Bootcamp Cloning problem

I have had terrific help from everyone to get my OS drive cloned, but now I have hit a snag. I have a bootcamp partition on my old OS drive and Carbon Copy Cloner comes up with the following screen when I try to clone it to the new SSD OS drive.
Even I can work out that the partition isn't gunna work! I have tried diffrerent formats which I new would not work, but I had to have a go.
Can anybody her today solve this problem for me.

there is a way to do this..
use bootcamp assistant to create the bootcamp partition on the new drive.
use winclone to make a copy of the original bootcamp partition
restore the winclone file to the new bootcamp partition.
it worked for me on 10.6.8
good luck.

  • Bootcamp Driver Problems in Windows 8

I use a MBP 13" 2010 model, and I've used it for a long time, but it's never had any problems with Bootcamp until now.
Last month I bought a copy of Windows 8 Pro x64 (disc) and I wanted to install it on my recently clean-installed Mac. I installed it with no problems using Bootcamp. Booting into Windows 8, I found that the Bootcamp Drivers weren't compatible with Windows 8, but I looked up a guide that told me just to install the drivers one by one. I did that and rebooted.
The drivers still didn't work for some reason. The brightness controls weren't adjustable, the keyboard shortcuts didn't work, the trackpad failed as well, and numerous other problems plagued me in Windows mode. I re-installed the drivers and rebooted, but it still didn't work. I even installed the Nvidia display driver seperately, but no go. Is this Bootcamp's problem? Most likely the driver's out of date.
So I'm stuck using my office computer now, until I can find a way to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

    defan752,
I recently put Windows 8 (64bit) on my 15" 2009 MBP. I performed a clean install utilizing Boot Camp. I followed instructions found online. Prior to installing Win8, I had WinXP installed on a partition, which worked perfectly.
For my Win8 installation I upgraded my MBP's OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion comes with a newer version of Boot Camp (version 4.0 - I believe). The newer version has a slightly different process for driver installation. It has you create a driver installation disc within the Boot Camp Asstant software running on my Mac BEFORE creating the partition and installation. First it will connect to the interenet and download the latest support files for the drivers for your machine, then it will ask you to insert a blank disc, upon which it will write Windows friendly installation file (the disc contained an executable file [.exe] which is to be run on the newly installed windows parition). While Boot Camp (4.0 or whatever it is that came with Mountain Lion) doesn't have official support for Windows 8, utilizing the Windows 7 installation method will create a Driver CD that works in Win8. After creation of driver disc, follow the normal installation instructions (create partition, install win8). Once Win8 finishes installing, go to the desk top (Windows Button + D), pop in the driver disc and the Executable file. After the file runs the drivers will be installed but will require a reboot in order to be utilized. Reboot your machine and you should be good to go.
NOTE: hold on to that driver disc, I have already had to use it to repair some of my drivers that got messed (my own fault, not mac's or MS) and reran the executable file which fixed everything again.
NOTE: You will be able to utilize much of the drivers in the Win8 environment, however there are limitations. While the trackpad supports multitouch, it is limited (two finger right click, two finger scrolling). The nifty new multitouch gestures in Win8, are not yet supported. I suspect they will be with future updates to these drivers. But we won't get that until Boot Camp can fully support Win8. Also I noticed that my speakers don't switch to headphones when I plug them in, nor does it recognize the toslink connection. I'm still looking for answers to those problems.
For more details regarding the driver support in Windows 8 running on a Mac i found this website useful:

  • Windows 8.1 Bootcamp Bluetooth Problem

Hi to everyone, hi have one big problem whit windows 8.1 and bootcamp on my macbook pro 13'' i7 late 2012... i cannot find i try also to format it again and reistall windows .... I cannot fine the switch to turn off bluetooth, is not caming out i no understand why.. all other switch like wifi and areo yes... somebody can help me please (the bluetooth is working fine but i cannot switch off because no way) sorry for my bad english

Anyone have an answer for this yet?  I have a bluetooth headset that I share between my Macbook Pro, iPhone, iPad and Kindle Fire.  In Mavericks, it's simple.  I can just turn off bluetooth so the Macbook doesn't pair with the headset and it will instead pair with my iPad or iPhone for example.  But I can't figure out an easy way to do the same when I'm booted into Windows 8.1.  The only option I could find is have Windows 8.1 "forget" the device.  Which means when I want to use it again with Windows, I'll have to go through the handshake process again.

  • Windows 7 on bootcamp installation problem

    hi all,
i just had a new imac and was trying to install a windows home premium OEM 64 bit on bootcamp. installation is going fine until the completion stage where your suppose to set up winodws for first use, all it did is become a blank/ black screen and nothing happens. i waited for a long time until i decided to install it one more try. no luck. i tried to remove the partition and partitioned it again on bootcamp and had another go at installation, still no joy. have anyone had similar problems? i just prefered to install a windows natively instead of using parallels. can someone help me please? i would really appreciate it.

I made the mistake when setting up bootcamp by not formatting the partition during the windows setup.
So you could make sure you have partition on the mac side, and then when setting up i the windows side formattig the partition space before files are copied.

No. The amount of vram available is fixed, it can not be changed.

  • Windows 7 RC BootCamp/keyboard problem

    Hey,
I've installed Windows 7 RC on my MacBook. I tried to install BootCamp form Leopard DVD, but the installer says, that it can be run on XP or Vista only (any clues?). I've installed all drivers provided on DVD normally, by running each installer separately, but the problem is that keyboard doesn't work properly - I can't use volume, brightness, keyboard light keys. It seems that Keyboard Manager is needed, but as you know, I can't install BootCamp on Windows..
    HELP.

    carldavies1983,
You might try the following (assuming you have an alternative input device in W7RC):
1 - Load the 'Add a device' dialog for bluetooth
2 - Wait until your device is listed and just select it (highlight only)
3 - Right-click (or press 'Alt+Enter') the highlighted item and select 'Properties'
4 - Go to the 'Services' tab and wait until it lists a 'Drivers' check box
5 - Place a check mark in the box and click 'Apply'
6 - Click on the notification balloon that pops up on the right end of the taskbar to watch the progress of installation (it will probably say something like 'Windows Update..'
7 - When done, your device should disappear from the list and should now have functionality (although from my experience not exactly perfectly consistent pairing).
This worked on my Mac Pro (early 2008).
To the other posters who have been unsuccessful at installing Boot Camp:
Have you tried right-clicking (Alt+Enter) on the 'BootCamp.exe' file (found by opening the OS X installation disc to explore the BootCamp\Apple folder) - and then selecting 'Run as Administrator'? This will sometimes allow the installers to run even if they have some type of compatibility issue.
    Good luck.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 2006 and installed Windows 7 on it with BootCamp no problem, but the thing is on Windows, there is no sound.

Hello there everybody! I have installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro 2006 15' without any problems, and without any modification. I did hear that some users couldn't install it, but I have got it working fine with BootCamp 4.0.1 on Lion. So anyways, when I boot into Windows, there is no soudn, and there is also a Red Light coming from the Earphone/Headphone jack.
What should I do? This problem is really ticking me off because I only insalled Windows to lay some games my friend recommended to me. With no sound, it would be really strange playing them, especially Mass Effect.

Well I / we always kind of assume that someone did all the normal basics first and is still having trouble. And read the instructions in Boot Camp Assistant.

  • E3200 - https and mac cloning problem

Took me one whole day to get it working. 3 different Linksys tech supports worked with me in chat sessions for 5-6 hours. Eventually, figured out a trick that would get it working every time: I had to do mac address cloning manually, because somehow this router doesn't work with my cable modem with default mac address?
The funny thing is that the first 2 tech support guys already helped me find out we should do manual mac cloning to get it working, yet the 3rd tech support guy insisted that Cisco Connect software already took care of mac cloning, there's no need to manually do it, and the only thing to blame is the intermittent network connection of my ISP. But my old D-Link works fine with the cable modem and the ISP. It's just this new E3200 router kept having problem, unless I manually clone mac address...
Another funny thing is that, the setup page of the router allows you to enable https, yet https apparently doesn't work on this version of firmware (as of Mar 23 2012). I disabled http and enabled https only, hoping that it'd be more secure to access the setup pages that way, only to find out that since https doesn't work, there's no way to log into the router any more, unless I reset it...

To set the router all it requires is a proper physical connectivity between your modem, router and computer. There are 2 way to setup the router.
    1)      Setting it up through Cisco Connect software.
    2)      Setting it up through manual configuration.
Here is the link for setting up the router through Cisco Connect Software: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=e30f926604334d538668529cb50ad174_21463.xml&pid=80&...

Second, I would like to ask few question. Like did you try opening up the router management page by “https://192.168.1.1” in Internet Explorer 8. If not, then try to open the Router Management page in the same manner in any other browser and check whether it opens or not.

  • Deep Cloning problem

I am having problems deep cloning a LinkedList object which contains serializable objects. I have tried using hand coded deep cloning and using the byteArray output and input streams.
    But nothing is working :(.
My code currently looks like this:
    public LinkedList clones(LinkedList list){
       LinkedList deepCopy = new LinkedList();
       for(int x = 0; x < list.size(); x++){
          myClasstemp = new myClass((materials)list.get(x));
          deepCopy.add(new myClass(temp));
       return deepCopy;
}cloning using just new myClass works when I am using individual objects, but when I try applying this to the new linkedlist, nothing happens. Is my error in the fact I am using .get? Or is it somewhere else in my code?
My problem is that when I remove an object from the original LinkedList, the deepclone is changed as well.

to be as detailed as possible, my problem is that I actually have 2 classes. One class is a structure object which contains basic properties like doubles and strings. And the other has doubles and strings as well and includes a LinkedList containing objects from the first class. To for an example, I have a student and School class where a School object contains a LinkedList holding all the students at the school.
What I am trying to do is make a Cancel button. So, what I want is to make a copy of the original school, so if while editing the school, I decide I want to revert back to my original settings, I can by pressing the cancel button. So far, I can only accomplish this with the student class but not the School class. Does that make sense?

  • L440 cloning problem

Brand new L440 with WD 1TB HDD.
Brand new Kingston HyperX 3K 240G SSD.
Goal:  clone  the HDD (at this point not much more than the OS - Windows 7 - there is 208G of free space) to the SSD.  Software: Acronis True Image Home 2010 which I have had for a couple of years (used successfully to do the same thing 2 years ago with different equipment).
Disk manager sees both disks and pronounces them healthy.
Cloning setup:  HDD in L440, SSD in USB3.0 docking station, connected to USB port on L440.  Can see the SSD from the L440.  Disk manager indicates that about 15G of storage is being used on the SSD.
Process begins, and a page or so of terse lines of code (white on black) come up and then process pauses (no indicator of anything happening).
    Then nothing happens.  For hours.
When I abort the process and check on the SSD, it's just as empty as it was at the beginning of the process.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Hi eyetrply,
using Acronis, or any other similar software, when cloning a ThinkPad I always reverse clone because not doing so can cause problems.  Try cloning with the new SSD installed as primary drive with the original drive attached through USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0 which Acronis will not have the drivers for.
You can find a few articles on cloning in the forum's Knowledgebase, just search on "cloning acronis"

  • Bootcamp display problems - aluminium iMac

    Hi
I have an aluminium iMac and I have recently installed windows on it. Everything went fine but there seems to be a problem with the display driver?
What happens is that when I'm doing something, the computer seems to freeze (music lags) then the display goes black and the computer runs as normal (the music starts playing normally again.)
I thought it was only when I was playing Counter Strike Source but it happens when I'm not too. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes/ suggestions?
I've tried repairing bootcamp drivers but to no avail.
    Thanks

I was having Display Problems on my Intel 20" iMac- weird artifacts, lines, distortion of parts of the screen, weird color patterns, etc... all seemed to happen mostly during viewing video on the computer.
I worried that it was the card itself, and after about 4-5 years of use, was simply going bad-- and some articles and posts I found online seemed to confirm that this was possible--
I kept reading and eventually found posts about using smcFanControl to raise the fan rpm manually to try to keep things cooler in there... It seemed to work somewhat but not really, and the artifacts would continue and the computer itself was hot. The temp was usually constantly around 145F with lots of artifacts and distortion. When it wasn't running video or being used a lot, it would cool down and the artifacts would wane.
I found a step by step guide on ifixit.com to opening the iMac body to replace various components, etc. so I got the bright idea of opening it and blowing it out with compressed air.
It wasn't that hard to open and the guide was easy to follow, I went as far as removing the screen, which exposed one side of the guts and the fans. I blew it all out, it was dusty in there, and a lot of dust came out.
I put it all back and am running a netflix movie- temp is staying at about 125 +- and there are no artifacts...!!
I think I might have actually fixed it-- If you have a mac that is running hot and has weird screen artifacts, behavior, etc... I suggest dusting it and blowing out vents, fans, etc to allow it to run cooler....
Oh, My computer is way out of warranty, and I don't have AppleCare, and everything is backed up, etc... open at your own risk, knowing you will probably void any warranty.

  • WIFI Works Fine On Win7 (bootcamp), Gives Problem On Mac OS X

I have iMac 27" late 2012 Model. ( Updated To Maverick OS 10.9)
i cant use my internet due to less wifi strength.it gets connected and the next moment it disconnects
    I Installed win7 Via Bootcamp.
Wifi signals are same and i can use my internet and its running too smoothly.
    I didn't moved my Mac a inch.
    What To Do..
I want to use my net with maverick :/

Try any of these suggestions that you haven;t already. They mainly reference Lion?Mountain Lion but may still be relevent to Mavericks:
    In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion and possibly Mavericks:

  • BootCamp + iDefrag problems (macmini)

Im tryng to install Windows on my mac mini. When I go to boot camp I got a message saying tha there are some files in my disk that couldnt be moved.
To solve this problem, I make a search over the internet and find out a program called iDefrag.
So I bought the program. Unfortunetly, for making a full defragment of my Disk its necessary to do it with the primary disk unmounted. So the vendor created a software named Coriolis CdMaker to creat a boot disk and make the full defrag.
But my macmini doesnt have a dvd burner (superdrive) and I could not creat this dvd. I also tryed to burn over the network, with a driver on a PC, but with no success.
How can I creat this DVD? I dont have any external drive and other mac. I also dont plan to buy.
Is there a way to solve this problem without formatting?
(I see that my free space is 98% fragmented).
    Screenshot of burning options: http://img81.imageshack.us/i/imagem2kev.png/
    Thank u all

The cheapest answer is to find another Mac and have them burn the DVD for you.
Maybe you have an iPod you can put into disk mode? If so you can use it for a boot drive.
Too bad you don't plan to buy an external drive for a backup. You will either have a better setup for the future, or become very good at solving every kind of problem a program or OS update can do to trash your system, or be forced to reinstall your OS whenever serious problems do appear.
I wouldn't even bother with iDefrag if you have a second hard drive. I'd use Disk Utility to "Restore", or SuperDuper! to clone your OS to a partition on the second drive. Then boot from the second drive and do it again from the second drive to the first drive.
This puts all of your OS and files into a partition that is small enough for you to create a second partition for BootCamp.
Then again, you could just use Disk Utility to "Restore" your iDefrag boot disk image to a partition the second drive and boot from it.
The good news is that you need a second drive for Time Machine backups, and/or a SuperDuper bootable clone anyway, so the money for the drive is not wasted.
Another alternative is to pick up an inexpensive external DVD burner. This would also not go to waste when you want to burn DVD's or if your internal optical drive fails.

  • HD Cloning Problem

I have a G3 Pismo laptop running Tiger & a G4 desktop running Panther. The G4 HD is partitioned so that I can backup the Pismo’s HD to the G4’s HD partition. To do the cloning, I put the Pismo in Target Disk mode & interface it via Firewire to the G4. I have done this many times using the Restore feature of Disk Utility and CarbonCopy Cloner.
However, now I’m having problems cloning. CCC stalled about 2/3 of the way on the first and several more attempts. Later I quit the cloning & restarted CCC and left it running over night, but had the same stall results. I got the same stall when using Disk Utility’s Restore function. I downloaded SuperDuper, but I still get the stall.
I’ve run Disk Utility on the HD and run DiskWarrior v4 on the HD; with everything being OK. I’ve repaired Permissions. All of these cloning utilities must analyze the files somehow & stop the cloning if it finds a problem file. Both the Pismo & G4 are operating OK.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve this problem?
     Cheers, Tom

First off, cloning one Mac to another is not recommended. This can especially be a problem if you attempt to use one Mac's installed operating system to boot another if they are a different model, or vintage of that model. System specific installation features may not work on one model that work on another. This limitation is not consistent. Some have been able to do this without issue, but you also run into license agreement restrictions as well. If you are doing that, stop! You are better off getting an external hard drive for cloning.
You may not have sufficient space to store the clone. It is a generally accepted arbitrary maximum, but you should never let a hard drive get more than 85% full.
Also a problem you may run into when cloning is if other applications are running while the clone takes place. To eliminate that problem, I let the computer stand alone when it is cloning, and run in a separate admin user that has no startup items installed. What generally makes a problem for this is the fact that any file that is being written when the backup happens, may only be partially written, and thus become corrupted in the copy. Creating a new one admin user will do that for you, and just simply not install anything on that user except make sure the backup software will run on it.

  • Bootcamp Installation Problem

    Hi Guys,
Need some help here. I am totally struggling with my bootcamp installation. Here is what is going on, lets see if someone has had similar problems and can help me out.
I have a Macbook Pro 15´ late 2011. I just updated the computer, installed 16gb of RAM and a 240 GB SSD made by Crucial (http://www.crucial.com/store/ProductMarketing_m500.aspx). As usual update my old hard drive is installed where the DVD drive was and my new SSD where the original driva was. Mavericks is running smooth, huge difference when starting the computer or loading applications. The problem comes when I went out to install Bootcamp.
First I tried installing W7 with an standard procedure following bootcamp assistant. The problem comes when the computer restarts to start installing the OS, it gets stuck into a black page with a blincking line cursor. Nothing happens. Stays there forever. Tried different methods and no chance.
So I decided to try with USB installation. Realized after a lot of research that the bootcamp assistant wont let you install by USB as you are supposed to use your optical drive. I made some research and found out that you could change some parameters under the bootcamp app so that the app lets you make all the USB installation. Tried this with W8 and Worked fine, but when installing windows tells me that the OS cant be installed under my SSD , some error regarding the drive.
Tried the same as the one before with W7 but this time my mac pro would not even recognized the drive where all the windows installation was mounted.
I have tried everything and I cannot get to a solution. Has someone had so much truble????
please!! any help will be gladly received.
    best!
    Fernando

The last poster who had this problem installed with a "too old" version of Windows and we spent a week on the problem before he mentioned it. Do you have Xp + SP2? If you do not have SP2 version you can stop right here. Make sure you install exactly to Apple's requirements and nothing can go wrong. Take a short-cut and you can potentially wreck even your OSX...
