Bootcamp limited wifi

I'm getting limited wifi connection using bootcamp on windows 8.1 on bootcamp. I tried methods like reinstalling the wireless drivers, but I'm still getting the same errors. I'm not sure if I'm getting the same problem as other people on this, since if I connect an ethernet cable, restart the computer in windows and connect to wifi, and unplug the ethernet, the wifi works.

  • Bootcamp 5 wifi not connecting

I'm in the process of a full-bore triple-boot (Mavericks, Win7, Ubuntu) reinstall, and I've run into a problem with Bootcamp 5's Wifi driver for Win7/64.  When I try to connect, it sees the WEP network in my house, but when I try to connect, I get a previously unseen sequence.  The first message says it's collecting data from the network, and the next one is a "Network Authentication" prompt for User name and password.  For the last couple of years (before the reinstall), I just got a simple WEP passphrase prompt.  So how do I get this working? I did get one "Driver installation failed" message, but when I clicked "for details" the message just disappeared.  All the other important drivers seem to be working just fine, it's just this odd wifi connection behavior that I've noticed and can't resolve.  The wifi works just fine under Mavericks.
Context: Macbook Pro, 15-inch, early 2011; Mavericks (10.9.4); Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  Bootcamp 5.1.5621, downloaded today.

    And the answer is . . .
Not an Apple problem.  Windows 7 is very protective, not making it easy for me to connect to a WEP network.  But it can be coerced, and I coerced it.  Problem solved.

  • Time Capsule WiFi stops when copying large files to Windows 7 (Bootcamp) using WiFi

I've got a new Time Capsule (Purchased less than a month ago) and a new Macbook Pro.
I copied a large set of files (large in QTY & some Large in size > 2GB) to my Time Capsule from a Windows 7 computure via a Wired connection.
When I access the time capsule from Mac OS X (10.8.2) I can copy all of the existing files to my Mac without any issue (Time machine also seems to be working fine).
However when use I Bootcamp (Windows 7 Ultimate) from my MacBook (The Time Capsule / Airport software for windows has been installed) I can only copy about 100 MB before the WiFi in the time capsule stops working. The WiFi doesn't just stop working for Windows, it stops working on the actual Time Capsule; I can tell because my phone and iPad both lose their connection and the AirPort Utility on the iPad can't detect the Time Capsule any more.
The issue is reproducable every time with the set of files I am trying to copy.
I've called Apple Support and they said there was nothing they can do to help (It took a long time to even convince some one that this is a supported configuration even though the Technical Specifications of the time capsule clearly state that Windows 7 is supported - http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/specs.html "For AirPort Disk with a USB hard drive - PC with Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista (SP2), or Windows 7 (SP1)")  at which point they told me to take it to a Genius bar. I've subsequently done that and been told that they will not support the Time Capsule because I am trying to connect to it using Bootcamp.
From what I've seen on this forum some people previously had this issue and worked around it by downgrading the firmware. However, since my Time Capsule is new, I am unable to downgrade the firm ware (& it is the latest).
    Any suggestions?

No, it's not a Windows driver issue. 1) If it was a Windows driver issue the network copy would drop out on the Windows machine or fail rather than the whole Time Capsule losing WiFi connectivity for all devices in my house. 2) I am able to copy the exact same set of files, via the Time Capsule WiFi, when the files are stored on my PC which is plugged in to the Time Capsule via an Ethernet cable.
It's not a problem copying the same files from another location on my network with the MBP in Bootcamp therefore it' not a windows driver issue and it's not a network IP issue. It's a Firmware issue with the Time Capsule.
At best this is a bug that has been reintroduced in the latest firmware which is why the suggestions have been to downgrade the firm ware.
At worst this is a major security issue with the Time Capsule as copying a set of files from it's hard disk via it's WiFi, using a Windows computer, cause the Time Capsule to be subseptiable and result in a Denial-of-Service.

  • Limited WiFi on Lenovo G580

Good morning.  I work for a school district and we let students bring in their own devices.  I have a student that has a Lenovo G580 running Windows 8 that can't get connected to our WiFi.  We have attempted to connect to both our Guest Network (that is open and has no password) and a password protected network, and both show limited connectivity and give IP addresses of 169.x.x.x.  She can connect fine at home or other locations, just not at school.  Our network is fine because we have hundreds of other devices connected to it and working.  I have reset her network adapter, followed the Windows 8 troubleshooting steps, and run an ipconfig release and renew (which did give me a valid IP one time, but I still couldn't get online.  Every time I've tried it since has timed out on the renew).  I am leery to try any updating of the network adapter since it's her personal machine and, as I said, works fine at home.  Other than that, does anyone have any ideas on why she wouldn't be able to connect here?  Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

With an IP address starting with 169, it means that her computer is not connecting with your router at all, not even on a limited basis. There are several things that could be causing the problem, but the easiest way is if you can run ipconfig on her machine.
Open a command prompt (all programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) and type in
Ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt and then hit enter. Then type in ipconfig.txt to open notepad with the log. Copy it and paste it in to your next response.
But it sounds like she has her computer setup with a static IP address and because of that cannot renew the lease on the IP Address so it is reported as a 169 address. Go into the network and sharing center and click on Setup a new connection or network. Then just follow the instructions. .

  • [bootcamp windows7] wifi being disconnected after conneting to a cs server

hi im a new macbook user and im using macbook pro 15" i5
there are games that not able to play on osx so i installed windows 7 ultimate
    also the bootcamp 3.1
then i installed steam and counter strike.
but when i trying to connect to any server, the wifi disconnect automatically.
then reconnect, but if i connect to server again, the wifi disconnect again
so i want to ask if there is any way to solve this problem?

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
    1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
    2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
    3. Do a soft and hard reset.
    4. Reset network settings.
    5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
    6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

  • Bootcamp No WiFi under Windows 10

I just installed Win 10 with bootcamp. No problem. Everything works fine.  Except I can not see my WiFi network under Windows.  Any idea.  It looks like Windows does not recognize my Network Mac Card.
    Thank you

Windows 10 isn't even in public beta at this point. It's a "technology preview". Apple doesn't support Windows 10 in boot camp at this point.
The Windows 10 preview doesn't work with a lot of stuff at the moment.
If you really want to play with it, install it in VirtualBox or VMWare Fusion or something. At least the networking functions will work that way. Setting custom screen resolutions is still difficult if not impossible as it doesn't work with the display drivers in most virtualization packages that provide custom scaling, etc.

  • Bootcamp Limited to 2 Partitions?

I have just set up my iMac to run Win 7 on Bootcamp. I then repartitioned to add a further 2 partitions to my original Mac HD partition and find that I have lost access to Win 7.
Is it not possible to set up the HD in more than 2 partitions when running Bootcamp?
I have seen the thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2431211&tstart=0
but would rather not muck about too much to get around this issue. I would rather have my 3 Mac partitions and no Windows partition if it is likely to make the iMac unstable in any way.

    Hi John,
for the BootCamp Assistant to be able to partition an internal harddisk, it has to find the drive to be filled with one single volume using the 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' file system and the GPT (GUID Partition Table) as partition scheme.
If already partitioned with Disk Utility for example, the BootCamp Assistant usually refuses to 'touch' that harddisk.
A later done partitioning to add additional partitions to a harddisk alters the position of the BootCamp partition in the partition table so that the Windows Bootloader can not 'find' the Windows partition.
With Windows XP it helped to simply edit the Boot.Ini file and point it to the WIndows partition.
With Vista and Windows 7 there no longer is a boot.ini but EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 can do the same.
One thing to remember though is, that even Vista and Windows 7 'suffer' from the limitation of four partitions on one harddisk immenent to the Master Boot Record (MBR) since Apple EFI/GPT/MBR emulation can not handle Extended Partitions and Logical Partitions inside an Extended Partition.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Limited wifi from time capsule

My ipod & laptop connect to the wifi but my peripherals cannot.  The Time Capsule I am using  is 3+ yrs old.  What could be the problem?

Make sure the TC is bridged. In ML go to the NAT area and make sure it says bridge.
The problem with running two wireless devices next to each other is they can interfere.. I am assuming you have the TC plugged in by ethernet.. if this is close to the Hub, then turn wireless off in one or the other.
    Or
Set it up so that wireless is on different channels.
In the TC.. since you don't have pure apple.. set TC name and wireless name to short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric. Apple names with spaces are wrong.
But you can be sneaky.. give the TC the same wireless name.. ie SSID as the HH.
Same security setting.. wpa2 personal.. and same passkey. But they need to be different channels.
Fix the wireless channel for 2.4ghz. I recommend locking both devices which are probably on auto.
Fix HH to channel 1 and fix TC to 13.. since you are in UK. Sometimes 11 is better due to American drivers for wireless not working in the Europe area properly.
Now give a different name to the 5ghz on the TC. So for devices close to the TC they can get much faster connection on 5ghz.. but not everything works.
    See how that goes.

  • Limited WiFi on late 2013 iMac running Windows 8.1 Enterprise

I was able to connect to my wireless network, it got the DNS settings(IP, default gateway and so on) but no internet. I've tried deleting/reintalling the Broadcom Wireless ac driver multiple times from:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
to no avail. I'm at the end of my tether on this.

I'm getting this too, and tried all the above to no avail.
I get a couple of minutes of connectivity and then it will drop out, until I either reconnect or get Windows to resolve the problem where it says it was due to the default gateway not being available.

I have iMac 27" late 2012 Model. ( Updated To Maverick OS 10.9)
i cant use my internet due to less wifi strength.it gets connected and the next moment it disconnects
    I Installed win7 Via Bootcamp.
Wifi signals are same and i can use my internet and its running too smoothly.
    I didn't moved my Mac a inch.
    What To Do..
I want to use my net with maverick :/

Try any of these suggestions that you haven;t already. They mainly reference Lion?Mountain Lion but may still be relevent to Mavericks:
    In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion and possibly Mavericks:

  • Thinkpad yoga - limited connection - intel 7260AC (with solution that worked for me)

    limited connection issue
i'm new to the forum, sorry for bad english
i've a brand new rhinkpad yoga, with win 8.1 and intel ac 7260 wifi card
first of all the solution that worked for me is moving from WEP to WPA2 protection with the router
the problem was that i wasn't able to connect to internet using wifi
i got "limited connection" and i wasn't able to access internet at all
windows validated the connection and obtained an ip, but it wasn't then unable to access internet at all, i also wasn't able to access or ping the router.
i also got an error stating the lack of the default gateway, but this one seems to be resolved by windows check and repair procedures
my router had wep protection, and i used it with no issues with 2 android smartphones, an android tablet, a mac and a linux system, and in the past with windows 7 and vista systems.
i've searched for solution all the night and checked everything
    - system and driver update (via usb thetering)
    - various command to reset network configuration
    - unchecking selected check box in energy saving tab inside wireless property panel
but the only one solution that worked was the move from WEP to WPA2
    hope this helps
    my first post, be patient...

From what I gathered, about the Y2P Limited Wifi issue, this problem is solved by configurating a router to meet the computer needs. Once done, to fully implement this fix, it is adviced  that you carry this configured router and use it every where you go, like a power cord. When you go to Statbuck in the monrining, be sure they hook up your router and return it when you leave. Alternitively, this can be done at other venues like the airport, hotel, school, work, etc.
I really don't know why people keep wasteing their time. Lenovo has chimed in and said this is a router issue. That said, the aformentioned advice is a formulated fix.  Shall we put an end to thiese topics and get the forum moving again past the wifi issues? Like said many times, this issue has been fixed using the above reccomendation.

  • MMS messages with WiFi on

I just assisted in the purchase of 2 Lumia 925 on T-Mobile US
a day or after the purchase, both users noticed that they weren't able to send or recieve MMS messages.
I called TMo, and they instructed me to turn off the wifi ... Lo n behold the MMS's started flowing again...but this didn't make any sense to me why MS/NOkia would make such a setting ... with the wfi off, you can't back up your pictures at the highest res n such...it just wouldn't make sense...
well, messing around with phone myself, i found the following setting which resolved the issue
go into setting > cellular > "for limited wifi connectivity" - toggle it to use cellular...

Hello Kitty1952! I can certainly help you today! My apologies for the trouble you're experiencing! All MMS messages need data in order to send & receive properly. Let's ensure that your data is enabled. Even if you're connected to Wi-Fi, as long as your data is enabled, you'll be able to send properly. To verify data is on: Go to Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > verify Mobile Data is checked off > Go to Global Data roaming Access > Verify Allow access for all trips is enabled. Power off device to reset for 1 minute. Then try to send a MMS message to yourself to test the sending & receiving. Keep us posted, thanks!

  • IOS 8 WiFi automatically downloading something in background!

    Hi,
My iPhone 6 is automatically downloading something in the background but I don't know what it is. I've turned off automatic downloads, deleted iCloud backup, turned off photo stream, but it seems like it's still downloading something. I can tell this because my 4G Wifi adapter shows I'm downloading something on my iPhone, and this is downloading a lot! It's downloaded over 300MB already in just a few minutes! I have limited Wifi per month and this is wasting a lot of my data!
Can someone tell me what's wrong? How can I stop this background downloading?
The problem does not happen when I connect my mac to my Wifi adapter.

Then unless it is some carrier upgrades that are only sent via 4G wifi and not just wifi, I would use a third party data track app available in the App Store to see which app is making use of it. Check this thread:
How do you track your WiFi usage? Is there an app?
