Bootcamp and Vista 64 on Macbook?

Can I install Vista 64 with Bootcamp on my Aluminum Macbook?
I upgraded the memory to 4 GB. If I use Vista 32 instead of Vista 64, now much free RAM do I have?

So, after doing some research online, I was able to find a solution and get Apple's 64-bit Vista drivers installed on my new MacBook. However, in order to get it to work, you need to have an external 2-button mouse.
In Vista, insert the OS X Install DVD that came with your MacBook. When the Auto-Play window pops up, close the window, and do not run "setup.exe". Instead, click on the Start menu (or press the Command key), and type "cmd" in the search box. When the Start menu reduces to show the Command Prompt, right-click on it. In the resulting menu, choose "Run as Administrator".
Then, in the Command Prompt window, type these commands (pressing Return after each line):
D:
cd "Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple"
msiexec /i BootCamp64.msi
This will run the installer for the 64-bit drivers. After it installs, you'll have to restart your machine. Once it restarts, right-click on the Desktop, and select Personalize. Change your display settings to 1280x800 at 32-bit color depth. Then click on the Start menu. On the right side of the start menu is an entry for "Computer". Again, with the external mouse, right-click on this entry, and click on Properties from the menu. Click on the "Refresh" button for the "Experience Index", so Vista will know it can now use better graphics.
There is one caveat that I have noticed, though. Even though the Boot Camp control panel has a two-finger click on the touchpad set for right-click, it won't respond for me. In order to get a right-click, I need to use an external mouse. (If you have better luck, I'd like to know, though.)
I hope this is helpful to you.

  • Will bootcamp and vista work with Mountain lion 10.8.2

PC died so got an iMac and setting it up with small "PC" on it for two programs I need that will only run on PC. I am wondering if Bootcamp works with 10.8.2 and Vista will work with both...or are there known issues.
    Thanks,

Vista will not work you will need Windows 7.

    zwalk,
Welcome to Apple Discussions. I know you are new here so let me help steer you to a forum where you might get the answers you are looking for. This is a generalized MBP forum, I think you will get more answers by re-posting on a Bootcamp forum which you can locate:

Look over the various forums then choose one that comes closest to your needs which to me sounds like an installation issue.

  • Bootcamp and Vista ultimate 32 bit blue screen

Hello all. I just purchased my Macbook Pro (late 2008) model last night and I also did a memory upgrade from 2Gb of DDR3 to 4Gb of DDR3. And its was working great..
So i've had a macbook before but never a macbook pro. So i ran the BOOTCAMP Assistant and went through the stages of partitioning and inserting my Windows Vista Ultimate Disc. It goes through the install process and once its finished installing, it restarts and I get to where Vista says "Now configuring your system, please wait....." or something of the sort.. Anyway then it flashes a blue screen (blue screen of death) and then it reboots my Macbook.
I'm lost. I removed the partition and tried again with different versions of Vista: HomePremium, Business, and Basic, still nothing. I also tried different size partitions, still nothing. Any help will sure be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I am sure that it could be done. However, the chances of problems are very high. Microsoft recommends at least 40 GB.

  • Lion, Bootcamp and Vista

Hi, just installed Lion and then Bootcamp failed - couldn't boot into Vista. So tried reinstalling but now can't find the drivers for Vista - Lion downloaded only those for Windows 7. Do Vista versions exist?

  • Bootcamp and vista

I am getting ready to install vista ultimate and i would like to know if there are any known bugs or issues. also, is there any support for the trackpad recognizing taps?

I have run Vista for about a month now and things seem great. I've even compared my macbook pro to others running vista and mine seems to run faster, just like the commercials say.
I have not found a tap driver for the pad, which is a bummer. But there doesn't seem to be many other hardware items that aren't supported. I've heard the firewire 800 isn't available in Vista - but I haven't tried it yet.
It is a little hard going back and forth using shortcut keys that are different for the 2 different computers (ctrl-c vs. applekey-c), etc.
Good luck! I think you'll like it.

  • Re-formating HD after Bootcamp and Vista Install

Boot off your install disk 1
On the top menu bar select "Tools" then "Disk Utility"
In Disk Utility select your internal drive (not the partition) in the left pane
In the right pane select "Partition"
In the drop down selector select "1 Partition"
Towards the bottom select "Options" be certain that "GUID" is selected
Now to the right of the "Options" button select "Partition"
Now boot off your external & clone back.
    Good luck!
    Steve
These were the instructions I was given. Everything worked but I could not find the options button to select "GUID" at that particular part??? I don't know what that does or how to get to it and select it???

    Whose instructions are those?

  • Anyone  using bootcamp and Vista on there new Imac

Just curious how it runs. Nice to have both worlds.
    TOm

You can't install an OS version that is earlier than the OS that comes pre-installed on the Mac. However, you should be able to run your old PPC apps by installing Rosetta (part of the OS X install, if you want it). I happily ran all my PPC AdobeCS apps this way, although the Mac came with OS X Snow Leopard installed.

  • Bootcamp and Vista32 Crashing...

    Hello,
I've installed bootcamp and vista 32 but it's very unstable. It can crash on login (the welcome screen on vista where the little circle spins seems to freeze and i have to hard reboot). Sometimes when I'm finally in windows i will get a blue screen with the video driver error for no reason. However, I've run COD4 with no crashes! I don't get it. It can crash for no reason but not crash when you think it would. I'm using the bootcamp drivers from the cd that came with my new mbp. Any tips? thanks.

Did you install the Windows drivers from your Leopard DVD? It sounds as though you may have a defective Windows installation or have not installed the Windows drivers from your Leopard DVD.
BTW, all that Boot Camp Assistant does is to create the Windows partition and assist in the initial installation of Windows. It's not actually involved in running Windows after installing it. Did you print out the Boot Camp documentation from the Boot Camp Assistant?

  • Bootcamp, A2DP using Vista on Macbook Air ( How To )

    Hi,
Thought I help those out who've recently picked up a Macbook Air and get them running on Bluetooth/Windows. People complain about the 1 USB, but who cares, the only thing I've got in the USB (when needed) is the Superdrive and everything else running off Bluetooth! Yes streaming A2DP on Vista on your Macbook Air !
What is Bluetooth A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). Allows streaming audio to your A2DP compatible headset without the hassle of wires or having to plug in USB or stereo cables. If you've got the AIR this is a must do, it's just plain cool right? LOL.
    Here's some tips:
    Bootcamp
    1. YOU NEED THE SUPERDRIVE. I tried several other brands (i.e. LG) they work as regular drives but NOT for Bootcamp/Windows install.
    2. XP and Vista run great but please note, as this was such a hassle, you must use XP with SP2 (don't try installing with any other version then attempt to update, let's just say "pain in the ***"). If using Vista (and have the 5 cd version), make an .iso of cd1, then import the /source files from the other 4 discs into the /source dir on cd1 iso then burn to DVD.
    3. Don't freak out on first startup, insert the DISC 1 the came with AIR. It'll stick all the proper drivers.
    4. I installed Vista SP1 last night, ran fine except I initially lost my soundcard output (not input, weird), but simply reinstalling the bootcamp drives resolved that issue.
    *Bluetooth on Windows*
    1. Following basic mouse/keyboard instructions worked flawlessly no issues with Wireless Apple Keyboard (from G5 series). I wish Apple would release the new thin model WITH keypad (hint hint). Using Microsoft 5000 bluetooth mouse no problems.
    2. Here's the pain in the ***, A2DP. I'm using a Jabra BT8010. Vista picked up my device and 4 services (Audio Sink, Handsfree Teleophony, Headset, Remote Control) whereas XP didn't have any services. Yes I tried broadcom, bluesoleil on XP, but could not find my bluetooth device, thus I went with Vista. Now for those four services above, Windows kept pointing me to Broadcom site for drivers and I've tried some google hacks without avail.
Then I found success using the following Dell drivers: http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R142181.EXE
Extract the .exe. When windows asks you for drivers for your Headset Services, point them to \BT350A00\32Bit\Drivers\
3 of 4 services installed flawlessly, I had to initiate the Headset Audio driver install a second time to make it work and voila! I have full streaming audio, Skype, MSN, Youtube, Winamp....etc!
    Hope this helps anyone out.
    Cheers,
    Nolan

Wanted to check this out...so played with BT on Leopard via iTunes. I have to say that the 'use as headphones' option plays quite clean (bass/treble presence, almost similar with wired headphones) not like listening to music through a cellphone call as the typical 'use as Headset' bluetooth option sounds like.
It's probably not audiophile clear but sounds pretty **** good.
Update: For kicks fired up Fusion with Bootamp (Vista), fired up Windows Media Player and it was playing through the 'use as headphones' bluetooth off host, pretty wild (both in single window and unity modes).
Curious, has anyone got A2DP on Windows XP bootcamp?

  • Can the Zen 4gb work on Macbook running Bootcamp Windows Vist

With the falling Macbook prices from Apple, I am considering getting one within the next few month. I know that officially the Creative Zen 4gb would not work nati'vely on the Macbook however I am planning to install Windows Vista via Bootcamp and was wondering if I would face any problem syncing the Zen 4gb under Windows Vista on the Macbook hardware ?
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem trying to install Win7 x64 on my 2009 iMac. I finally copied the entire Boot Camp driver folder from the OS X installation DVD to Windows. Then I went to \drivers\bootcamp64.msi, right-clicked on it and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility. Windows chugged a bit and came up with a dialog that said Try Recommended Settings. Click on that, then Start Program. The Boot Camp installer now worked great.
    Give it a shot.

  • How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?

How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?
My optical drive is non-functional and I want to dual boot with win7. The only problem is my macbook does not boot from USB at all, even when I hold th ALT key down when it is starting up.
-I have a flashdrive with win7 on it.
-I mounted the ISO of win7 with toast for bootcamp to do its thing.

    Good luck.
Consider this a bump so that hopefully someone with better news spots your thread.

  • My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using.

My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using. I use a cheap Logitech Stereo Headset H130, but since there is only on audio plugin on the computer, I purchased a 3.5 mm 4-pin smartphone audio adapter thingy. That allowed me to put both my the sound coming to my headset & the microphone on my headset onto one wire. Everything worked wonderfully when running the Mac OS since they probably have support for that kind of stuff. The problem is though that once I try to use the same method in Windows 7, the OS doesn't recognize my headset microphone at all, but, instead when recording my voice decides to use the built-in mac microphone. Using this adapter still allows me to hear from my headset, but not use the microphone and that becomes a problem. It might be so that Windows 7 doesn't have support\drivers for that... How should I continue from here on out? Any advice?

From what I have read from others on here you may be out of luck. You would need the appropriate Windows drivers for the Cirrus chip in the Mac and no one has been able to successfully locate them. Apple wouldn't support this since Windows is an optional install.
Sorry to bring the bad news.

You may have to see about using the Recovery HD partition to attempt to erase and restore useful function of the capacity lost to the former Windows installation.
And you may have to backup your contents outside the computer to do it. Disk Utility on the Mac OS X historically has not been able to touch a BootCamp created partition; so if BootCamp cannot remove it, then you have to see how to do the equivalent of a reformat of the entire drive (less Recovery partition?) then reinstall your OS X. Maybe from internet recovery, then get your applications, etc from the Mac App store, etc.
A complete system clone of your OS X on an external HDD would be another method to restore after reformat, of the portion you want whole again, not necessarily the space where Recovery may live.
    There may be (an)other way(s).
    Perhaps someone with recent experience
in this matter can reply & discuss options.
With my antiques, they almost know what I want before I tell them.
Hopefully yours will after you talk to it awhile.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT4410 I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7

Dear Apple. I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7 bootcamp install download from Apple

It is a Total Misconception that the Support files are installed when you are installing Windows, even if the USB drive that holds them is inserted in the system when doing the Windows install.
You must always Run the Setup.exe files from the support files or run the drivers individually once Windows has finished installing and booted to the desktop.
Also you really need to run the Boot Camp Control Panel Applet and check for updates as not all the newest drivers for full function of all the hardware is included with the original support download. That download is basically a generic version to get the system working and without doing the updates not everything will work properly.
