Bootcamp 5.1.1 on Mac Pro Cylinder can't install Windows 8

Hi,
I've gone through almost every discussion regarding the common issue "Windows coud not update the computer's boot configuration" but none is related to Bootcamp version 5.1.1 and latest Mac Pro cylinder.
I already tried the solution presented by Jarvil at this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23545780#23545780
Based on Jarvil's solution there is a very important thing that is not happening in my case, that is that I never get the option to boot from the "Windows" partition. I only have 3 options, 1) Macintosh HD 2) Recovery 3) EFI Boot.
By not having the option to boot from Windows partition I automatically deviate from Jarvil's solution.
So, I proceed with EFI boot, I reach the step where I have to select the partition and I pick the 4th partition and it says that Windows can't be installed in this partition so I delete/format it and proceed with installation and it goes all well until the very end where it's finishing the install that I get the message:
"Windows coud not update the computer's boot configuration".
I also tried skipping the install --> login into Mac OS X --> Disk Utility --> Delete partition --> Create ExFAT partition (tried FAT also) --> Reboot --> EFI Boot (Windows partition still not available) --> Format partition --> Proceed with install --> Same error again.
After the error, it reboots and then I get a blue screen (**** Windows blue screens) with a message:
Recovery
Your PC Needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.
File: \BCD
Error code: 0x0000034
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.
So I reboot holding Option key and now the partition Windows appears and if I boot from it I get the same blue screen with the recovery error. So I reboot again and login into OSX, go to Disk Utility and delete the "Untitled" partition and I recreate it using ExFAT but then it gets stuck "Preparing to partition disk".
I'm attaching snapshots.
I really hope that someone from Apple support can provide a solution. Thank you very much in advance.
Alejandro

It's not an Apple response but it is something which worked for me. This is an exerpt from a post I made on another site. It's a bit involved and you may think this should not be necessary (and you'd be right) but if you want to try it you're welcome. No guarantess.
Install Windows again just like you did before with Bootcamp (but you may have to remove any traces of it first).
So starting again with Bootcamp Assistant and with Macintosh using the whole disc again begin the process.
Allow Windows to be installed as normal.
When the BCD error box opens up DO NOT click on OK - immediately do a hard shutdown of the Mac by holding the power button. This is so the changes are not rolled back.
Start up the Mac again holding the Alt key and choose the USB EFI Boot option in the boot menu (it will be orange). At this point if you get a Windows blue screen error shutdown and take out the USB then restart the machine holding Alt and at the boot menu plug in the USB again and do the above.
At the installer's start screen press shift + F10 to get a command prompt.
In the command prompt type
diskpart and hit enter
type
list volume  and hit enter
Note the volume letters and numbers of all the volumes .  One should be an EFI partition of type FAT32 and it will have no drive letter.
Now type
list volume and hit enter (note the letters and numbers of the displayed volumes) One will be your EFI partition of FAT32 type and it will have no letter, just a number.
type
select volume X (where X is the number of your EFI partition) and hit enter
type
assign letter=B and enter
type
exit and enter
type
bcdboot C:\Windows /l en-GB /s B: /f ALL   *** note the /l en-GB is for locality and language and will default to English US if not changed. Obviously you need to change to your own locale and language code***
press enter (after checking all spaces etc). You may also struggle to find the \ key on your keyboard, it may change position once in command prompt!.
After a few seconds it should report that the boot files were written. If it does that you can type in
wpeutil reboot and press enter at which point your Mac will reboot. Hold the Alt key and choose your new EFI Boot option and hopefully Windows will boot.
Obviously all of this can be a little daunting and should not be taken on lightly. Having said that Windows is not currently installing and you've got nothing to lose. You can always go back to what you have now (with TM backups of course, and maybe even without).
Good luck

Your issue is completely different. You are running Snow Leopard. There is no download for Windows Support software for Snow Leopard, hence the error you see. Snow Leopard Windows Support software is on the Snow Leopard installation disk.
You need the Snow Leopard installation disk or a replacement for it.

  • Satellite Pro S300L - Can I install Windows 7?

Can I install windows 7 on my Satalite pro s300L if so which version 32 or 64 Bit?

    Hello
First of all you can install what you want.
    Why?
Its your notebook and you can do what you want with it! ;)
In my opinion its depending on the RAM which version you should install If you use 4GB or more RAM, choose the 64bit version. Otherwise 32bit is enough and therefore you can get all drivers here:

  • Mac Pro 2008 Can't start Windows 7 / 8 Installer

I'm trying to load Windows 8 (And have previously tried everything with Windows 7) on my Mac Pro early 2008 with Mountain Lion, and cannot get the installers to initiate.
When I start the bootcamp assistant and reboot, my mac freezes before ever getting to the installer. When I reboot and hold option to manually select the installer, it freezes as soon as I select it. I've tried this from a DVD, USB, and even an install partition i setup on my HD, all with the same freezing results. This is a legitimate copy of Windows 8 system builder I'm working with and have installed it perfectly in Parallels.
I should note I upgraded my video card a long time ago to a gt 120, so I'm wondering if the video card might be the problem. I've installed Windows 7 with this video card in the past so I'm guessing this is a Mountain Lion/Bootcamp 5 issue.
Has anyone else with a Mac Pro 2008 succesfully installed Windows 7/8 from Mountain Lion/Bootcamp 5?
Any input would be immensely appreciated!

There are no Windows 8 Bootcamp drivers. Windows 8 is not supported.
Use Parallels or Fusion to install Windows 8. By doing so you eliminate the need for drivers since the virtual machine creates virtual hardware and drivers.
Once the Windows 8 Bootcamp drivers are developed and released you can then install using Bootcamp Assistant.
Read this forum. Some people are posting that they had some success with the Bootcamp install. but if you have to rely on your computer then don't take the chance.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro A1226 - can i install Windows 7 on this via boot camp

I have a Mac Book Pro (A1226 -late 2007) and I want to run Windows 7 Ultimate on it via Boot camp.   I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.8  with Boot camp 3.0.    For some reason I can't seem to install Windows 7 through Boot camp.  Can I even install it on this computer?  Would I be able to run Windows 7 on this computer if I purchased Parallels instead.
    Thanks

You should try asking in the Boot Camp forum where the Boot Camp gurus hang out. Your issue has been discussed there many times.

  • I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro, How can I install Windows 7 without an Optical Drive?

For clarity:  I have a mid 2010, Macbook Pro.  I recently decided to upgrade to a Crucial SSD drive, double the ram (8 gigs), and remove the optical drive in favor of using my old drive as a back up.  I am also currently running Yosemite.
I want to install Windows 7 onto my SSD, using bootcamp.  Unfortunately I no longer have an optical drive installed, which makes things difficult as Bootcamp does not even give me the option to create a bootable USB.
Now, this is where things get kinda fuzzy:
MId 2010 macbooks use EFI, and are quite capable of booting from USB.  How do I know?  Because I booted from a USB drive in order to do a fresh install of Yosemite on my SSD.
I have read mutliple forums and threads with claims that folks have had no problems doing this on 2008 Macbook Pros running Snow Leopard.  However, what seemed to be required was some clever .plist modding.  I have used both text wrangler, and x-code to do this, unfortunately upon booting of bootcamp, bootcamp instantly crashes.  Naturally, I can restore bootcamp because I made backups of the .plist file.
It would seem that modffying the .plist file assumes that the option to create a bootable USB device is grayed out.  In my case, it is non existent.
I have also read that folks have had success using rEFIt, however rEFIt has been forked to rEFIned, and the developer of rEFIned made mention on his site that Yosemite handles booting differently than previous versions of OSX.
WIth that, I was hoping that some kind person could explain to me whats going on, what I am missing, and what I can do to make this happen just shy of tearing down my MBP and reisntalling the Optical Drive and dusting off my Win 7 disc.
Also, my Model Number/Bootrom is MBP 6,2.
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your reply, and the information.  This is what I came up with:
I added the strings as instructed, however when I went to sign the script in terminal, I was told:
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: replacing existing signature
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: code object is not signed at all
    In subcomponent: /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents/info.plist
Also, here are screen captures of the lines that I added.  Mine are the top string entries:
Thank you for your help, thus far!

    Hi Peter,
Do you try an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 at the moment? If yes please try a new and clean installation of Windows 7. Does this work?
Another question: Is your CD/DVD drive working properly or is it listed with yellow exclamation mark in device manager?
In your case I would try to remove the drive from device manager and restart the notebook. After this the drive will be recognized automatically.

    Hi.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro c50 with Windows 7 preinstalled.
It comes with 2 DVD's containing Windows 8.
I have tried to upgrade to Windows 8 (following the instructions included in the manual: BIOS changes, etc) but I cant install it.
After booting from the DVD, it doesnt appear the Windows 8 install utility, but the Windows 7 recovery options .
    Could you please help me?
    Thanks in advance,

    Exactly the same problem.
    Toshiba Portege R-930.
Comes with Win 7 preinstalled and 2 CDs with image of Win 8 (Win 8 sticker on bottom of the laptop).
Followed the directions in the leaflet to upgrade to Win 8 (change in BIOS, etc.) like the user above.
It gets only to a blue screen with two options:
    1) Toshiba recovery - a frightening black screen with warning that every data will be lost) and
    2) System recovery, getting nowhere but to "switch off computer".
At one point got the message that the disc is locked.
Gave up, returned safely to Win 7.
If someone could explain how to do this properly,

  • Can't install Bootcamp on a 4,1 Mac pro

    Greetings !
I'm trying to install bootcamp on my 4,1 Mac pro but i'm experiencing a weird issue....
First of all, here's the summary of the machine :
Macpro 4,1 2x2,26ghz quad core xeon, 6gb ram, intel 335 ssd plugged in the optical drive bay, and a bluray burner...Mountain Lion is 10.8.5...I removed my 2 additional cards (a decklink HD extreme and a sonnet e-sata "tempo" controller)....I added a second drive in the bay #1 (an apple seagate 250gb which was originally in the mac pro)...
1st weird thing : my smc version is 1.39F5....I downloaded the 1.4 (which is the latest for 4,1 MP) on Apple website but it won't install, displaying "your computer doesn't need that update"...
2nd weird thing : I succed in launching windows ( win 7 professional 64 bits edition) installation, i can then format the volume in ntfs within the installation program....BUT...After a while it copies and expands installation files, and really starts the installation (devices detection, etc)...And that's when it hurts...I can have either a BSOD with "bugcode_driver_error" , either the computer restarts and says the installation can no longer continue and I need to start all over...I have an iMac and could install windows on it without a glitch....I tried 2 differents dvd : the windows official, and an optimized (with windows updates slipstreamed inside) a friend made...No go.....I'm gonna need a bunch of softwares on windows pretty quickly for my job....
Do you guys have any idea ? I'm starting to run off of any fresh of 'em
Thank you a lot in advance for your help, and happy season from Paris
    Dirk

If you bought a retail copy of Tiger & are not using it for another Mac, you do hold a Tiger OS license you could transfer to your brother legally. However, your brother still will need disks that install the PPC version of the OS for it to be installed on the G4, & for troubleshooting or some maintenance tasks. Intel-specific installer disks do not meet this requirement.
If you can document your purchase (like if you have a receipt for it from an authorized Apple dealer or the proof-of-purchase certificates) you may be able to purchase a replacement disk through Applecare.

  • Two hdmi displays to the Mac Pro  cylinder

How do i hook up two hdmi displays to the Mac Pro  cylinder?

There are cheaper adapters and cables
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA824ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adap ter>
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA825ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-cabl e-2-m65-ft>
but they are passive not active.
The new Mac Pro can use a maximum of two passive adapters (the built-in HDMI port counts as one), so you could use one passive adapter, but any more would have to be active.
Some useers have reported problems with cheap Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables.
