Bootcamp no longer supports windows xp pro?

I have tried to install Windows XP Pro in the Bootcamp partition. But since upgrading to 10.7.x i no longer can do that.
Bootcamp now expects Windows 7 only?
Why disable Windows XP Pro?
Regards

Thanks for your reply.
I did follow a workaround that I found on the Internet.
Basically:
1) In the finder I create a FAT32 partition
2) Restart the Mac with a Windows XP Installer (Hold Option at startup)
3) Re-format the FAT32 partition with Windows and install the Windows OS.
4) Insert the CD #2 that came with my MacMini to update the drivers.
I am not sure if this procedure would work with the newest Macs for which there are no XP drivers, but otherwise
I do not seem to need bootcamp for anything. When I want to use WindowsXP, I simply restart holding the Option Key.

  • OSX Mountain Lion supports Windows 8 pro???

    Hi all,
The latest version(s) of bootcamp states that supports Windows 8 pro.
Has anyone tested it yet?   I want to go for it but before erasing the whole thing I want to be sure that it works.
    I'll appreciate your feedback.
    Cheers!

OS X 10.8.3 and newer include a Boot Camp Assistant version which is compatible with Windows 8, but only for some Macs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
If your Mac is compatible (it doesn't look like it's compatible), follow these steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf You don't have to erase the hard drive.
There are a lot of users who have tested it and it works properly. The only thing you have to do is to install the Boot Camp Support Software in Windows, so your MacBook Pro will work properly in Windows

  • Why does my mac no longer support Windows 8?

So, about 2 years ago, I used BootCamp to partition my macbook (13-in mid-2010). I had Windows 8 installed on the partition, and it was working fine. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and began experiencing problems, so I decided to start over with Windows 8. The only problem is that when I closed out that partition and started a new one, BootCamp informed me that my mac only supports Windows 7, despite having had Windows 8 installed on there just hours before. What happened to make my mac stop supporting 8, and how can I fix this?

You used an earlier version of Bootcamp Assistant to install Windows. What is the current version of BC Assistant on your machine?

  • I asked this Q Aug 20; confirmed account. Firefox crashed again at 8:44 pm: Using Firefox 6. 0 None of crash articles apply. Disabled Java add-ons as I'm using Windows 2000 and all updates are for XP. Adobe no longer supports Windows 2000.

The crash happens when I close Firefox. There is no dump report so I can't give a Crash ID.
Firefox started crashing after I upgraded to 6.0 so I wonder if I should go back to the earlier version.
    Thank you.

I've dropped my guard before with the security and I had so much trouble with my computer because of all the people trying to attack my computer I just can't take the chance again.  www.MySafetyGates.com

  • Can i extract Windows XP pro from Virtual PC 7

Just purchased a new iMac and have installed Lion.  I would like to load Windows and run Quicken 2009 using Bootcamp.  I have Virtual PC for Mac Version 7.  VPC7 has an embeded copy of Windows XP Pro.  Does anyone know how to extract Windows XP Pro and load it on my iMac.  Will Bootcamp recognize and utilize Windows XP Pro?
    thanks for any advice

    Yes, you can.
    See the instrcutions here http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060527175405403
But be aware that the newer Macs (the 2011 released Macs) no longer support XP or Vista with BootCamp.
Only Windows 7 is supported on these Macs by Apple.

  • Mac mini (late 2012) Windows 8 Pro: no HDMI audio & driver error

    Bootcamp 5.0.1
Mac mini (late 2012) server, installed boot camp on the second HD and gave entire HD to bootcamp partition.
Installed Windows 8 Pro from USB key created during installation from iso file, activated with Microsoft. Everything went smoothly, have one issue that I want to share, to see if anyone has been able to resolve. By the way, magic track pad, as expected only have basic functions supported, left and right click, scroll with two fingers, "tap to click" and secondary click with two fingers tap.
Only one issue so far but pretty major one. Audio through HDMI cable doesn't work, all sound plays via Mac-mini's internal speakers. Windows Device Manager shows error for "High Definition Audio Device" - The device cannot start. (Code 10).

Well, arguably bootcamp 5.0.1 does support Widows 7 or higher, there no reference anywhere that it doesn't.
I was able to fix issue by updating driver using intel audio driver. Everything works now...

  • Not supporting windows xp

i accidentally upgraded to mavericks without backing up my computer and now it no longer supports windows xp in the bootcamp. That caused me to lose tons of important files. anyone help please? Thanks!

    bootcamp is 3 things
    1. a setup tool to partition the hd
    2. a boot loader it just hand over the load process to osx or windows
    3. a driver zip file with drivers for windows for the apple hardware
I installed windows 7 ultimate 64bit on bootcamp when I got my mac with Lion
I upgraded Lion to mtn lion
    I upgraded win7 to win8
I upgraded mtn lion to maverics
    I upgraded win8 to win8.1
non of the upgrades ever had any impact on the other they don't even have write access to each others hd partitions

Hi, yeah autoexec.bat is not used anymore. XP has to set the environment variable in system properties just like Windows 2000. Is something in the classpath variable I have to set to use the jar tool?
    Currently my classpath has:
    .;c:\jdk1.3\corejava
It's just the current directory and the corejava library from my book. Do I have to add c:\jdk1.3\bin to it? Since javac, jar.exe are located in that folder or am I wrong?
    Thanks for your help.

  • YOU CANT OPEN THE APPLICATION --------- BECAUSE POWERPC APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED.

    Hello
My problem when start (game)  i see  this error  YOU CANT OPEN THE APPLICATION --------- BECAUSE POWERPC APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED.
mac book pro 2.2gh i7  Mountain Lion
    Please help me

Power PC applications - which your game evidently is -  are not supported by Mountain Lion (or Lion, for that matter).  You either need to make a partition/disk which runs Snow Leopard and run your game from there. Or you need to update your game to be compatible with the current Mac OS.

  • Windows xp pro installation looping

Hey i started bootcamp and use the windows xp pro on my macbook pro, everytime I tried to install it, it would restart and do the same thing over and over again. I finally figured out how to remove the disk from my macbook, but now my screens just black with a folder in the middle with a question mark on it. I put in my reinstallation disk of Mac OS X and now when it says select a destination to store it on... there is none! can someone help me from this point please i would appreciate it alot

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
*"folder in the middle with a question mark on it."*
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Boot your Mac while holding down the Option key. That will prompt the Startup Manager window.
If that doesn't work, check the hard disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free disk space. Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode

When i try to install windows 8 with bootcamp on my Macbook pro (early 2011) it says it only supports windows 7, how can i fix this?

if your computer does not support the operating system you wish to install in bootcamp then you have to use a virtual machine like virtual box to install the operating system you wish to install

  • 2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033, error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Win

2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033 (both on the mac/windows partitions (actually using a parallel to run Windows)), error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Windows
So the question is am I doing something wrong? Should I just try and install windows 8 through my windows 7 partition and see if I can use the bootcamp 5.05033. Or do I solely have to use the bootcamp to install Windows 8? I'm not too familiar with bootcamp and how it runs.

if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
which it is not when it's in bootcamp

  • Is there a way to run Windows 8 pro on a Retina Macbook Pro through bootcamp?

I recently purchased a copy of Windows 8 Pro to see if I could run it through bootcamp. I have a USB SuperDrive , so I thought it would be simple enough. However, I'm pretty lost on how to configure my bootcamp to work. I've aimlessly looked at tutorials and such, but none have been of much help. I know the Retina macbook lacks an optical drive, so I believed using a Super Drive would work. If anyone can shed light on this situation and help it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, but Apple does not yet support Win8, so there are no compatible Windows drivers for the Apple hardware.

bootcamp mean dual boot which mean a dual osx install
virtual machine is installing another operating system as an applications so to speak
