Bootcamp not recognizing partition

Hi everyone.
I have an external hardDrive of 1TB (WD MYBOOK) and had had 3 partitions without any problem (One for TimeMachine with 350GB, one for normal usage and data with around 650GB or something like that and with HFS+ format, and one for Windows with 60GB and FAT32 format). At that moment windows XP in bootcamp recognized all of them without problem but yesterday I had to create another partition in DiskUtility with FAT32 format and 50GB of size and now BootCamp (or any computer) won't recognize my 3rd partition but the new one. I went to disk management (MY computer, right click, manage) and it shows my 3rd partition (FAT32 one) as unassigned space!!??. I have backed up the data in the 3rd partition and reformatted it and nothing, the same thing, I have also tried reformatting it with windows but it won't let me. The curious thing is that my Mac is showing all the partitions with no problem. (I don't know if it matters but I have also noticed that in Disk Utility it says me that the drive is formatted for bootcamp or something and that any changes can make bootcamp unusable, but, how could a drive be formated for Bootcamp? I havent made anything apart from creating my partitions in Mac OS.
Please help!
Thanks

I think i found my problem. i have 4 primary partitions and I was trying to make the 5th one; the first one is a 200mb that says something GPT partition. So now the question is: what can I do if I NEED to create this separate new partition without generating problems in Mac or Windos?

  • BootCamp not recognizing my windows install CD

    Hello,
I'm trying to install BootCamp 1.2 on a fresh MacBook Pro. I'm installed the BC Assistant, run it, partitioned the drive (30GB partition), inserted my Windows XP SP2 install cd, and hit the Start Installation button. BC then reports that I should insert the install CD. The problem is that the install CD is already there!
I've the same exact install CD with BC 1.1.2 with no problem, and on PCs. Any idea why BC is not recognizing it?

Look for "Windows Compatible Technology" on the Discussions page; just click on "Discussions" in the "Apple.com > Support > Discussions ...> trail at the top of any discussions page, or go directly to http://discussions.apple.com.
You should be able to boot it directly; Assistant merely makes it easy to do so. Usually. You MAY have to ensure that it reboots into Windows manually on the restarts if you initiate the install manually, via the Option key.

  • Windows Installer not recognizing partition!

Hey all, I just bought a macbook pro yesterday and have been trying my hardest to install xp viz boot camp. When I start boot camp, I set the partition to 32GB, then click partition. Then a boot camp icon appears on the desktop showing it is 32.11GB in size.
Next it says to put in the XP CD and click start installation. Do that computer restarts, then begins installing windows. However once it gets to the part of choosing which partition to put it on all it shows is c: with 1310xxx MB for the partition. Basically I think it is not seeing my boot camp partition for one reason or another.
I have tried multiple times removing the partition then re-creating it and doing it over and over and cannot seem to find out why the partition isn't being recognized. Any help at all would be great as it doesn't seem anyone has a solution to it. Thanks!
    Jerome

I am trying to install Bootcamp, I've followed the instructions up to this point:
    1
If you already quit Boot Camp Assistant without installing Windows:
    a
    Open Boot Camp Assistant.
    b
    Select “Start the Windows installer.”
    c
    Click Continue.
    2
If you are using a computer with more than one internal disk, select the disk on which
you want to install Windows, and then click Continue.
    3
    Insert your Windows installation disc.
    4
In Boot Camp Assistant, click Start Installation.
    5
Your computer starts up from the Windows installation disc. Follow the onscreen
instructions. Refer to the following sections for more information.
    Selecting the Windows Partition
It is very important to select the correct partition when installing Windows so that you
don’t overwrite Mac OS X on your computer.
To select the correct partition for Windows XP:
    m
    Select “C: Partition3 <BOOTCAMP> [FAT32].”
When I select the "C" partition by arrowing down, and hitting enter, I do not get the choice to format the partition that was initially created, what is going wrong?

  • Upgrade to Snow Leopard: Previous Bootcamp not recognized

I upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now my previous Bootcamp install (windows xp service pack 3)  not being recognized as a startup disk item. The bootcamp partition (named BOOTCAMP) is still active on my Mac Desktop- just not being seen as a startup disk in "startup disk" in System Preferences.
    Macbook Pro- 2007 model
    4G RAM/
    2.33 INTEL Core 2 Duo

After this happens, have you tried disconnecting the drive and immediately connecting a different USB device (perhaps a flash drive) to the same port the Iomega drive was using, just to see whether the port is still active or has shut down? The behavior sounds like what one would see if the drive were drawing too much power from the USB port, causing the port to shut down. But ordinarily there is an error message that accompanies the shutdown and explains that it's because of a device drawing too much power. And of course your drive shouldn't be drawing power from the port at all unless its AC power supply is failing — but if its power supply were bad, it wouldn't work with your Powerbook.
It's an odd and puzzling problem, and I have no explanation for it.

  • Bootcamp not recognizing legit Vista install disc (says it's a blank disc).

Through school, I received a copy of Windows Vista Business. I had it installed on bootcamp for over 2 years.Recently, my hard drive crashed. I replaced the hard drive, reinstalled Snow Leopard, and then attempted to reinstall Vista through bootcamp. I have created the partition on the hard drive. When it gets to the point that I need to insert the Vista installation disc, I insert it, and it tells me the disc is blank. It is an official copy from Microsoft, and has only be in a computer once before. There are no scratches on the disc. I try to open the disc in finder, and it still shows as blank. I decided to try upgrading to Lion, to see if it would help, but it considers the disc blank just the same. I do not have the money to buy another full version of the Windows OS, but desperately need it for school. Please advise!

Lion does not support Vista, or XP, install Windows 7.

  • Hotswap sata drives not recognized / partition table not detected

    Hello Everybody,
I'm having some trouble, recently I bought to hot swap drive bays and moved two of my hardrives into them, but I can't seem to recognize the drives unless I boot with them in the "on" position, if I turn them on later, there's no indication that they are recognized at all by the system (by this I mean that there doesn't seem to be any new sd* or hd* devices appearing in /dev)
If I reboot with the drives configure in the "on" position, then arch recognizes them, but it can't read the partition table on one of the drives; it just shows up as, e.g /dev/sda and I don't see /dev/sda1; the drive has a single partition formatted with xfs (yes I've got xfsprogs installed), and I can recognize it if I boot into Parted Magic 3.5.  I wonder if it's becuase I have BSD partition table?  Anway, this isn't a huge issue, becuase I'm just going to transfer the data onto an external usb drive, reformat and transfer the data back.
I really do want to figure out a solution to the hotswapping problem though, because I don't want to have reboot if I want to hotswap the drives; this completely defeats the purpose of having hot-swappable drives.
Thanks for any help you can give,
    -Pseudonomous
    Edit 1: Potentially useful data:
I've got an ATI SB700/SB800 sata controller according to lspci
    Edit 2:
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to contact AMD for tech-support, they provide no information on these Sata controllers, I have, however, contacted my motherboard's manufacturer.  If anybody knows how to get in touch with AMD/ATI support, that would also probably be helpful.

I think I've got it working now; thanks for everyone's help.
There was in fact some BIOS settings that I needed to change hidden under "southbridge configuration".  I needed to enable AHCI and disable "SATA / IDE combined controller" or something like that.
I'm also having some trouble with my fstab setup since the hotswap sata drives are in a raid1 array, and the system doesn't like it when I boot without it present; I'll see if I can figure out a way around that; if not it probably belongs in another thread, anyway,.
    Again, thanks for your help!

  • Bootcamp not recognizing Macintosh HD?

I am running Windows 7 in a Bootcamp partition.
In windows explorer, where it lists all your drives/USBs/CDs/etc. it will list everything I have except for the Macintosh HD drive. Is there any to get it to recognize it?
This is especially a hassle since I often copy data from my Mac drive to Windows withouth going back and forth on a USB.

That's because you haven't installed Boot Camp drivers.
By default, Windows can't read and write in HFS+, the filesystem that OS X uses for their volumes. The Boot Camp drivers include a HFS driver that allows you to read the OS X volume from Windows, so you should install them. Apart from that, it will install drivers for all the hardware you have, making Windows more stable and everything will work better.
The process to install the Boot Camp drivers depends on the OS X version you are using. If you are using Mac OS X Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6), insert the Mac OS X DVD and install the drivers from there (you have to insert the Mac OS X DVD when you are in Windows).
If you are using OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, you have to download the drivers. First, start in OS X holding the X key while your computer is starting. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant, tick the option to download the Windows support software and follow the steps (you need a USB drive to burn the Boot Camp drivers in). Finally, start in Windows and install the drivers, so you will be able to read the OS X volume from your Windows Explorer

  • Firewire Target Function Not Recognizing Partitioned Drive

My hard drive is partitioned and one partition contains my iTunes, iPhoto and other applications. When I upgraded to my new iMac, I used the Firewire Target function but the partition I needed wasn't recognized. Should I give up and get myself to a Genius Bar or is there something else I could try?

Hello! Why don't you consider buying a firewire external case and put the old drive in the case. You can access your data and after you've got it all on the new machine you can use the old drive as a clone for emergency startup and repairs if it's large enough to clone your new system onto. Starting with a new machine you're probably better off starting from scratch and adding your data to the new virgin system. Tom

i have tried rebooting and verifying my disk and repairing and there's no progress or change.. any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Hi nicoczyz,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The steps you have taken to troubleshoot the issue of not being able to create a Windows partition are good ones.  The resource below provides another possible scenario that may be the issue here.  It's not the exact error message as your screen shot and the article references Windows 8, but the troubleshooting steps are still relevant:
Boot Camp: Partition alert message when using Boot Camp Assistant - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203913
This symptom may occur if you have partitions on your startup drive in addition to the following:
    one OS X partition
    one Boot Camp partition
one OS X Recovery partition (normally not visible in Disk Utility)
If Boot Camp Assistant detects a Microsoft Reserved (MSR) or Windows Recovery partition on your hard drive, you may see this message.  The Boot Camp Assistant cannot continue until the extra partition is removed.
Microsoft Reserved and Windows Recovery partitions can be identified as unmounted partitions with the name "disk0s3" or "disk0s5" in Disk Utility. To remove these partitions, use OS X Disk Utility.
Important: Deleting the wrong partition can cause data loss. Be sure to back up both your OS X files and Windows files before attempting this procedure.
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    Click the Partition tab.
Look for an extra partition named “disk0s3" or “disk0s5”. Select this partition so it is highlighted.
Click the Remove Partition button ( - ).
Make sure the partition you selected is noted in the sheet that appears.
    Click Remove.
When Disk Utility finishes, close the Disk Utility window to quit the app. The Boot Camp Assistant can now be used to reinstall or update your existing Windows partition.
Set up a Windows partition on your Mac - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204009
Before you can install Windows your Mac, you need to create and then format a Windows partition.
Setting up a Windows partition is one of the steps for installing Windows on your Mac. Use Boot Camp Assistant to create the partition, then use the Windows installer to format it.Create the Windows partition
To create the Windows partition, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the onscreen instructions. Boot Camp Assistant is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
Use only Boot Camp Assistant to create the partition. If you partition with another app and then use Boot Camp Assistant, the drive with the partition could be erased.
Boot Camp Assistant creates the partition only if the drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and doesn't already have a partition created by Boot Camp Assistant. If Boot Camp Assistant sees other partitions, it may warn you that the startup disk cannot be partitioned.
If you need help determining the best size of the partition, refer to your Windows documentation. For Windows 8, the partition should be at least 30 GB.
If Boot Camp Assistant says that verification failed, repair the drive using Disk Utility. If that doesn't help, back up your drive and reinstall OS X.
The drive you're partitioning must be an internal drive. If you have more than one internal drive and the drive you're partitioning is not in the first drive bay, remove the drives in the lower-numbered bays, then reinstall them after installing Windows. A Fusion Drive is treated as one drive, and the Windows partition is created on the disk drive instead of the flash drive (SSD).
    Format the Windows partition
Use the Windows installer to format the Windows partition that Boot Camp Assistant created. When you're asked where to install Windows, select the partition named "BOOTCAMP":
Then click Format to begin formatting the partition using the NTFS file system. If you're installing Windows 7 or Windows 8.0, you won't see the Format option until you click "Drive options (advanced)":
If the installer says that it couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one, disconnect any Thunderbolt storage devices connected to your Mac. Reconnect them after installing Windows.
If you see “No Boot Disk Attached” when starting up your Mac, the Windows partition probably isn't formatted correctly. Remove the partition, then repeat the previous steps for creating and formatting the partition.
    Modify the Windows partition
Remove the partition, change its size, or change its name.
    Remove the partition
Use Boot Camp Assistant to safely remove Windows and the Windows partition from your Mac, restoring your startup drive to a single Mac partition. You may want to back up your information first, because removing the partition erases all of the data it contains.
    Open Boot Camp Assistant.
Select “Remove Windows 7 or later version," then click Continue.
    Do one of the following:
If your Mac has a single internal disk, click Restore.
If your Mac has multiple internal disks, select the Windows disk, select “Restore disk to a single OS X partition,” then click Continue.
Change the size of the partition
It's not possible to change the size of the partition after installing Windows, but you can remove the partition and create a new partition of the correct size. Don't try to resize your partition with Windows or a third-party app.Change the name of the partition
You can rename the Windows partition from within Windows. For instructions, refer to your Windows documentation.

  • "Your disk could not be partitioned" error in bootcamp

I'm attempting to load Windows 7 home premium 64-bit on an early 2011 15" MBP with Bootcamp 5.0.2 and am getting the error "Your disk could not be partitioned. An error occurred while partitioning disk." No other information leads me to understand the problem. Does anyone know anything about this error?
I have a brand new hard drive from apple after the old one failed, a new logic board and trackpad, so i doubt that it is a hardware issue.

  • Running Windows 7 via Bootcamp - USB Device Not recognized.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit via Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro (2012 non-retina display). USB devices are not being recognized within Windows 7 (USB Device Not Recognized error).
I have done some research and tried a few possible solutions but nothing has worked so far. Here is what I have tried:
    - Uninstalling all USB drivers within windows and then restarting to let Windows re-install the drivers.
    - Uninstalling Intel 3.0 USB Host Contoller and restarting Windows.
    - Repairing the drivers using Bootcamp setup.
    - Uninstalling bootcamp and re-installing bootcamp services.
The USB drives are working fine within OS X, just having issues in Windows.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

3.0 is on your OS X DVD. Clearly spelled out in the guide in Boot Camp Assistant, and here -
www.apple.com/support/bootcamp : manuals, look for 10.6 pdf version.
3.0 is pre-requisite for any other
OS X comes with Boot Camp Assistant and you access 3.0 drivers while in Windows.
