Bootcamp failure has stopped my Mac Mini from booting anything

I tried to bootcamp windows 7 on to my new 2012 mac mini earlier today using a 16GB usb stick.
It formatted the usb drive, turned it into a bootable disk and put the windows 7 ISO onto it.
Everything was going fine until I got to the windows 7 installation screen.
I chose the language and country, clicked "Install Now" and it took me to a screen saying it cannot find the right drivers for the usb device, and told me to find the drivers before continuing. It also said that if my installation media was the usb device, I could unplug if I wanted to (paraphrasing).
There was a dialog that I clicked which opened up a file browser, and showed me the storage connected to the computer at the time, which included a bootcamp (:C) partition, my external HDD which was plugged in at the time, my installation usb stick, and a BOOT (:X) partition (at least I think it was called "BOOT").
It just let me browse the C drive and my external HDD, but the other two were not expandable.
I didn't know what else to do so I cancelled the installation and rebooted the mac mini.
Now I'm at a black screen which shows up after the Grey loading screen, saying "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key".
Now from what I can tell, my usb ports are NOT working at all. I was using a logitech mouse and keyboard which I had from before I bought the mac, and it was working fine before the bootcamp. It doesn't seem to be detecting any other USB storage media either.
So now no usb is recognized by the computer and I'm stuck at this black screen, unable to do anything.
My roomate has a macbook pro and a bluetooth apple keyboard, and he's successfully boot camped windows 7 onto his macbook. According to him, the Mac will try to load up windows first and let you choose which OS to use after that.
If anyone knows a way to connect the bluetooth apple keyboard to the mac mini while its trying to load up a windows installation, that would be great as I could probably hit the option key at the Grey loading screen to figure out what the problem is. Or any other advice really.
Also, could you let me know if a bootcamp usb from a macbook pro will be compatible with a mac mini, as I could probably try that. Though if the USB ports aren't being detected, which seems to be the case, I have backed myself into a corner and cannot get out easily.
I'm posting this from my windows laptop, if theres any workaround to this problem using windows, that would be great

I am on my way to a possible cure. I located in the attic the original (still in their sealed box) Official Mac Mini Install Disks after calling Apple SuUpport. (I had been trying to resurrect using an OSX Tiger Black box install dvd set). The machine just would not boot from that black Tiger OSX DVD...However:
The mac support rep (Dan - great job) had me use that original disk, and said: hold the C key - from the chime all the way until a dialog box came up to do an archive and install. It took a good 4 or 5 minutes of holding.
But - the end result was that I am now doing a complete archive and install, so I get to keep everything (many gigs of music) and reinstall third party stuff. Suitable punishment I suppose for being a Mac snob and not backing up for eons compared to backing my PC up with an automated process weekly.
For others: Dan said that the install must have encountered a glitch and was left in an incomplete state with some critical bit of software malformed. He could not explain that it would not boot to open firmware, or what the glitch might have been.
I will post again once i have a working system and once again attempt to get current in version and security updates...after a complete backup to a nice new external drive
Oh well, live and learn.

I want to install XP Pro SP2 on a Mac Mini from a 2003 RIS server. Is this possiIble? How is it done?
The mac has 10.5 which has bootcamp to enable Windows install. I have created a partition but the bootcamp utility asks for a CD. I want to install a RIS build. The Mac has a option for network boot but this seems to only work with Mac Server. I assume the network adapter is not PXE compatible and so a boot disk of some kind will be needed to kick this off?.

  • 10.6.7 - High wifi latency on Mac Mini (from mid 2007)

    Hi!
I have a MacBook Pro from mid 2009. It is upgraded to 10.6.7 and works with absolutely no problems. However I also have a Mac Mini from mid 2007 and since upgrading to 10.6.7 the wifi latency has been extremely high--averaging 5 seconds or more if I run a ping command on the IP address of my network gateway.
Last night I restored the system to its original OS X version (10.5) and the wifi worked great. Then I upgraded with my original Snow Leopard disc (10.6) and the wifi still worked great. Finally, I updated via the Software Updater to 10.6.7. The wifi instantly took on the high latency again. If I switch to my Windows installation via Bootcamp, the wifi works splendidly. The problem is definitely with 10.6.7. It is not with my Mac Mini hardware or with my router.
Some things I tried to resolve the problem (none of them worked):
I tried creating a new "Location" and reconnecting with that.
    I tried zapping my PRAM
No need to delete my preferences files because I just did a complete OS restore
I have not changed my routers security settings because that is not an acceptable solution (some people suggest disabled WEP or WPA--I'm running WPA2).
Any help that you could provide would be great. I've never had a problem with Apple hardware or software before this, so this experience is disappointing.

    Thanks for your response.
My router is a Linksys WRT160N.
I'm a little doubtful that it's just a matter of 10.6.7 and my router, since my MBP is currently running 10.6.7 and doing just fine. I'm fairly certain that the fault is primarily with 10.6.7 itself.

  • I bought this Mac mini from my company, and cannot set up my admin account. What can I do?

I bought a Mac mini from my company as they were closing our office and leaving all of us in a state of unemployment. Now I'm trying to setup the admin user account for my Girlfriend's son, for whom I purchased the unit. As he is new to mac, I'm trying to set it up for him. However when I go to the account panel in system preferences, I am unable to change anything without entering an admin password. Nor can I find a setup assistant to treat it as a new mac. What are my options from here? The Mac mini 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X Version 10.6.8

If the company did not supply you with that Mac's original System Install DVD, you really ought to purchase a Snow Leopard DVD from Apple since you are likely to need it in the future.
Please read everything that follows before continuing. If you have only the one computer you should print this for reference.
Power on or restart your Mac.
At the chime or grey screen, hold ⌘ and S on your keyboard to enter single-user mode.
At the localhost:/ root# prompt, type
    fsck -fy
    and press Return.
This is a simple check for file system integrity and is optional. It may take a few minutes to complete. Be patient. If you get concerned that it has stalled press the Return key. When the integrity check completes pressing the Return key will result in the localhost prompt again.
At the localhost:/ root# prompt, type each of the following lines, exactly as written, one line at a time, each line followed by the Return key. There is a single space preceding the first "slash" ( / ) character in each line:
    mount -uw /
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    reboot
The Mac will restart, and then take you through the entire setup and registration process that a new Mac presents to a new user. Any pre-existing user accounts are still available, but without their passwords they will not be useful to you.
Do not elect to transfer your information from another Mac. When you get to the "Do You Already Own a Mac" screen, select "Do not transfer my information" and press Continue. Have your existing Apple ID and password ready - do not create a new one unless that's what you really want to do.
When it completes, log in under that new account. Use System Preferences > Accounts (or Users & Groups) to delete the User accounts that you no longer need.

  • Bought you Mac Mini from Amazon? Did it come with Snow Leopard installed?

I want to buy a Mac Mini from Amazon simply because it's cheaper and there's no tax, the question is, does it come with Snow Leopard like the one from Apple does?
I am not being a cheap @ss here, i lost my job and trying to save every penny i can.
    Totals:
    Amazon: $577.95
    Apple w/student discount: $599.78
The 9.75% tax is killing us here in CA

Even if it does not come with Snow Leopard installed, or the upgrade drop in disk, you should still be able to get it for S&H from Apple thru the Up-to-Date program.
... If you’ve purchased a qualifying computer or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard for $9.95.*
This program ends December 26, 2009. Your completed order form must be postmarked or faxed within 90 days of the date of your purchase of a qualifying computer or Xserve (described in this offer) or by December 26, 2009, whichever is earlier.
Also, you may want to look into Apple's refurbished Mac minis. They are usually a Mac that was DOA when shipped to a customer new and has been repaired by Apple. They are technically brand new and carry the same warranty. Occasionally they have surprises, like upgraded RAM.

You really need a newer Mac Mini with a true HDMI output, because that Mac Mini's DVI output does not support Audio.
You might try a 3.5mm to RCA adapter
from the Mac Mini's headphone jack to the TV's audio input,
but that would require being able to select the Audio input in the TVs menu while using it's HDMI input.
Optionally you could also use an external 2.1 Speaker System or patch the audio from the Mac Mini to your home stereo system to enhance that older Mac Mini's audio.

As I said you need to:
You need to wipe the hard disk and reinstall the OS by booting into the recovery partition and reinstall the original OS via the internet. It will ask you to enter your ID

  • How to buy mac mini from USA

HI, there, I want to buy a Mac mini from USA but I'm in New Zealand. The price here is so crazy!!! Is it possible to order one from apple store in USA and ask them to post it? How to do that? Cheers

There are some things to know about buying things in the US. The prices do not include sales taxes. There is no standard federal sales tax, it differs from state to state and large city to large city and can be between 6 to 10+%.
If you buy from Apple you will always pay sales tax. If you find an online 3rd party Apple reseller, you may pay as much as US$20 to 30 less for the product, but many also do not charge sales tax and if you buy enough, offer free shipping within the US. I have friends in Dallas, so I buy things in the US there. For example, if I had purchased my Mac mini from an Apple Store in Dallas it would have been US$499 plus US$41.00 sales tax (8.25%). (It would have been the same cost from Apple Online, but sometimes they charge for shipping, sometimes they do not.) However, I ordered it from Other World Computing for US$479.00 with no sales tax and free shipping to Dallas. So I saved US$61.00.
However, as mentioned, shipping to NZ and paying customs' duty fees may not save you anything over buying it there.
