Tec 512MB DDR400
If the problem is the processor it should hang on Power On (all leds red), right?
There's some damage done to CPU fan connector so the sensor wire from the CPU fan might have no connection to the mobo. How about ESD-damage, can it cause this?
Another thing I might have done wrong is connecting front panel connectors.
I am just hoping and praying that the processor is OK and the mobo causes this. Thanks to RacerX for answering but the problem wasn't the PSU.
Mobo caused it and I replaced it. I think it was the physical damage I mentioned in the first post. I also changed hdd from SATA1-port to SATA3-port but I don't think it matters.
Now everything works fine so +12V/15 Amps is enough.
Does the K8N Neo Platinum hang on Processor Init if it doesn't detect CPU Cooler? -
Boot problems with K8N Neo FSR
Recently i bought a new MSI K8N Neo FSR mainboard and an Athlon64 3000+
I noticed that a lot of people on this board had problems when booting Windows XP
I had the same problem: Every time i tried to boot Win, it freezed at the Win XP logo.
It seems that the problem is my cordless logitech keyboard.
When i'm using a standard PS/2 keyboard i have no problems booting.
Are there any known problems with nForce3 based mainboards and cordless logitech keyboards?
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem? There just seems a problem with some mobos and keyboards.
Usually it's a PS2 thing, but looks like you have found another to add to the list.

D-BRacket 2 and keyboard cordless problem with k8n neo platinum
hi
i have two problems
the d-bracket2 doesn't work
when my game controller is on , it isn't recognized by Win XP
but the 4 leds are green.
i tried the two connectors and it's the same thing.
my logitech cordless keyboard doesn't work in the bios
i tried with the ps2 but the keyboard didn't work in XP
i check the bios with an other keyboard and the usb keyboard support is enabled
can you help me ?
PS: Sorry for my englishHi galette,
Do you have a k8n neo or neo2 ?
At least some neo2's have problems with ps/2 keyboards. Their users could circumvent this by using usb keyboards.
I have a logitech cordless desktop myself and for me it works. Perhaps you can borrow a usb keyboard to test it ?

Display problems with K8N Neo Platinum
I have XP Professional installed on my Raptor fine, but I am having issues with my Radeon 9800. I cannot boot XP unless I hit F8 and then select "Enable VGA Mode"
When I do not enable VGA mode, my monitor goes blank right before the Welcome screen.
Moving along...now when I boot with "Enable VGA Mode" I cannot change ANY monitor settings. If I increase the resolution from 640x480/8bit to, let's say, 800x600/32bit, the screen will go blank for a few seconds and then a black screen with a white blinking cursor at the top left corner will show. After this, my monitor just completely shuts off and I am forced to restart.
I also had problems with the ATi Control Panel. The ATi driver package installed fine, so I rebooted but when Windows started, I received an error message saying that ATi Control Panel could not load.
I'm baffled right now and I really don't know what to do. Any help is appreciated, thank you guys very much. You might want to try and reinstall the video drivers and make sure that you uninstalled the old ones fully with Driver Cleaner.

Cool & Quiet Problem with K8N Neo Platinum
Hi!
I just formatted my windows xp and encountered weird problem with Cool & Quiet.
Before the format CQ worked perfectly, but now when I apply minimal power management from the properties Windows freezes.
I have 1.2.2.2 drivers installed and CQ enabled from BIOS.
BIOS has been updated to 1.7, 1.9 bugged for me.
Windows XP SP2 + all hotfixes.Quote from: aicjofs on 09-October-05, 02:49:29
If all he has done is "reformat" windows what would have changed in the BIOS magically? Still seems like the driver to me...Troubleshoot what has obviously changed since things worked normally. If he didn't touch the BIOS and only reinstalled Windows the driver is the logical issue.
Ugh...even in that linked article the guy is saying the HyperTransport is the link between the CPU and Chipset/RAM. There goes this RAM thing again. The memory controller communicates with the DRAM controller no Hypertransport about it...
ok, but where is DRAM controller? in CPU my friend and in Athlon 64 is DRAM controller in CPU so this is HyperTransport - comunication with CPU and memory...no only me has this mention but also another guy and another, so all of us are wrong yout think? -
Problem booting up with K8N Neo platinum
Turned my PC off last night fine, come home today and turn it on and it wont boot up, it gets stuck on the post, and i hear (www.freewebs.com/deanaldo/bios.wav, might need to turn ur sound up to hear it) noise from the bios and it repeats itself every 5seconds or so, my bios is Phoenix Award i think, can anyone diagnose this for me?
My system specs are
amd64 3400 cpu
1 gig ram
x800 XTPE graphics card
XP Pro(SP2)
I have tried swapping the memory about but that aint worked, I ahve took out alll unnescary stuff all my PCI cards etc. and still have this problem, I have reset the CMOS, it just gets stuck on the post and wont go into the bios and plays that anooying sound, i found somewhere that says those beeps may be " Timer not operational" a mo/bo problem
The only thing I havent been able to change is the memory as I have no other sticks to put in
I just want to know if its a mo/bo problem or memory,is someone able to diagnose this for me and possibly tell me how to fix it, if its possible?

Booting problems with K8N Neo4 Platinum
hi
sometimes when i turn on my pc it simply cant boot. ive disabled the full screen msi logo during post to actually get an idea whats wrong. so first it says "main processor:" then "memory testing", it basically counts memory. but when this problem occurs my pc is stuck at the "main processor" text and doesnt continue the booting process. any idea?Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 02-August-07, 02:07:43
VGA problem, --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=34535.0
check VGA power cable(if your VGA got it), try with another VGA. could be PSU too.
i already did, but this combination isnt listed in that topic as the rest of the leds here aint red...
so what? vga isnt getting enough power? i connected the two hdd power connector to the vga just like its manual says. "Two hard disk drive power dongles off of seperate power supply cable bundles." what should i check then?
a chieftec 420w should be more than enough for a pc like mine from what ive heard and read. :S -
Endless problems with K8N Neo Platinum
I am really frustrated. My new motherboard just plain isn't doing what it needs to do. The problems can be put into 3 categories, in order of severity:
1. Realtek Ac'97 Audio Card DOESN'T EXIST - It isn't even an unknown device in the Device Manager. It doesn't help to install the drivers because as far as the system is concerned there is no internal audio card on the Motherboard. Needless to say, I have absolutely no audio on my system.
2. USB Ports malfunctioning - All of the USB ports will realize when devices are plugged in, but the drivers for those devices will not load. A little bubble will pop up down in the system tray with the USB symbol that says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows doesn't recognize it." Below it shows the supposed "location of the device" which always shows it as an "Unknown Device" on the "USB Root Hub" which I assume means the 4 USB ports attached to the motherboard. It even says this if the device is plugged into D-Link or to the front panel.
3. Floppy Drive not working - Even though apparently the floppy disk driver is installed and "Drive A" shows up in "My Computer", whenever I try to access the drive with a disk in it a dialogue box shows up saying the disk isn't formatted. When I try to format, it is unable to do so with the message "Windows was unable to complete the format."
I received the motherboard on Thursday, and I've already submitted an RMA with the distributor (Zipzoomfly.com). If you have any suggestions please let me know.Well...I don't know about the expert stuff, but we've seen some real "dingers" here at the forum...most of the problems are easily fixed - once the correct information is given in the signatures. Most problems have been caused by incompatible memory, and/or lack of a quality power supply.
It sounds as though you had already made up your mind to RMA the board...and with those glitches right off the bat..I would do the same thing. But...I know nothing about your computer, whether it is all new - or you've just added old components to a new motherboard. So you see how important it is to create a signature describing your total system specifications....even amperage ratings on the +12v rails.
Your board could be salvageable...I don't know your set-up though!

How do you Norton Ghost 9.0 with K8N Neo Platinum?
Hi,
I have K8N Neo Platinum and I can't ghost! I use the Norton's Ghost 9.0 boot CD and push f6 to add Nvidia Raid Driver. I used 2 Nvidia Raid drivers. One was on MSI webpage date 6-23-2004 and the other was 5.10 driver .Both of them say nvidia.sys error and the computer reboots. Has anyone image or clone hard drive in RAID 0 ? What software do you guys to use to clone or image with RAID 0 with this mobo?
Please Help,

Problem with K8N Neo 4 Platinum
Hi I am new on this forum.
I have problem with proper configuration of the BIOS in K8N Neo 4 Platinum. My processor is Athlon 64 3000. It has 1800 clock. My BIOS makes default 200MHz x 5. It makes 1000 MHz clock. Will it be good if I change at 200 x 9?
Other thing: I tried to change at 200 x 9 but in Windows (2000) is still 200 x 5 (acc. to Core Cell). When I chanded on 200 x 7,5 all in Windows was ok. Core Cell showed 200 x 7,5. How I may resolve this problem?Quote
I have my memory in green slots. Does dual channel works in this case?
- No Green = Channel A, Purple =Chanel B use Green nearest cpu & adjacent purple slot.

HT freq. 5x
That's your HT multiplier as mentioned by Some1ne not the Adjust CPU Ratio which is the CPU multiplier.
Your CPU is running at the correct speed.
DDR Clock: 167 MHz s/be 200 - this should chnge when memory is in right slots.
Change memory over & let's have a look @ those settings then.

I've just upgraded my computer with a K8N Neo motherboard, AMD 64 3000+ processor and a nice new Antec case.
I have a few problems so far.
1. 95% of the time, when POST gets to "Verifying DMI Pool Data"...the NVIDIA Boot Agent will kick in, i assume because it can't boot from my hdd. But i can't for the life of me figure out why, the hdd is from my old computer but it's a clean copy of Windows XP on there. I have disabled SATA in bios. The other 5% of the time my computer boots up fine.
2. POST is very slow, it can take up to 5 minutes just to detect the IDE drives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm not sure if ive included enough information, so please ask if you need more.
Thanks!hi dave,
can you give us more details about your spec please,
Memory, Hard drives (Manf Model Capacity & Pata(ide) or Sata), optical drives, power supply model & max amps on 3.3,5 & 12v rails please.
this will help us to help you & save unesecary questions.

youve just created this on the new mobo?
enter bios -
Cmos setup check that your drives appear as you expect them.

Download Problems with K8N Neo4 Platinum Nvidia Ethernet Controller
Just to ask if there is some basic setup for Nvidia network drivers in Windows or in BIOS since I'm having download errors with a DSL connection when i use the Nvidia networking controller, not depending from the OS I'm booting (WinXP Pro SP2 or WinXP pro 64). When I download using the Marvell Yukon controller everything works fine in both operating systems. Additional specs:

Open up the nvidia firewall.
Click on 'Active Armour'
Click on 'Application'
change the setting from 'offloadable' to 'notoffloadable'
This solves the download problem.
Indigian, you are The Man!!!!!
That solved it !!! Thank you very much!
