Bootcamp Firewire Drivers

Hi All,
I've recently installed a new HDD and snow leopard on my macbook pro. I'd been using bootcamp previously with no problems, however now when i run bootcamp setup [ xp sp3 installed ], it does not seem to install firewire drivers - theres a ? over the firewire controller in device manager and 2 usb devices are listed as unknown. Has anyone come across this before? have done a bit of searching but haven't found anything so far...

I don't understand what this means. Have you tried inserting your Snow install DVD after starting up to Windows so that all provided drivers are installed?

After doing what I mentioned above, if no joy, then, use the ?-marked item(s) (right click, double click, or whatever) to search for a newer/better driver for the device or to reinstall its present driver.

  • How to turn off Firewire drivers -- to make Quark 7.5 work

I'm trying to get Quark 7.5 working on a new iMac with snow Leopard. It works on some new Macs (I have it working on an MacPro), but can't get it to launch on a new 27-in iMac. On another forum (planetquark), someone said they were able to get Quark 7 to work by "turning off/unloading" the firewire drivers. Can someone tell me how to do this and what the repercussions of doing this are -- ideally I would like a script/command that could be used in Terminal that would allow me to unload the firewire drivers and then another script/command to reload them when done using Quark. I know this is not an ideal solution, but I need to use Quark 7.5 for compatibility reasons with some clients. (I have tried numerous other solutions and am willing to try this with a little guidance.)
Thanks in advance for any help
    Jeff

I'm more looking for help with the Terminal Commands for removing the firewire drivers. More specifically, if I use the the sudo kextunload KextName command can I simply use the sudo kextload KextName command to reinstall when I'm done using Quark??

  • The Firewire drivers are not loaded

    Hi,
The title of this post says it all.
When using system profiler I get the message " The Firewire drivers are not loaded " in red letters.
The Mac is a 2Ghz intel. So far I have...
    1. Done all the usual maintenance. Erased the internal drive and re-installed the operating system. Re-set the PRAM. Re-erased and re-installed the operating system.
    2. Discovered that the disks that came with the machine ( purchased brand new from Apple ) will not allow me to complete a hardware test - It hangs.
    3. Wondered about being in the wrong job!
This all points, to me at least, to a faulty logic board. If it points some one else in a different direction I would love to hear about it
    Regards
    Ian

  • FireWire drivers are not loaded

I've got a 14 month old 15" MacBook Pro, now running Leopard. Firewire has not been working for some time. I've now looked at the System Profiler and it is reporting the following against the FireWire entry:
Warning: The FireWire drivers are not loaded.
Does anyone know if it is possible to reinstall the drivers, and if so where do I download them from?
    Many thanks,
    Mark

My CrapBook Pro is doing the same thing. I have had problems with the Firewire 400/800 from the start...only recently did I really want them to work. It worked maybe 1 out of 20 times...multiple devices. ALL DEVICES WORKED WITH MY G5 running Tiger (was that before leopard).
So I brought the computer into the Genius Bar...they hooked some things view Firewire and they all showed up. I was told to bring one or more of my devices in to try them there...I get home...connect my WD HD with FW800...it appears...I connected my Plextor Burner with a movie in it...it appeared...I got excited that things might be working. Unplugged items plugged them in again...and nothing is showing up...I can still hook up the WD HD with USB...I know when I try the Western Digital HD via FW THE DRIVE KNOWS IT IS CONNECTED via lights...so I rebooted and tried it again...CRAP...nothing shows up via FW...then I too looked and found:
    FireWire Bus:
Warning: The FireWire drivers are not loaded.
So...Apple is finally becoming as dependable as the PC! What a shame. Sounds like no one reading this forum has been able to get an answer.

  • Completely disabling/deleting firewire drivers in Mavericks 10.9

My wife's MBP has a known bad firewire port/bus. I successfully disabled it when she upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6 (last 10.6.8).  Now she's upgrading to Mavericks 10.9, and I can't find the same files in their logical location.  She got as far as her first reboot, so I'll need to use a separate USB boot disk to access and delete those firewire support files from her new system, so it won't hang it.

Right now I see, I was hoping there was another way that didn't hack the installer, e.g. the 'installer choices' option in the installer command.
I think these are good tools to learn from & glean info from the forum & issue queues…
The InstaDMG forum posts on 10.9 point to using AutoDMG instead…
    https://github.com/MagerValp/AutoDMG
It looks like this is the guts of AutoDMG…
    https://github.com/MagerValp/AutoDMG/wiki/How-Does-AutoDMG-Work%3F
You can copy that process to generate a DMG, or apply the process to a mounted disk - the issue you have is that to install 10.9, you need to be running 10.9!
installer had issues installing for other OS versions, but it may work - it is generally advised to use the same OS IIRC (it's been a little while since I did large build & deployment).
The installer command can show what packages are enabled in an installer (it's an xml file).
    installer -showChoicesXML -pkg /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/SharedSupport/OSInstall.mpkg
You can generate a new one & supply that into the command.
I do not know where all the firewire drivers are located in the pkgs. Open each of the install packages on a Mac that can install 10.9 & use 'File > Show files' inside installer app. I think some Firewire extensions are part of…
    Install ESD > Packages/BaseSystemBinaries.pkg or packages/BaseSystemResources.pkg
Sadly the installer choices for these packages do not have options to disable specific drivers.
It looks like 'installer choices' is not enough?
I think you may want to reconsider what OS you install - the lack of 10.9 support on both Macs makes this tough, unless SFOTT can help?

  • Firewire drivers for Canon i9900???

I had firewire drivers for my Canon i9900 for Leopard (10.5) but upon upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6) the Mac wouldn't see the printer anymore. I read someone mentioning to try a USB cord for someone in the same situation and, presto, the Mac saw it -- but I prefer using the firewire port (if only to free up a USB port).
Isn't that standard to include firewire support in the drivers? Do I need a special driver?

    Update: 10/08/09
FW driver causes printer to hang endlessly without apparent reason. Print cue will show "printing" but nothing happens. Turning the printer off and on again, sometimes several times will usually get it to finally print.
Neither the FW or USB drivers seem to support edge to edge printing anymore, a feature Canon bragged about on this printer and one I depend upon; Letter Extra and Tabloid Extra have disappeared from the dialog box and choosing borderless printing has no affect and the extent slider is grayed out. Furthermore the non-print area around the paper edge seems to have gotten wider with these new drivers, all and all making this printer next to useless to me. Is this Canon's way of telling us they don't really support this printer anymore?
I'm back to the USB driver, which at least prints, after I watch the spinning beachball for 20 seconds. Anyone figured out how to get edge to edge to work?

  • Does 10.5.6 have new firewire drivers?

Just checking because I've been having some issues that seem driver related. The two I'm interested in are:
    AppleFWAudio.kext (Current is 2.4.2)
    IOFireWireFamily.kext (Current is 3.4.4)
They can be found in Machintosh HD\System\Library\Extensions. If someone could check it out for me I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.
    Dustin

Basically I have a new macbook pro 2.4GHZ running 10.5.6 with a Mackie Onyx Satellite that actually worked (a bit) under 10.5.5. I have sent it to the repair shop because it has internal issues but that is another story.
I have noticed that my extensions folder does not have the AppleFWAudio.kext file. I was going to back it all up and then redo the 10.5.6 combo update but my Firewire WD Hardrive failed. So...
    • I downloaded the Firewire26 SDK from the Apple Dev Site.
    • Once I get the HD up again I will back up my machine and install the 10.5.6 combo
    • If the FWAudio.kext is still missing I will then install the firewire SDK
Short of doing that has anyone else got any advice or fixes?
    http://www.macmaps.com/firewirebug2.html
Is a good read (provided by a brody) but there is nothing recent for 10.5.6.
Meanwhile Mackie has no new drivers.
I actually installed the drivers for the MOTU traveler (available from Versiontracker) when I was running 10.4 and this solved my Mackie Onyx firewire problem. Sometimes these rival companies have new firewire drivers for similar devices and it works.

Hi. Well - Apple FireWire "trouble-shooting" is here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303598
but I would check the website of the device manufacturer for up-to-date drivers - and possibly try a FireWire reset, bottom of the page here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88338
If none of this works, re-installing the combo OS X update may help. (Personally - I disconnect all FireWire devices while updating - I still remember the amusing 10.3.6 incident...)
    Good Luck.

  • Any way to replace 10.4.3 firewire drivers with previous versions?

Happy New Year everyone. It seems since I installed 10.4.3 I have some major problems with write errors and external disc damage (in the case of firewire ipods and 1 of my outboard firewire drives) from my g5 firewire bus. Hardware test on the logic board (which includes firewire hardware) checks out OK so it must be the software drivers. On some other posts people have talked of replacing just the firewire drivers with those from 10.4.2. If this is possible could someone walk me through the steps to do it? Or at least to reinstall the 10.4.3 drivers (maybe they have been corrupted somehow?) SOSapple people won't support this - they want you to do a archive/install of the whole system, which I'd prefer to avoid.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hmmm no problem here, have you updated your iPod software?
Visit the Apple downloads page if it's not showing up in Software update.
check your version, your still on Panther.

  • Reinstallation of specific firewire drivers?

So I was a bit of a moron the other day in attempting to hook my PowerBook up to my HD cable box from Comcast. I was using directions that were a few years old, and without realizing what I was doing (looking back on it I can't believe I was so careless) I installed FireWire drivers that not only did my OS not need, they were a few years old. Is there any way for me to reinstall only a few specific drivers from the OS CD, or am I SOL and just have to reinstall my whole system? The drivers that were replaced were these:
    AppleFWOHCI
    AppleLynx
    IOFireWireFamily
    IOFireWireSBP2
    IOFireWireAVC
    IOFWDVComponents
They were part of the FireWire SDK version 19 that (I now know) is not needed with 10.4. Any help would be appreciated, I just really don't want to spend a few hours reinstalling and reconfiguring the entire system. Thanks!

You can use Pacifist from charlessoft.com to extract the drivers you need from the OS install CD/DVD

  • No wifi in windows 7 via bootcamp;missing drivers

Just bought a rMBP a couple weeks ago. I installed windows but am unable to connect to the internet on the windows side. It says no connections available. It also gave an error message about missing drivers/network adapter.
I switched back to the mac side and downloaded all available updates in bootcamp, switched over and installed them in windows. Didn't change anything.
Can I download whatever drivers I need manually? Where can I find these? Thanks for the help

  • Bootcamp trackpad drivers for windows 7 seem to get overwritten.

I'm running windows 7 ultimate on my macbook air 13", partitioned with bootcamp 3.2. I've installed the windows 7 bootcamp drivers and applied the track pad settings, and they work correctly for a while, but then they seem to just vanish. I go back to bootcamp and the tab for track pad settings isn't there. This seems to happen about once a week. At first I thought that windows updates were overwriting the bootcamp drivers, but I've disabled automatic windows updates and the problem still persists. If do a repair install of the bootcamp drivers, it works correctly for a a while. But as I said, I have to reinstall about once per week.
    Any suggestions?

I also have a similar issue. Very annoying, and goes away when you reboot.
I can also report that I have unknown devices in the device manager, and no telling hardware failure errors in the event log.
Could you provide a more specific link? That one doesn't go anywhere helpful.

  • Bootcamp support drivers "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running"

    Hi,
I've searched everywhere I can think of for a solution to this problem with no success. I see other people have reported similar issues and these have not yet been resolved.
I have installed Windows 7 32 bit on a new Mac Mini under Bootcamp. When I go to install the Bootcamp drivers in Windows, I get the message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running".
Other people have reported this issue when trying to install 3rd party software on a 64 bit version of windows but I'm simply trying to install the Bootcamp drivers on a 32 bit version of Windows.
Is it possible the Mac Mini needs a 64 bit version of Windows installed under Bootcamp? I haven't seen this requirement mentioned anywhere.
Appreciated all and any help that can be offered.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because the Late 2012 iMac and Mac mini only supports the 64-bit Windows 7 version, so the drivers you downloaded are designed to work with the 64-bit version and you can't install them on a 32-bit version. Install the 64-bit Windows 7 on your computer

  • Aluminum MacBook - Windows XP in Bootcamp - hardware drivers?

I have recently bought a new silver alumium MacBook and and have installed Windows XP under Bootcamp. When I boot into Windows via bootcamp, the network card and other hardware are not recognised.
Where can I get the drivers for this? I've tried placing the OSX Leopard Retail disc in the drive and it installs drivers, although the hardware doesn't work. The OSX disc that came with the new MacBook - does this contain specific drivers for the aluminum MacBook?

after installing bootcamp/xp, i couldn't install the drivers. the tech told me to try the other disc. there were two in the leopard package; the second one I tried worked fine. Apple should have color-coded the discs or at least numbered them.
[I still have problems finding the ethernet and the pathetic trackpad issue, but those issues are for another thread.]

  • OS 10.9.2 - Sound issues & which Bootcamp SW drivers?

    Hi ...
I have an older mac pro (2008 late) and recently upgraded to 10.9.  To make a short story strait it has been uber **** with 32 bit windows pro but I did eventually get it installed.  What isn't clear is which drivers?  I tried bootcamp 4.1.4586 from apple's site but when I try to run the installer in windows mode I get a complaint that the version isn't compatible with my version of windows.  What should I be running?  Should I just bail and use x64 bootcamp and a 5.x version instead?  As well I have a long standing problem getting sound to be anything but a whisper.
Any ideas?  This upgrade to 10.9 just made a not great situation worse at least for sound and figuring out which drviers to use.
