BootCamp and Simply Accounting

My brother in law is looking for a new laptop and I want him to buy a Macbook. However, he has to use Simply Accounting.
Does anyone have any experience using this? Would it work OK in Parallels?
Thanks in advance.
Erik

I found out that it runs great under VirtualBox from Sun (now Oracle).

  • Having trouble updating simply accounting on my MacBook.  I have upgraded to Parallels 7 and upgraded to simply accounting 2012.  Simply is now shutting down on setup saying it has encountered and error and must close.

Any suggestions on how to get Simply accounting 2012 to run in Paralles 7.  On setup simply is encounters and error and shuts down.

AngSteve... Unfortunately, you're not likely to get a solution here.  You're basically having trouble installing a Windows application in Windows.  It's not likely a Parallels issue, but there's no way to say for sure.  I would suggest you try getting support from Sage:

You should continue to use your Apple ID for your iTunes account whatever you do in terms of iCloud syncing and mobile me.
If you would like to use the Apple ID you use for iTunes for iCloud syncing. just create an iCloud account using that Apple ID. If you do this you will need to add an iCloud mail address which can't be your mobile me address as that is already taken.
If you want to create another Apple ID for use with iCloud so that you keep your @me address from your mobile me account you can do that by migrating from mobile me to iCloud, you can do that too, your Apple ID for iCloud will then be your @me address.
If you migrate your calendars and contacts will also be migrated and continue to work in iCloud. If you create an iCloud account using the Apple ID you use for iTunes you will be given the oportunity to merge your calendars and contacts.
Whichever you choose, it would be agood idea to export your calendars and contacts for back up purposes before doing anything.

  • Simply accounting  want to get new macbook pro and run this software anyone use it with success?, simply accounting  want to get new macbook pro and run this software anyone use it with success?

If anyone is useing this product I would love to hear from you. I want to change over to macbook pro for our small company but we are useing simply accounting on our current windows based pc

I don't believe this program runs on a Mac. if it does it would be running using a Windows emulation program like Parallels or VMWare or running in Windows directly through a Boot camp partition. In any case it's running in Windows so you have all the experience you need.

  • Replaced hard drive, bootcamp and missing memory.

    hello,
a little while ago, my hard drive gave up the ghost and so i had a replacement fitted under warrantee. previously i had partitioned my disk so that i could use bootcamp and windows when needed. after restoring my system on the new drive, i thought id lose the partition and windows and apps, i thought that time machine only backed up the osx part of my hard drive.
recently my new disk has filled up, its a 160g hard drive, and yet looking through all the files, i see that i only have about 148g used up. is it likely that the new disk was partitioned on restoring from time machine (id reserved about 10g for windows), that my 160g drive only really has a useable capacity of 148g, or that theres hidden files that are eating up storage space???
any help and remedies would be most useful!
    thank you in advance.

TM does not backup a Windows partition nor does it partition a backup drive. You would need to do that separately using Disk Utility and Boot Camp Assistant.
There are thousands of hidden files installed with OS X. It's quite likely you simply can't count the space they consume by adding up the space used by what's visible.
Depending on how you are determining space on the drive you may be getting mixed calculations. Although the drive has 160 GB capacity using Base 10 arithmetic, it has a 148 GB capacity using Base 2 arithmetic. Snow Leopard is supposed to display disk space using Base 10, but I believe Boot Camp Assistant is reporting the space using Base 2. This would account for the two different numbers.

  • I have Exchange and Yahoo accounts on my iPhone 4. At least 1 email a day I send as a reply fails to leave my outbox of my Exchange account.

I have Exchange and Yahoo accounts on my iPhone 4. At least 1 email I send from out thru my Exchange account fails to send and it simply refuses to leave the outbox. The only guaranteed way of sending it is to change the sender to my yahoo account. Note that is ONLY occurs on replies to existing emails, never new emails.
It is only certain mails that fail. Even if I delete the mail and write another reply it will still fail.
Could it be content related? It happened on IOS4 & 5.
I've asked one of the staff in the Apple shop and he said he's seen this before but doesnt know the answer - not really helpful if you're trying to work off your iPhone :-(

    Thanks razmee209.
I would agree with you if I still couldnt send the reply by changing the sender to my yahoo account; but as I mentioned before - whenever the mail fails to send, I can ALWAYS send it by changing the sender to my yahoo account.
I agree that it must be something within the original mail, but why does it trigger a failure if I reply from my exchange account and not my yahoo yahoo account.
I can delete the Exchange account and re-add it, but it makes no difference. I've also rebooted the phone but again, no difference.

  • Family Sharing - iCloud and iTunes Accounts

So I have have had an apple ID (just a user name) for an eternity.  That has been the main purchasing vehicle over the years, both in iTunes and more recently, the Mac App store.  But I also have an iCloud account (email address) that primarily has served as my iCloud login but a few times have made purchases.
With Family sharing, I want to be able for everoyne to have access to both accounts, but it doesn't seem possible.  My iCloud account drives the setup of family share, and the account is my legacy user name that has been used for 98% of my purchases.  I have not found a way under family sharing to get both added as Apple sees them as being the same regardless of email I use to add, etc.
    Any thoughts?

Under "Setting up Family Sharing" here: https://developer.apple.com/icloud/documentation/family-sharing/ it says:
"You can accept a Family Sharing invitation from any compatible iOS device or Mac where you are signed into iCloud. Or, if the organizer is nearby, they can simply ask you to enter your iCloud Apple ID and password during the setup process. To complete setup, you will also confirm the Apple ID you use for the iTunes, iBooks, and App Stores so you can share your purchases with family members."
This suggests that you can specify a different ID for the iTunes store if you aren't using your iCloud ID for purchasing.

  • Is it still impossible to do bootcamp and VMWare or Parallels?

I use bootcamp extensively to run several windows programs, mostly MS Office 2010. I also need to use Office 2011 so being able to switch back and forth between OS X and Win 7 is essential (I do this because I'm a consultant and curriculum developer--not because I'm a masochist). I've used bootcamp for years and it does a pretty good job once you get all the drivers issues sorted out.
I've also used VM ware, but had a couple of bad experiences where I lost my virtual machine and all the data on it.  I do backups of course, but it was still really inconvient.  Plus the driver situation when doing the virtual thing rather than bootcamp just wasn't quite there yet--another reason to use bootcamp. So for the past 2 - 3 years I've just been resigned to using bootcamp.
But occassionally it's just not convenient to reboot my system to switch from OS X to Windows, especially when all I want to do is check out some quick thing under windows but then quickly get back to Mac--two reboots!  On the other hand, when I'm doing a windows client demo or such where failure's not an option, I'd want to be in bootcamp because it feels so much more solid.
I'm wondering if Apple or the virtual OS companies have made any changes that would allow me to have both bootcamp, which I'd use for windows in most situations, AND a virtual machine in OS X that I could use for quick trips to Windows but keep working in OS X without having to reboot.  Most of my data files are on dropbox, so even if the bootcamp partition and the virutal machine disk were inaccessible to each other I'd be able to access the files I need.
If the answer is simply NO, you can have bootcamp or virtural machines but not both, then my next question is this:  Is either VMware or parallels getting close to being as robust as bootcamp for running windows, or should I just plan to keep on bootin' for another few years?

    Hey Bob,
Thanks for the information. My last experience was with VMWare 1 and I don't think this functionality was available then. I downloaded today version 4 and at this point I am running Win 7 within MacOS.  Haven't tried rebooting to my bootcamp partition yet or printing or sharing, etc. If it works as advertised though I should be a happy camper.
The import option doesn't strike me as a good one for my situation.  I have 500GB on my MBP and 120 GB allocated to my windows bootcamp partition. If I do the import option with VMWare I'd basically need another 120 GB of the total space and then I'd have two unsynchronized windows disks, one under bootcamp and the other under VMWare.
Running VMWare as a Mac application I can see it's a bit slower than running in bootcamp, but I expected that.
This is exciting stuff and I appreciate you taking the time to enlighten me.
    Thanks

  • Find Free Number Ranges of Customer and Vendor Accounts

    Hi,
We have a requirement where we want to report to customer the free numbers present in customer and Vendor Accounts Groups.
To solve this, I went through XKN1 and XDN1, where I go the current number for each Vendor and Customer Account Group.
But the customer is having a strange requirement. They want to know, the free numbers available in these customer range.
Please see the attached doc for the requirement and the solution which has been given.
Please let me know, how to find the free numbers available in SAP system.
    Regards,
    Devdatth

    Hello Devdath,
You can go to table KNA1. In the selection criteria, give the number range for each Account group and click on Number of entries.
This will give you the number of customers created for that account group. SUbtract this number from the total number to get the Balance.
Note: This is for the number ranges which are externally defined.
For internally defined number ranges, you can simply go to XDN1 and get the balance.
Similarly for Vendors, use table LFA1
I hope this is what you needed.

  • Bootcamp and Parallels

Can I run bootcamp and Parallels on the same Mac? How do I run Bootcamp if I've already installed Parallels? Do I have to re-format my drive and start over?

Here's why you want to install both: Parallels accesses your existing Windows installation you did with Boot Camp. You don't have to boot into Windows if you install Parallels after you've installed Windows in its own Boot Camp partition and you don't have to install Windows again. It's much safer because the work you do is saved on the windows partition, not on a virtual drive. Of course, you can still boot to Windows if you need to.
You can open Windows programs right with your Mac apps and switch among them as if they were native by using Parallels. You will have to activate Windows again for some reason, but it's painless unless you've installed it more than twice in which case you have to call Microsoft.
Boot Camp is free of course and simply partitions the hard drive, you don't "run" boot camp as ZooCrew already pointed out, you actually boot to windows on startup. You do "run" Parallels which accesses your windows partition. Quite slick. I use it for Quicken because the Mac version blows hard, and another program I have to use for work that is Windows only for now.

I am a novice. I have a few thousand iPhotos stored on Dropbox. But now I have a Canon T5i camera and want to get more involved in photography. I want to open a Lightroom and Photoshop account. I have a Windows desktop and an iPad. Will I have any compatibility issues with PC and Mac? Can I store my photos in Lightroom and eliminate my Dropbox account? Thanks.

You shouldn't have any compatibility issues. But you don't store images "in" Lightroom. Lightroom simply points to wherever the images are on your system. You might like to watch a few videos that can help you understand how Lightroom works.

  • Running simply accounting on mac

I am opening my own bookkeeping Business and need to run Simply Accounting.
I am super hesitant about buying a PC and would love to stay with my Mac Desktop.
    What are my options??
I know running a Parallels desktop works, but is it glitchy??
    Help...?

Parallels has never been "glitchy" for me. Fusion and VirtualBox also work well, as does Boot Camp.

  • Accidentally scanned OSX from Bootcamp and OSX reset

Oh god, I've screwed up my mac beyond repair and I failed to utilize time machine based on the price of the time capsule. I'm a college student and simply cannot afford a $250 piece of hardware that I may never use. But now I'm paying for my arrogance in assuming I'd never need it. Sometimes I really hate myself.
I have, somehow, reset my entire OSX. The Dock is now huge, all of my icons are now reset to the default ones when I originally bought the Macbook Pro. The software is still there but the icons have been reset. The icon no longer bounces when I open it.
And I know exactly why. I was in Windows through bootcamp doing routine maintenance and decided to do a full scan using Microsoft Security Essentials. I forgot to have it ignore the E:/ drive which is where MacOSX installed. It must have got 25% through scanning it before I realized it. I don't even know if that can cause a problem but it obviously did. I booted into OSX just to double check everything was ok. It loaded fine, all icons where there and seemed like everything was ok. Except the icons weren't bouncing when I opened up an application even though it was checked in the preferences. This frustrated me so I rebooted again to see if that would fix the issue and now here I am. Completely back to factory defaults. My software is still there but the Dock reset itself and it seems as if other things reset. I'm doomed. So how do I start a reinstall process? Insert the Snow Leapord disk?
I'm worried because I have Parrallels 6 and if I have to reinitiate a bootcamp then I'm going to have to go buy another full non-upgrade version of Windows 7. Christ, my life really is terrible at the moment. Somebody please tell me I'm overreacting and focusing on the worst possible scenario.

Ok I think I lucked out. I trashed the dock.plist file and then ran Onyx and had it do EVERYTHING. I think it worked. The dock reset so I'll have to rebuild it but other than that I think it's fine. Is there any way I can double check everything? I'm really paranoid about my MacBook. It's my baby and I want to make sure there isn't something out of order that could be gimping the system.
Also, unrelated issue: Parallels had originally placed a "Windows Applications" folder in the dock. It was nice because I could see everything I had and when I clicked on one it would launch parallels automatically and launch that program. That folder is gone. Anyway I can get it back?

  • Is iMac, Bootcamp and Windows XP 100% a PC

My friend and his wife own an accounting practice with 4 staff.
They use IRIS Accountancy Practice Software, which itself uses the latest SQL Server technology and Microsoft Windows XP.
He has a PC at home, which his wife uses to work on the office system.
He needs to replace a PC and is attracted to the iMac for home – attractive, space saving, etc.
He is not technical and relies 100% on third party support who also supply his PC’s.
IRIS and the support company say the IRIS software will not run on Apple.
I have tried to persuade them that with an iMac, Bootcamp and Microsoft Windows XP he will be running IRIS on a PC not on an Apple. Am I correct?
Does anybody have experience (good or bad) of such a set up?
Is the iMac with Bootcamp and XP, 100% a PC? This is a business decision and he will not buy the iMac without 100% confidence.

MacBook Pro was rated as one of the top three Vista laptops and supports 64-bit versions.
I think running on Apple meant "doesn't run on PowerPC" actually, and there are programs of course that aren't ported to OS X.
A lot of IT organizations run servers as virtual environment to better use idle resources and lower costs. Apple's Xserve is often used for running Windows 2008 or any other flavor.
You might even want to look at VMware products and run XP inside OS X.
You can't run OS X as a VM except in OS X server, which is a shame, great for testing.
    Your iMac is Intel Mac.
Compaq was one of the first, along with a German company, to provide "100% IBM Compatible" ISA hardware. Eventually, it became "PC" rather than the longer name, microprocessor (with mini and mainframe being the other two main architectures).
