Bootcamp and OS X Lion

Would bootcamp be affected after installing OS X Lion?

I had a number of problems with bootcamp and Lion.
After finally getting Lion on my system I had problems accessing Windows.
I could hold 'Alt' button and see the Windows Drive. When I selected it, the start up began then the system went to re-boot. 'Round and 'round I went. Not even Safe-Mode would get me all the way in.
Now it is fixed.
I had to take my Windoze XP disk and do a repair. (please back up)
**There is a particular way I had to do this, so I didn't lose my data and settings inside Windows.
1. Turned off computer
2. Turned on and got to the Boot Camp screen where I could select which drive I wanted
3. Inserted my XP disk
4. The XP disk becomes a 'selectable' start-up drive
5. Selected the XP disk to start
6. When prompted to 'Repair' or 'Install' - Selected 'INSTALL' - NOT 'Repair'.
7. At the install screen, a search was done to see if Windows XP was already installed
8. When it found that XP was installed, I was given the option to 'install' or 'repair' the one already there - *Now* I selected 'R' to Repair.
I noticed that right away many files began to be deleted. I was very worried. Then, it took about 45 mins - to one hour - to re-install the files.
After a re-start you must enter in your Windows Authenticity Code so be sure you have it! After a another re-boot or two, I was able to open in Windows normally. All of my personal files, documents, programs, and settings were intact and fine.
I had to re-download IE8, Service Pack 3, and another hours worth of updates, since my XP disk only had Service Pack 2 on it.
Overall, I'd say this was the most miserable experience I've had with any sort of Apple update. There were no warnings or instructions or help for the potential problems encountered with Lion. They just 'threw us the lions' and said fend for yourselves!
Of the many, many posts I've read (trying to fix all my *update* issues), it seem that most people with problems, who called support, have reported that support instructed them to wipe the HD and start over! Really?? Thats a solution? You sound like Windows.
I am not an expert so any advice above may destroy your computer.

It is a Total Misconception that the Support files are installed when you are installing Windows, even if the USB drive that holds them is inserted in the system when doing the Windows install.
You must always Run the Setup.exe files from the support files or run the drivers individually once Windows has finished installing and booted to the desktop.
Also you really need to run the Boot Camp Control Panel Applet and check for updates as not all the newest drivers for full function of all the hardware is included with the original support download. That download is basically a generic version to get the system working and without doing the updates not everything will work properly.

I am going to buy a mac mini i7 with 3 thunderbolt displays for forex trading. the question is if i use bootcamp and run windows on the mac mini will the displays still run the same way as if i was running it on Lion?

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

Bootcamp and Lion

If Bootcamp was previously installed prior to upgrading to Lion which does not support this Bootcamp version, am I able to delete/uninstall that version of Bootcamp and reinstall a newer version with new partitions? What is the best method to do this? Thanks!

You are not technically uninstalling Boot Camp, you are or would be doing a clean install or upgrade to 7, and then install/add BC 4.01 drivers.
There is a BC control panel and Apple calls it a Program. A catch all and misused term.
Windows-on-Mac would be better.
Leave as is. Even XP can be left as is usually as well.
You should think about leaving as is, or how to do an upgrade or clean install.

I'm confused. Are you saying that your mac came with an older version of OS X, but you want to be able to use OS X Lion, which you downloaded from the App store? If this is not the case, what do you mean by "I downloaded os x but my laptop started off with os x lion and i want os x lion back"? Specifically, what do you mean by "I downloaded OS X" if your mac came with Lion?

Thanks for your suggestion. Actually that was not the problem, because I had the Mcintosh drive set as my boot drive. The answer was that my Lion Os got somehow corrupted and I had to reinstalll Lion. This was all after I discussed the situation with the Apple Support people.

Installing Windows 7 in Bootcamp after Installing Mountain Lion

Before installing Mountain Lion I erased Windows XP and all contents from Bootcamp. Now I am running Mountain Lion and attempting to put windows 7 on Bootcamp 5.0.0. I ran the disk utility on Bootcamp and it shows (formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with 35 G available and nothing on it.
When I begin the Bootcamp assistant gives me a message "The Startup Disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Exteded (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing witndow." I clicked OK and was able to download the support software. Once I did that I inserted the Windows 7 CD but the Bootcamp assistant doesn't let me check the install box.
How do I install Win 7 in bootcamp. Thanks for your help.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use BootCamp. There's a BootCamp Support Community where everybody uses BootCamp. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

Hello All;
I'm new to Mac, Just purchased the MBP Mid 2012 non retina 2 months ago.. and upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2
I'd like to Install Winows 7 via BOOTCAMP and have extra 1 or 2 partitions (ExFAT) on the same drive for my personal data, any advise on how to do this properly... I tried in many different ways but always ended up hitting the wal..

Bootcamp and Win7 lagging?

I'm the lucky owner of a 2012 MacBook Pro 15 2,4GHz Intel CPU, 16Gb 1333MHz RAM and the 1Gb ATI HD6770M graphics card.
Originally it had the Toshiba 128Gb SSD disk where I was running bootcamp with OS X Lion 10.7 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit no problems at all...
Now I have installed a Corsair Neutron GTX 480Gb SSD and OS X is running perfect, however, I can't get Windows 7 to work anymore
Installation is fine and it actually runs very quickly, except when I e.g. click the start menu, it then freeze for 4-5 sec before anything happens...
What can be wrong? (And yes, I actually need Win7 for my engineering classes )

First read the appropriate instructions and print a copy for reference when installing Windows.

I have installed Windows XP, Vista, and 7 on a MacBook and two separate MacBook Pros. I had no problems with installation. Please do yourself a favor after you have installed BootCamp/Windows and make a backup with Winclone or Paragon HDM 12. Search for these programs on this community for more discussion.

Installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp with OS X Lion

I have just bought a new 21.5 inch iMac preinstalled with SL and have the Install DVD for 10.6.7.
I have recently upgraded to Lion OS X (eligible for free download due to recent purchase of the iMac), but now want to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp. As I understand it, I have to reinstall the drivers for Windows 7 to work, but I only have the DVD for SL, not Lion.
Can you advise on how to get around this? Can I save the drivers for Lion on a blank DVD - if so where do I find the files? If I'm right, I think I select 'Download the windows support software for this mac' option when I first go in to Bootcamp and have a blank DVD in the drive. Then I can use the DVD as if it were a Lion Install DVD - is this correct?
Think I also need a USB wired mouse as wireless is disabled when installing windows.

The initial install (at least for most of the reboots) does correctly reboot to Windows. However, towards the end of the Windows setup, where Windows is fully functional but is configuring itself, you may accidentally boot into OS X. Once you get Apple's Boot Camp drivers installed, you can set the target disk for a reboot, so that you don't need to hold down alt/option. In addition, you can also set the target disk in Lion via System_Preferences>System>Startup_Disk.
Unfortunately, the excellent boot manager rEFIt doesn't work with Lion (because of the hidden partition that Lion adds). Maybe they'll get it working soon, then you can use it and not worry about holding down alt all the time.

So what I want to do to this one is delete everything (ofcourse I will back up what I need)
and then reinstall Lion, so first it can be faster. and second ima run bootcamp on it so i can
play some PC Games.

Restart from Lion's recovery partition by holding down the Option key at startup and tabbing to it, use it to erase the internal drive, and install a new OS.

Bootcamp and OSX showing different Partitions

I had just restored from a backed up system image of Bootcamp. Previously, my bootcamp partition size was about 120+gig and my osx had everything else of 750g. Before I did a system restore, I removed Windows 7 using bootcamp assistant and then created a new one with 450g for bootcamp and 250+g for osx. I installed windows 7 like how I did before and did a system image restore when it was done. Now on the system recovery screen it asked to exclude disk for partition and I tried to exclude my single drive but I got an error saying I can't exclude the disk that backup was going to use so I just continued without excluding it.
I got to restore without any problems but when I opened "My Computer" I saw that the disk size was from my old bootcamp. When I checked OSX it was showing that the partition of 450g and 250g were intact except that the bootcamp drive is now "Untitled" rather than it saying Bootcamp.

IMPORTANT:
When I was browsing from OSX to my bootcamp drive, I found out that the files on the drive were from the fresh install. There was no hint that I had restored my old system.

It more like I don't know the process to resolve it. I have a back up of osx and windows image, Winclone only allows its own backup unless theres a way to include my winows image on their options. Once that's resolve I can probably buy camptune or just use Winclones method.
I had already bought winclone and I have already sent them an email regarding the issue of my windows image.
The different partitions on both OS is really boggling me though, and what makes it even more complicated is that the "Untitled" partition in Mountain Lion shows the contents of a fresh install not currently bootable and working windows.

Removed bootcamp and partitioned, but stil detected as windows drive??

Hi, installed boocamp a few weeks ago on my external harddrive/macbook. I named the bootcamp partitioned drive Windows.
Today, i decided to reformat my computer. So, first i removed bootcamp using boocamp utility. Then I partitioned the drive to mac journaled extended and named it HD2. After that i did a factory reset of my mac and reinstalled mountain lion.
Upon logging in, everything seemed fine. The drive was partitioned correctly for storage on macosx, and still named HD2.
However, when i loaded the drive menu by restarting my computer and holding option. it still showed the drive as Windows!! when i clicked the drive, it even attempted to load windows, but of course never even got started and went straight to a blank screen because windows is not on there.
WHAT is going on. the drive isnt even named windows anymore. I removed bootcamp entirely and reformatted the drive. How can it be that the boot menu still lists it as Windows but when logging in, its listed as HD2?
I hoenstly think its a glitch with bootcamp. it doesnt exactly afftect anything really, because i can still use it for storage. But im OCD and it bothers me that its incorrectly listed in the bootmenu.
Can someone explain to me whats wrong and how i can fix this?

Under Macintosh HD info I have 240.3GB available, but under bootcamp and disk utility I only have 70gb available?

I went to make a bootcamp partition under the impression i had 240.3gb of available hard drive space when infact I only have 70gb available according to bootcamp and disk utility. What's causing this? Which is right?

I have fixed this issue. Time Machine mobile backups, backups stores locally when the backup drive ins't available, was causing the conflicting readings. I have disables mobiles backups with a sudo command and the .mobilebackups folder has deletes (the folder was 146gb!!).
This is perhaps a mountain lion bug because my backups are all up to date but the local backup didn't delete itself?

Bootcamp and windows 8(partition problem)

I am trying to install windows 8 and until now with no sucess. The instalation by the bootcamp runs smoothly, but when I boot from the USB, start the instalation process on windows and it asks me what partition I want to install the windows, I try to choose the Partition 4: BOOTCAMP and it doesn't work. It says it's a problem because the partition is EFI and for installing windows it can't be or something like that
And if I don't press the Alt button, when the bootcamp finishes the instalation and reboot the mac, it goes to a black screen where said that I don't have any boot devices connected and to connect one and press a key.

I believe you are supposed to format the partition labeled BOOTCAMP to NTFS from the installer. It is stated in the BootCamp suport guide.
