BOOTCAMP partition isn't recognized during Windows 7 installation

I am using a 13" Macbook Pro (Mid-2010) model running Mac OS X 10.6.6 and using Boot Camp Assistant 3.0.4 to install Windows 7 Home Premium OEM on my Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD. The problem I am having is that once I partition my drive and start the Windows 7 install the BOOTCAMP partition I made is not recognized by the install process (or any other partitions on my SSD for that matter). I know that the partitioning worked because when I boot back to OS X it is recognized. At this point I have reformatted the SSD and done a clean install of OS X and I am still encountering the same problem during the Boot Camp process. Has anyone encountered this same problem and found a solution for this extremely frustrating process? Help would be much appreciated!

My guess, and there were threads back when Intel X25-M came out, it is a firmware compatibility issue. I thought by now and with current new units, it was a think of the past.
I'll let you wade through the links, threads, and tips:

The new firmware fixed my issue.
You should contact Intel support for a fix.

However, it may not solve.

If anything, I would 'move' (ie, clone) OS X to another drive. Catch-22: you need Windows usually to apply any firmware update to SSD (and other devices).
80GB is really small. Especially for an SSD and Windows 7 - over provisioning, garbage collection, etc will make for a tight squeeze. Windows 7 on SSD uses 30GB and then there is page file, hibernation, 9GB for SP1 (due soon), and that is moving temp folders to another (mechanical) drive.
80GB = 72GB user partition and you want to leave 20% free for each OS. OS X needs 20-30GB plus free space as well.

hard drive not recognized during windows server 2008 setup

    Hi,
Whether the hard disk is recognized in BIOS?
Connect it to another computer to see if it could be recognzied incase the cause is the disk itself. Also please check if it is really a RAID instead of a single hard disk - a single disk should be recognized directly while RAID cannot be recognized until
    a suitable driver is installed.

i get a black screen during windows 7 installation on bootcamp 5.0.1 , it wont install

    Hi wb2009,
I haven't found that the TV would be an issue, but did find an article that states to not have extra USB devices connected.
Boot Camp: Windows installation boots to black screen with blinking cursor
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4536
The Windows installation may boot to a black screen with a blinking cursor. This can occur if you use a USB optical drive or USB Flash drive for the Windows installation and another USB device is also connected to the computer.
There's another article that mentions Windows XP or Vista that may apply.

    Hey rudreshchoubey,
Thanks for the question. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:
Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide

    If Windows doesn’t install properly
Verify that you’re using an original, full version of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Pro.
Restart your Mac and hold down the Option key until one or more disk icons appear on your screen. Insert the Windows installation disc into the optical drive or insert the USB flash drive with Windows into a USB port on your Mac. Select the Windows installation disk icon, then click the arrow beneath it. Quickly press any key on your keyboard to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.

  • Ipod 5th Gen 60gig isn't recognized by Windows XP

    Hi,
My 60 gig 5th gen Ipod isn't recognized at all by my PC. I tried different usb ports already, and in all of them when i connect the Ipod the PC just makes the typical sound when coneenecting any usb device and after that it doesn't shows the ipod neither in iTunes neither in My Computer but in the iPod screen appears te forbidden sign with the message "do not disconnect" and the ipod normally charges.
    See ya.

See if any of these articles help.
Windows XP cannot detect an iPod.
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • Lumia 1020 isn't recognized by Windows 8.1

I just installed Windows 8.1 and when I plug in my Lumia 1020, it isn't recognized.  In Device Manager it shows up under "Other Devices" as "Nokia Lumia 909 (RM-877)".  I understand that the 909 and the 1020 are the same so no mystery there.  When I right click and tell it to update the drivers, it says that there are no drivers available.
I read in another thread where someone was having a similar problem and powering off the phone and then reconnecting it via the USB cable seemed to cause it to be recognized.  I am not having any success doing that.  I have gone through the steps listed by Microsoft also without any luck.
I also have a laptop running Windows 7 and my phone is recognized by that computer without any trouble at all.  So, I don't *think* it is a hardware problem.
I went so far as to re-install my OS.  I patched it, updated the BIOS and didn't connect or install anything else (besides the patches) before connecting my 1020.  Once I hooked up my 1020, still nothing.  Can't update drivers from the internet or from the downloaded drivers.
    What is going on?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Look at other devices that are not loaded correctly.  Not the USB
If your operating system did not come with Windows Media Player, install the Media Feature Pack for your version of the operating system.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/download-windows-media-player
Use the USB cable that came with the phone.
Connect the phone to the PC.  Turn it all the way off, hold power button and slide the screen down. The phone will turn back on and it will be detected, drivers should load.
You should see it in windows explorer. It should install in 'portable devices' in the device manager.

  • 5th gen Video 30G isn't recognized by windows XP help!

I have a 30G video with the stock USB that has never had an issue until recently when i got the new iT7. The problem is that the iPod isn't recognized by my computer at all. when i connect it it brights up for two seconds as if i woke it up and then the light shuts off. it's still on but its not recognized. Neither iT or my computer. does anyone have anything to say about this or is having the same problems?
      Windows XP

New IPOD. Downloaded SW from web. iT7. Neither computer nor iT will consistently recognize ipod. backlight flashes on and off intermitently, and apparently randomly, when connected. Has "do not disconnect" message most of the time. Reset lasts 1-2 seconds. Need to shut computer down and then go thru ipod reset dance to disconnect and do 5 "R"s again (and again). Could it be a factory bad cable??
Surely not! And..where the heck would I get another to test with...oh, buy one, no doubt? I see a lot of other folks with the same problem. Apple, are you listening?
Jobs, get it done! Anyway, been thru a lot of complaints here and as it says above, problem is NOT resolved.

  • No option to reformat during Windows XP installation under Boot Camp

Ok, I just purchased Windows XP Professional SP2 to install on my Macbook Pro via Boot Camp. I first attempted to install it last night, and ran into a variety of issues.
I went into Boot Camp Assistant, printed out the instructions, and read them carefully. I continued on to designate the size of my Windows partition, which I adjusted to 45gbs. Then I created the partition with no difficulty whatsoever. After this I inserted my Windows installation disk and restarted the computer. Upon restart, however, the computer ejected the Windows disk before the computer even got past the grey screen. I reinserted the disk and the blue installation screen appeared successfully. It came to a screen that asked me what partition I wanted to use to install Windows, and I chose Partition C (titled something like "BOOTCAMP PARTITION FAT32"). The size of this partition was 45 gbs, so I know I chose the correct partition. Now this is where I ran into my biggest problem. *After I chose my partition, I am given no option to reformat the partition. It just skips that step entirely and continues on to the installation screen.* Windows installs and restarts the computer, only to bring my to the dreaded black screen with "Disk Error" on it. I know it brings me to this screen because I did not reformat my partition. The problem is, I'm never given the option to reformat the partition during the installation.
I have tried deleting my Windows partition and creating a new one (this time 32gb), and I get the same issue. It simply does not give me the option to reformat.
I've googled this and discovered that many other Mac users have ran into this same issue. _I've also discovered that the majority of feedback they receive is that they need to reformat the drive, but this is the problem: we can't. We are not given the option._ I have no idea what to do. Please help.

I just went through the same problem you are experiencing right now. I bet you are trying to install OEM version of windows. I used an old windows upgrade and ran the repair, which brings you to the command prompt c:, run "FORMAT C: /FS FAT32" . Once this is done go back and reinstall your Windows XP OEM. Works like a charm.

  • During Windows XP installation, 'Disk Error' shows.

In many other forums and other user experiences as well as the Bootcamp guide written by apple themselves, at one stage of installing Windows XP, normally after selecting the partition in which to install windows, it asks whether to format and into which format. However this does not happen on my Mac. After selecting the partition that was separated using Bootcamp, it does not ask to format but goes on to verify and then copy data into the partition.
A friend also said formatting is essential and the formatting option was included in the step-by-step procedures described by Apple, but this option was not present or shown in my installation. After the data was copied, it restarted the computer after completing the data copying and informing the user that the computer would be restarted. It then rebooted the same way as it did when I clicked 'Start Installation' on Bootcamp which restarted the computer and came to the start screen that displayed 'Press Space to boot from DVD' just as it did before. Pressing space opens another list where the first option is to press space to install Windows XP, other options show to boot something else and last option to reboot. If nothing is pressed, it jumps to another screen displaying the words 'Disk Error. Press Any key to restart' which happened every single time I tried to install windows and the only thing that I had realised was missing was the formatting of the partition that the Windows XP installation disk should have prompted which did not.
I had also tried accessing 'Disk Utilities' in the Mac OS X and erasing everything in the Bootcamp partition and putting it in FAT format whilst the partition for windows remained under 32 GB. However all attempts resulted in the same 'Disk Error' and never completed the XP setup.
Can someone please diagnose what problem this could be and suggest any possible solutions in order for me to successfully install my Windows XP Service Pack 2 on to my FAT32 format partition of 30GB. I believe it is related to the formatting issue.
    Thank you very much.
    Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to Discussions,
what exactly is the error message you get when you try the "Format C: /FS:FAT32" command ?
Sadly it is indeed so that a whole batch of Windows XP CDs are 'missing' the reformat option. Don't know why that is so.
frederic1943 has described the correct procedure in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2071417&tstart=105
Have you waited long enough for the drivers to be loaded ?
To Antonio: Reformating the BootCamp Windows partition through the WIndows installer is indeed a neccessity.
When using NTFS as file system for WIndows (neccessary for Vista and Windows 7) it is a must since OSX cannot write to NTFS by default.
With FAT32 also, since the BootCamp Assistant only does some sort of 'preformating'.

  • Bootcamp partition won't boot with two OSX installations

    Hey,
I have a MacBook Pro running OSX Mavericks (10.9.5) and had installed Windows 8.1 through Bootcamp and everything worked like a charm. I then added a new partition to install the developer preview of OSX Yosemite. Everything worked, I could boot to OSX 10.9.5, OSX 10.10, both recovery partitions and Windows.
Lately, my Mac had some issues that made me booting to 10.9.5 recovery and using disk utility to repair the Mavericks and Yosemite partitions (both were good, interestingly I could not repair the disk permissions, though) and I even clicked on "Repair", as the whole disk was selected and Disk Utility repaired something (I forgot what it was, but I think it changed the MBR).
Now the Windows partition is gone, when I option-Boot and when I try to reboot from OSX to the Windows partition using the "startup disk" option of System Settings, it says
No bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key
I want to be able to boot Windows again (and my OSX partitions) and would love to be able to do so, even when I choose to delete the Yosemite partition once it's out of beta so that I can update Mavericks. I tried using this guide:
Repairing Boot Camp after creating new partition
My problem is that it says that the Windows partition should be number 5 on /dev/disk0. In my case, the described partition is number 6.
Can I simply replace the number and it should still work or will it break something that the Windows partition is not at the place it normally is?
    Thanks in advance

Well, I just tried it and it didn't work. I still don't see the Bootcamp partition when I option-boot and when I try starting Windows via Startup Disk settings, the screen just turns black after a while and then a white blinking horizontal cursor appears (not even the "No bootable device" error any longer).
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • White Screen During Windows 7 Installation

    HI guys.
I am trying to install windows 7 using bootcamp on my macbook pro mid 2012 after deleting a previous install and everything goes fine until bootcamp partitions the drive and then begins to restart to boot into the Windows installation..
When it reboots I get a white screen and nothing happens.. windows does not boot.
I try instead to create an ISO image and boot from a flash drive and the same thing happens..
If anybody has any experience with this or knows the solution to the problem I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Turn off your Mac holding the Power button, and then, turn it on and hold the Option (Alt) key until you see all bootable volumes in the display. If you see Windows, choose it. Does it start properly?

  • BootCamp Assistant won't detect my Windows 7 Installation Disc

I am installing Windows 7 on my 13' Macbook Pro early 2011 model - I am on OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion).
I'm using BootCamp Assistant to try into install Windows 7 (I have the authentic installation disc), but BootCamp assistant failed to detect my disc. I am installing it on my 13' Macbook Pro early 2011 model - I am on OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion). I used BootCamp Assistant to try into install Windows 7 (I have the authentic installation disc), but BootCamp assistant failed to detect my disc and the error "The installer disc could not be found." I could hear the installation disc in my optical drive spinning and stopping.
I have searched throught the forums and tried many things but none of them worked. I have been looking for the solution all day!
    Please help!
Note: I have installed the proper drivers for the version of Windows I am installing.

Well I have tried downloaded a Windows 7 ISO, and tried mounting it on a USB flash drive and booting it from the USB, but that didn't work either (I heard that my version of OS X doesn't support that anymore because I already have an optical drive.)
BTW - what do you mean exactly by running disk utility on the DVD drive?

  • My ipod shuffle isn't recognized by windows.

When I connect my shuffle to my computer, it runs "autorun" indefinately. I can't run restore to fix it because the updater doesn't recognize the drive. In MyComputer, the drive shows up, but when I click it, MyComputer freezes and I have to use task manager to shut it down. The shuffle won't play any songs at all. I have reloaded iTunes, iPod, and tried everything on the web page. Any suggestions? Help.

      Windows XP

Can't say why XP doesn't recognize your Shuffle, but have had experience with the flashing amber light. I purchased the wall charger and the flashing stopped and the Shuffle received a full charge.
Come to think of it I had trouble getting my Win2K machine to recognize the Shuffle. After purchasing the charger there has been no problem having the Shuffle recognized by the computer. This makes me suspect that the problem you're having isn't because of XP, rather it is because your Shuffle isn't sufficiently charged.

  • Bootcamp/Partitioned my Macbook Pro with Windows 7, No Internet

So I ran bootcamp assistant, installed Windows 7 (Pro) and partitioned my Macbook Pro (running Mavericks), and in the first runthrough I had a few bad hard links, which was an easy fix. So I tried again, got everything installed, and when I tried to run windows on my partition, there's no way for me to connect to my wireless internet, nor does it give me any options to select from in trying to troubleshoot. I can connect just fine when running Mavericks, but cant even diagnose the problem in windows. Thanks

I'm not sure what "a few bad hard links" means. It sounds like you didn't install the drivers for the Mac hardware. Start here:
