Bootcamp Driver Set-up won't start/work - compatibility issue?
I have a feeling this has to do with the hardware/software compatibility issue that keeps surfacing. I've gone through quite a few other threads but have yet to find something enough like this. Where as many are experiencing blue screens during set-up, I can't even get that far...
I have a typical Macbook (the 13', 2.16 GHz Intel dual core). I bought it a couple months before Leopard came out (*cursing under breath*). That means this computer is about a year old. Originally, I used the Bootcamp Beta and everything went without a hitch. Uninstalled all that so I could install Leopard which I did back in... June I think. Now I need Windows back for some Windows-specific programs but I can't install these Bootcamp drivers.
So. 1 year-old laptop with 10.4.9 installation discs. Copy of Leopard purchased in or around June. I pop in the Leopard Disc with Windows open and... NOTHING happens. AT all. Tries to boot up the disc but, after several tries, ejects it.
Pulling out those old (Tiger installation) discs won't help because they won't have any drivers on them.
Any advice?
P.S. Yes, it's Windows XP, SP2

Can File Manager see files on the Leopard disc? If so, double click setup.exe. Also see [this.|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1855?viewlocale=en_US].

Imac won't start up n issues in single user mode
Imac won't start up after long time 'frazing' of Firefox. Manual start up ended up in the grey screen forever'processing' icon.
Had a look at other solutions, unable to enter safe mode. Someone mentioned to try single user mode and it went through half way with error messages on the screen which has no command line available for me to key in any letter.
My Imac has been out of warranty coverage for a while, how do I know if it's hard ware problems before paying for service?
Any help would be appreciated!
AliceYes, I have backed up and deleted old files using target disk mode with an old macbook. It's just the larger files I didn't have enough space and disks for. I really appreciate your help on this as I've never had any mac issues before this so am not really sure what to look for.

Bootcamp with Win' 8 won't start after Yosemite
After installing bootcamp I had to upgrade my windows partition, it worked until I upgraded to Yosemite.
After upgrading and rebooting and clicking alt the windows option didn't even appear.
I tried a couple of tips in the communitie threads and managed to get windows to appear as an option on reboot however I get the message
"missing operating system".
Following Loner T's suggestions I get these results:

Thanks.1. I started off with 30 gb and then added around 10 so it's probably choice number 2
2. I did that for the first one, and I got this:
When you say familiar files you mean real files on my windows partition?
3. I pressed q to go back and search the other MS data entry but it got me here:
Do I have to restart the process now? -
Changed internal hard drive but it won't start up using it
Thought I had everything covered but i seem to have missed something whilst changing my hard drive.
Having installed the new hard drive i then erased it using the mac os extended (journeled?) button. I then dragged over my folders etc from my carbon copy cloned external hard drive. i then attempted to reboot but the apple symbol on the start up went crazy with a question mark and danger type sign.
So having done a bit of research i don't think my macbook pro can see the new hard drive as its start up disk. its not showing up in the system preferences startup disk section.
Does anyone see an error from what I've written? Should I carbon copy clone my old hard drive files to the new hard drive rather just drag them over?
cheersWell, i carbon cloned it back again from the external hard drive and now its working fine. i hope thats it but we'll see.
That is the correct procedure. -
Bootcamp with Windows 7 won't start with upgraded RAM
Hello!
I upgraded my RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb.
OS X works fine but bootcamp with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 wont start. The screen goes black and white cursor is blinking at the top left corner. I have waited several minutes but nothing happens.
When I remove the ram I just installed, Windows 7 will start normally. Are there any other options here? This is quite frustrating. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my Bootcamp, and upgraded my RAM from 4GB to 8GB (bought Crucial RAM, which should be completely compatible). When I try to boot Windows, I get the blinking cursor hung. This is the ONLY thread I have been able to find that relates directly to this issue. I started to re-install Windows from the bootable install disc, but that tells me it will re-install Windows, and save all the old data in a volume called "Windows.old" and that I can access this data but "will not be able to use my old version of Windows." Maybe that's OK. Since I use my Windows partition exclusively for gaming and 3D sculpture work, I am pretty sure I can just pull all the appropriate data and re-install it in the new version of Windows. But I am leery of going through all this after reading the tale of woe told here that says that even re-installing with 8 GB RAM fresh does not work. Does anyone know of any other resources or options here? I can't even get to "Safe" mode - just a black screen and the blinking cursor.....arrrrgh! Any help greatly appreciated!

Macbook Pro hard drive beeping and won't start up
Hi
Last night my 13" mac book pro started beeping. I turned it off and restarted it, the beeping continued on restart and only showed a blank grey screen.
I took the cover off and realised the beeping is coming from the hard drive. It doesn't seem to be a RAM issue, I reset the PRAM and took out and replaced the RAM and it still continued.
Any idea what it could be?
ThanksBoot OS X Recovery, or your original System Install DVD if your Mac shipped with one, and run Disk Utility.
Most likely your hard disk drive has failed. It may or may not be repairable enough to recover its data, but it almost certainly needs to be replaced. -
Bootcamp partition exists, but won't start
I needed a Win exclusive program, and when I went to fire Win7 up by pressing "alt/option" during startup, Bootcamp was missing. When OS X starts, the Partition is on my desktop. I also tried using BootChamp to force into Win7, but when the computer tries to start it, I get a black screen with "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
Bootcamp appears in Disk Utility, and the Startup Disk Pane in System Preferences, but can't get it to load Windows with the same "No bootable device" message.
Any ideas?mixtronic wrote:
I own and installed the copy of Windows 7 previously, and have booted into Windows many times prior to this problem.
Well it seems that is not what is happening now. Somehow your Win7 install got corrupted or damaged or removed.
The only thing you can do is reinstall Win 7.
Or you could try a Repair install by booting to the Win 7 install DVD and Run Startup Repair (I've heard you have to run it 3 times but not sure as I've never had to do it myself). -
RAID drives down-contoller won't start up
Running FCP5 on a G5 (dual 2, OS 10.4.7), XServe RAID with 14X250G drives, running RAID 5. Here's the situation: I had drive 11 start to flake out on me yesterday. After rebooting the XServe, the RAID came up and automatically started to rebuild the array. Left it overnight and came back the next mowning to find everything seemed to say it was OK.
After about an hour, this same drive red lighted. I've had one other drive fail before, so I popped it out to keep running (since running RAID 5). Then, as I'm editing for the next hour or two everything seemed fine. Then drive 8 began to act a little strange.... during playback of a timeline, FCP would freeze playback and the drive 8 blue light would come on solid, almost like it couldn't keep up with the throughput.
After another episode of that, suddenly, the drive seemd to red light briefly. I lost connection with that array and all the video connection disappeared from the timeline (media missing). I rebooted everything, now the array in question was not accessible from the RAID admin. I could see the drives, they said they were green, but no array existed on that side. Array 1 was all still there, but the "video" drive would not mount. I then tried various combinations of rebooting and then firmware updates. Nothing made any changes until this morning when re-attempting, suddenly the RAID controller for that same array will now not start. In the admin it shows a warning in the component view.
Really trying to figure out the next step here since I'm dead in the water.... Any ideas on trouble shooting? How to at least get the controller back up? Could it be bad and have caused the drives to have problems?
David
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1G RAM, 2Ghz Core DuoHi David,
So you removed drive 11 and then replaced it with the same drive, and then rebuilt?
Also, if in fact the drive did fail, and you removed it and continued to edit with the drive missing, and in fact had a failure on drive 8, then it's "game over." 2 failures on one array loses the array with RAID 5. I can't say this is what happened -- but if it's the case it's trouble. You also didn't say what firmware version you were running at the time of the failure (that's important -- more than the version you upgraded to post update). The 1.5 firmware has an option to "recognize array" which can get arrays back in some very specific circumstances, but you have to be running 1.5 when the issue occurs... not update to it after the fact.
The thing is, both RAID controllers should be able to see and manage both sides of the array. When you connect to the upper controller, what do you see in the event log?
This might be a good time to call AppleCare. -
Anyone has a clue why this happens or how to fix it? Is it just that Spectrasonics hasn't released a software update for Mavericks yet or could it be something else?
Jazzilla,
Check the AU manager to make sure it correctly validated. If not then select it and manually rescan and re validate...
Otherwise,
Please contact Spectrasonics as, if you read my posts earlier in this thread.. Trillian works fine with Mavericks and LPX here..

Driver Recovery DVD won't start
I am trying to reinstall a view drivers using my Application and Driver Recovery DVD but after inserting nothing occurs. I tried running it from inside of the My Computer directory but the option doesn't appear. Is there a way to manually run the DVD so that I can reinstall my drivers?
Whew, do you have another Mac or even PC to try? Maybe make a copy of it?

PowerBook won't start, possible font issue?
I was having a problem with the fonts on my PowerBook. Several fonts in my web browser were showing as gibberish. I figured out that a sub set of my times font was loading (I think it was times symbol or something like that). So I deleted my times in fontbook and left it in the trash can. The correct font loaded in my browser and all was well. Until I shut it down for a few hours. When I restarted it, it loaded up to the user login. After I entered my password, it loaded my wallpaper and just the Spotlight corner of the top tool bar. Then it just sat there. It won't finish loading. I suspect that by moving the times system font (or even part of it) into the trash, the system won't load.
I recently got a LaCie firewire external HD. I installed the SilverKeeper back-up software and ran it so everything from my PowerBook is now sitting on my ExtHD. However, I can't start the PowerBook up and I don't know how to restore from the ExtHD.
I've tried booting up from the install DVD, but it only gives me the option to reinstall or run the Disk Utility.
What I want is to boot from a CD or DVD that will let me access the PowerBook's HD and put the fonts back in the system folder. Or run a restore from the ExtHD.
I know I have an option to reinstall the software from the install DVD, but it's 10.4.0 or 1 and I have 10.4.7 on the PowerBook. Will that screw with any of my settings if I restore back to the early version and then update to 10.4.7?
And is my font theory even right? It's just the last thing I remember doing that might have caused this.
One more resource at my disposal is my Mac Mini that I'm on right now. Can I force the PowerBook to load in firewire disk mode just as a disk and not as a networked system?
Thanks in advance,
JakeGreg, thanks for your suggestions. I did try to boot up in safe mode, but it froze on the system loading screen and never made it to login. Restarting after that just brought it back to the original problem.
I was using FontBook to locate and delete the Times symbols sub-font.
Is there a way to make a CD or DVD on my MacMini that I can use as a start up disk on the PowerBook and access the hard drive? The system installer DVD won't let me touch the HD when I boot from it. -
PS5 won't start Scratch Disk Issues
I would really appreciate some help - I'm working to a deadline and got it into my head that I could speed things up if I reallocated my scratch disk to a bigger HDD (I have a Mac Pro with 4). So in a brain-fade moment I assigned the 3 non system disks in priority order BUT deactivated the Scratch Disk on the System drive. Photoshop will not now restart and gave the following error messages: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available". followed by "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available". I went back 24 hours in Time Machine expecting that to fix things but, alas, no change. How can I reassign the scratch disks with the program off?
Yes, because I managed to fix the problem with Mac Command+Option+Shift .... DOH!
Thank you all very much. -
SSD won't mount - SATA compatibility issue
I have iMac 1.9 Ghz G5 (iSight) and I want to change my hard drive with SSD.
I was kind of in a hurry, so I did not read enough I bought a Adata 2.5"SATA 6Gb/s SSD.
After installing it in to my iMac it won't mount. (I'm booting the Apple Mac OS X Install DVD from external hard disk (CD/DVD not working). I know I have to format the SSD before installing the OS, but if I can not do this in Diskutility because it is not visible)
My questions are:
Is it possible that this SSD is not compatible with my computer?
There is no information for this particular model if it is compatible with the SATA 1.5 Gb/s port on the iMac G5.
If it actually is incompatible...
What kind of SSD (brand/model/SATA/speed) is the best to use in this upgrade situation?
I'd rather not have to buy a new high performance SSD and just not get the full benefit from it, so I'm looking for an ssd that's both faster than a mechanical drive, but also that isn't all that expensive.Try checking at http://macsales.com
You can phone them or echat, they are very knowledgeable and will point you in the right direction. -
Satellite Pro 460 won't start with new hard drive in
I recently got a Satellite Pro 460 but it had no hard drive in.
It starts great with no drive in but as soon as I put a brand new hard drive in it won't start.
I thought that it might be to new a hard drive so I took my old working drive out my old Toshiba Satellite and still it won't start.
Any one got any ideas why this is and what can i do about itIt sounds like 80GB is too large for that model, I really doubt the BIOS and Chipset can support more than 8GB HDD. 8GB may not even work.
Here is some information regarding different HDD modes and limitations: http://www.adminxp.com/hardware/index.php?aid=129
504MB - limitation where the system is limited by the compatibility with the values of the BIOS system and the ATA interface by help of using the CHS mode. This limitation is valid for older computers 286/386/486. (1024 cyl 16 heads x 63sectors/track x 512 = 528,482,304bytes - 504 MB). In many cases special programs will help (Disk Ontrack Manager - Seagate, Disk Wizard - WD). Some operating systems can have problems with this software support and can have higher requirements on your knowledge of the OS and used programs.
2GB - Limitation of the maximal value of the FAT16 file system partition for DOS and Windows 9x. Some older computers cannot address more than 4095 cylinders (4,095 x 16 x 63x 512 - 2,113,413,120 bytes)
4GB Limitation of Windows NT - Partition with the FAT16 system cannot be higher than 4GB - Fdisk cannot be used for creating, but the Disk manager is used (Disk management in Windows 2000)
8GB - Limitation of the BIOS system. For the support of larger capacities you need extended functions of the BIOS system. Limitations valid for the x86 computers and some motherboards with Pentium and Pentium II processors. Some other operating systems must know how to use the extended BIOS functions (Extended Interrupt 13).
