Bootcamp Brightness Problems...

Hey all,
Before I begin, a small preamble...
Specs: (On a side note, I liked the System Profiler from Snow Leopard more than this user-friendly-graphical bull... You hear me apple?!)
15'' MBP , 2.3ghz i7, 8gb ram, AMD Radeon HD6750 1024Vram
Running:
Windows 7 (Genuine) Ultimate, 64bit
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1
Bootcamp (latest update)
No programs that effect brightness on either partition of my HD
So, the problem:
When I started using Win7 in bootcamp, I noticed that the brightness keys (I have fn+f1/f2/f3 etc option enabled, so I can use f1-f12 as they are ment to be used on a PC, and if I want to use them for their mac-function, such as brightness, I hold down fn and hit the key) sometimes did not work.
I mean... The keys worked, I saw the sun with multiple boxes under it apear on the sreen, and go up and down, but the brightness did not actually change.
My volume and keyboard-backlight ones work properly.
I was wondering if there are certain drivers, etc I need to install in order to get my brightness to work properly.
Also, a few observations: (and past attempts)
-The display IS detected by Windows 7, and I can change the resolution, etc. Brightness control in Win7>Control Panel>Screen/brightness has no effect
-Whenever I boot to windows, the brightness setting is always the same as what it was in Mac OS X before I restarted
Anyway, I am posting now because the brightness control now does not work - ever.
Hopefully one of you can help me fix this.
Thanks,
Aypolo

  • Windows 8 via Bootcamp Brightness Problem, Buttons working.

I've installed windows 8 via bootcamp on my 2011 mbp and installed the drivers from apple. But the brightness(backlight off my screen can't go to full, except the first seconds when booting into windows. When is push the function keys the brightness doesn't go higher. Because the windows brightness menu says that the screen is at full brightness. When I lower the brightness (In the menu or with the buttons) the screen goes completly black when the bar says that the brightness is at a quater. Does anyone have any solutions? If you guys need screenshot I can provide. Thnx in advance!

I have been having the issue of no brighness control when running windows through bootcamp for about 6 months now and have not found any applicable solution online.
While messing around trying to figure it out yet again I noticed that my monitor driver was signed by team viewer...
Sure enough clicking the roll driver back button resolved the issue by rolling the driver back to the Microsoft driver...
    So long story short:
Right click "My Computer" click properties
Click device manager (lop left of window)
    Expand Monitors section
    Double Click monitor
    Click driver tab
If the driver here is not signed by Microsot or Apple click the roll back button. My driver version is 6.1.7600.16385 (Driver date 6/21/2006)
Rolling this back instantly resolved my issue. I will now propagate this post to all the threads I saw regarding this issue.
    I am running windows 7 x64 Ulti on a 15" rMBP.

  • Bootcamp Driver Problems in Windows 8

I use a MBP 13" 2010 model, and I've used it for a long time, but it's never had any problems with Bootcamp until now.
Last month I bought a copy of Windows 8 Pro x64 (disc) and I wanted to install it on my recently clean-installed Mac. I installed it with no problems using Bootcamp. Booting into Windows 8, I found that the Bootcamp Drivers weren't compatible with Windows 8, but I looked up a guide that told me just to install the drivers one by one. I did that and rebooted.
The drivers still didn't work for some reason. The brightness controls weren't adjustable, the keyboard shortcuts didn't work, the trackpad failed as well, and numerous other problems plagued me in Windows mode. I re-installed the drivers and rebooted, but it still didn't work. I even installed the Nvidia display driver seperately, but no go. Is this Bootcamp's problem? Most likely the driver's out of date.
So I'm stuck using my office computer now, until I can find a way to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

    defan752,
I recently put Windows 8 (64bit) on my 15" 2009 MBP. I performed a clean install utilizing Boot Camp. I followed instructions found online. Prior to installing Win8, I had WinXP installed on a partition, which worked perfectly.
For my Win8 installation I upgraded my MBP's OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion comes with a newer version of Boot Camp (version 4.0 - I believe). The newer version has a slightly different process for driver installation. It has you create a driver installation disc within the Boot Camp Asstant software running on my Mac BEFORE creating the partition and installation. First it will connect to the interenet and download the latest support files for the drivers for your machine, then it will ask you to insert a blank disc, upon which it will write Windows friendly installation file (the disc contained an executable file [.exe] which is to be run on the newly installed windows parition). While Boot Camp (4.0 or whatever it is that came with Mountain Lion) doesn't have official support for Windows 8, utilizing the Windows 7 installation method will create a Driver CD that works in Win8. After creation of driver disc, follow the normal installation instructions (create partition, install win8). Once Win8 finishes installing, go to the desk top (Windows Button + D), pop in the driver disc and the Executable file. After the file runs the drivers will be installed but will require a reboot in order to be utilized. Reboot your machine and you should be good to go.
NOTE: hold on to that driver disc, I have already had to use it to repair some of my drivers that got messed (my own fault, not mac's or MS) and reran the executable file which fixed everything again.
NOTE: You will be able to utilize much of the drivers in the Win8 environment, however there are limitations. While the trackpad supports multitouch, it is limited (two finger right click, two finger scrolling). The nifty new multitouch gestures in Win8, are not yet supported. I suspect they will be with future updates to these drivers. But we won't get that until Boot Camp can fully support Win8. Also I noticed that my speakers don't switch to headphones when I plug them in, nor does it recognize the toslink connection. I'm still looking for answers to those problems.
For more details regarding the driver support in Windows 8 running on a Mac i found this website useful:

  • Nokia Lumia 1520 - Screen Brightness Problem

I  have two Nokia Lumia 1520.
Both of them have the same problem. I will explain the problem to you in detail and before that let me assure you I am a Windows Phone long time user , have been part of the development , developed several apps for the platform and I have used Lumia 800 , 720 , 920 , 925 and now 1520. So I am well aware of all the settings , sunlight readability , automatic brightness etc. This problem is not due to any of these , I can assure you
    Now the problem ,
I set the automatic brightness option OFF
I move the brightness to HIGH
    Then I lock the phone
When I unlock the phone , the brightness drops by 10% suddenly without any intervention
This problem happens sometime. Some days I see this problem , some days I don't and there are few days where I see this problem very heavily.
I purchased another 1520 and it has the same problem. I am very sure , from my experience that this is a firm ware issue. This is NOT a hardware problem , but a serious problem from your software end. It is prudent that Nokia recognizes this problem and finds a solution to this. Interestingly , I am not the only one who is facing this problem , the whole globe is facing the same problem and for such a pricey phone , this is a frustrating experience - very frustrating. I am sending some links , which will show the problems users are facing:

The phone is rock solid and amazing except this irritating problem.
I have only few days within which I can request a exchange from the merchant. So if any Nokia official can confirm that a software fix is on the way , it would be super helpful
    Nokia , please help !

I have Nokia Lumia 1520 Black.
I have also been facing the same problem with screen brightness.
The problem occurs only when the Brightness is in Automatic mode.
--> When the Brightness is set to Automatic mode & take out from dark location to bright location the display turns out to weird grey color.
--> And then if the brightness is set to low, medium or high display comes to normal.
Is this issue related to the hardware or software.
If it is related to the Software will you be able to fix it ? or else How about the replacing with the new one ?
    Awaiting for the response.

  • Ideapad Z500 Touch Win 10 Brightness Problem

    Hello,
the Z500 Touch has/had the problem with the regulation of the brightness with Win 8.1, but reinstalling the intel video driver solved this problem.
Now - with Win 10 - I have got the same problem, but reinstalling the (intel) drivers doesn't help. I just can't regulate the brightness: The brightness sticks at the lowest level.
Does anybody know how I can solve this problem?
    Peter

I'll try that. [Edit: Doesn't work for my Z500 touch. I copied those files but it didn't help. In addition, I'm not ableto reinstall the Win 8.1 Intel Video driver, because Windows 10 tells me the Realtek bluetooth or something like that program doesn't run with Win 10 :/] I've got another solution: Just set the driver of the on-board graphics to the previous version and the brightness problem is solved, but because of me having a graphics 4000 the performance with this "trivial" driver is just bad so that it's just a workaround.

  • Brightness problem. Problème de luminosité. NOKIA ...

    Hello,
I've just bought a Nokia, but I can't find how to change the brightness settings, even if the user guide {part power-safe} suggest us to reduce it. The OS seems to be "Symbian", unfortunately it's not a free Operating System such as a Linux kernel(...) Have you got some ideas to solve this brightness problem?
    Thanks,
    Bonjour,
    Merci d'avance.

ah...But could Nokia propose an issue to that problem? Such as for instance: an update or an upgrade? Because I really, can't use the mobile with a brightness like this. Thanks 4 the reply, I'm going to wait for an issue.

  • N8 Backlight (Brightness) Problem

    Hi,
My new N8 (brought last thursday) have backlight (screen brightness) problems, meaning it sometimes automatically gets dimmed just after pressing a key and to resolve this i have to lock/unlock....otherwise it stays dimmed until it gets locked (by locked i mean the screenlock or keypad lock )....is my nokia n8 defective or is there any other solution??..
Also the brightness varies automatically sometimes...idk why this is happening!!!

I know it sounds counter intuitive, but you do need the screen to be brighter when in a bright environment, such as a bright sunny day. Conversely, a bright screen in a dim room would soon start to hurt your eyes and would be unnecessary anyway.
So, the screen dims when in dim light, and brightens when in bright light.
    Cheers.
    Ray
Oh. I see. So I think nothing's wrong with the sensor then.

  • Z500 brightness problems Windows 8.1

Hello,I open this post to report a brightness problem on Lenovo Z500 Ideapad. Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support. It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.I hope this fix can help someone else with same problem. Look for a solution on internet with brightness off kills your eyes.

This solution is everything but sustainable! I've bought the Lenovo z500 precisely to work on the video editor CyberLink PowerDirector 11. But this softwares requires the latest driver update of my video driver... otherwise it will not work properly (see "green screen issue": http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/16190.page). Yesterday, I've upgraded my laptop with the latest video card driver and the PowerDirector finally worked perfectly. But then came the Z500 brighness issue, where I am required to downgrade my video card to fix it!!! Which means I won't be able to use PowerDirector although this is the reason why I purchased it! So what do I do? (((( Isn't there another way to firx the brightness issue? Thanks for any advice Robert

  • Windows 7 RC BootCamp/keyboard problem

    Hey,
I've installed Windows 7 RC on my MacBook. I tried to install BootCamp form Leopard DVD, but the installer says, that it can be run on XP or Vista only (any clues?). I've installed all drivers provided on DVD normally, by running each installer separately, but the problem is that keyboard doesn't work properly - I can't use volume, brightness, keyboard light keys. It seems that Keyboard Manager is needed, but as you know, I can't install BootCamp on Windows..
    HELP.

    carldavies1983,
You might try the following (assuming you have an alternative input device in W7RC):
1 - Load the 'Add a device' dialog for bluetooth
2 - Wait until your device is listed and just select it (highlight only)
3 - Right-click (or press 'Alt+Enter') the highlighted item and select 'Properties'
4 - Go to the 'Services' tab and wait until it lists a 'Drivers' check box
5 - Place a check mark in the box and click 'Apply'
6 - Click on the notification balloon that pops up on the right end of the taskbar to watch the progress of installation (it will probably say something like 'Windows Update..'
7 - When done, your device should disappear from the list and should now have functionality (although from my experience not exactly perfectly consistent pairing).
This worked on my Mac Pro (early 2008).
To the other posters who have been unsuccessful at installing Boot Camp:
Have you tried right-clicking (Alt+Enter) on the 'BootCamp.exe' file (found by opening the OS X installation disc to explore the BootCamp\Apple folder) - and then selecting 'Run as Administrator'? This will sometimes allow the installers to run even if they have some type of compatibility issue.
    Good luck.

  • Windows 8 Bootcamp Brightness Issue

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Desplay 15" with bootcamp installed with Windows 8. I use an LCD Cinema display at my desk for more screen space and it works fine when I'm using OSX but not with Windows 8. No matter how I change the settings I can't get the brightness on the display to change. It is always at the highest settting and it is super uncomfortable to use. It may be a problem with Windows 8 and extra displays but that would be really weird for an OS like Windows.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It would be a great help.

Are you trying to change brightness via that boot camp diamond icon in the system tray? Have you also disabled adaptive brightness in power settings?

  • Bootcamp display problems - aluminium iMac

    Hi
I have an aluminium iMac and I have recently installed windows on it. Everything went fine but there seems to be a problem with the display driver?
What happens is that when I'm doing something, the computer seems to freeze (music lags) then the display goes black and the computer runs as normal (the music starts playing normally again.)
I thought it was only when I was playing Counter Strike Source but it happens when I'm not too. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes/ suggestions?
I've tried repairing bootcamp drivers but to no avail.
    Thanks

I was having Display Problems on my Intel 20" iMac- weird artifacts, lines, distortion of parts of the screen, weird color patterns, etc... all seemed to happen mostly during viewing video on the computer.
I worried that it was the card itself, and after about 4-5 years of use, was simply going bad-- and some articles and posts I found online seemed to confirm that this was possible--
I kept reading and eventually found posts about using smcFanControl to raise the fan rpm manually to try to keep things cooler in there... It seemed to work somewhat but not really, and the artifacts would continue and the computer itself was hot. The temp was usually constantly around 145F with lots of artifacts and distortion. When it wasn't running video or being used a lot, it would cool down and the artifacts would wane.
I found a step by step guide on ifixit.com to opening the iMac body to replace various components, etc. so I got the bright idea of opening it and blowing it out with compressed air.
It wasn't that hard to open and the guide was easy to follow, I went as far as removing the screen, which exposed one side of the guts and the fans. I blew it all out, it was dusty in there, and a lot of dust came out.
I put it all back and am running a netflix movie- temp is staying at about 125 +- and there are no artifacts...!!
I think I might have actually fixed it-- If you have a mac that is running hot and has weird screen artifacts, behavior, etc... I suggest dusting it and blowing out vents, fans, etc to allow it to run cooler....
Oh, My computer is way out of warranty, and I don't have AppleCare, and everything is backed up, etc... open at your own risk, knowing you will probably void any warranty.

Same issue suddenly started with my imac this week.
I have had it set at zero since I bought it, but since Wednesday I have had to reset it every time I reboot.
I have checked and repaired permissions ( the same 20 or so that always appear no matter how many times you repair them!) and will try to reset the Pram as that is where the setting should be stored.

  • Iphone 5 Ios 6.1.4 brightness problem

I have a problem with my iphone 5 running ios 6.1.4
Randomly, sometimes when pushing the home button, or pressing the power button, the brightness of the screen goes all the way down to zero (dimly lit).
I have to go in to settings and tap the brightness to get it to back to full.
(the slider bar shows maximum even if the screen is dark - auto brightness is set to off)
I've read many posts about calibrating , using auto-brightness etc., but I have auto-brightness set to OFF, and the brightness set to maximum. That is the way I like it.
So any ideas whats going on? How to fix the issue. I repeat - I do not want to use auto-brightness, I simply want the iphone brightness to be set to maximum, at all times.
    Thanks
    Mike

Your phone is inappropriately going into pre-autolock dimming.  Try:
    1. Reset phone (no data loss): press both power and home buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.
    2. Restore in iTunes using a backup
    3. Restore in iTunes as new, without a backup.
If #3 doesn't help, there is a hardware problem that needs warranty service.

  • Video brightness problems with mini hooked up to TV

I have a Late 2012 Mac mini that I use as a media hub in my living room. It's hooked up via HDMI to a Pioneer amp and then the display is piped to a Samsung TV. When watching content purchased through the iTMS in full-screen mode, the brightness changes every few seconds from what looks to be "normal" to fairly dark and muddy. The content is watchable, but the constant change in brightness does get annoying. If I watch the content inside the iTunes window, I don't get the strobing; it's only when watching the video Full Screen. I've looked through the settings on the amp and the TV but haven't found one that affects the problem I'm seeing. Has anyone else seen something like this? Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot it?

    Hi.
It seems that I finally have found a solution to this problem. It is not perfect, but at least it stops the screen from changing the brightness randomly when watching movies from my mac mini.
The solution is to go into settings, accessability and turn on switch control. I hide the switch control as much as possible in one of the corners down to the left or right corner and makes it as small as possible. It seems it must be active on order to stop the screen from flickering, so I can live with that.
As I said, it is not perfect because a small corner of the switch control will be visible while watching movies, but it is better than the flickering.
If anyone has another or better solution to this problem I´m all ears:)
Have a flicker free afternoon all who have had this problem on mac´s or other iOS devices.

  • Windows 8.1 Bootcamp Bluetooth Problem

Hi to everyone, hi have one big problem whit windows 8.1 and bootcamp on my macbook pro 13'' i7 late 2012... i cannot find i try also to format it again and reistall windows .... I cannot fine the switch to turn off bluetooth, is not caming out i no understand why.. all other switch like wifi and areo yes... somebody can help me please (the bluetooth is working fine but i cannot switch off because no way) sorry for my bad english

Anyone have an answer for this yet?  I have a bluetooth headset that I share between my Macbook Pro, iPhone, iPad and Kindle Fire.  In Mavericks, it's simple.  I can just turn off bluetooth so the Macbook doesn't pair with the headset and it will instead pair with my iPad or iPhone for example.  But I can't figure out an easy way to do the same when I'm booted into Windows 8.1.  The only option I could find is have Windows 8.1 "forget" the device.  Which means when I want to use it again with Windows, I'll have to go through the handshake process again.
