Bootcamp or Virtual software for Windows 7 ?

Hello all,
For a number of years I have used either Parallels, and the last few years --- Sun Virtual Machine to run W2K Professional and XP Professional on my Mac Core2Duo with 3 GB memory -- all has worked great.
Now -- I want to get some experience with Window7 - looking to buy Professional version. I did the Windows 7 compatibility test - it passed in Virtual Machine, just complained about the video that I would not have full compatability, etc....
Just wondering if anyone can offer some opinions ----
Would it be better to run Windows 7 Professional in Bootcamp --- this way the OS would get the full benefit of my hardware --- core2duo, 2.16 Ghz, 3GB memory, 120 GB HDD with 70 GB free ??
Or --- should I gamble and try running in virtual mode with Sun Virtual machine ?
It really does not matter if I boot up in Windows or Mac --- I will use the OS that I need at that time, I have no need to use both OS at the same time, that would not be an issue. I only use Windows when I need to access some online classes that I take where you "need" Windows, or --- with 7 if I want to "play around" with the OS. Otherwise --- I use Mac about 75% of the time.
Thanks,
Bob

I find that Windows 7 doesn't look that great without it's Aero theme, which is quite demanding in terms of the performance of your video card. Now, the issue with virtual machines is that they do not take full benefit of hardware acceleration for graphics. As a result, Win7 will be sluggish with Aero on if you run it under Parallels or other virtualization software. However, if you install it under Bootcamp, Win7 will perform much nicer. There may be one obstacle, though... that's free hard drive space. I believe, WIn7 would need at least 30 Gb on its partition, which will leave you only with only 40 Gb free under Mac OS. If you run it as a virtual machine, then it will be easier to redistribute free space between Mac OS and Win7, but either way, it may feel like paying $100 in nickels.
I would go for Win7 under bootcamp, play with it, and then delete it and install WinXP under virtualization software.

  • HT1899 Hi There. Is there a version of BootCamp support software for Windows 8 Customer preview?

Hi There. Is there a version of BootCamp support software for Windows 8 Customer preview as yet?

8 is now Release Preview, not CP, and there is the final release 90-day trial Enterprise which is all cleaned up and ready to use.
So at least someone should be going over with this by now. Things I had that did not work right and unsupported with the Previews are working, but some, a few, need updates.
I don't think most of the issues people have with Mac running 8 are deal breakers or can't be worked around, maybe 2-3 items and heck even 'supported' - if it worked plug and play and no issues... the forum would be dead silent, but it isn't.
Not going to do it again but I have tried to post a consolidated of trackpad, graphics, audio, BT, and other things that get mentioned.
8 won't be ready to buy for full two months.

  • Issue while Installing Oracle Data Access Software for Windows

    All,
Iam getting the following error while installing Oracle Data Access Software for windows. Iam installing in WindowsXP, with Oracle 9i release 9.2.0.7.0 DB and client in the same Box.
    It shows
The Specified Key key was not found while trying to GetValue
    * Stop installation of all Products
    * Stop installtion of this componenent only.
Kindly let me know why this error is showing up.

Most probably you have hit this issue:
"If you have more than one Oracle Home installed on the same machine (e.g. Oracle8i client and Oracle9i Release 2 client), use the Oracle Home Selector to run your applications with Oracle9i Release 2 client. "
As documented on the Oracle Data Access Software for Windows. Release 9.2.0.4.0

  • Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows

Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows how can I download them with out the install cd?

Or for the same price you can order a new Snow Leopard disk. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
That would give you Boot Camp 3.0 drivers. With Snow Leopard and Boot Camp 3.0 you can install Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. With Lion and Boot Camp 4.0 you can only install Windows 7. If you install Lion with Boot Camp 3 and XP or Vista already on it it will work.

  • Synchronizing software for Windows 7 and Windows Mobile

    Hi All,
I am trying to synchronize my PC with a Windows Mobile device (Scanner). When I googled I came to know Microsoft Mobile Device Center 6.1 is used to synchronize Windows Vista with many devices. But I am looking for a software which can synchronize my Windows
    7 PC and Mobile Device.
Can someone suggest me on this. It's pretty urgent.
Please refer to the System Requirements - Supported Devices section in the url mentioned below. This is for Windows Vista. Similar to this I am expecting a software for Windows 7.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=3182&hash=brh0xPqEh%2fYvZrNW0SOms8%2bsu3y9ux3a7FJ82ZE%2fKs5tbE5ltglLsiv%2fE1zCxMJLIpRUpN8wayd5sLmhjkXdag%3d%3d

    Hi,
Regarding sync issue between mobile device and the Windows 7 system, we could accomplished it with device stage.
    Description:
There are two primary ways to sync a mobile phone, portable music player, or other mobile device with your computer. You can install the sync software that many manufacturers include with their devices, or you can use the new Device Stage feature in this
version of Windows if your device supports this feature.
Device Stage lets you sync music, contacts, calendars, and other files and information with a compatible mobile device. It also allows you to perform other device-related tasks that vary depending on the device, such as creating ringtones for a mobile phone.
What files and information you can sync depends on the type of device you have and what it supports. For example, you may be able to sync contacts and calendars with a smartphone, but not with a portable music player.
More information, we could take a look at the below links:
Sync music, pictures, contacts, and calendars with a mobile device
    Device management
Besides, some folks told that Winodows Mobile Device Center 6.1.6965 will work and sync well on Windows 7 Professional, and to install WMDC, we should have Windows Media Player running first.
Please take a look at the below thread:
Windows 7 and Windows Mobile 6.5
    Hope this may help

I am currently using 6.2.2 palm trial  software without syncing to a device. i am afraid to use this software in future if i am not able to sync with any other device.

I too have been using Palm OS software forever, and upgraded my device to a Tungsten E2 several years ago. I just installed the software for Windows 7 64 bit (version 6.2) and all works without problems. The only thing I lost was the color coding of the customized categories I'd created. Synching works with either Bluetooth OR on my older PC's I can keep using the cable synch and original software version (4.1.4) that I've always been using. Not sure it this reassures you or not . . .

  • Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking and Hyper-V.

Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOuoIWzmdE
Hi thanks for reading. Now I may well have my terminology incorrect here so I will try to explain  as best I can and apologies from the start.
    It’s a bit of both Hyper-v and Server 2012R2.
I am setting up a lab with Server 2012 R2. I have several physical network cards that I have teamed called “HostSwitchTeam” from those I have made several Virtual Network Adaptors such as below
    examples.
New-VMSwitch "MgmtSwitch" -MinimumBandwidthMode weight -NetAdaptername "HostSwitchTeam" -AllowManagement $false
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Vswitch" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Cluster" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
When I install Hyper-V and it comes to adding a virtual switch during installation it only shows the individual physical network cards and the
HostSwitchTeam for selection.  When installed it shows the Microsoft Network Multiplexor Driver as the only option.
Is this correct or how does one use the Vswitch made above and incorporate into the Hyper-V so a weight can be put against it.
Still trying to get my head around Vswitches,VMNetworkadapters etc so somewhat confused as to the way forward at this time so I may have missed the plot altogether!
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi P.J.E,
    >>I have teams so a bit confused as to the adapter bindings and if the teams need to be added or just the vEthernet Nics?.
    Nic 1,2
    HostVMSwitchTeam
    Nic 3,4,5
             HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    >>The adapter Binding settings are:
    HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    V-Curric
    Nic 3
    Nic 4
    Nic 5
    V-Livemigration
    HostVMSwitch
    Nic 1
    Nic 2
    V-iSCSI
    V-HeartBeat
Based on my understanding of the description , "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
HostVMSwitch " are teamed NIC .
You can think of them as two physical NICs (do not use NIC 1,2,3,4,5 any more , there are just two NICs "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
    HostVMSwitch").
    V-Curric,
    V-Livemigration , V-iSCSI ,
V-HeartBeat are just VNICs of host  (you can change their name then check if the virtual switch name will be changed )

Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums.   I just tried the link that you had and was able to succesfully download activesync for XP.  Try it again, if it still does not work try going to google and do a search for "download activesync 4.5" which should give multipul options for the download.  If that does not work then the problem is on your end and you may need to talk to a computer repair shop.

You'll probably won't find any. Because right now here at work we are using Reports 6i and when we upgraded to Windows XP we have to download a patch just to make it work in.

  • Clarification on Bootcamp 3.1 install for Windows 7 Support

    Hello all,
I'm looking for some expert opinon on how the BootCamp 3.1 update is supposed to be performed.
As some 3rd party websites state that these updates need to be applied prior to the Windows 7 install. While Apple's online documentation talks about installing 7 and then doing the update.
The reason why I think that apple's process is more accurate is because the 64-Bit driver download is an ".exe" extension. However before I do anything with my MacBook Pro I wanted to find out what others are doing for this OS install process.
If you could clarify the process it would be appreicated as the Software Update feature in Mac OS X doesn't seem to find any updates related to BootCamp.
    Thanks in advance

So what you are saying is that even though the bootcamp utility exists and has already allocated my spot for Windows 7 on Snow Leopard Boot camp doesn't exist thus I can't get the 3.1 update yet?
I'm very familiar with computing terms, and setting up devices... However no documentation really clarifies the whole 3.1 process. All that I can see from apple's perspective is to allocate the bootcamp space. Run the windows 7 install, and then use the snow leopard update and the assoicated drivers (32/64 bit).
However even with the Mac OS X online, I can't figure out how you get that update as each site talks differently.
If someone can clarify exactly from an out of box Mac, to snow leopard boot camp allocation and windows 7 install for these 3.1 updates it would greatly help with my confusion points here.
    Thanks!
