Bootcamp broken after adding 3rd partition
I've broken Bootcamp after foolishly attempting to add another partition on Lion (to install Snow Leopard, to run Quicken 2007). Now I can't boot into Windows. Interestingly, I can access it via Parallels, but there are times I need to be in native mode. Any ideas on how to fix it? I tried booting off the Windows 7 install CD, but when I get to the repair screen, it gives me an error that the system isn't the right version to repair. Odd, in that it's the system that was installed off that very disk, though it has been updated via patches over the last year.
Any help in a way to not have to reinstall everything?
Thanks!
Added a partition how? Disk Utility doesn't let you do this. Although the command line utility 'diskutil' will let you split partitions. I don't know if it properly writes out a new hybrid MBR however. Apple hardware is EFI firmware based, and EFI and Apple's OS installer want a GPT disk. But the CSM-BIOS that Apple uses for Windows support isn't activated unless there's an MBR. So there is a very non-standard and fragile thing called a hybrid MBR which is what Bootcamp creates to support Windows. Chances are, by adding a new partition, it was added to the GPT causing a new GPT and protective MBR to be created, wiping out the hybrid MBR. It is possible to fix this without reinstalling anything (assuming you haven't corrupted any partitions indvertently which is possible with hybrid MBRs), and for free.
In terminal, type this command, post the results:
diskutil list
This will list all disks and partitions for those disks, from the GPT. Chances are the disk you're interested in is disk0, which I will assume in the next command:
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
This command will list the partitions for disk0, from the MBR.
Once I know what that looks like, I'd have a better idea of the state of the disk. The next step involves getting GPT Fdisk (also called gdisk) from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/
This can be used to create a new hybrid MBR and set the active (boot) flag on the proper MBR partition for Windows. It is a command line utility, the options to choose are not obvious for most people, you can easily get into big trouble quickly. So make sure you have a backup, go really slow, and ask for help. If you don't get it on the Apple forums, you can generally find knowlegable people about MBR and GPT, and dual booting situations on the Fedora Forum in the Mac forum.

Finally, I have order the white 2Ghz with 1GB ram and 80GB HDD macbook through the Apple Store online today ;D
But the wait is killing, delivery will be done by 15/6/06 :o
Anyway, I plan to dual boot the macbook with OSX and XP. In addition, I would also want to create a addition partition (the 3rd one) for my media files such as mp3, photos and movies clips so that I can assess these files on any of the OS which I choose to startup.
I have outline the steps, below, to create the 3rd partiton but I doubt it can work.
1) Install OSX
2) Install Bootcamp
3) Install XP using FAT32; so that I can access XP partition (I assume the 2nd partition will be created for me automatically when I install XP)
4) Using Disk Utilities in OSX to create another partition for my media files??? (Wouldn't this step destroy my 1st and 2nd partitions?)
Or I have to use a XP apps such as PartitionMagic to create the 3rd parition in XP? In this case, how do I go about creating the 3rd partitions (1st partition for OSX; 2nd for XP) for these media files? Lastly, will XP create its own partition automatically during installation?
Please enlighten me. ThksYou can do all this within Disk Utility although I would strongly disuade you from having 3 paritions. All this will do is to fragment your free drive space which ultimately will lead to problems. If you are wanting to share media between mac OS X and Windows XP then I would suggest you make the Windows parition slightly larger to accomodate the media and format it as FAT32. This way you can edit those file from both OSs.

Links get broken after adding photo gallery
I discovered a strange problem when creating a website with photo gallery.
I have a menubar with static links to all pages of the website which worked perfectly. Now after adding a photo grid the links of the my menubar are not clickable at all. This problem exists only if the photo thumbnail row is displayed. Do you have any ideas how to disable the thumbnail row automatically or any other workaround for this bug?I have the same problem. Please see http://www.campfieldhouse.co.uk/Campfield_House/Gallery.html The page links 1, 2 and 3 just don't work. This is all coded automatically and there are no options for this. Thanks

Bootcamp no longer bootable after adding and deleting partitions
I am using a 2014 Macbook Pro with OSX 10.9.5
I was trying to add a partition to install Ubuntu on and after adding and deleting partitions, my bootcamp partition will no longer boot whether I use rEFIt or bootcamp assistant or normal osx boot menu.
Judging from the information I got from similar threads on this I think this information will be useful

It wasnt like this before. Before 3 and 4 had some of the same values from above instead of all 0s. After trying to take advice from threads with similar problems and entering stuff into the command line it became like this. I think I might have messed thing up while looking for a quick fix.
Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.I'm not sure how to edit my replies so I'm just gonna make another reply. I assumed the following values:

NTFS Start

I followed the rest of the instructions given here. I made sure to enter the second number with a + sign. After doing all of that all these checks worked:
Test 1 - Does Bootcamp Volume show up in Finder?
Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp Volume?
Test 3 - Can you select Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?
I've always been able to access my bootcamp files from finder and I can try to boot from System Preferences -> startup disk, from rEFIt and also from my macbooks startup manager that I access by holding down option while booting.
I'm starting to think I've misrepresented my problem and that I've been looking at the wrong threads. Every time I try to boot windows I get a black screen with the Windows logo and some text saying something like "starting automatic recovery" or something like that. It then takes me to a blue screen displaying an error number and telling me to use recovery tools on the installation media. Maybe this is different from the problems I've been looking at in other threads.
I've tried using the same USB I used to install bootcamp with but it doesn't give me the option of repairing the installation.
EDIT: So I figured out how to edit replies. Anyway I just tried to boot into Windows and checked. The black screen with the Windows logo says "Preparing Automatic Repair". The blue screen gives me the error 0xc00000e. -
Bootcamp no longer works after adding partition via Windows 7
I needed a D: drive in Windows and shrunk the system (C:) partition and added another partition intended to be a secondary drive in Windows. After rebooting Windows throws a BSOD and I can't even select OS X as a bootable option. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction on how to fix? Thank you!

Adding another partition in the bootcamp partition
After install of Windows 7 on bootcamp I would like to shrink the Bootcamp partition and setup a second windows partition. Is this possible?

Perhaps you might mention the potential downside and possible pitfalls before suggesting it, you haven't been here long enough to see some of the problems this can cause.
Again I would claim I did both here and in my post.
This is your post.

Csound1 - I don't know why you keep saying that it is not possible when it is.

Help! Bootcamp issue after partition
Can anyone help me out. I have my bootcamp working normally, than in order to get more space, i have used the disk utility to partition my mac HD one more time. Than i rebooted it to the bootcamp and used Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition to expand the bootcamp HD. It worked perfectly but when i went back to the Mac HD to partition one more time ( i calculated wrong the amount of space i need back there) i noticed that i the bootcamp space in the disk utility did not increased, in fact it changed its name to DISK0S4 and i cant start my mac as a windows. Can anyone help me out.
PS: Sorry for my english, i'm Brazilian.now i ended up with this ... what should i do?

Hi, when Yosemite Beta came out I was really excited so I immediately installed it. Around a week after installing it, I tried booting into my BootCamp partition. Windows gave me the screen "No Bootable device found". I had Windows installed already can anyone help me?

Windows 7 install on Imac with 3rd partition
Hi there, I've been trying to install windows 7 on an Imac with a 3rd partition to store my files so they can be accessed on both the mac and pc install. I use the standard procedure for installing windows through bootcamp, which works fine, then when I try to generate the 3rd partition the windows install is not recognised by the computer. I have tried to generate the 3rd partition through the mac disc utility, the mac disc utility when used from the install disc and through the disc managment utility in windows 7 - none of which worked.
I found a post which gives a solution for this problem when installing windows xp - adjust the boot.ini file - but as far as I know the boot.ini file does not exist on windows 7.
Has anyone had the same problem and found a solution, or is there maybe a piece of software that fixes this issue?Did you look at the post just below this here?

While it has been done, there are always side effects and downside as well.
And you are up against the 4-partition limit of MBR. -
When I installed Windows 7 with bootcamp, bootcamp was not on my partition
I got windows 7, I have done this before and after installing you normally get the bootcamp assistant on your windows partition so that you can do drivers and such, I didnt get bootcamp on the partition and now I'm lost...
If anyone knows what I did wrong please aid me,
I do not have a Mac OSX snowleopard installation CD because it is a bad CD that doesn't work
If anyone knows how to get bootcamp on the paritions Id greatly appreciate it,
Iv already tried to reinstall in and it didnt work either,
Thanks in advance!Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first of: the BootCamp Assistant is a part of OSX and not on your WIndows partition.
The OSX DVD (either the one that came with your Mac or a retail-purchased one) is the only legal source of the BootCamp Drivers and the BootCamp Control Panel.
The updates Apple provides on their download site are updates-only and not suitable for a clean installation.
So, if your OSX DVD is bad (scratched or the like) get a new one from Apple or buy a retail Snow Leopard DVD for about 29 USD.
Regards

Unexpected error durung process after adding a new measure group
I add a new measure group with distinct count in my cube
I process my cube then I have:
Erreur interne : Une erreur inattendue s'est produite. Erreurs dans le moteur de stockage OLAP : Une erreur s'est produite lors du traitement de la partition 'Requirement' du groupe de mesures 'Formalized 1' pour le cube 'Requirements_view' à partir de la
base de données SeikoCube. (internal error : unexpected error happens ... An error occured when processing the partition for measure group for the cube)
If I delete this measure, it works well.
Whap happens ? How could I resolve it ?
Thanks in advanceHi Fiacre663,
According to your description, you encounter the error while processing the cube after added the distinct count to cube, right? In your scenario, which process option are you used to process the cube?
Generally, if you add a measure you are changing the structure of the cube which will invalidate the cube, the easiest way to get the cube "fully operational" again would be to do a ProcessFull. The same thing applies when removing a measure.
Besides, please ensure that the steps to add distinct count are correct. There are different options for creating a distinct count measure in SSAS. Please refer to the link below to see the details.

MacBook Pro bootcamp windows cant see FAT partition
I have 4 partitions on my SSD
- 1) MAC OS
- 2) SHARED ETC (MAC OS EXT)
- 3) SHARED WORK (FAT)
- 4) NTFS BOOTCAMP
I created two additional partitions (ETC, WORK) after I setup windows via bootcamp, also after I've done that I did a workaround to fix MBR because I wasn't able to boot Windows natively.
But for some reason when I am booting windows it is does not see ETC and WORK partitions! It should be able to see at least WORK(FAT) partition?
How do I fix that?
I want to be able to access WORK(FAT) partition from Windows and ETC(MAC OS EXT) partition as well, if it is possibleCant edit this question eny more, here is some more details http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/112449/macbook-pro-bootcamp-windows-can t-see-fat-partition

i installed the window 7 ultimate OS in to my mac book pro. after that the partition is not supported and then the folder with question mark flashing on my screen. plaese helf me what to do next to resume mac mac os x?
Assuming that you tried to install Win 7 in bootcamp.
Power on the machine and press and hold the "option" key when you hear the bong sound.
Select the Macintosh HD icon and press "return" or just click on the icon.
Once booted into OS X go to System Preferences and select the Startup Disk icon and configure startup to use the Macintosh HD.
