Boot Camp 3.0 Frequently asked questions
Apple Boot Camp Support
Apple never supported 64-bit XP and even said so.
You will find you can install some, XP doesn't have the "troubleshoot compatibility mode" in properties probably that came later?
you need to copy from DVD to a folder in Windows all the \Bootcamp and instead of using Apple Setup.exe find Bootcamp64.msi
Or exchange for something that works, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (not SP1 though) either retail or system builder ($99)

Windows 8 BootCamp Installation Not Working
Hi, I recently found out that you could use Windows on a Mac using Bootcamp. Me, being a serious gamer decided to try it out. i have the Win. 8 disc and I also have the drivers on my flash drive {4gb}. Using bootcamp, I made a partition and restarted. Everything was fine until I clicked on 'Install Now.' An error popped up saying the following:
"A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be DVD, USB, or Hard Disk driver...."
Then it says to insert the flash drive for the drivers, so I do, and I see it when I'm browsing for drivers, but for every singe driver, it is not compatible with Windows 8. There were 10 drivers that were compatible, and if I tried to install it just says that I need to get an updated driver from Microsoft. Is there a way to bypass this? Disable Driver Signature Enforcement?
My Mac:
Macbook Pro 13.3'' Non-Retina, Mid-2012
2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Yosemite 10.10
Process:
I downloaded WindowsSupport software using Bootcamp, and then it asked me to put the installation media in, so I did. From there it asked me to partition and reboot. You know the rest.
Windows Installation:
DVD
Please help!
Thank you for taking your time to help me,
CEOofAppleYou can start the Windows installation because you have started in EFI mode. You can install Windows in this way, but you won't be able to install Boot Camp drivers and you might have issues, so I don't recommend you to do it.
You don't need any additional driver during the Windows installation, and this is probably caused because your Macbook Pro isn't designed to install Windows in EFI mode -
MSI installer not working MSI 5.0 Windows 7
Hello I am trying to get MSI installer to work and when I go to install anything that has the Windows Installer Package it opens Notepad in a scrambled message. I have tried numerous avenues to no avail (regedit, copy paste regedit, troubleshooters, sfc/scannow,
command prompt etc.) I tried to choose the file association of MSIexec in System32 and it just opens this
I have tried what is suggested in this forum
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/f699e632-54ba-443b-85df-269a7fd6cf1a/windows-installer-not-working?forum=w7itprogeneral and regedit says:
I have tried this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso1 and didn't work
I have tried changing C :\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe /V in regedit and that didn't work
I have searched event viewer and all that's in there is a warning and information of successful installs and uninstalls.
I have tried %windir%\system32\msi.dll version in Command prompt and it says that the system cannot execute the specified program
I am thinking it is just a matter of finding the correct file association that the windows installer can use to install that program but I am unable to find that!
I did a system restore but the only good restore was from earlier today and it still just opens notepad. before I did the restore I went into services and the computer couldn't find the file (windows installer) so I did a restore and now it at least sees
the file and I can start the service.
Can I please get some help fixing this? would uninstalling MSI and re-installing it work? I have been searching forum after forum and nothing has yet worked.
I did a clean install of windows a couple of weeks ago
Microsoft answers gives me thee worst answers a person could come up with.
for a complete list of what my computer is check my bioHi ingenuities,
Try importing these reg file under Safe mode.
If you really need this work, I am supposing the only way is to try importing them manually, if any value key is using by process, use process monitor to filter out these processes and shut them down.I monitored values under MSI.package seems like no
value was using by system.
I exported msi.package and patch to text, it is from a clean Windows 7 intallation。

Mac Os X lion installation not working.
os x lion installation not working, when the installation bar comes to 99% a pop up widow tells me that the installation has failed and the file could be damaged or something. But i just downloaded it from appstore. Any ideas?
Here's an update on my problem:
Called Apple Support the other day. They basically told me that they can't help, because this is a problem of misconfiguration and that those kinda things weren't covered. Still the person on the line gave me a hint, I should look for leftovers of previously installed software in /Library/LaunchDaemons/ and /Library/LaunchAgents/ .
Well, that did the trick. In one of the folders I found "net.shrew.iked.plist". This file obvioulsy belongs to the ShrewSoft VPN client. I removed it and the built-in client works again.
I reinstalled ShrewSoft one more time to see if it works without the mentioned plist-file...needless to say it wouldn't connect anymore, but that's alright with me - for now. -
Why is Bootcamp is not working right on my MacBook Pro (No Bootable Device)?
I am not a computer geek but I learned a lot through reading forums and other people’s experiences. I want to use Windows 64bit in order to work on an Architecture portfolio using AutoCAD, Revit, 3DS Max, Sketchup, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I use these programs at school and on a PC and love it. I want to use these programs at home but wasn’t confortable with the Mac version so I had Windows installed on Parallels but even after upgrading my RAM to 10GB my computer was quite slow so I rather work on my projects separate from my Mac side (also, would feel less distracted) and set up Windows on Bootcamp, but I’ve encountered some issues.
I wasn’t planning on partitioning my hard drive until after updating to Mavericks. Then I noticed I did not have the option to create a Windows 7 install disk so I reprogrammed the info.plist for the option to appear. After following all three steps, the computer restarted with a black screen that read “No bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key”
-Pressing any key didn’t help so I restarted and held the alt/option key until the booting options popped up and only got
-Macintosh HD
-Recovery HD
-Did not get a Bootcamp boot option so I repartitioned the hard drive to a single volume and repeated several times and still the same thing
-I tried using Disk Utility to partition, but the results were the same
-I tried using a different Windows7.iso file and still the same
-I also tried a 2.0 and 3.0 USB thumb drive for the .iso file
-Bootcamp Partition shows up on my Finder window on the side tab under ‘Devices’ and shows up on Disk Utility, but not on Startup Disk and not when I start my computer and hold alt/option.
-I did not plug in the Windows Support Software at all (I read somewhere that said not to plug in until after Windows partition boots and installs, but didn’t even get to that point)
-Had no CD nor USB plugged in other than the flash drive that carried the .iso
-I read a comment that said to copy the files bootcamp made (WINISNSTALL) to the ‘root’ of the flash drive, but that I see they are already on the ‘root’ (unless I don’t know what root is?)
-I also tried reformatting the partition on Disk Utility from MS-DOS (FAT) to Windows FT Filesystem but fails every time
-I also made a backup, and restored the computer (took hours!) and repeated everything
-After trying almost everything, I still get the “No bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key” message.
When it gets to reformatting, I have no idea what I am doing, the only reason I am trying all these methods is because of what I read on other peoples success stories and comments, but its either my computer does not work, I am missing something, or I’m not geek enough.
-Just to let you know, the first .iso I had worked on Parallels but not for Bootcamp
-I don’t think this matters but I am trying to partition my 320GB hard drive at 70GB for the Windows side. The only thing I will be installing would be the architecture programs while my projects and files would be saved on an external hard drive.
-Computer is up to date at version 10.9.1
-MacBook is from Early 2011, 13-incher
-The only method I could think of that I did not try was using a DVD to create an .iso disk because most comments said USB gave the best results.
-Should I use my Hitachi 250GB External Hard Drive 2.0 instead of a USB Sandisk 16GB 3.0 and Verbatim 4GB 2.0
PLEASE HELP ME ANY ADVICE WOULD HELP!! And Happy Holidays!Your post is incredibly hard to read, font is way to small.
If you used Boot Camp Assistant to create a partition to install Windows to you need a REAL Windows 7 or 8 install media and license key and you have to actually install Windows on your Mac. Boot camp is only for creating a partition to install Windows and starting the Windows install from REAL Windows install media.
That Windows install media has to be a DVD disc, if your Mac has a built in DVD drive (Apple does not allow Windows to be install any other way on Mac computers that originally come with a built in DVD drive), or from a USB stick with the actual Windows install files on it (Not an ISO of the Windows install files).
So the question is did you install Windows on your Mac? It doesn't look like it from the Option key boot and the list of available Boot Devices you posted. -
SuperDrive not working and bootcamp seems not working with external CD
Hi everyone,
I have a MacBook, and the internal SuperDrive is dead, now I'm using an
external CD drive (USB).
Yesterday I bought Leopard 10.5.4, (need to intall BootCamp).
The update from Tiger to Leopard was easy, and withought problems, but when I tried to install BootCamp, the partition seems correctly created, but when the program request the Windows CD and restart, a grey screen apears and nothing
happend... also Leopard is unable to start again, just the grey screen...
Now I found that if I press alt key, appear the Macintosh HD and i can start it,
but never automatically...
What can I do? I tried to reintall again with the same result...
I need BootCamp, if not i think i waste 129$ cause the only reason to purchase Leopard was BootCamp... also I need my computer reebot again by itself, not using the alt key... that's really anoying...
Please Help
Best regards.Hi BigWaveSurfer,
I don't have an external CD/DVD-Drive, so I made some guessing.
From my understanding of Windows it is more likely to work with an USB-connected external drive than with a FireWire one.
Windows XP (and Vista to my knowledge) can only support/access Firewire devices with additional drivers, that are not loadad/used during the installation phase.
Only when Windows is fully installed the needed Firewire driver is present and Windows can use it.

Application installer not working with PC Suit App...
I have a Nokia E60 and Windows XP SP2. After installing PC Suite 6.82.96.4 I try to open the App. installer but it opens and closes inmediately (blinks) but do not work. I try to do the installation through the File manager, and I can see and open the Nokia browser, phone memory etc, but whenever I try to install, the following message is shown Nokia Application Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Detail is: Error signature AppName: applicationinstaller.exe AppVer: 6.82.96.4 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 90909090 It also shows that there is an error report that I cannot find C:\DOCUME~1\rodrigm3\LOCALS~1\Temp\9e61_appcompat.txt Could you please help me to fix the problem? thanks a lot
Regarding my problem, I attach the log file generated in the error report in case it can help to the Nokia support (or anybody able to help...) It should have to be a PC config problem, as I am totally able to install application with the same version of PC Suite in other colleagues PCs Thanks for your support....

Bootcamp is not working and my mac mini boots in to windows 7
. my mac mini does not have a optical drive . is there a way to get into disk utility ? Also my keyboard does not work at the startup. How to recover
I think this helps explain how to fix this HDMI Audio issue running Windows via Bootcamp. (I'm running Win 8)
1. Go to Programs on the Control Panel
2. Uninstall Intel HD Graphics Driver
3. Restart computer
4. Go to Intel's Driver Support website and download the driver.http://downloadcenter.intel.com/
(I'd reccomend just selecting the auto scan and it will show you what drivers you can install)
5. Install the Intel HD Graphics Driver
6. Restart computer
7. Go to Hardware and Sound on the Control Panel
8. Click on Sound and the Intel Display Audio should display now and set it as default
Hope this helps with anyone experiencing this same issue. -
Flash Player not working in Win7 64bit machine
Greetings.
I have spent the past couple of weeks combing through first the help files, and then these forums looking at what should be the same problem I have. Even now up to the past couple of minutes it seems someone besides me is having this issue. I am wondering if I can get help here as most others have seemed to have gotten resolved.
I don't have Macfee, I am using MS Security Essentials, and Super Anit Spyware and Windows Firewall. With all of them disabled during the installtion the videos still fail. I've tried them on and off again and no help there. Shockwave works just fine but the flv files just don't go anywhere. I am not seeing any reference to flash video in Firefox, and I don't get the object in the addon listing in IE 8.
I tried the beta version for the 64bit and it didnt work either. Oddly, when I got this computer in November, I had flash all over the place. Cnet, Youtube, G4, MMORPG, you name it. All worked just great. Now I have black or white empty boxes and no videos.
It may seem like a long time before asking for help directly, but I am a tenacious bugger that likes to learn and exhaust all possiblities first. I also hoped my question would be answered in this forum as so many people seemingly had the same problem.
Please Help! I am at a loss at this point.
ThanksI run with the 32 bit IE, according to the document pages in the Adobe instructions. It does not work. I moved over to the 64 bit version and tried the beta flash as well and that doesn't work either. Yes I get the window that says flash succesfully installed, with the version numbers below it. However, if I use the "open link in new tab" it does not show up, and the version window has the little x box in the upper right hand corner.
Files installed in the macromed flash folder are:
Flashplayer trust folder/ EACorTrust.cfg
Flash10l.ocx
FlashInstall
flashplayer.xpt
FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll
FlashUtil10l_ActiveX
FlashUtil10l_Plugin
install
NPSWF32.dll
Thank you for the prompt response. -
Mac Book OS X 10.6.8 installer not working
I've trying to update my Itunes and it will not work i get the following message: "The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs." I recently brought my Mac to Ottowa for new battery and this started after that. I've also tried to instlall BlackBerry for Desk top and the following Error message: "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacture for assistance."
Right now I'm not able to install anything, I've had the MacBook for almost two years now and still have over 440 gigs free space. Any help would be appreciated I tried everything with my limited skills, I live in an isolated are of Canada so don't have access to a store.
Thanks in Advance,
JasonFrom what you describe, it sounds like you're trying to update iTunes to the latest version, but can't. Whereas the title of your post is talking about having a problem with the 10.6.8 Update, which is not iTunes. So, I'm confused: which of these are you really talking about, iTunes, or the 10.6.8 Update?
If you're really talking about iTunes, then it's possible that something in the download has been corrupted and so it can't be installed. If you live in a remote area of Canada, what sort of Internet service do you have: Dial-Up, ADSL, or Cable? The type and speed of service could very well have caused corruption in the download.
But if that's not the real issue, then it's equally possible that something in your current Snow Leopard installation is corrupted or not in the proper place (like if you move applications or files from where they're expected to be). That could also cause iTunes or anything else to fail during installation. -
Citrix HDX Flash redirection plugin installer not working
Hi,
We have been trying to install the Citrix Flash redirection plugin (Products - XenDesktop - Download Flash Plugin - Citrix) but it is not working.
When the installer begins after download, it starts to retrieve the install and then the windows goes blank (below)
I ran a debug install as a previous thread suggested and have pasted the comments below. We have tried this in numerous machines, different Operating systems on different networks, all with the same outcome. (the file path has been altered by me, below)

===============================================================================Hi Jack,
The link Citrix has on their page for the Flash Player installer is incorrect. This has been escalated and Citrix will be contacted about this matter.
To download the Plugin Citrix is using, go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions, select your Windows OS version and then select 'FP 16 for Firefox - NPAPI'.

Mac installer not working 10.7.4 Macbook Pro
My mac installer is not working ever time I try to install something I get an error message saying: this problem all started about 3 months ago when I installed osx lion
I bet the installers are already downloaded. If not download it manually on the apple site. after that try PRAM . Restart Mac, when the screen goes black and press & hold option - command -R -P and release after 3 boot tones. Then after the restart disconnect from the net and make sure the date (year) is still 2011 and install the softwares.

Is Apex 4.0 Installation so difficult?!
Tried a basic installation a few times. It is not working. But I can remember a few months ago I had installed 3.2 successfully. I removed the entire schemas and installed a fresh Apex 4.0 installation again.
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
Apex Installation Log file successfully shows the installation is complete
I have configured the embedded PL/SQL gateway
SELECT DBMS_XDB.GETHTTPPORT FROM DUAL - returns 9000 (which is what I want)
I have enabled network services in Oracle 11g
Inspite of all this when I give the http://hostname:port/apex, it comes with internet explorer cannot display webpage.
The troubleshooting side on the Oracle manual is small, and does not contain much information on actual troubleshooting.
Any help gratefully receivedI don't think any Oracle product is certified for Windows Home. Can you upgrade to Windows Professional? I know that I used to be able to find workarounds for earlier versions of Windows and Oracle, but I found that when I tried to install Oracle 11g and Application Express 4.0 on Windows 7 that I needed to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. That could be your total problem. Other than that, the following is a list of things to check.
Do you have enough disk space?
Is Oracle Text installed?
Are you logged in as an operating system user with administrator privileges when doing the installation?
Did you change your working directory to your apex directory, connect sys as sysdba, and run apexins.sql, apex_epg_config.sql, apexconf.sql, and apexchpwd.sql?
Are there any errors in the installation log or does it say "Thank you for installing Oracle Application Express..." indicating it completed successfully?
Are the apex accounts unlocked and have you granted connect privileges?
Did you try re-starting your computer?
Are all the Oracle services started? You can check from control panel -> system and security -> administrative tools -> services.
Are you connected to the internet?
Are you using internet explorer 7.0 or higher?
Do you get the correct results from the follwing:
select status from dba_registry where comp_id = 'APEX';
should show valid
select dbms_xdb.gethttpport from dual;
should show the port you selected
select owa_util.get_version from dual;
should show version 10.1.2.0.6 or later
show parameter job_queue_processes
should be 1000
show parameter memory_target
show parameter shared_pool_size
either memory_target value should not be null or shared_pool_size >= 100 mb -
SimplePass and FingerPrint Reader not working - Win 7Pro 64Bit
I have a Envy DV7-7212nr which has been running flawlessly with Windows 7Pro for the past two years. Fingerprint reader and SimplePass has been working fine. Last week I downloaded from the HP support site for this notebook the updated SimplePass. After removing all passwords from the account, uninstalling the old software and driver and updating with the HP software, it quit working to the point where I couldn't even log in to my computer. I finally got in under administrator and had to manually remove and uninstall the SimplePass software and edit its entries out of the registry.
I can now get back into my laptop fine (no password protection). Following the advice of the HP Tech via chat session I again ninstalled the driver listed under Biometrics and uninstalled the software and downloaded the SimplePass from the HP Support site with upgrades listed for this machine. The Tech took over the machine and tried installing and re-installing and then finally said it was a hardware issue. I don't believe it's a hardware issue in that at the Windows Login Screen, if I swipe my finger, it recognizes the swipe but then gives an error message that there is no fingerprints associated with the reader (or something like that).
If I back out and just login without the reader and launch SimplePass (Authentec Version 6.0 downloaded via HP Service Pak) - 2013-04-05 , Version6.0.100.272, 66.44M - SP61399, the splash screen opens and says DOWNLOADING DATABASE - and nothing else happens. It then pops up an error box labeled IESiteLogin.exe with an EXCEPTION ERROR.
White lite on reader never comes on. Driver details says all is working fine.
Repeated un-installs and re-installs have no effect.
I no longer have the original SimplePass and Driver filed so I can't revert back. Can someone please offer a solution or provide a URL that will allow me to download the original SimplePass and Validity drivers so I can get this working again?
HP's download caused the problem - I would think they could fix it.
Thanks in advance.thx1326,
I am sorry the Driver did not work.
You might try the Hard Reset procedure below to clear the device cache and allow the driver a better chance to set into place.
thx1326 wrote:
Ok... so the validity driver did nothing. Shows fine in device manager - but nothing. If i install SimplePass, as soon as it finishes installing and everytime I try to run it... I get the pop up window above.
Worst of all... don't you think it is deplorable that no one from HP has bothered to offer help?
Their tech support is really almost non existant. The tech support person that called me back today kept trying to say it was all my fault for downgrading to Windows 7 and that they don't support Windows 7 and it was my problem. I finally had to politely ask him to shut up and listen and answer me if they don't support Windows 7, why do they offer driver and software updates for Windows 7 on the support page for this laptop... of course he had no answer for that. Another 30 minutes wasted that I will never get back.
Thanks again for any help.
Commentary
It is always unfortunate when a system does not respond to an Upgrade or Downgrade of the Operating System in the way one hopes.
There is no guarantee that there are Drivers for every model and for every version of the Operating System that one wishes -- changing the Operating System from that of the originally installed version is the responsibility of the owner. Demanding otherwise is futile.

Driver Options - Windows 7 dv7-7200 series
HP SimplePass Series 6 requries a Validity Driver minimum version: 4.3.0.205
To try a different Driver:
First >> Fully Remove any existing Driver
Windows 8 Windows key + X > M (opens the Device Manager) >
OR
Windows 7 Control Panel > set icon view > Device Manager >
Open category Biometric Devices >
Right-Click on Validity Sensor Driver > Uninstall > in box > Click Delete
Next >> Perform the Hard Reset
Create a Restore Point: Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR Create a restore point Win8
Close all your programs and shut down the computer
Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook model
Boot the computer and log in
Reminder: Hard Reset is just a device Reset. The procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way. This type of reset "clears the cobwebs". Depending on the root cause of the problem, this procedure can fix a variety of computer glitches.
Next >> Install the replacement Driver
Try one of the following drivers:
Validity Sensor Driver sp53369 V4.3.205.0
Validity Sensor sp54484 - V4.3.205.0
Restart / Reboot the system
===========================================================================
Other Option
I suggest you use System Restore to recover the Validity Sensor Driver you must have been using for the past two years running Windows 7 and HP SimplePass version 6.0.100.272.
Restoring Windows to a Previous Point (Windows 7)
