  • How can I install windows XP in bootcamp on lion OS?

Whenever I try bootcamp for Windows XP it only asks for Windows 7 and do not recognize Windows XP disc. Drivers are also not available for XP.
    Please help.

Can i install windows XP on Lion?
Sure, any VM should be fine.
XP reached EOL and no security updates or patches anymore from MS of course and with all the inherent issues.

  • After bootcamp, OSX Lion won't boot.

I tried to create a bootcamp partition on my 2009 8 core Mac Pro. I run the bootcamp utility, it partitions the desired drive (tried partitioning my SSD main drive, and also a spare 7200 rmp internal drive). It partitions, then shuts down. It boots to the windows loader, tells me my bootcamp drive isn't able to install windows. So I reformat the drive (inside the windows loader). Does its thing, and loads windows.
Windows starts, I can play around in it. I use the DVD that was created (has the Apple windows drivers). Once that installs, screen goes blank. I can tell its trying to do something. I have a Quadro 4000 Mac video card, and after cleaning the drive, I work my way to this step again, except I went to Nvidia's website, download and install drivers. Same thing happens. That's issue 1, inside of windows.
The main issue, my Mac Pro will no longer boot to Lion. I hold option, brings up the boot drive option. I choose my Mac OSX drive, then it does nothing. I end up having to erase the drive and reload OSX, and use time machine to put back to normal.
Windows works just fine with parralels, but my intention was to bootcamp, then direct parralels to use the bootcamp for virtual machine.
Every time I've gone to reload the osx, I've reformatted the windows drive, because once I tried installing drivers, I never could get a picture on my monitors. If I clicked the mouse buttons, the pointer would show on occasion, then disappear.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Thanks for the fast reply. Ill try this again. Did this the first time, but wouldn't boot again. I've since done a,fresh install of Lion, and it created the proper recovery partition. I didn't have this before, because I cloned my old drive, when I upgraded to an SSD drive. Didn't know about the recover partition. Ill try again, and see if I can get it to work.
Just need to figure out the driver situation, with my Nvidia Quadro Mac video. Not worth trying again, if I have to use default generic video drivers.

  • Bootcamp and Lion

If Bootcamp was previously installed prior to upgrading to Lion which does not support this Bootcamp version, am I able to delete/uninstall that version of Bootcamp and reinstall a newer version with new partitions?  What is the best method to do this?  Thanks!

Ain't broken so why fix it (or go through buying and installing 7)?
am I able to delete/uninstall that version of Bootcamp and reinstall a newer version with new partitions? What is the best method to do this?
You are not technically uninstalling Boot Camp, you are or would be doing a clean install or upgrade to 7, and then install/add BC 4.01 drivers.
There is a BC control panel and Apple calls it a Program. A catch all and misused term.
    Windows-on-Mac would be better.
Leave as is. Even XP can be left as is usually as well.
You should think about leaving as is, or how to do an upgrade or clean install.

  • Bootcamp in lion

Hi I just got my 15" macbook pro on wednesday and I noticed it came with no software disc.  The first thing I wanted to do was install windows 7 via bootcamp, but the Windows support software will not download.  I have tried many times and it will never get past around 25% and twice it just told me it couldnt be downloaded.  Is this an issue on lion?  is there an alternate download site for the drivers I need?

As of Lion everything is downloaded from Apple via the internet so you won't have any disks anymore. Lion has an invisible "Repair Partition" that you boot into to repair or redownload the software. (or burn it to a disk so you don't have to again)
If you click on the empty desktop and click on the Help menu in the upper Apple menu bar and enter Repair Partition it should explain it more.
Make sure you don't have any proxie settings in the Network preferences checked as that is one possible reason it seems.
Apple servers are extremely slow and finicky for some people (like me) so you may have to keep trying until you get it all.

  • Upgrading to Bootcamp 4 (lion and Win7 64bits)

Hey there folks! So much time without asking something ^^
I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade Bootcamp onto a Windows Partition without having to re-install Windows. As far as I have red in the Bootcamp Appple Support webpage, upgrading to Bootcamp 4 requires a clean install of Windows 7, but I don't want to go through that time taking process. Any of you have been upgraded to Bootcamp 4 over an existing Windows 7 installation without doing a clean install of Windows?
    Thanks for the help, guys!
    Ø3

No need for a clean install.
Use the BootCamp Assistant in OSX Lion to download the "Windows Support Software" (aka BootCamp Drivers version 4.x).
I prefer to use an USB-Stick for the download and save.
Boot into Windows, uninstall the previous BootCamp Drivers first then connect the USB-Stick and run the Setup.exe
It is best to either have a backup of your Windows before updating, but at minimum have/make a System Restore Point before.

  • How do i install using bootcamp without lion install disk ?, how do i install using bootcamp without lion install disk ?

i want to download windows to play windowx games but when i bought my i mac it came with lion on it already so ho do i download windows without the lion disk?

You need to watch more updated videos. Do as I suggested earlier and read the documentation. All is explained including how you download the drivers. The video you were watching must be a few years old and well out of date.

  • Bootcamp on Lion--but which Windows 7 ?

I'm finally considering a bootcamp install of Windows 7 and am completely overwhelmed by the plethora of different Windows 7 versions available... Professional? Home? Ultimate? 32-bit? 64-bit?
I intend to do this mostly to play games—at this point, specifically Rift and EvE.
    My system:
    late 2009 27" iMac
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
    OS X 10.7.2
with well over 460 GB HD space to spare.
If anyone could take a moment and give me their recommendation on which Windows flavor I should choose, I would greatly appreciate the help!
    Thanks!

    I'm just a home/gamer type Windows user.
I have W7 Home Premium 64bit and works fine for me. I was worried about some of my older stuff but haven't had an issue yet, i've had it about 8 months now.
W7 Pro (for $100 more) which I think is just Home Premium with XP built in so you can go into XP mode to run some older stuff that won't work in W7. And from what I can figure out Ultimate, etc, is set up more for business's.
Windows 64bit you can use ALL the available ram and 32bit is maxed out between 2 and 3 gigs no matter how much ram you have installed. Most of the Retail/Upgrade versions have 32bit and 64bit installers combined so you can use either one. If the applications are written for a 64bit OS then it will run that much faster.
    My 2 cents worth anyway....

  • Will I lose Bootcamp when Lion arrives?

I want to install bootcamp but I'm afraid losing documents in July...

you can expect updates to any 3rd party program and drivers of course.
And, FWIW, sometimes install a new OS over the older has resulted in trouble with Boot Camp or disk drives. A new OS almost surely will introduce new partition changes under the hood.
Even erase and reinstalling 10.6. has caught some 'off guard' if you will so to speak.

  • Bootcamp and OS X Lion

Would bootcamp be affected after installing OS X Lion?

I had a number of problems with bootcamp and Lion.
After finally getting Lion on my system I had problems accessing Windows.
I could hold 'Alt' button and see the Windows Drive.  When I selected it, the start up began then the system went to re-boot.  'Round and 'round I went.  Not even Safe-Mode would get me all the way in.
    Now it is fixed.
I had to take my Windoze XP disk and do a repair.  (please back up)
**There is a particular way I had to do this, so I didn't lose my data and settings inside Windows.
    1. Turned off computer
    2. Turned on and got to the Boot Camp screen where I could select which drive I wanted
    3. Inserted my XP disk
    4. The XP disk becomes a 'selectable' start-up drive
    5. Selected the XP disk to start
    6. When prompted to 'Repair' or 'Install' - Selected 'INSTALL' - NOT 'Repair'.
    7. At the install screen, a search was done to see if Windows XP was already installed
    8. When it found that XP was installed, I was given the option to 'install' or 'repair' the one already there -  *Now* I selected 'R' to Repair.
I noticed that right away many files began to be deleted.  I was very worried.  Then, it took about 45 mins - to one hour - to re-install the files.
After a re-start you must enter in your Windows Authenticity Code so be sure you have it!  After a another re-boot or two, I was able to open in Windows normally.  All of my personal files, documents, programs, and settings were intact and fine.
I had to re-download IE8, Service Pack 3, and another hours worth of updates, since my XP disk only had Service Pack 2 on it.
Overall, I'd say this was the most miserable experience I've had with any sort of Apple update.  There were no warnings or instructions or help for the potential problems encountered with Lion.  They just 'threw us the lions' and said fend for yourselves!
Of the many, many posts I've read (trying to fix all my *update* issues), it seem that most people with problems, who called support, have reported that support instructed them to wipe the HD and start over!  Really??  Thats a solution?  You sound like Windows.
I am not an expert so any advice above may destroy your computer.

  • I have snow leopard with bootcamp what will happen if I create a new partition and install Lion

query as subject line - I was planning to create a new partition using disk utility and installing lion on that - I am aware Lion will Create a recovery partition in addition - so is it possible to have Snow with it's Bootcamp and Lion with it's recovery on my imac purchased jan 2012?
Subsequent question although I purchased Lion from the mac store can I jump straight to Mountain Lion (if I purchase it) from Snow leopard?

If you plan to create a third partition, then you will lose control over your Boot Camp partition and ability to boot Windows. You cannot have three partitions as you desire.
You can upgrade the Snow Leopard system to Lion or Mountain Lion. You can obtain another HDD and install Lion or Mountain Lion on the external drive.
Yes, you can purchase and download Mountain Lion to upgrade the Snow Leopard system.

  • Lion and bootcamp for Win7

I have been trying to install Win7 on a new bootcamp under Lion. I had WinXP w/Snow Leopard, lost it...I need a Windows partition, Bootcamp formats the drive in FAT but Win7 requires NTSF. I read the FAQs & it said to restart the process & let Windows installer format the disk, well, how do I do that? I have gone over this 3x & I always end up with a Bootcamp formatted in FAT.
Since the format was wrong for Win7, I tried to install XP, but no go...oh yes, how do I find the version of Bootcamp I have?
    Thanks for your help.

Troubleshoot Compatibility Mode is all you need to do, clicking on "BootCamp64.msi"
The hard part is installing Windows 7 64-bit.and that you did.
Some keys don't work the same like eject. Just have to deal with some minor differences.
All you need is to install in Windows. 3.0 and update to 3.3
An "F" for not just post the drivers for each Mac to download while in Windows manually.
So, you need the drivers on a drve and folder that you can write to while in Windows to change Properties - Compatibility Mode and you should be off and running.
XP 64-bit was much much harder.
And yes, wait on Lion six months maybe. Install Lion on another drive and clone it back can work and not upset the partitions and Windows you had.
Format to NTFS from FAT is spelled out, and really the PDF should be printed out, if to only avoid questions and repeating the same tip 100s of times.

  • Problem with Winclone and Windows 7 Bootcamp

I previously used Winclone to backup and restore onto the windows 7 partition when I had Snow Leopard. Now on Lion, Winclone won't work, and of course my bootcamp was not restored with the upgrade. I've tried partitioning the mac HD into 2 drives, the original for lion, and one for leopard, and then installing bootcamp, in order to then use the win clone on the Leopard side to restore my data into Windows 7. However, this appears to not be working at all.
Is this at all possible to do?
If not, is there any other way to restore my winclone disk image to my bootcamp from Lion to Windows 7? I didn't do a formal backup on the Windows side, so this is my only shot to regain EVERYTHING I had on the Windows side.
    PLEASE HELP!!

    Hi Pat
You have tried the obvious way to do this and I commend you.
The only other way that might work is to use another Mac with SL on it
and Winclone , and connect to your other mac by Firewire Target mode.
If your blank partition shows you just might have a chance.
    Worth a try.
    Cheers Tomi
