Bootcamp Failure...Help!

When I tried to install windows via bootcamp, I got a black screen with a message 'No bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key' , even after inserting the windows disc. Anyone know how to resolve this?
Also, I cannot restart into Mac OS now even after trying to boot from Snow leopard install disc and pressing the option key. After pressing the option key, all i get is a lock as if it was requesting for some password that I do not seem to know.
PLEASE HELP !!

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use BootCamp. There's a BootCamp Support Community where everybody uses BootCamp. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

I ran bootcamp and tried to install Windows 7.  I end up with a DOS screen and an unresponsive keyboard.
I have been on line with Apple and microsoft and they can't help.  I have lated versions of Lion and bootcamp. HELP!
My Lion is up to date.
I used the 64-bit windows disc.
    Should I try parallels?

Do you have a DOS screen with a command prompt or just a blank screen?
Is your Windows 7 x64 an original MS Full Version Installation DVD?
Did Windows 7 Install Disc start?
If it did you would have had to choose the location of where to install Windows 7.
Did you select the Partition named BOOTCAMP that corresponded to the Partition Size you created in BootCamp?
Were you asked to format the Partition?
Did you format the partition to NTFS and then get an option to click NEXT and actually start the Windows 7 installation?
Do you have a wired USB keyboard and wired USB mouse?
If you actual went through the installation and restarted then here are some things to try:
First try doing a CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and see if a Windows Option Screen appears.
If you get the Screen you will have some options displayed.
You want to highlight and click TASK MANAGER which should be the bottom choice I beleive.
If Task Manager runs you will get a window showing all the processes running.
See if you can find EXPLORER.
If EXPLORER is running highlight it and go to the bottom right and click the END TASK button.
Now go to the Top Left Menu Bar.
    Click FILE
In the sub menu that opens select RUN  or RUN NEW TASK (Not sure which it is in Windoes 7 as I am running Windows 8)
Once RUN is selected a new window will open to CREATE NEW TASK
Type in EXPLORER and then the OK button.
If Windows 7 installed properly the Desktop should appear after a bit of time.
Your first concern is to get your keyboard running so you may have to remove and reinstall Windows using Boot Camp on the Mac Side.
Let us know how it goes..

  • MacbookPro 5,4 - Failure(s) installing Win7 x64 using Bootcamp (aka help!)

I'm running a Macbook Pro 5,4 and am having a hard time figuring out why Win7 x64 keeps failing during the install process. I'll start with the failures, then add what I've attempted to fix the problem.
Following the Bootcamp guide exactly, I get through the initial copying, expanding and updating process just fine. The system reboots but never makes it into windows. Instead I get the, "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." Sometimes it lists a driver (the list is long and seemingly random). Sometimes it lists the kernel (ntoskrnl.exe).
    My attempts at a solution:
    1. The recommendation from MS is to boot to the install disk and run a start-up repair. When I do this, it returns the message, "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically". Dead End.
    2. Because it looks like a possible corruption issue I first tried the cheap route of installing from another disk - in fact I've borrowed two other Win7 Pro x64 disks (all 3 disks I've used are legitimate) and have had the same problem, so I'm ruling out the media.
    3. The system is less than two months old but it could still be the HDD so I ran a check in OS X and it finds no problems. I've replaced the drive twice and the problems with installation remain consistent.
I've run a check on the memory as well - again, no problems detected.
So far I've completed 9 attempts, with fresh partitioning and formatting and have yet to successfully install Windows 7 on this system. In contrast, it was a simple process to install the 32 bit version on my wifes MacBook Air. Am I missing something obvious?

Found a workaround, to sum it up, it's pretty much my dead internal superdrive (as for unbootable USB, that's still a mistery). What I did was moving the HDD to my 2012 MBP and install from there. The problem is now that since I installed it on another machine (with ofc all different hardwares) I got blue screen whenever I tried to start Windows7 (in 2007 MBP after moving the HDD back there).
Next step will be replacing the superdrive on 2007 MBP with 2012's. Or if someone got a suggestion like installing the drivers via target disk mode etc, please advice

I cannot boot from any other disk or into any other mode or even eject the windows install disk as i have not connection via keyboard or mouse with my standard set that came with the iMac. I have no idea what to do and i am honestly freaking out a lot!!!! I have a very expensive lump of aluminum on my desk right now that does not work, PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I had to remove one of my memory modules (I have an iMac with two 2 gig memory sticks) to get windows to install. Stupid, but true.

  • 9iFS R2 on Windows 2000 repeated install failure - help !!

    Hi All,
here is a desperate plea for help with 9iFS R2 on Windows 2000, service pack 2, the story so far ....
    1) clean install of windows 2000 with service pack 2, network configured and working.
    2) install Oracle 9i R2 database and configure tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora as per the oracle by example documents for R2
    3) reboot machine and all service come up fine
    4) install Oracle 9i R2 Application Service with option A to just install web server and cache stuff. This is installed in its own oracle home, all seems fine, reboot the machine.
    5) all the services come up fine ( so far so good eh !! )
    6) follow the pre-installation for 9iFS R2 ( as per the solaris install notes as i can't find any windows specific ones ). This includes the creation of a tnsnames.ora file in 9iashome\9ifs\network\admin, checking of the configuration required for 9iFS, all seems fine. Reboot the machine and all services come up fine.
    7) start the 9iFS install, this is installed into the 9ias home as per the instruction. Install proceeds, enter config information, various connection tests are performed ok, and then we get to the 'configuring oracle 9iFS' screen which has a whole load of tasks which the installer then works its way through. When it gets to the 'executing setup scripts' option ( second from bottom ) it immediately throws a java exception, about 'file access denied', 'unable to create ifs directory' with no error code or anything else. The configuration screen then exits, and says installation complete successfully ! As you can imagine it hasnt, and nothing is configured. I have repeated this 4 full times now, reading the oracle install docs very carefully. Same thing every time. However, and this is the strange part. If at that point, I uninsall 9iFS using the oracle installer, and then try and reinstall 9iFS again, when it gets to the section of where to create the schema, and i tell it the same IFSSYS as the one created previously, it will then warn me its going to delete it and create a new one with the same name. I select 'yes' create it again and this time the install completes with no errors ! Hurray you think, ahhhh BUT....
    8) reboot the machine, start up the browser to point at the local machine port 1810, and log in successfully. Then select the node on port 15x41 ( sorry cant quite remember port number ) as per the post installation docs, and told to 'launch it'. This i do, providing the administration account user name and password which has been used to install everything so far. Explorer sits for about 60 seconds then returns to the screen with the portal node still down. I have tried starting the node and domain to no avail, both fail to start with no reason for the failure and nothing in the 9iFS\logs to explain whats failing - sigh.
    OK the questions
    1) why do i initially get this file access denied problem so failing the install - is this a known windows problem ?
    2) When i do get the install to complete by reinstall 9iFS and rebuilding the schema can I not then start the node or domain ?
In effect I am installing all these on a single machine with 1 Gig of memory for evaluation and prototyping as a possible Document Management System which we can build custom solutions upon. With being unable to install it at all we are at a total loss. Can some one save my sanity and remaining hair and offer some help/suggestions as to why this is not working ?
    best regards
    Tom

    Thomas,
thanks for your hints, it helped me quite well getting iFS installed on my machine! But when I try to start iFS from the administration GUI I do have excactly the same problem like you:
start up the browser to point at the local machine port 1810,
and log in successfully. Then select the node on port 15x41
as per the post installation docs, and told to 'launch it'.
This i do, providing the administration account user name and
password which has been used to install everything so far.
Explorer sits for about 60 seconds then returns to the screen
with the portal node still down. I have tried starting the
node and domain to no avail, both fail to start with no reason
for the failure and nothing in the 9iFS\logs to explain whats
failing - sigh.At first my thought was iAS might have problems with special characters in the admin's name or password (due to security guidelines we had to change the admin's name). But also with alphanumeric name and password it doesn't work.
Furthermore, also starting iFS using the BATch files doesn't work always. The services seem to start up correctly, but I'm not able to connect via share, FTP, HTTP or anything.
It got worse when I accidently called "ifsundeployear.bat": after that I no longer was able to redeploy the iFS's EAR, I only get error messages complaining inconsistency between local config files and the repository. Logfiles didn't help at all. So at the moment I'm reinstalling everything once more, sigh.
Did ANYONE get iFS started the way it's supposed to be under Windows 2000?

  • Windows 7 Extremely Slow in Bootcamp. Help!?

    Hi all
So i recently installed a 64 bit windows 7 partition on to my late 2011 13" macbook pro. The problems. WELL! i reinstalled the OS multiple times as each time, booting and opening applciations was SUPER sluggish and took minutes to open anything. it was fine when i first installed windows, however after playing a game on steam, it has seemed to slow down. a lot. is this a hardwar problem that can be solved? Bootcamp is just really slow to boot!
    Specs:
    -i7 2.8ghz processor
    -4gb ram
-some decent graphics card (i dunno?)
    Thanks guys!

  • Experiencing strange performance issues after a hard drive failure - Help!

I bought my mid-2012 i5 Macbook Pro in December of 2012. I realized when shopping for computers that I wanted an SSD installed, but that it would be a lot cheaper if I bought the SSD and installed it rather than customizing it in the Apple Store. So I bought a nice Samsung 128GB SSD (820 or 840 - can't remember which) and did the installation. I went ahead and installed two 4GB sticks of RAM while I was at it. Everything was just dandy: my boot time was just under 9 seconds, and all of my data-heavy apps booted in no-time at all. Then all **** broke loose.
About two weeks ago, I opened my computer and I got the dreaded "? File Folder" notification with a gray screen. I immediately thought hard drive failure. No matter how many times I tried to boot, the computer just would not talk to the SSD anymore. I used Internet Recovery to get into my Disk Utility, and the entire partition was gone. I assumed the worst but wanted to be sure - I bought a hard drive enclosure and hooked the SSD up to an older Macbook, and lo and behold: it worked perfectly. I was not only able to recover data, but I could write data to the drive. Nothing appeared wrong with the drive when I plugged it into the old Macbook, but my newer Macbook still would not recognize it. Even my fiance's Windows 7 PC recognized the drive as "?" (since it was formatted for Mac, but hey - it recognized that it existed!).
I decided to re-install the original HDD that came with the 2012 Macbook Pro (the one I removed in favor of the SSD). I was able to re-install the OS and I can boot up at will, but everything is different. The performance issues are extremely noticeable. I can't have more than two programs running at one time without the spinning wheel of death appearing. My boot time went from 9 seconds to 2 minutes. I know that SSDs increase performance, so there is some slight performance downgrade to be expected since I am using a mechanical drive now -- but these are not normal issues. Sometimes I can't even type a web address into Safari without the wheel appearing. iTunes, and specifically the App Store, take minutes to open - and I have no media is on iTunes.
Here's the thing: I have tried just about anything to fix this problem that Google can pull up. I've verified the HDD, I've booted into Safe Mode, reset RAM and cache, run benchmarks and other performance tests, entered all sorts of weird language into Command Prompt, and studied Activity Monitor - I can't find a single red flag that would indicate anything being wrong. It appears to be a perfectly functioning, updated computer.
I'm thinking a piece of hardware failed that triggered the error with the SSD. I'm not really sure though since all of my performance tests indicate perfectly functioning hardware. I'm a little afraid to take it to the Apple store because I know they'll tell me it's my fault for opening the computer and replacing the hard drive in the first place.
Any ideas? At this point anything to salvage this computer would be helpful.

    Spin Cycle,
were those other computers which were able to recognize your SSD in its external enclosure also Macs? Do you know if your SSD has its most recent firmware revision installed? (If it doesn’t, its installer can be downloaded from the Samsung SSD firmware page for burning onto a bootable DVD.) I haven’t used the 830 myself, so I don’t know what its reputation is with Macs. I have an 840 PRO in my MacBook Pro, which has been trouble-free for me, but my understanding is that the 840 EVO has had trouble with Macs in its earlier firmware revisions — so I’m wondering if the 830 has a known track record with Macs, good or bad.

  • Mac mini boot failure - help

mine is a 1.5g core solo mini with 512 mb ram, last night i had a power failure after which the mini wouldn't boot, i hear the start up chime, it goes to the grey screen and stays there for a while and retarts again.... and its a non stop loop, safe boot wouldn't work, so does the reset of pvram, disk repair through tiger dvd, single user mode.... nothing happens, help me out

When you boot from the Tiger disc and repair the hard drive using DiskUtility, does DiskUtility report success, or does it finish with an error message?

  • Bootcamp install help

I'm trying to install Windows XP in Bootcamp, but I'm having a problem.
My windows disc seems to be damaged because it continues to hang up at 59% on the install and never moving forward.
Since I don't own another legal disc of Windows XP, I would like to clone another PC that I have a legal copy of XP on but again, don't have the physical disc.
I was wondering if there was a way to clone that PC into Bootcamp by way of WinClone or any other options????
    Thanks for your help!

Try this: Get (borrow if necessary) a proper Mac keyboard (wired might be best) and hold down the eject key as you boot the mini. That should get the disc out. Repair permissions, verify the disc and proceed with a mouse and keyboard that haven't had problems in the past.
Lastly, take Microsoft keyboard and mouse in hand, proceed to trash can....

  • Macbook crashed, only bootcamp available, help!!!

    Hi guys!
So my macbook pro 15 inch Mid 2012 crashed a few hours ago.
I restarted my mac and when the screen came on it was like it was updating something.
At around 80% my macbook suddenly went off.. I tried disk repair, but It could not help it either..
So I picked up a Sata to USB converter and connected it to another mac. It only sees the bootcamp partition and not the mac
partition, and this is the part I've been working for the past months.
Can someone help me please? I've got all my Logic files on it, and I really can't afford to loose them, I would have been throwing months of hard
    work away
    Thanks in advance guys!

  • Problems restoring partition after bootcamp failure

    Hi!
I'm using a new MacBook Pro (Retina, 15") with OS X 10.10.2 where I tried to install Windows 8.1 with the help of the Bootcamp-assistant. Everything went well to set up the partitions and I decided to set aside 50 GB for my Windows partition. But the Windows 8.1 installer for some reason refused to install on this partition so without thinking too much (big mistake) I tried formatting it from within the installer which didn't work and lead to boot problems when I restarted. Without knowing so much about these things I understand that the Windows partition manager where writing in places on the disk that wasn't so good for the OS X system? Anyway, I have managed to get back to booting normally and within the Disk Utility in OS X I deleted all the different small partitions (that I could see) and the 50 GB Windows partition so that there is now just the main OS X partition showing and 50 GB of unused, unpartitioned space.
An this is where I'm stuck. Everything works fine except I now have a 50 GB smaller disk... I wan't to restore everything back to having just one big OS X partition but I can't use the Bootcamp-assistant since it does not recognize the disk as being managed by it and from inside Disk Utility I can't resize the OS X partition back to normal. I can't pull the slider to increase its size, I can't manually type in the partitions size since those numbers are greyed out and I can't create a new 50 GB partition of any kind since when I try to proceed nothing happens. I have even attempted to format the whole drive and restore my time machine backup from recovery mode but I can't figure out how to do that. I seem to be able to format the, now smaller, OS X-partition but doesn't that just create a new partition with the same size? How do I erase everything and create a completely new partition with the maximum size? Oh, and I also tried removing the OS X-partiton by pressing the minus button at the bottom but that button is greyed out as well. Even in recovery mode...
I have included two screen dumps. Sorry for them being in Swedish... Hopefully they can be of help anyway.
Thank you in advance for any help!!

This problem is being discussed in Is there a way I can get the "Free Space" back without completely restoring my hard drive?

    Hello shano:
I did not make that post to engage in a discussion with you. I have no way of knowing that whatever you did fixed your issue. If you had followed my original suggestion, you would have gotten to the same place. I posted my comments so others that might read this post would not suddenly start deleting cookie files without trying less intrusive approaches first.
By the way, clearing the cache is a standard troubleshooting step in solving crash problems (you failed to point out you did that as well).

  • No bootable device, trying to bootcamp. HELP!

I want to install bootcamp on my Macbook Pro. It's a late 2011 13 inch. I have mountain lion. I followed instructions to make the option for making a version install disk on a usb stick from an iso image of windows 7. Well, the bootcamp process seemed to be working fine until it got to the point where it automatically restarted to install windows and a black screen with white text came up that said "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key" although my usb with the boot disk was in my computer and it wouldn't let me press any key.
Also, Important. I know how to use the option key and get back to my OSX hard drive. That is not the issue. the issue is that I can't seem to make my usb bootable. Or something like that. I'm not the most tech savvy person ever, fyi.
When I go into disk utility and go to info on my usb which I made into a windows partition thing using boot camp, it says Bootable: No. I'm assuming it needs to be YES in order to boot from it... how do I make it bootable? Shouldn't it have done that in boot camp assistant?
I hope that made sense. I have tried with multiple usbs. Nothing seems to work. I tried pvram reset, someone suggested that. Didn't work. repaired disks, etc.
Please help, I am at a loss and very frustrated!

I followed instructions to make it so that it would work, at least it worked with other people who had an internal dvd drive.
I guess I'll try to burn the iso onto a dvd, I didn't know that would work. Not sure how to do it though..
