Boot straight into KDEmod desktop

How do I boot straight into the KDEmod desktop, not the login window but the desktop itself (if using kdemod is relevant)?
I switched to windows from linux and now after 6 months going back to linux so I've kind of forgotten some things.

I assume you mean bypassing KDM's login screen and going directly into KDE desktop.
You can use the..
x:5:once:/bin/su PREFERED_USER -l -c "/bin/bash --login -c startx >/dev/null 2>&1"
method mentioned in the "Start X at Boot" wiki like you've done but I just thought I  would let you know that
KDE lets you change this inside control center.

  • IMac boots straight into Windows 7

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 using Bootcamp on an iMac 9,1. Now when I turn my computer on, it boots straight into Windows 7 by default. If I hold down Option while booting and select Mac then it does boot correctly into OS X 10.6.1. Is there a way for me to configure the iMac to boot into Snow Leopard by default?

Use the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences in Mac OS X or the Startup Disk control panel in Windows.

  • When I boot up my iMac and hold down ALT it boots straight into windows 7 without giving me the option to boot OSX back up. Have I lost OSX and all my files completely? Please help

I set up boot camp for my iMac with windows 7. All was fine and it gave me the option to boot into windows.. I then used windows for a few hours and shut down the mac to boot back onto OSX when I was done.. This time my mac booted straight to windows 7 even with me holding down the ALT key it gave me no choice.
I'm assuming the boot camp set up was wrong somewhere but is there a way to get back on to OSX now?? Please help

    1. Have you tried both Alt keys - maybe your Alt key is dead.
    2. Do you have wireless keyboard? Have you tried to change batteries? USB Keyboard?
    3. If your Win is installed correctly then you have also installed all windows support software.
There should be Startup manager like on the Mac (next to the clock little bootcamp app or in control pannel) to restart your Mac into the Mac partition.

  • IPhone 4, Home button not working, stuck in recovery mode and boots straight into voice control.

After trying everything and failing I still cant work out why this is happening.
I cant restore my phone in itunes, just get an error. My phone boots into voice control for no reason and to top it off the home button stopped working along with all these errors. It cant be a hardware issue. I sent it in and got told I had water damage which is impossible as I treated the phone like gold.
Does anyone have a reasonable explaination as why this is happening and maybe even a solution?
    Thanks!

try to put your phone in recovery mode. plug into itunes and hold down the home button and top button until apple logo appears and then let go of the top button only. the phone should display plug into itunes.let go of the home button when this happens. disconnect iphone and plug it back in itunes should recognize it is in recovery mode. hit the restore button on summary page.

  • MDT 2013 Boot straight to CMD after upgrade?

    Hi,
I've recently upgraded MDT 2012 to MDT 2013. My images are working if no changes are touched. However, right after I add NIC and other drivers for a new dell model ( e5550) and regenerate the image, all my models boot straight into CMD after the image gets
picked up via WDS. Very weird.
I have a snapshot of my deployment server just after the mdt migration so i can always fall back to the original state for my current models, but I need to resolve this to able to add new drivers and new models going forward.
I'm thinking it had something to do with installing windows 8.1 ADK and perhaps it changed the win PE version? I am new to MDT so there must be something obvious I am overlooking. Has anybody seen this before?
also, when would I be extracting the Dell WinPE cab to the boot image? And how I know which version to use?

This is the set-up for my MDT. I dont have a seperate WinPE folder. is this best pratice or now required?

  • Finder boots into previous desktop

I have had this happen 2x in the past week. After restarting my computer my desktop shows old files from a day or 2 before. Anything I was working on for the current day has disappeared and files and folders from a previous day are showing up. When I go into mail, all messages appear like they did from a previous day, and any messages that I received today are not there. When I look at the clock in the upper right, the day and time are correct but my Mac has otherwise booted into a previous day!
The first time I panicked and needed my files right away. I used time machine to recover my files. All was good after the restore with the exception of my mail messages
Ok so it happens again today, my computer restarted and it shows the desktop as it appeared from a day or 2 ago. I did not want to do a restore so I forced it to restart again. Well now it is back showing the correct desktop and today's emails, as if nothing happened
I did verify the disk using Apple's Disk Utility but I am concerned. What if I cannot get it to restart and display the correct desktop?
Very weird, almost like my machine has temporary amnesia. How can it boot up into a previous days' desktop status?!?

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
    Click _*Repair Disk.*_
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • Can I Use DTA to Transfer Straight From Palm Desktop to Google Calendar

I have a Palm Tungsten E2, and a Palm Desktop account for it, but I also have another Desktop account, which I want to keep separate and copy into Google Calendar.
I got the Data Transfer Assistant (DTA), and went through the first few steps towards transferring the data - even selecting the right account - but now it's saying that I need to connect my handheld, and sinse I  don't have a handheld for that account, it looks like I'm stuck.
I tried connecting my Tungsten E2, but it did not recognize that and left the "Next" button pale.
I imagine I might be able to get this done if I erase everything from my Palm, HotSync the other account into it, and then do the DTA, but I'm not quite sure how to do that nor am I sure that when I erase the secondary account and sync the primary one back in I will have everything that I currently have - all the data, all the applications.
Is that the best way to go, and if so, what safety measures should I take?
If not, what is the best way to transfer data straight from Palm Desktop (version 6.2.2) to another calendar - preferably Google, but Outlook would be okay.
One thing that I know would work would be to convert the DBA file into a CSV file, but I don't know how to do that.
Any answers to any of the subquestions?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

What king of files? If they are iWork files then sure. However if they are third party files such as Excel spreadsheets or MS Word documents etc.. then I'd recommend using Dropbox.

  • Take multiple screenshots and paste straight into paintbrush/word for editing?

    Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie to mac. Barely got it for several weeks.
I have a task to do which requires me to take screenshots for a multiple times and paste them straight into a same file in paintbrush for editing.
Basically what I do is I am to screen capture a small portion of the screen, paste it into paintbrush, and keep taking screenshots and paste them into the same clipboard in paintbrush. So the desired outcome is I will have like a collections of screenshots combined into just 1 image file.
Or also I'm thinking of another way to do it is to paste them into a Word file and edit them directly in Word by using drawing tools in word.
Because if I Command+Shift+V4 it will come up a file on desktop. First, I have to go to desktop open up the file. Second, select the part i want. Third, copy it and paste into word/paint brush. If i need to take about 40 screenshots imagine i have to do about 120 steps in total :O ?!?!?
I know that I used to do this in window. Just printscreen and Cltr+V (paste) straight into Paint and I can do this multiple times and the clipboard in paint will automatically be expanded as I paste a new screenshot onto it. I find its so much easier and quicker. Or I can do the same thing in Word as well.
Could anyone help me with one quick and easy way to do this with MAC?
I am sooo looking forward for your help!
Thank you guys. hope i can get a solution soon.
PS: I'm using Word 2011, Paintbrush & Seashore apps

Control+Shift+Command+4 -- capture a screen shot and toss it in the clipboard.
Also, look at keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences, and /Applications/Utilities/Grab.
Here are some other OS X keyboard shortcuts.

  • [SOLVED] Arch does not start into gnome desktop

I installed arch from the scratch into a new hard drive due to a disk failure in the old one. After installing it, I booted into gnome3 desktop without problems.
Today I have upgraded it by performing:
    #pacman -Syu
and also I have installed some other no important packages mplayer, banshee, etc... also I have seen that my kernel has been upgraded into 3.11.4-1-ARCH fro 3.10.10-1-ARCH.
After rebooting, my arch does not boot, even in fallback mode. It starts cleaning blocks from the partitions, and then after it is done, cursor is blinking and no other messages are printed out. It stays with cursor blinking forever. I have a GUID Partition table and a LVM2 where all paritions are made.
I can log in into console by pressing CTRL+ALT+F2. Once I have prompted I have no network interfaces, only lo (loopback). If I do:
    #ip link show
    #ip addr list
I only get lo (loopback) interface listed, others like wifi and ethernet cable does not appear.
    If I perform below:
    #journalctl -xn
I do not see any problematic message, only this one:
Failed to open private bus connection
Any ideas why arch is not booting and get into gnome session (login window)?
    UPDATED:
The problem is that once I have performed the full system update with:
    #pacman -Syu
My kernel images has been upgraded and successfully generated into 3.11.4-1-ARCH but I have seen that my kernel, after log in to console and performing:
    $uname -r
it says kernel version continues being 3.10.10-1-ARCH so at startup images genereated into 3.11.4-1-ARCH do not match so cursor remains blinking forever....
I am trying to update the kernel but now I have no internet connection, no network interfaces are shown.... so how to do this now? chrooting?

ewaller wrote:Check the output of uname -a and of pacman -Qi linux and ensure that the versions match.  If they don't, you are somehow starting using the wrong kernel and it cannot find its modules.
You are right, see my updated post, for some reason image were successfully generated into 3.11.4-1-ARCH but kernel has not been updated and it remains in 3.10.10-1-ARCH.... so they do not match and arch does not boot.... so cursor remains blinking forever....

  • Macbook boots automatically into OS X Utilities

Recently my computer died like normal. I charged it, booted it and noticed it was stuck at the Apple logo screen frozen. So I tried putting it into safe mode, and now everytime I boot or restart my computer it goes straight into OS X Utilities. I tried partioning it and did disk maintence and both said everything was fine. How do I get to my login screen and no I do not have my information back up anywhere.

I don't know exactly, it boots up. The computer loads froma  grey screen, flashes to a golden screen then goes to the OS X Utlities page. But I just went to startup disk and there's nothing there it's either taking forever to load or..

  • Can't even log into the desktop

I got a crash or something last night when I opened 2 webpage loading with flash applications, and the system slowed down and then later on can't even get any response.(Still my mouse can move and the screen show the 2 pages without response) I couldn't click the force quit or restart it so I pressed the back button to force switched it off.
After that in this morning when I turn it on again, It stopped at the loading page and couldn't get into the desktop.
I tried several times reboot, and now when I turn it on, a floder button flash on the middle of the screen and I don't know what to do.
Please help thank you so much.
PS: I am not sure what my OS is, it's likely 10.4.(something)

Hi konrinn, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this since it is Disk Problems likely...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all?

  • Shooting tethered straight into Lr...

    Hi,
I'm trying to shoot tethered straight into Lightroom. Here's what I did:
    - installed EOS software for my EOS 30D,
    - set in EOS Utility to open Lr when shooting images
    - Lr launches
Now, here's an issue: when I shoot Import dialog box opens inside Lr with one image. How can I get images straight into Lr without opening Import dialog box so I can get them all in Lr straight away?

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for your replies.
    Here are my settings:
    EOS Utility :
    - Destination Folder set to: Watched Folder on my Desktop
    - Linked Software set to : Lightroom
    Lightroom:
    - Auto Import enabled
    - Auto Import settings:
              - Watched Folder - Watched Folder on Desktop (the same as in EOS Utility)
              - Destination - the same as above (Watched Folder)
So how do I get rid of the Import dialog box while shooting?

  • Mac Pro boots automatically into windows anyone else?

Installed bootcamp and now if I hit restart it boots into windows automatically
Called apple and the tech just said he had no idea. and thats weird
I have selected the mac Hd as the boot up, but if I don't hit the option key it will go straight into windows.
Anyone else have this and can solve it for me?

You must be careful about what USB devices you plug into the keyboard. A mouse would be okay but you have to realise that the keyboard is an unpowered USB device and cannot power other devices, well anything needing more than a few milliamps anyway. So running sound sticks from the keyboard is not a good idea and the Mac should have thrown up a warning that it could not provide sufficient power to those speakers. Generally the USB ports on a keyboard are not much use for anything except a mouse or a dongle that some software suppliers demand be used to authenticate their software's legitimate use.
