  • Windows not showing up in Startup Disk

Just updated a 15" Retina to 10.8.3 and also ran the SMC 1.1 update. Now my bootcamp windows partition does not show up in the Startup Disk any more. I can see it in the Finder and I can reboot and hold down option key to boot into Windows, but for some reason it isn't showing up in Startup Disk Preference.

yeah, I had a feeling it might be Tuxera causing it, wanted to see if there was another solution other than uninstalling it.
I tried disabling it in the pref pane and that didn't fix the issue, so I'm assuming it would need to be uninstalled.
As long as I am able to boot into Windows when needed (which isn't very often), I'm not too concerned.  Its a little inconvenient to have to hold Option during startup to do it, but it works.
Whats annoying too is that when using BootCamp control panel in Windows to restart into OSX, it boots into the emergency partition for Lion instead of Lion.  So, guess holding Option at startup is the only option both ways!
    Thanks for the help.

  • BootCamp not showing up in startup discs!

I have sucessfully partitioned my macbook pro (thanks Ds Store!) and now I have another problem, When booting up I hold down option to choose my startup disc all that shows up is macintosh HD and recovery, BOOTCAMP is not showing up, even though it showes up in devices please help me!!

Did you actually Install a version of Windows into that Boot Camp Partition? It doesn't sound like you did.
You'll need a copy of Windows 7 or 8, 64bit, and a valid license key code for whatever version you plan on installing.

  • Windows Boot Camp partition not showing up on Startup Disk in Snow Leopard

    Dear Fellow Mac Heads,
I have Windows 7 RTM installed as Boot Camp in one partition and Snow Leopard 10.6.1 installed in another. In Windows, the Boot Camp icon shows everything (i.e. Network, Windows 7, and Mac OSX Snow Leopard) so I can switch back and forth as I please. But in Mac OS, the Startup Disk menu under Systems Preferences only shows the Mac partition and Network. Windows 7 is nowhere to be found. I can't even do the OPTION on keyboard boot to get into Windows. I have to shutdown the machine, restart while holding onto OPTION key before all partitions show up. What's wrong with this picture? Is this happening to anyone else? Thanks in advance.

Maybe you are using something like NTFS-3G?
Maybe this thread has something for you...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2146363&tstart=30
Oh, sorry I just noticed that you have read or posted in that thread, but didn't like the answer?
You get strange results with many 3rd party products. I don't use Bootcamp at all. Parallels 4 works very well with Snow Leopard and none of this booting back and forth hassle. Windows is just for research, use the Mac side for performance.

  • Disk Not Showing Up in Startup Disk

I have a mid-2011 MacBook Pro with two partitions on the internal hard drive. One has 10.8.5. One has 10.6.8.
When I boot from the 10.6.8 Snow Leopard disk the partition with 10.8.5 no longer shows up as a bootable volume in System Preferences>Startup Disk. It just disappeared. I can reboot and hold down the option key and then I can choose either partition and boot into it.
But does anyone know how I can get Startup Disk to recognize the 10.8.5 partition again? Any suggestions?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Are you using FileVault on your 10.8.5 partition?

  • The Airplay Icon is not showing up on My Taskbar After Upgrading to Mountain Lion

Please help.  I have 2nd generation Apple TV and a 2011 Imac but the Airplay Icon will not show up on Taskbar after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

Finally after trying to uninstall/reinstall (no luck!)
    I'm on Windows 7 64 bit.  iTunes 10.7   And I have a solution:
If found a thread about IPv6.
I followed the same directions on Windows 7 64 bit and it worked.
Disable IPv6 on _all_ of your IP ethernet adapters.
That includes Virtual Machines (VMWare... yes those too), including IPv6 for wireless.
Close iTunes.  Start iTunes.  Works.  Airplay Icon is back.
It looks like All of the AirPlay devices may have to be re-setup.  At the very least rebooted.
I found that I had to clompletely erase my DHCP addresses from my (non Apple) router.. and that fixed it.  Finally.
Even though this is for the Mac... I believe they are onto something.   Original thread link:

  • Some videos are not showing in Apple TV playlist after upgrade to 6.0.  Can play on Macbook itunes and using airplay to Apple TV.  Anybody else have this issue?

Some videos are not showing in my Apple TV playlists after upgrade to 6.0.  They were there prior to upgrade and I can play on Macbook itunes and also using using airplay to Apple TV.  Anybody else have this issue?

Ok, so I'll try again.  Thank you for the idea of looking in Home Videos, which is where all my "lost" videos are listed.
Is there a way to get them to display under their appropriate genre in the Movie section, which is where they all were listed prior to the os6 update?  It does me no good to have hundreds of movies categorized in iTunes via a genre only to have them appear in Home Videos on ATV.  These are not "home movies." They are legit mp4 movies that worked great under v5.

  • Startup failing after upgrade to Yosemite

After my update to yosemite my computer doesn’t startup anymore. It only shows the grey Apple logo and the “startup bar” is not progressing anymore. I now always have to perform a hard shut-down and do a re-start, and only in the second or third attempt it will start up "normally". The computer also has become very slow and unresponsive and takes a long time to start up after signing in.
To solve the problem (I hoped) I have done a complete clean install of Yosemite and thereafter installing my old programs using the Migration assistent. This did't help. Just now I have made an extra partition and only installed Yosemite on this partition. The same problem is still showing and the computer is still not starting up. I also experience complete kernel panics, where the message is different every time (I have pictures available of a number of kernel panics).
I still have a partition with Mavericks which starts up just fine, so the problem doesn't seem to be my computer (although WiFi stopped working some 2 months ago). I now performed a EtreCheck with results listed as below. Anyone an idea what is wrong?

Off hand it looks like a botched upgrade. I suggest a reinstall from scratch:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Yosemite: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Is anyone having trouble using parenthesis to show negative numbers in excel after upgrading to Yosemite?

for security reasons I cannot give you the Access rules page. FYI the logging is enabled
However in the home page , when I click on show rule it says the following

I refreshed the screen and no change. Welcome any advise.

  • Purchased apps list not showing up on iPhone 4S after upgrade to iOS6

I have a 4S and reloaded from the factory image after having experienced the wi-fi problem.  Now I can't see the list of my previously purchased apps so I can re-download them. I ave tred several times with no success.
I also lost the capability of seeing all my previously uploaded Photostream pictures, which I can see from my iPad no problem
Any ideas on either issue? Thanks for your assistance.
    Joe

I had exactly the same problem, and after exhausting all the other generic tips out there, the following worked for me:
Plug the phone into power, and restart by holding down the power and home buttons. Leave the phone plugged in to recharge to 100%. It appears to reset the battery calibration and things are back to normal.
The key symptom was the phone restarting or powering down even though the battery indicator was at 20% or better.

  • Why is my HD not shown as a startup disk?

My macbook pro died on me, since it has stopped going into safe sleep (hibernate). Only this time I couldnt start it up again, it only gave me the question mark. When I start up from the CD and check the drive with Disk Utility everything is ok. But when I want to set my HD as startup disk I can not see it anywhere. I have run all the checks possible with Disk utility but still it does not show as a startup disk. It doesnt show either on desktop, but maybe thats normal in CD-mode. I would rather not have to reformat the drive if there is a way to get around this.

    So to verify...
You ran "Repair Disk" and "Repair Permissions" from the install DVD's Disk Utilities?
If so I assume no troubles found?
What was the drives S.M.A.R.T. status? This could be found in Disk Utilities First Aid.
Try booting into the Startup Manager by pressing and holding the option key during boot. This will launch the graphical Startup Manager where you can select the drive you wish to boot from. This is if your drive shows up, which would be the norm.
If that does not work then you can also try booting while holding the X-key.
If these do not work then you probably have drive that is dying on ya. Yeah you could format and rebuild or even do an Archive and install which may work for ya, but be prepared to replace the drive.

  • Unable to print from iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite?

Whenever I want to print from iPhoto, the application on the IMac becomes unresponsive and will not print. This all started after upgrading to Yosemite. My printer is updated, so now I have no idea how to make this work again. Any help would be great.

OK and I see the issue is only with iPhoto. The only thing I can think of is resetting the printing system and then re-installing the printer(s). DO NOT use any of the printer's software for installing, simply follow the directions for adding a printer in Mac Basics: Printing in OS X - Apple Support.
To reset the printing system, open System Preferences - Printers & Scanners - locate the device in the window on the left and right click the offending printer and select Reset Printing System....
After you have reset the printing system and re-added the device then shutdown (not restart) the computer for about 30 seconds and restart and then test.

  • How can I reformat my hard drive if erase and partition don't work in disk utility and I get an error when I try to erase and install from the Leopard install disk?  I have had several kernel panics, but the volume shows up in startup disk.

I have had several kernel panics on my iBook G4; the panic message shows up just after the desktop appears. Although the startup volume shows up in Startup Disk, the installation disk reports an error when I attempt an erase and install. Disk utility is unable either to erase or partition the hard drive. The hard drive shows up in disk utility, but the startup volume doesn’t  HELP!!!

Do you have the original system discs that came with the iBook when it was new?
Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
Erasing the disc and installing Mac OS X 10.5 will result in loss of the other applications (such as the iLife applications) which came pre-installed on the iBook.

  • 1 TB External WD Drive Not Showing Up In Finder/Disk Utility/Terminal

    Hey everyone,
First time posting here so forgive any mistakes. I recently purchased a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, 15-inch, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 from Apple. Previously, I had the late 2007 Macbook Pro model until a friend spilled some water on it and corrupted the motherboard. Regardless, I was using a Western Digital 1 TB external hard-drive to keep all my documents and files backed up, manually, alongside the time machine feature built in. (This was not connected at the time of the spill, and was not thereafter, so rule out water damage) During the period between when the old one died, (earlier this year May-2013), I kept the drive safely in storage because I knew I would want to transfer my 100gb music librairy along with my photos and other files when I finally got the new one later that year (was waiting for the hardwell processors to come out for the MBP). Just recently after this purchase I tried to connect the drive to my new MacBook Pro but it was not showing up. I have scowered the online forums for trouble shooting tips and took all the steps to no avail. I have replaced the data-drive cable with a new one, connected it to the wall outlet in case it wasn't drawing enough power from the laptop, among a few other simple tricks, but still it would not show up in either Disk Utility or the terminal command to show all active drives, all that's there is the internal Macintosh HD one. It was a fairly quiet drive-however I do notice there is not much of a 'spin-up' noise or any sound of it begining to work when turned on or plugged in, so I'm worried there might be something wrong with the drive itself. Nonetheless, the power signal continues to flash but still no recognition from the computer that it's there, so I'm certain it's not reading it. I have tried on my other buddys Mac and it is the same situation, as well as my roommates PC (which I figured wouldnt anyway because of how its formatted, but it was worth a shot) I am not sure which avenue to take next as I have all my files and college work that I still need access to on the drive, and would really hate to have to format the drive or anything drastic as such. Possibly there is a part I can buy and replace myself to make it start up and spin again, but I am not sure what that part could be or if there is an easier solution out there.
I would greatly appreciate any information or help on this problem, thank you all for the time and advie.

Clicking from a hard drive is bad.  Does the external drive have an external power supply?  If it does I would use this supply.
