My daughter's 13" late 2011 MacBook Pro has frozen (null sign displays) after Yosemite installation. I can, however, boot from a clone of my MacBook Air that is on an external drive. I reinstalled Yosemite on the MBP HD, but it still hangs in mid install. Despite the fact that I can boot from the external, could it be the RAM that's the problem? I'd happily put 8 GB in if it seems probable that would solve the problem. I've tried all the suggested procedures that I've seen posted here. Disk Utility, and my older version of DiskWarrior indicate the HD is OK. I have DiskWarrior 5 on order.

Boot the MBP with the OPTION key down.  If successful, you should see two HDD icons,  Select the recovery partition (on the right).
From the 4 option menu select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.
If the disk cannot be repaired, it will have to be replaced.
    Ciao.

  • BootCamp Has Destroyed My Battery

I have the newest model MBP. I recently installed BootCamp and run XP Pro on it. When I would run BootCamp on battery, it would go to sleep only after 20-30 minutes of use. Very strange. It did this multiple times. Now that I'm back on the OS X side of things for a few days, my battery is jacked. It's going to sleep way faster. I let it sit for a full 24 hours after it forced itself to sleep and it never went completely out. Now I'm charging it back up and it only took about an hour to get to 99%, but now it's been another hour and it's still 'finishing charge.' The bummer about this is that if BootCamp has done something to the battery, Apple wont do anything about it. They don't service, replace or do anything with batteries. They always just claim it's acting up because of use, not that the OS or the computer or even the battery actually has an issue. Almost impossible to diagnose and fix these problems. I'm currently 'calibrating' the battery, but don't have much hope for it as this problem happened all at once. And I'm kind of strict about running my battery all the way down nearly every time I use it before charging it back up.
    Any thoughts or ideas?
PS. Since my last battery charge (during my 'calibration') my battery health has gone from 56% to 37%.

It's 'not' healthy to run them all the way down? Then why do you run it all the way down to 'calibrate' the battery per Apple's instructions? Wouldn't their instructions be harming the battery then?
Well, Apple doesn't recommend calibrating +every day+, do they??? They recommend it *_every two months_*, which would be 24 times in a 4 year period, or about 6% of the battery use of a battery that lasted 400 cycles over that 4 year period. But of course, you sacrifice a small percentage of your battery life with a calibration; is that "harmful"? Maybe. But, calibration allows the OS to more accurately determine the run time remaining for a given charge level, which is important for initiating Safe Sleep at the appropriate time, etc. - and that benefit outweighs the "harm" of a periodic calibration.
I'm at about 420 cycles right now. I run my battery through 2-3 cycles every day.
In that case, it's time for a new battery!
My main problem with that is that I will be very far from electricity where I'm going to live soon and will carry a few batteries with me, and as you can understand, I'll be using them all the way down by necessity rather than convenience.
Then, you'll need new batteries fairly frequently, I suppose. As I stated, 400-500 cycles or 3-4 years, whichever comes first. Batteries are consumable items, and if you use them hard, you need to replace them sooner. That's not Apple's "fault," it's a limitation inherent to the chemistry of a lithium-based rechargeable battery (which is the best technology that's currently available for this application).

If the MBA is within 14 days of the purchase date from an Apple sore, you may return it for a refund or an exchange.
Regarding the specific problem you are facing, can you provide more details, such as the application that you were using and exactly what the response was.
    Ciao.

  • My ipod touch has frozen with a white screen. None of the buttons will work to turn it off or take any action. Holding down buttons for 10 seconds plus does not work.Help

My ipod touch has frozen with a white screen. The on/ff and sleep buttons will not work whether pressed for a moment or held for more than 10 seconds as per help pages. When connected to computer it is not recognised and no indication in "devices".It has been working perfectly from Christmas until now. Was watching a TV prog via BBC iplayer when the image and sound froze for about 5 seconds then just white screen. Help

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

Did another window open with the pasted information?  If so, try hitting "enter/return" key and "delete" key at the same time.  That should get rid of the current action on the ical, the extra window should go bye-bye, and all should be fine with the world.

  • After upgrading to iOS 8.3, the keyboard has frozen up  and I can no longer text or access my contacts.  I've re-booted the phone several times, to no avail.

After upgrading to iOS 8.3, the keyboard has frozen and I can not longer text or access my contacts.  I literally just upgraded to an iPhone 6, but I'm just about ready to can this phone and go with an Android.  Can anyone help or have the same issues?

Im having the same problem. This started with iOS 8 and Yosemite. Im in a group message with 10 people with and without iPhones. Currently have 9 threads and when ever a new person responds a new thread forms. they all have the same people but in a different order, that may be part of the reason why iMessage doesn't recognize them as the same conversation.
As I'm writing this post 3 new threads opened and other people with and without iPhones are mentioning the same problem
hope apple can fix this. VERY annoying

  • IPod Nano 5G (16 Gig) has frozen on the Reset Settings Screen

My iPod Nano 5G (16 Gig) has frozen on the Reset Settings Screen after I tried holding the middle button to re-set. I was doing this as a result of the backlight timer not responding. I'm really worried now, even if I plug into an official Apple external USB outlet or my PC nothing is happening - it's just stuck on that screen. Has been like this for about 4 hours now. And iTunes is saying it doesn't recognise the Nano and its not showing as an external drive on my PC.
Though this was bought for my from HMV at Xmas would I still be able to take the Nano to the Apple store as a last resort? Any help would be great, thanks.

Hi I tried this from: Zolved.com +Toggle the Hold switch to on, then back to off (none of the red is showing).+
+Press and hold down the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until you see the Apple logo) as shown in the picture.+ And it appears to have worked, so am guessing this is the standard way of re-setting the Nano? Thanks

  • My keynote has frozen and wont open but the saved version wont open either. if i restart my laptop i am afraid that it will erase my work. please help me

my keynote has frozen and wont open but the saved version wont open either. if i restart my laptop i am afraid that it will erase my work. please help me

Try this repair for Keynote 6.2,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

empty the trash:  Finder > Empty Trash

Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.
Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
    4
when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click  repair disc permissions
    5
when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

install Keynote from the Mac App Store
let us know if this helped

I have an iPhone 4S which was due the upgrade to it's IOS.
I have tried to update it through iTunes in the normal way but it has frozen.

    Can anyone help.
