  • MacBook Pro 17"... JUST REPAIRED VIA APPLE STORE ...CD/DVD Drive wont mount disks

Macbook Pro (17") wouldn't boot to desktop/homescreen, so I went to Apple.
They sent me to Micro Center for data recovery.  Success.
After that, back to Apple then they sent me to Best Buy for new Hard Drive.  Success.
Back to Apple.  Everything working ok except that my Adobe Creative Suite programs no longer work.
So I try to reinstall via data CD, as I did when I originally installed the programs, but now my CD/DVD drive wont mount ANY disks!
It accepts them, makes some odd noises, then spits back out.  Please help!

I'm confused, why did Apple 'send' you to 2 non Apple places for repairs? Did you buy the product from Best Buy? It doesn't seem like Apple made any repairs, so you'll have to get either Micro Center or Best Buy to repair the issue for you.
How long ago were these repairs?

  • MY HARD DRIVES WONT MOUNT, HELP

I recently bought the Lacie 250 gig fire 400 (I also have a 160 gig porche hard drive) and it worked for awhile. But a few weeks ago when I turned my computer on the hard drive would not mount. I took my computer to the mac store and the tech tested my fire wire and they were just fine. Then he hooked up a hard drive from the store and they mounted just fine. Now heres the weird part. When I brought my computer home both my hard drives mounted just fine. But here we are a few weeks later and now they will not mount again. I have tried everything possible to mount these drives from changing firewire cords to unplugging everything and still nothing. Now the tech said that he thinks that the computer cant tell the difference between the two drives and thats why they wont mount. I need help bad!!!!!!!!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If you have the drive backed up, you could
try this. With it plugged in and on go into
disc utility. Check to see if the parent
drive is visible. The drive that is not
mounting is considered a volume mount point.
This is the named volume that you gave it.
The parent drive will have the name the
    factory gave it.
    Select the parent disc
and try repairing or verifying the disc
to see if it helps. As a last resort you
can erase the disc using no security and
this will usually get the volume to mount.
I would install a OS on it so that it is
    more likely to mount.
It will appear that your volume is empty
when actually you data is there but the
    directories have been removed.You could
get your data back with a file
    recovery program.
    I would try the OSX
forum, they will know a few tricks you
might try. Only do the erase as a last
    resort.

  • Disc util error and drive wont mount

Today, allof my file randomely were locked and I couldn't open them. I tried dis util and got this error: Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit. Didn't know what to do, I went to Macintosh HD => get info. I set everything accesible by me by hitting apply to close itmes. Then I restarted the compter with the leopard disc and ran discutil there. Same error. Repair didn't work.
Then I tried to restart the competer to go into the regular Mac OSX partition and it wont mount. any idea?
Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit. That is the only error. It does not say "Drive needs repair" or "HFS something..." like theother questions I've seen.
    Thanks,

    Hi
You could try DiskWarrior. It is quite good at fixing things Disk Utility won't.

  • HELP! External Lacie Drive wont mount!

    Hi Guys,
I have a really important problem. I'm currently working with two 4Big Lacie Drives. Both drives were working fine last week. But I go to turn it on today and the 8TB drive (the other being a 4TB), wont mount. This drive has been working fine for about a month. It hasn't been knocked or anything, and was locked away over the weekend.
Today the drive can be seen in Disk Utility but I cant repair or verify the disk. And the one partition it has doesn't show up like its sister drive does. I have tried different power supplies and cables, as well as connecting it to another mac.
It is really important I get this drive working, as I am working to a tight deadline and fear I do not have time to re-format and then re-copy all 8TB of video I need onto this drive (FYI my files are backed up but in another location).
Please let me know any thoughts sASAP. And sorry if I havent included enough info.
    Thanks,
    Phil.

Most likely the external AC power supply brick is bad. If the drive is under warranty LaCie will replace the brick no charge and if it is not they sell the supplies on their website for around $20 US.

  • Usb hard drive wont mount

i have a drive i use on my old computer but my new mac book pro wont even recognize it. anyone have any fixes for this.

I hope that you can help me as well. I just spent 2 hours with Apple tech support to no avail (case # 83844913). I have a Thecus Y.E.S nano N1050 OTG/USB photo bank enclosure on a 40GB drive that I took out of my powerbook when I put in a bigger drive. It mounts fine on my powerbook and it mounts on my macbook pro when in Windows XP but nothing happens in mac mode on my MBP. I've tried providing it with external power, doing that battery removal reset thing, running disk utilities repair, checking for the drive while booting from the install CD. It's weird that it mounts in Bootcamp (which I've uninstalled now) and I previously formatted it in bootcamp as fat32. On my powerbook titanium (which I just wiped and re-installed the newest OS) it mounts fine so I formatted it as MS-dos and it still mounts fine there and backs-up photos fine from cameras but won't mount on my MBP. In the sys profiler it says USB 2.0 Storage Device, so it does show up there. I have apple care but they haven't been able to help!

  • After updating to 10.4.6, external firewire drives wont mount consistantly

I have a swappable external hard drive casing that has two slots. Since updating to 10.4.6, the drives will randomly dissapear from the desktop, then will not remount. It takes a lot of swapping firewire cables around, usually ending up with the same configuration and multiple reboots to get them back. Even then, I can't depend on them to stay mounted. I have had this problem infrequently in the past, though not recently. This last update seems to have resurrected the ailment. Any guesses?
    Thanks mac people.

  • External Drives Wont mount

Having had my macbook pro for a few years, I decided it was time to get a new MacBook Air! Yay I thought - nice and light, plus loads of hours of working time on without having to be plugged in. I have transfered all of the data and files across from my old Macbook successfully (using the cable between the two macs) and away I go......However, this evening I realised that I needed to get some more information from a couple of my external hard drives (one Toshiba and the other a click free - both 1 TB and both working on my macbook Pro)........it keeps coming up with the same message:
    NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1
at /Volumes/LF C_FREE because the following problem occurred:
/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) link error; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).
the MacFUSE file system is not available (71)
I have just spent a small fortune on this nice new shiny machine......and have just spend about 4 hours trying to get it to work. I have searched for answers to my problems but without and solutions...please can someone help me. I am running up against deadlines and am now seriously rethinking my purchase......perhaps I should take it back?
I have tried both USB ports - neither can pick up any thing, in disk utilities, I can only see the drive for the clickfree external but am unable to repair it and the samsung drive doesnt show up at all!......when I plug them back in to my mac book pro everything works and all files are there.....
very very upset and desperate to try anything.
    OS X Version 10.8.5

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmyrmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
You may have to log out or reboot in order to complete an uninstallation.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • Bootcamp Partition Wont Mount, Boot and Is not Readable

thank you in advance to anyone who can be of support.
I have been running parallels desktop 6.0 on my macbook pro with no issues. I was using bootcamp as my virtual machine. I was also using bootcamp independently with absolutely no problems.
After upgrading to Lion, Parallels no longer worked and I used bootcamp exclusively. Finally i got fed up with having software that I paid for not work and tried to re-configure parallels to work. I erased all virtual machines and tried creating a new one from bootcamp. Parallels changed the name of my bootcamp partition to "disk0s4." Setup did not complete and now i have no parallels. Further, my bootcamp no longer works. I cannot even access the partition. It is greyed out on disk manager. I ran the recovery tool and tried repairing the partition and got the error: "disk utility cannot repair the disk.....reformat."
If anyone can tell me how to get this partition working again, it would be a miracle. However, at this point, my sole concern is somehow retrieving ONE folder that was saved on my desktop in windows that has some very very important documents that were not backed up last night. If someone can help me access those files through the mac side, I would be very appreciative.
I am running Parallels 6.0.12094. I have Mac OS X 10.7 on a MacBook Pro. Bootcamp was running 32-bit Windows 7.
I have posted this in the parallels forum as well.  I figured someone on this forum would be more likely to adivse me as to whether I can somehow access files stored on the greyed out partition.  thanks.
I have attached a screen shot of what disk utility states.  Note it says the drive is formatted FAT (ms-dos?)

Will it run? Yes. You are making some assumptions. There is a thread over on Lion forum and cloning OS back and forth is fine.
The recovery partition is optional .
OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
OS X Lion: "Some features of Mac OS X Lion are not supported for the disk (volume name)" appears during installation
    Partition Lion + Windows
    Look at coocooforcocoapuffs
Also, Paragon makes bootable clone drives for Windows (you just can't boot from it on a Mac without it being the internal drive). But that clone requires the entire drive, not just a partition. And not sure what you had in mind. Windows Easy Transfer is for data, not apps, not for Windows OS. But be that as it may.
Clone X 4 can do sector of an entire hard drive and all partitions. Or clone an HFS volume.

  • Internal drive wont mount via Sonnet ATA100 card

My Sonnet Tempo ATA100 pci card does not recognize my 200GB Seagate IDE hard drive in my G4 tower. The drive appears fine on desktop when connected to original mother ribbon. What can it be?

    Hello Web dude,
    Several thoughts....
Controller cards can be persnickety about what they see (or allow to be seen).
Do not rush out to buy another controller card. If you have access to another controller card (free), by all means try substituting it.
Sonnet controller cards are bashful, and are not always seen by your Mac even when they are working. This makes diagnosing problems more difficult. They should be seen by Disk Utility however, even if they are not seen by the Apple profiler.
A controller card sees its hard drive as a SCSI drive, and the hard drive needs to be formatted when connected to the controller card in order to install its SCSI drivers. (This is, of course, difficult when you can't find the drive in the first place.)
Try different configurations: jumper settings, as slave to another drive if you have one, different cable or different socket on the controller card, resetting the PRAM and/or the motherboard, mounting in a different Mac if you have one handy --- substituting with known-good parts is always a good idea.
    Check the PRAM battery.
    Reset the start-up disk.
Repairing disk permissions is never a bad idea.
Try booting to an installer disk, or a utility disk such as Disk Warrior.
As example: last week my spare Mac (DA) saw three drives, one master, two slaves, all on an ACARD 6280 controller card. Just now, as I fired it up to reply to your post, it refused to see the first slave drive. Anywhere... Solution was to remove the second drive from the system, boot, note that the Mac now saw the first slave drive, replace the second slave drive into the system, boot again. Voila! Back again! A genius! Go figure!
    Good luck... Jon

  • Drive wont mount

I have a new Seagate 1TB Backup Plus Slim external drive which a friend has formatted in exFAT. The drive contains several videos and movies.
The exFAT format was chosen so that the drive could be used in my Samsung TV via the USB port.
The problem is, although my iMac (running OS 10.6.8) knows the drive is connected and offers some info about it, the drive does not mount on the desktop. Thus I cannot open it and view its contents.
    How can I do this?
I have downloaded Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX, as well as Seagate Dashboard 3.0. Neither of these applications can fix the problem.
    Any ideas anyone?

The best advice I can offer as a first step is to check whether it is ACTUALLY mounted but not visible on the desktop (as the Mac offers some info).  Open a finder window and see if it is listed in the sidebar, in which case it IS mounted, but your mac is not set to show it on the desktop.  Select Finder > Preferences > General and make sure external discs is checked on the list.  If it isn't, click to check it and your drive should appear.
If external drive is checked to appear on desktop, but is not there, can you find it in Disk Utilities?  If so, and there is nothing on the drive, you could try formating it (as exFAT) on YOUR Mac.
    Post back with further update.

  • Firewire drives wont mount since I went from Tiger to Leopard

I copied my original tiger drive to an SAT internal drive using Carbon Copy. Wiped the internal drive and did a clean install of Leopard to this drive. All went well, except my firewire drives will not mount. If I restart from the Tiger drive firewire drives mount no problem so I do not think it is the ports.
I have a Glyph 3 GT key bay that holds 3 glyph drives plugged into the firewire port on the back that mounts fine. Any other firewire drive does not mount, either from the front, daisy chained to the glyph or remove glyph and connect strat into the rear port.
    Please help anyone.
    Thanks

First step would be to reset the PRAM/NVRAM as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

Hello, are the USB? Do other USB things work in those ports?
    Might try this...
reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.
