Boot problems with MSI 945GT Speedster

Hi
I am experiencing start-up problems with my newly mounted HTPC (Mcubed HFX mini). After pressing the power button the keyboard lights flashes, then the hard drive starts spinning. Then nothing actually is happening. The start-up screen never appears on the monitor (black). In fact I have noticed the opposite, the monitor (using the VGA) seems to receive a signal down instead and shuts off when the power button is pressed (the same phenomenon when starting and shutting off the PC). There are no light's or alarms on this mainboard (that I know). For switching the monitor signal between VGA/DVI/TV out I have tested the keyboards commands, but as I only have the VGA connected I think this also are auto sensing.
I never get to the BIOS start-up. And no, I have not tried to flash or something. Everything is newly mounted.
More information on the same question I posted at this special mcubed forum.
But as this is problem with mainboard I think this is the better forum for this... let's see..
Regards
Mathias

good to hear that. Be happy with the board.

  • Display and Boot Problem with MSI K9NGM2

    I recently purchased a system:
    - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Core Duo
    - MSI K9NGM2
    - 1 GB Kingston RAM
    - 320 GB Sata seagate
    - Sony DVD RW
    - 450 Watts Power Supply
The very first day I started having problems with my system. Sometimes it never showed a display and if it does it was not able to recognise my hard disk. I have to reboot it several times before it does. I think its the computer who decides when to boot and when not to. I got it checked and the vendor says that everything is fine , although he is also not able to respond to my problem. The Sata cabling and the Ram has also been replaced twice but still the problem persists.
Does anyone have any answer to this problem.

  • In search of msi 945gt speedster-a4r (MS-9632) or low power consumption

When and where can I find the msi 945gt speedster-a4r or MS-9632?
Although this board has been announced, appears on the website with specifications, and has been exhibited at tech shows, I can not find it in the USA.     Update:  MSI, itself, did not return any of my calls or email but one of their distributors, ASI, was very nice and said this board would appear in the USA at end of May 2006.      New update:  ASI now says end of April.
I want a system that consumes low power yet will run a controller board in a pci-e slot at x4, 8, or 16,
this MSI board looks like the thing: it runs a core duo yonah type processor and has a pci-e x4 slot.
So far, the 975x boards like Aopen have dual pci-e x16 slots but they appear only to work only with graphics boards.
I want to put a raid controller areca arc-1230 into the slot.  Areca was very responsible and actually tested the 975 boards to find out that they did not work at this time.

I'm afriad that nobody can gives you a definate answer on your question as this concern many factors to say as in production lines, marketing and distribution.

Make sure that the memory timings are not set to 4-4-4-x but that they are set to the defaults values (5-5-5-x).  Also ensure, that the memory clock speed is not set to anything higher than 400 MHz (=DDR2-800).  The voltage at these settings should not need to exceed 1.95V.  So please lower it accordingly.  In case the freezes still occure, please run memtest86+ to check your memory for errors.

  • Poll: Do you have cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatal1t

    Hi guys:
I have post a thread regarding the cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream 600W SLI power supply combination. Apparently, no one has answer to that . In addition, I have recently RMA'd my psu and received a brand-new unit. The same problem still exists. If the problem is really with the power supply, doesn't matter what kind of the setup I have, I should still have the cold-boot problem. However, it doesn't seem like that. Doesn't matter what kind of cards I put on the motherboard, as long as the SB X-FI Fatalty card is there, there is cold boot problem (even with the setup of cpu, mother, ram, and the sound card only, WITHOUT video card and harddri've). And for other different setup without the SB X-FI Fatalty card, there is no cold boot. The cpu and memory are running at stock speed.
My post regarding the cold boot issue:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=79753
There is one user on the forum saying he has the same problem. Therefore, I think it might be the imcompatibility between the X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream PSU.
I would like to know how many people that has the same problem that I am having. So I can possibly narrow down the problem and contact OCZ tech support or creative tech support with more information. It would also be benefitical to those who have the same problem as I do.
Please post your system setup as well in the thread.
Greatly appreciate your opinions. Message Edited by White_Hair on 2-02-200604:58 AM

I would venture to say that it isn't your powersupply, but more likely the X-Fi. I had troubles with my system, until I pulled out my X-Fi and replaced it with a non Creative Labs sound card. One of my troubles, which I incorrectly blamed on my powersupply was the ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard I had and the X-Fi XtremeMusic card, was after gaming for 4 hours, was the?sudden reboot of my system. Powersupply before, was an Antec TrueControl 2 550watt PSU. As it stands right now, I no longer have the parts mentioned and have a decent 700watt powersupply in my system, along with an ABIT AT8 32X motherboard. As you have probably seen there are a lot of problems with the X-Fi soundcards, and I in my right mind can't blame the motherboard, powersupply, motherboard chipset, ram, or any other component in ones system, if one is having trouble other than the X-Fi itself. I'll be honest, there is something quite frankly wrong with the X-Fi, and exactly what that is, I'll probably never know like most people.

  • K8N NEO4 Platinum cold boot problem with 165 opteron?

I have this board and have a cold boot problem with my opteron. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Its starting to get very anooying.
    K8N NEO4 Platinum
    165 opty dual core
    2X1GB Ballistix PC4000
    160GB sata2
    7800GTX
    X-Fi platinum
    600 watt seasonic PSU

Well I am running them at the rated speed of 250 and the rated timings of 3-4-4-10 on the rated 2.8 volts. Ballistix have been known to die quickly when you throw to many volts at them for some reason. I dont get the cold boot problem with the OCZ. Once I finally get it to boot with the Ballistix it works just fine but the next morning I play hell to get it to boot again. I dont even get the main screen to let me get into bios. It just stays black. I have done all kinds of stress testing and ran memtest with no problems. I am really at a loss here.

You can shorten the composition by changing the duration in the composition settings.

  • [Athlon64] Problem with MSI RS480M2-IL

    Hi all,
I have problem with MSI RS480M2-IL. My problem is My temperature is very high... around 55-60c ... i am using AMD 3000+ Venice and no OC... and SpeedFan unable to detect my Voltage usage... Aida32 also same... 1 more thing is when i tried to run SiSoft Sandra 2005... it will take alot of time to load, sometime will just hang. i Test PCMark04 and found only got 3k for average mark... my friend getting 4k+ and we are using same spec... Below is my Spec:-
    MSI RS480M2-IL
    AMD 64 3000+ Venice E3
    Bios Version 3.8
    Geil PC3200 DDR400 2.5-3-3-6
    Maxtor 60GB HDD 7200RPM 2mb
    Verudium Power Vortex 420W
Hope some one can advised me what to do... my score too low and my board detect temperature and voltage is not accurate... Hope MSI Engineer will look thought and help me... Thank for Viewing !

the underlying "Who's fault is it?" question: AMD64 VENICE CORE (E3) PROCESSORS? or MSI RS480M2-IL MOBOS?
so far, ALL users with this proc/mobo combination HAVE the high (or incorrect) temperature issue. replacing the mobo obviously will not resolve the issue but replacing the proc with one that is NOT a Venice E3 core, does the trick. but of course, not everyone will have the privilege of exchanging their damned proce via the retailer specially if it's beyond the first 21 days of purchase.
in my case, my retailer refused to have the E3 proc replaced with the 'corrected' E6 version no matter how hard you explained the known issues with the E3. no chance of AMD recalling the E3 cores since problems with are only isolated to the particular MSI RS480M2 boards.
so for users that are and will be stuck with this combination, what is the solution then to the temperature issue? in my opinion, it's up to MSI to perhaps release a bios update that will correct this. another important thing to consider is the question: IS MY VENICE CORE INDEED OVERHEATING OR IS IT JUST THE MSI MOBO SHOWING INCORRECT READINGS? the proc overheating in actuality is obviously a lot different thatn just having an incorrect bios temp readings.
based on what i have observed, my Venice core displays the correct cpu temps (33-35*C) when being used on a MSI K8 Diamond mobo. placing the proc back to the R2480M2 board shows a very unusual 61-63*C bios cpu temp. furthermore, if i touch the stock heatsink/fan cooler that i have (for both motherboards), it really does NOT seem to be extremely  hot to think that the cpu is actually overheating. in addition, my system using the RS480M2 performs well and has no spontaneous shutting down problems whatsoever. of course, my sense of touch is not as accurate as a thermometer but more or less, if you consider all the points i mentioned, most of us can say that the whole issue is just a matter of incorrect cpu reading.
perhaps the ATI chipset is the one to blame since i have notices as well that the Venice core processors do not seem  to have this high temp problems with MSI's K8 mobos with the NVIDIA chipsets.
one last question: so do you guys think that this problem can be resolved by a simple bios revision? (as a dell tech guy, i do know for a fact that bios updates resolves overheating error messages in Inspiron/Latitude laptops)

Once everything is all connected up, installed in the case, etc etc, upon power up, the fans all spin up, HDDs initialize etc. Then after 10 seconds or so the system powers down again, with the screen (whether on the external or internal graphics) never having been active. There are no beeps from the PC speaker whatsoever, nor do there seem to be any indicator lights as I've had on previous MSI motherboards. The manual is completely absent of any troubleshooting section. So my main question is, is there any way to tell what stage the startup is failing on? Other threads on this forum (here and here) suggest that the problem is due to lack of processor support. As the motherboard was sold as Ivy Bridge ready, I'd like soe way of confirming this as most likely cause before paying for some fix.
Hey I am actaully sharing the similar problem of yours....
    I am using MSI H77MA-G43 (BIOS v1.5), and a set of DDR3-1600 4GB RAM x 2.
When i am using both 2 pcs of RAM, i am facing the same problem:
"after 10 seconds or so the system powers down again, with the screen (whether on the external or internal graphics) never having been active. There are no beeps from the PC speaker whatsoever, nor do there seem to be any indicator lights as I've had on previous MSI motherboards. "
When I use 1 pc of DDR3-1600 4GB RAM, it works again.
I just wonder if there is some RAM compatibility problem with MSI motherboard...I have tried below 2 sets of RAM:
    AMD DDR3-1600 4GB x 2 (1.5V) (AE38G1609U2K-U)
    Kingston HYPER-X DDR3-1600 4GB x 2 (1.65V) (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX)

  • MSI 945GT Speedster will not boot with Authentec Biometric/Fingerprint Reader

Has anybody else seen POST problems with USB devices attached?  My 945GT Speedster-A4R systems will not POST when Authentec AES2501A Fingerprint readers are attached.  I unplug the devices and the systems work fine.  If I plug the devices in while the system is on, they work fine too and the drivers load.
For these sensors to be used properly, as user login devices, they really need to be present during startup.  Plugging them in after startup is not really an option.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    James

First off, I appreciate the responses.  I have some updates, but I still have the problem too...
MSI Tech Support gave me a beta BIOS to try, and it did not fix the problem (v1.2b5).
I have not completely pinned out the USB connectors, but I am only using the USB adapter that came with the motherboard.  I am not using any "front panel" USB ports on the chassis.  This motherboard ships with a 4 port USB adapter that takes up a PCI slot in the chassis.  This adapter cables back to the two yellow USB headers on the motherboard.  I would sincerely hope that MSI correctly matched the pinouts of the USB ports to the pinouts on the motherboard - the connectors are keyed and only go on one way.
I disabled "Boot to Other Devices."  No help.
I also found another USB device that causes the same hang.  I gave my kids Sandisk Sansa c250 MP3 players for Christmas.  When these devices are plugged in hot, they work fine.  If they are plugged in, and we boot or reboot the system, the machines lock up during POST, just like when the Biometric readers are attached.  It is beggining to look like there is some serious USB compatibility issue with this motherboard.  It is also not just one bad board - I have two systems that behave the same way right now.
    Thanks,
    James

  • MSI 945GT Speedster A4R Audio Output Jack Detection Problem

    Motherboard: 945GT Speedster A4R (609-9632-01S)
    CPU: T2400 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo
    RAM: 2x 1GB Nanya PC5300 DDR2 667MHz
    Hello,
I've been trying to get two new computers running using these Mobile Core 2 Duo motherboards.  I have had 2 of 3 motherboards exhibit the same problem with detecting audio jack activity - when no activity is actually happening.
In the first failure, the board never worked at all.  It never detected that a jack was plugged in.  In this second one, it worked right for about 2 hours, then flashed some messages saying "Audio Jack has been unplugged", and then it has never worked since.
The Realtek Audio configuration tool now indicates no jack is plugged in when I insert a speaker plug into the light green colored jack.  Conversely, the one board of the three that is working correctly highlights this jack in the software app when it detects the plug.
I hate to keep sending these boards back to the seller, but it looks like I have to send another one back.  Are these boards prone to having audio jack problems?  Is there an easy fix for this?  Is it just a connector problem?
    Thanks,
    James

To reproduce the problem, I just have to leave the machine on for an hour or so.  After the driver is installed, a Realtek Audio applet is constantly running, shown in the bottom right corner of the task bar.  This applet automatically pops up a windows when it detects any jack activity.
Unfortunately, it just pops up (rapidly, about five times in a row) detecting random jack unplugging and plugging in, when I'm not even touching the machine and not running anything (Windows idle).  As soon as I acknowledge the event by clicking 'OK', it pops up another window, and another, until it has finally decided that a jack is not present.  Then the sound no longer functions because it thinks no plug is inserted into the analog output jack.
    Thanks,
    James

  • MSI K8N Diamond - Boot problems with USB devices attached.

    Hi There.
I have been seeking the forums, but havent found the answer to my problem yet.
This is how it goes with ANY USB devices attached to either of the four USB ports on the Motherboard.
When i turn on my system, it hangs in the POST right after displaying the BIOS version (Which I have updated to 1.6) - I cant use my Keyboard to get to the BIOS setup.
    Without USB devices attached...
The system boots without problems. And in Windows XP SP2 i can insert my keyboard, mouse etc. and everything works great - both USB 1.1 & 2.0 devices.
I have disabled the KB/USB.. in BIOS and I have disabled the "Boot on other device" option as well.
As I have found on this forum, a lot of people have problems with USB Front panel and D-Bracket (USB ports) connectors causing the system to hang - But my D-Bracket (USB connectors) and my front USB port is at this time DISCONNECTED - so this cannot be the problem.
The D-Bracket shows the "Bios Sign On" information - and stops at that point
Am I having a malfunctioning Motherboard here, or are there any solutions to this problem?
Please help me as I am desperate to have my system work properly.
    Regards
    Stieper

Well I have read about that somewhere in here, but my problem is NOT with an USB hub, but with any USB device attached to the motherboard's USB slots. It is driving me nuts to be honest!! I think it might be time for RMA
What do you say guys - is my Motherboard ready for RMA, or do I have to try something specific berfore sending it to the retailer??

    Dear Flobelix,
Thank you very much for your help.
This board is new. I bought it the last week (Amazon in France)
But my knowledge for ''old cpu name'' is poor. Can i use Sempron 145 ?
    Thanks
Yes, it will work with the Sempron x145.  So it won't even POST, you get no display at all, any beeps, have you tried resetting the CMOS, or just using one stick of RAM?

I have loaded Windows 98 on my system and it works fine. But then I load Windows XP on and the system starts rebooting. After it reboots my video resets itself and I have to load it back in. I will then reboot and sometimes it will work, sometimes it will not. I try playing a game or even searching the net for awhile, but out of the blue the system will give a very quick blue screen and reboot. And of course when it boots up the video is reset. I loaded all the drivers I could find on MSI's website and used every video driver made by Nvidia and MSI. If I do a Windows XP update to my system the computer will not even boot up. it will just keep rebooting when it is trying to bring up the login screen.  Anyone else run into this with Windows XP?
