Bootcamp crash when un-partitioning, lost partitions/space

Ok, here's the deal:
A mate of mine has a few HDDs in his Mac Pro (4x core intel, running 10.5.2) and one of them was a ~300GB drive that had a FAT32 volume of 32GB used as a swap drive for running windows (not needed now with NTFS drivers) and an HFS+ volume that took up the remaining space ~260GB.
He used the Bootcamp Utility to attempt to amalgamate the partitions back into a single partition, and Bootcamp crashed during the process. Now all that remains is the 32GB FAT32 formatted volume, and nothing else. The remaining space is not available and can't be accessed in any way. When looking at the drive in Disk Utility it says that it's a FAT32 volume of 298GB, with 32GB free (the swap drive is empty).
Now I assume this means that the partition map/directory structure is screwed, but I'm (hoping) assuming that the original HFS+ partition is still there and the data on it is intact... We kinda need it back :P I've attempted a /sbin/fsck -fy on the drive in single user mode, but that responded with BAD SUPERBLOCK: MAGIC NUMBER WRONG and refused to do anything else, since the only partition visible is FAT32 formatted, anything I try with 3rd party apps tends to be rejected as they'll only play with HFS/HFS+ volumes.
I'm about to try Diskwarrior and perhaps Techtool Pro, otherwise I might see if I can find any of the data using Data Rescue II. Any help would be greatly appreciated

BootCamp Assistant: at the bottom of the screen, there is an option to print out the manual. First step: BACKUP.
If you can boot Windows, you might try reading HFS volumes with HFSExplorer which is a read only utility.
I don't have much faith in DW or TTP fixing a partition table problem.

  • Finder Crashed when Moving Files - Lost Files!

So I was dragging and dropping a bunch of files on my network drive and finder crashed... well I guess it started to move some files because when Finder restarted, some fo the files were missing!
Finder seems to "delete" the file before it has confirmed a file has been moved?
This seems to be a very risky behaviour...

Select the external drive and do a Get Info (command - I) on it to see if there is an ignore ownership box you can check.

You don't say whether your project is on your local drive (correct) or on a network (wrong). If the latter, try moving it first.
Have you tried renaming the CPD file and then reopening RH? On opening, a new file will be created and that often fixes issues such as this. Because you have been removing files via Windows Explorer, there may be some tidying up to do.

  • Bootcamp Crash when installing drivers

I have a 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro (Mid-2014) and whenever I try to install the drivers for windows 7, I get a BSoD halfway through, reversing the whole process. I have tried getting the most up to date drivers, I have searched all over google, I have tried probably 15~20 times. Nothing has worked and am starting to get extremely frustrated. Sadly I don't have the exact error message associated with the BSoD being it goes away in about 5 seconds. If anyone knows a way to get this to properly work, I would be glad for the help.

Your BC drivers can only be downloaded via Bootcamp Assistant as shown in System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support.
BC drivers should be version 5.1.5766. All other versions are not the correct ones.

  • Bootcamp crashed removing partition, now stuck with 60GB "Free Space"

    I have a MacBook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013 with a 250GB hard drive running Mavericks 10.9.3
I use to have a 60GB windows partition setup via bootcamp, but I haven't used it in a while and wanted the space back. Bootcamp crashed half way through removal, and now I have a 60GB of Free Space that I am unable to resize the existing Mac partition into, nor can I use that space to create any new partitions. I try and no error appears, yet when I leave the partitions tab it says I've got unsaved changes.
I've gone into recovery mode and run a repair disk, and to resize it while still inside recovery mode. Nothing seems to help.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

  • BootCamp crashes computer when partitioning !!!

Ok. So I've tried about two times (which felt like one time too much):
I can't get BootCamp to partition my harddrive. It just crashes the whole computer (yepp, that message that "tells me to press the computers resetbutton etc" sign).
Every time I had to make BIG REPAIRS in DiskWarrior (lets hope all data on the computer is intact).
WHAT SHOULD I DO? Of course I want to be able to run BootCamp. It worked pre 10.5.2
And yes...ive repaired and optimized everything...so it has to be something else.
    PLEASE HELP! =(

I was having the same problem....used the install disk 3 times to recover the space. I read on another forum about this fix...I did this and it worked for me.
Using the install disk in disk untility mode, after fixing the disk error and recovering the space, using the disk utility on the the install disk, I created a second partition slightly larger than the one I planned on using for bootcamp, I used 11G's. Apparently, when creating this new partition the sofware, defrags or reformats the new partition space, I don't know the technical details...anyway, it creates a clean partition space. After the new partition space is created, I reversed it so to speak and expanded my original HD to the full capacity, eliminating the newly created 2nd partition.
The post I read said that this would clean up the HD so bootcamp would work when I created the new partition. It did.
I rebooted the machine, went to bootcamp and for the 4th time ran the program choosing the partition size slightly smaller than the one I created and erased earlier, 10.5G. Bada-Bing...it worked, no crash and I'm off to the races. Sorta.
After downloading Fusion, I had another problem which was solved by following the recommendations in this thread:
A new message was posted in the thread "After launching on my MacBook Air, Fusion appears on screen than immediatly closes down":

Hopefully, this will work for you as well....good luck.

  • BootCamp crashed during partitioning

Today, when i was trying to instal windows in my Mac, the software crashed during the partitioning.
I had set the partitioning for 400GB for windows, and 350 for Mac, but after it crashed and logged back in, my partition did not gave me the option to delete the partition, and when i tried to create a new one, i had lost my 400GB, I have tried using disk utility, but only the mac partition shows(capacity: 750GB, Available: 200GB), I also tried repairing it, but when i verified, it said that there was no problem.
Can someone please help me, I bought my mac less than 2 months ago

With all the damage you have done, you might as well boot with Command + R depressed
Then start up disk utility and erase the disk and reinstall Lion again.
Once you done with that you can start over again on Boot Camp.

  • Strange error when Bootcamp attempts to create partition for Windows

I get a strange error when I tell Bootcamp to create a partition for Windows. I get to the Create a Partition stage. I select 20GB for Windows leaving 91GB (39GB free) for OS X. I then click Partition and it gives me the following error
*The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.*
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
My disk is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), I have closed all applications (besides Bootcamp Assistant) and I have even restarted and tried again to see if that might help. Nothing. I can't get it to partition. Any thoughts? Can I partition my disk manually through disk utility and then select it in Bootcamp?

  • Cant't make bootcamp to make a partition in ntfs and not in fat

Hi, I started my bootcamp asistant, when I put continue, it ask me, how many "gb" I want to dedicate to windows. I do everything the assitant told me, but when I try to instal my windows 7 64 bit. It says to me that I have to use a partitioned "ntfs" space not a "fat" one. But i didn't find any part in my assitant that ask me wich kind of partition I want to do. Anyone can help me?

The Windows installer provides a formatter to use prior to installing Windows. You can use it to format the partition NTSF. If you don't know how to install Windows and format the drive, then read the Boot Camp documentation within the Boot Camp Assistant or post a query for assistance in the Windows Compatibility or Boot Camp forum.

  • Bootcamp not using full partitioned amount.......

So my Bootcamp hard drive is partitioned for 25gb. However, it is only using 15gb. I am trying to install a game that is about 14gb but I don't have enough room for the other software I need. So, in short, Why won't it use those other 10 gb????!!! It's driving me nuts! They don't register as empty, but no matter how hard a search through all my files there's only a max of 14/15 gb of stuff on there. But I still keep getting these warnings saying that I have no hard drive space left.
Does anyone know what's going on?

It's up to you. I've never dealt with WinClone so I'm not sure how well it does or doesn't work. I do see it recommended on the boards often, though, and it's an application that works while you're in OS X. Worth looking at, at least!
When you repartition the drive, the Boot Camp Assistant may say it doesn't have enough space to create the partition, even though your hard drive certainly DOES have the space there. The issue is that the Assistant needs contiguous space (basically a large chunk all in one spot) and it can't find a spot big enough due to fragmentation on the drive. Applications like iDefrag could help, but, personally, I'd just reformat the drive and start over.

  • (bootcamp) graphics card crash when playing games

Firstly apologies if I've put this in the wrong section of the forum... this is the most applicable I could find.
Having tried to enquire at the good folks of AMD, they told me I needed to see apple. Finding a support email is nigh on impossile - so either that or advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated!
I have a boot camp partition on a mid 2011 macbook pro - my graphics card is Radeon HD 6750M.
I have recently been experiencing graphics card crashes when playing games.
There is no boot camp update available, so I am forced to update the driver manually. Trying to use the automated detection/installation tool on the ATI site resulted in the error "your computer doesn't have a proper graphics adapter"
When I located and downloaded the mac bootcamp drivers from the ATI site site, and I tried to install these it was unable to detect my existing microsoft C++ distributable or install its own - so the installation failed.
    All advice welcome!

yeah - it *might* have fixed my issue - or at least it hasn't crashed yet... jynxed it now ofcourse ;p I have acouple of questions though...
Why did this just start happening - I've played other games and this game before without these crashing issues?
I'm worried about configuring this fan thing correctly - lots of 'if your hardware gets damages it's not my problem' warnings on the software site. I know there's only 4 options - how do I ensure I select the right one? ie I thought I had a unibody macbook pro but it can't find the second GPU?

  • WARNING: Insufficient disk partition space.

  • How can I uninstall Bootcamp and Recover the partition for the Mac HD

How can I uninstall Bootcamp and recover the partition for the IMac HD?

Boot into OSX.  Go back into the Bootcamp utility in the Utilities folder and re-run it.  It will give you the option to remove the Windows partition and make the OSX partition fill the whole drive again.  OSX will NOT be lost in the process.  No re-installing necessary.  Only takes a few minutes or less to complete.

  • BootCamp Windows 7 - Crashes when woken from Sleep Mode

Consistent problem on the WIN 7 side of the partitioned HD- goes into Sleep Mode either manually or on a timer, and then crashes when woken up; No problem using Sleep Mode on OSx side.
Not likely MS will provide a solution. All recent upgrades/updates installed.
Running WIN 7 Home Premium 64Bit
Need to save the plant and conserve energy!
    Any suggestions?

Ok, so it's certainly a Broadcom wifi adapter. The Lenovo nomenclature refers to it as "1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter (43142)". But why are you trying to install Realtek drivers?
The only driver I could find is this one, for Windows 8. Please uninstall all other drivers, reboot and install this one, or let Windows find a suitable driver and see if that works. Also please read the document from the link, it gives detailed instructions on installation and uninstallation, how to check version number etc.
It might be the case that you have to wait a bit for an updated driver for win 8.1 to resolve the problem, but It doesn't hurt if we try to find a solution.
