Bootcamp gaming issue

I just purchased a barely used macbook pro and everything works as it should do in OS X. Now i installed windows 7 64 bit the other day and have installed a few games just for amusement when im travelling around and such. However, two of the games that i have installed, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, both run as if it were in 2x Slow motion and i dont quite understand why. Does anyone have any pointers please?
Thanks

Not all Macs support (officially) 64-bit versions.
Support for 64-bit Windows 7 is also limited and not even official yet (and Apple thing).
Likely you need graphics drivers and to enable Aero.

  • Gaming issues and heat issues, running windows 8.1 pro via bootcamp

I have a few problems, and I don't know what else to do, then to write for help here..
I really hope someone out there can help me, because I have had this problem since I bought my laptop mid 2012, and I got smarter since then, so now I know that I actually shouldn't have these problems, it's not because my very expensive laptop is bad, or that it is a laptop or because it's a mac, regardless of what people say, I'm positively certain that it's a problem which shouldn't be there.
I have pretty great specs, (trust me i checked them out, not the best in the world, but pretty good) yet I can't enjoy 1 single mmorpg game like, Tera, or the new Archeage (currently in open beta), or any other game, (swordsman online)... Even though people say Tera has bad coding, I have tried adjusting things for weeks if not months, NOTHING helps, i get a frame rate that is from 0-25 very unstable, usually around 7-12, and sure if I go the lowest settings in the games I can get very unstable framerates but i guess they can get up to around 35-72 but drops to like 7 or 3 sometimes as well, so even on the LOWEST settings in the games I can't enjoy the games fully... It lags and such because of the low fps ofc...
Other than that it also have a heat issue, mostly when running windows 8.1 in bootcamp.
It get's quite hot, just by opening a browser window, and yes i have tried reseting smc, and p-rams, many times.. nothing seems to help.
And even if it helped the heat problem, the gaming problem is still there.
Now to my specs: (I have the macbook pro retina, mid 2012, 15 inch)
    - Prosseser: 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache. "Core i7" processor (3720QM)
    - Memory: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory
    - Storage: 256GB ssd flash storage. (Seperated into os x = 130GB, windows 8.1 pro = 120GB) Running games and such from my 1TB external harddisk.
    - Graphics and video support:
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors.
And here's a link to see what is inside it for yourself: http://http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core- i7-2.6-15-mid-2012-retina-display-specs.html
When that is said, apple's warranty has run out, and I didn't buy apple care, but I still have warranty from the store (humac) I bought it in, because in my country the law is warranty 2 years, no matter what, but if i can avoid it, I REALLY would like to avoid switching it out with a new one, since there could be problems all over again, and I would lose what I have on it right now, plus it's a hassle to get a new one, they will always try and fix it for a long long time before they give a new one, and probably can't find the problem...
But if that's the only thing i can do about it, I will ofc, but just don't advise me to do that, unless there's no other solution to the problems.
    Please help me.
ps: sorry if I posted it the wrong place, I wasn't allowed to post it the right place by apple...

If the underlying hardware was exposed correctly by the CSM-BIOS when Windows was installed, your Device Manager should look like this.
If the Windows installer did not see any devices as your screen indicates, Windows will use generic software-based drivers which will be very slow and painful.
Rudegar ... I think the Windows installer did not see  any hardware, otherwise there should be HW with yellow triangles with exclamation marks.

  • Issue: bootcamp gaming fan really loud

Computer: MacBook Pro Retina Display 15" (2013)
When I play game under BootCamp Window 7, my fan becomes very loud.
Is there any way that I could reduce the fan's sound?
Will it help if I have an external fan (regular home standing fan or usb fan) that cooling the computer?

    leonhart1981,
if your fan is becoming very loud, it’s because it’s doing its job — your Windows 7 game is creating heat inside of your MacBook Pro, and your fan is doing what it’s supposed to do to prevent your MacBook Pro’s components from baking. An external fan is not likely to significantly reduce the noise of your internal fan, unless you’re saying that you prefer the sound of your external fan to the sound of your MacBook Pro’s fan — the need is to get the heat outside of your MacBook Pro’s case, and your MacBook Pro’s fan is a far more efficient tool for that job than an external fan would be.

  • Windows 7 install on late 2011 MacBook Pro without bootcamp (performance issues)

Hey guys I'm hoping I can get this issue resolved. I have purchased a late 2011 MacBook Pro (radeon 6750m 1gig). I installed a fresh copy of windows 7 without bootcamp. Having real issues with game performance like world of Warcraft. I have done this with an older unibody Mac and it ran great (for any non believer)... But now this time around I'm getting horrible fps in game. I'm thinking it may be driver related it buy I am having trouble finding the right drivers to see if that's then issue. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Shotgun00 wrote:
That is completely false. There is no real need to leave OS X on the Mac if you don't want to, especially with Win 7 or 8. That may of been true with Windows XP but not anymore.
The problem with leaving OS X installed is then you are really limited with what you can do with the drive. You can only have one Windows partition and if you fool with it at all Windows will no longer boot. you can't even change the OS X partition otherwise Windows would boot
Windows 7 will install all by itself. No need for any Boot loaders or Hack Boot system. Pop the Win 7 DVD in the DVD drive and restart. Windows will be installed all by itself. But you do need the Apple support files.
In the end if you are going to run Windows on a computer by itself then you really should not buy a Mac. The hardware is the same and as to the OPs perceived better built quality I personally do not see it. And if you actually read some of the posts on this and other Mac forums you will see that perceived build quality is just a bunch of hype, in my opinion.
To the OP. You aren't missing anything.
If you had carefully read what I wrote, I merely said that doing the install on a blank drive wasn't a good idea. That's because it can create issues the OP is having. A Mac's hardware is no different than a comparable Windows machine, but the EFI/BIOS/Firmware is. Macs are in something of a no-man's land in this regard, as they have neither an old-school BIOS or modern UEFI of recent Windows-based notebooks. I'm willing to bet that the performance problems the OP is having relates to the fact that a straight EFI install on a modern MBP "enables" (for lack of a better word) automatic graphic switching. The capability manifests, but the functionality is not there. Enterprising individuals have been trying to get graphic switching in Windows to work as it does on the OS X side ever since MacBooks debuted with this abliity but with zero success.
Using Boot Camp bypasses this, as the discreet GPU is enabled full-time in Windows. Thus, you will realize proper performance.
As far as perceived build quality, Apple machines are at the high end of the consumer notebook spectrum. They're certainly better than most of the other machines you can pick up at your local Best Buy, but they fall short of business-class machines such as the Dell Latitude/Precision, HP ProBook/EliteBook, and Lenovo ThinkPad.

  • Installing Windows 8.1 with bootcamp, partition issues.

So I am trying to install windows 8.1 onto my MBP running the latest 10.9.2 operating system. It took a while to get the HD to successfully partition, however when I finally got it working, upon booting from the USB drive I got this error message
windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk has an mbr partition table windows can only be installed to GPT disks
Is there any way to change the partition table or to fix this?
I just tried restoring the partition to one, verifiying and repairing the disk in recovery mode, then re-running boot camp, issue persists.
    running late 2011 15" MBP

Well, when you start the computer you should press ALT to show the boot manager. With Windows 8 and 8.1 (for Windows 7 there's not this problem) there should be three different icons: the OS X one, and then two called Wininstall (or something like that) and the other is similar but there should be written something like "EFI Boot".
Well, don't choose the EFI Boot one and you should be fine.
If you choose the first one the Windows installer format the Bootcamp partition correctly, and then you can start the procedure.

  • Macbook Pro being used as XP Pro Bootcamp gaming laptop - OK?

I am looking to buy a Macbook pro 2.4 with 2gb ram. I want to split the drive into 2, making the other side bootcamp, xp pro, for mainly purposes of gaming. Games like COD4, COD5, GRID, etc. etc., but wanted to know before I buy can the Macbook Pro be a good or great as an xp or windows 7 gaming laptop, or should I buy a xp gaming laptop? I can upgrade the ram to 4gb, no problem, if that helps.
    Thanks!!!

Whoa, did that go the wrong way. I didn't mean that Luke "thought" I might be foolish, but, here's my question...
I want one laptop, preferring an Apple, if I get the Macbook Pro and convert it into 1/2 xp pro gaming machine, will it be worth my cash (can it perfome very well in gaming) or just buy a desktop gaming pc and then just a macbook (refurb)? I can't decide. Thanks for your help!!!!

  • Bootcamp booting issue (multiple OSX)

Just got done formatting and installing OSX SL (deleted Lion).  I installed OSX and installed all the updates for SL.
Then I used bootcamp to set up a FAT partition for Win7 and proceeded to install Windows.
I used the Windows bootcamp setup application on my SL disc to install the bootcamp drivers and then updated from 3.0 to 3.1 to 3.2 and finally to 3.3
Finished setting up Windows the way I liked it and then used WinClone to create a backup IMG file.
I then booted back into OSX SL and set that up the way I liked (installed CS5, FCS3, Plugins, etc) and used CCC to create a recovery partition.
So now if I hold down the option key at boot I have Win7, SL and my SL recovery partition.
    I have two issues.
    1)  If I set SL as my startup partition and reboot it just hangs there with the grey Apple Logo screen.  Could this be because I have 2 SL partitons?  is it confused as which one to boot?
    2) What is the best way to protect my newly created Recovery Partition?  Do I just set the permissions for all users/admins to "Read-Only"?  Is there a better way?
Thanks in advance for any input.

    Christopher Murphy wrote:
Tell that to Apple. Boot Camp creates the partition for Windows as FAT32, and it's expected that you reformat it as NTFS. from within the Windows Installer.
I don't have to tell Apple anything. Read the documentation. You just repeated what the documentation says. And the documentation has pictures. I never said Boot Camp Assistant formats the partition to NTFS, I said to read (follow is implied) the documention, I also said Windows 7 requires the partition to be formatted NTFS. It is clear in the documentation how and when the partition is formated to NTFS. Pages 8-10 http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf.
The original poster said he used DU to partition the drive. He needs to use Boot Camp Assistant while following the Installation Guide.

  • Z97-G45 Gaming ISSUES..

    Hi all..
I have the Z97-G45 Gaming board in my pc.. recently installed it.
I am trying to install windows 7 and having a nightmare with it.
The OS seems to install ok, when it comes to reboot to finish the installation I will get a BSOD
If then i reset it again it may boot up ok and get onto the desktop.
If I then shutdown the PC.. on next boot I get the EFI shell inferface and the SSD drive that I am installing to has dissappeared from the BIOS and I cant select it to boot from at all.
If I then turn off and on again, the SSD drive may re appear, system will boot. Then again, if turned off and on again the SSD drive seems to dissappear and I get the EFI shell again.
I have changed my SSD.. same problems happen.. I am on my 2nd motherboard now... same thing happening..
I have tried a new PSU.. same issues.. changed RAM and GPU same issues..
Flahed latest BIOS when I got windows to load but still same issues
Its driving me INSANE.. Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me?

  • Bootcamp Install issues on Windows 7

I've just installed W7 on the new 27 inch IMac and I got everything to work fine through the methods mentioned here. The issue I'm having is that Bootcamp refused to install the driver that allows it to have a "Keyboard" tab that would allow me to make Bootcamp recognize the Function Keys "Mac" functions.
Any idea why it did this and how to fix it?

    From Help in \Program Files\BootCamp
Installing or repairing Boot Camp drivers
You must install the Boot Camp drivers to use all the features of your Mac with Windows. If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren't successfully installed, try repairing them.
To install or repair Boot Camp drivers:
Insert the Mac OS X installation disc into your computer.
Double-click the setup.exe file if the installer doesn't open automatically.
If you are repairing Boot Camp drivers that are already installed, click Repair.
    Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message tells you that the software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Periodically, Apple may provide updated Boot Camp drivers on the Boot Camp support site.

  • Win on Bootcamp brightness issue

    Hi,
I am running bootcamp on MB (late 2008), with Win Vista (32-bit). The screen brightness on the lower end is stuck to an insanely high level (around 50% of the MacOS level) and is proving to be a considerable strain on the eyes. What might the issue be, and how can it be resolved?
    Thanks!

Are you trying to change brightness via that boot camp diamond icon in the system tray? Have you also disabled adaptive brightness in power settings?

  • Bootcamp monitor issue

    Hello,
I recently installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp on my MBP (mid 2012).
I have HP W2072a monitor that I have been using with my MBP without any issues.
After I installed Windows, the monitor has been flickering at the top 1/5 every 3-10 seconds.
I looked through the graphic and monitor setting and everything was set to the natural setting.
Has anyone experienced similar issues? Is there any solution for this?
    Thank you.

    It's NVidia GeForce 320M.
Just checked the drivers page and the Mac side only lists up to 10.6.8
Should I assume that the update needs to be on the Windows 7 side?  At one point last November I tried to update on the Windows side and it caused all sorts of **** on my system causing me to have to reinstall both OS X and 7.
    May be worth another try?

  • Gaming Issue with new 17" iMac (got it 3 days ago)

This has happened about 6 times now while playing the starcraft on my new 17" iMac computer. While playing all of a sudden the game will crash and give me a error message which says that due to a unknown error the application starcraft has been forced to close...I just bought this computer because I heard they are more reliable then PC's but what is going on, I really don't know where to post this question but the game requires the cd-rom to be in the drive to play it so I don't know if it is a cd-rom problem or problem with the actual computer...please help me out here.
The game is 10 years old now so it shouldn't be a compatability issue.
    System information:
    Hard Drive - 500gb
    Ram - 2 gb
    Processor - dual core 2.16
    CD Drive - Superdrive
if you need to know anything else just let me now.

Contrary to what you might think, it's most certainly a compatibility problem. Imagine running a 10-year-old DOS game on Windows Vista or XP, doesn't matter how fast/reliable the OS is, there are bound to be problems.
You have the Mac version with latest updates, but you are still running a 10-year old game on a non-native system (it ran in System 9 when it first came out). It's still powerpc app that need to be translated at run-time to run on your intel Mac. If it runs, fine, if it doesn't, it's not supported anyway. You have to ask Blizzard see if they will release universal binary updates (not very likely).
Or, like suggested above, get the windows version since you can have windows in bootcamp.
Regarding performances, I'm running a 3-year-old game Homeworld 2 in rosetta, and it's perfectly playable, so rosetta is actually quite fast now.

  • Bootcamp - W7 issues once installed

    Hi Folks,
so I will try to put this simply .... Here we go.
I Bootcamp a iMac, one the Newer ones ( no DVD/CD Drive, slim lined )  install W7 all works well even to the point where W7 first opens once installed, you know when all the icon's are massive.
I even get everything working Keyboard & mouse wise ( wired or Bluetooth ), both work, then it goes Tits up ......
I install the BC drivers, even do some W7 updates, then machine re-starts, as it does, thats when it all goes wrong ..... fails.
The nice new W7 opens, looks great nice and crisp, except on thing ..... the bloody Keyboard and Mouse now won't work, Zero movement, not a sausage .
The worse bit is that if I use the wireless mouse W7 see's it and ask me to 'click here' ... I can't.
I have re-installed several time doing different ways just to try and get it to work - USB drive, DVD drive with disc. Still the same result ..... Zero
So my question folks, can anyone please help
I've installed BC on 2 other Mac's ,One newer type and one with the DVD drive and both work, but not this one ................ And even tried with 10.9 & 10.10 still the same result.
    Steve

Thanks for the 'congratulations' I'm not there yet but close   Anyway it's only a number
You'll get there at some point too, but not for many years yet
I will have a go at all of this Fine advice on Monday when I get back to work .... this will not defeat me
And then we will see what happens .... it's just baffling that it works on others ( including my Mac here at home, even though I did it with 2 USB's ) but not on the one at Work .........
I really would like to work because I'm the one ( old that I may be ) who thinks outside the Box, meaning if I can it to work with-out issues, the Powers that be
may go with my idea, buy More Mac's, install BC, and you get the best of both worlds on just one computer
Now what's wrong with that   More Mac's less windows
I'll report Monday if it works out.
Thanks again for your advice and time, have a good week-end
    steve
