(The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.)
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.

UPDATE: I should have asked what kind of MAC you were using, though hopefully this technique will work for any single button apple mouse/trackpad.

  • Bootcamp problems help!

I used bootcamp once with windows vista. I took it off after a while because vista took up too much space. Now I have Guitar Hero III for windows and want to install windows xp to see if it will work. However, when I went to install it with boot camp, it appeared as if the partitioning step of the process froze. I left it for about 30 minutes with no progress. So I used CMD+Q to quit bootcamp. When I started the wizard back up, it said I had two partitions, each -2147483648GB large. It won't let me drag the slider or anything. When I tell it to partition, it thinks for a while then generates an error message telling me to repair the disk. I stuck the OS X disc in and ran the disc utility off of it. It said it found a minor error in the header and fixed it. I reboot and came back to the same bootcamp problem. I wouldn't bother me so much, but the space I originally told it to use for the windows partition of bootcamp is now missing. In disk utility I have one partition with 111.5 GB capacity, 10.7GB available and 89.2GB used, that leaves a missing 10 GB!

The Apple Bootcamp implementation uses a Hybrid MBR, which has a limit of 4 partitions. OSX utilities use GPT, while Windows uses MBR scheme.
When you installed you-know-what, it removed the Hybrid MBR and put the entire disk into a Protective MBR as your fdisk shows.
    Option 1.
    1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using OSX side. You may not be able to use it again.
    2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
    3. Please remove you-know-what from your system, and the corresponding GPT partitions.
    4. Erase your disk, and re-store from 2 and re-install Windows.
    Option 2.
    1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using Winclone. You may not be able to use it again.
    2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
    3. Please remove you-know-what from your system, and the corresponding GPT partitions.
    4. Erase your disk, and re-store from 2 and re-install Windows via Winclone.
    Option 3.
    1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using OSX side. You may not be able to use it again.
    2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
    3. Please remove you-know-what from your system, and the corresponding GPT partitions.
    4. Create a new Hybrid MBR, with appropriate information and bring up Windows, using Startup Repair, if necessary.
    Option 4.
    1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using OSX side. You may not be able to use it again.
    2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
    3. Create a new Hybrid MBR (different from Option 3), with appropriate information and bring up Windows, using Startup Repair, if necessary.

  • Windows 7 Bootcamp problem?

    Hello people,
Let me start from the beginning. I have been trying to make a bootcamp partition on my iMac mid 2007 to run windows 7 on. This has been a very bumpy road so far and now I'm stuck at a bump. So far, this is what all I have done:
    1. Use bootcamp support to create a bootcamp partition.
    2. Install windows 7 from disk.
This is where it gets bumpy. At the completing installation portion of this, my screen goes black, and doesn't return. Easy enough, its probably a driver problem. So I
    3. Restart and boot to CD into repair my computer.
    4. Go to command prompt, and issue the command DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ATIKMDAG.SYS
    5. Restart. Says "Preparing computer for first time use."
Good from here right? WRONG. New error message: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Press OK to restart and restart installation. After some searching, turns out a quick registry fix can solve this problem.
    6. Press shift+f10 to open CMD. issue command regedit.
    7. Go to the setup part of the registry (HKeyLocalMachine/System/Setup/Status/ChildCompletion) change the value from 3 to 1.
    8. Restart. Setup continues, finishes, boots into Windows 7 and 800x600 resolution.
    9. I go to screen resolution, and change it to max, and it works. Everything is great almost.
Now, remember that atikmdag.sys file I had to delete to get the setup to reappear instead of that black screen? Well turns out, with that file gone, my computer now reads my graphics driver as corrupt or as having a problem, preventing many games and applications from booting up without giving a graphics card error. THIS is where I am stuck now. If atikmdag.sys is a vital file to the driver for the graphics card, how can I keep it where it is, but still boot up without a black screen? Reinstalling my video driver or reinstalling the bootcamp drivers cause the black screen or blue screen of death, so I have to delete that .sys file again to boot correctly. But without this .sys file, it seems my computer will always throw the corrupt/problem error at me?
Let me say, I have tried to download the catalyst drivers and use the atikmdag.sy_ file from there and issue the command "expand.exe atikmdag.sy_ atikmdag.sys" to make a new sys file for it, and this works and it boots with the file, but device management then throws the error that all of the packages arent signed correctly and refuses to boot the driver at all. Any help?
    Cheers, Adam

easy enough, just confirm that you have no other usb devices connected to your mac
where is your current w7 disk from? we're going to make a new one unless you tell me its a retail disk
dl a fresh w7 iso from below and google bootable iso disk on osx for steps
    http://techverse.net/download-windows-7-iso-x86-x64-microsofts-official-servers/
open boot camp assistant and if you have an option to delete/remove windows, do that
open disk utility and confirm that you only have 1 partition ('mac hd' unless you've renamed it), if not you need to get back to 1 partition

  • Bootcamp problem when booting win vista

    hello guys
i have one small problem while booting with windows vist. i make a clean install with vista.
first i created bootcamp partition and then i boot with vista dvd and i formated the ''bootcamp'' partition and install vista. after restart and pressing the option key to select the vista boot the booting started with some errors. because is not possible to make screen shots on bootime i record a video and i uploaded to youtube so u can watch the errors.
does this happen on all macbooks with bootcamp/vista installation or the problem is on my macbook or the vista installation...?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7PrnQw-T_A
    thanks

If Vista installed, and did an automatic restart after expanding and copying files to your hard drive, it should restart on its own into Vista until all the updates are applied. No need to use the Option key.
I didn't visit YouTube to try to see, other than what you have described.
As long as you formatted to NTFS and Vista accepted the partition (20-50GB is good number).
I would install Boot Camp from your OEM DVD from Apple either before doing any auto updates from Microsoft, or when it is all done. Either works. And add AV software like Norton AV 2009 (and yes, it is fine, unlike 2008 and before, and no need for any of the "Suites" with Vista, most get in the way and take over).
I have had trouble with Vista SP1 DVD though.

  • 2013 Macbook Air - Bootcamp problem

    Hi there,
Just wondering whether anybody else has the same problem a me.
I was using bootcamp to install win 7 Home premium into my Mac Air and when it reached to the windows where they ask you to fill in the username and the computer name, my keyboard and trackpad stopped working. Although i tried to use external keyboard and mouse, it still didn't work.
Does anybody have a solution for this? i will be very grateful.
    Cheers

my keyboard and trackpad stopped working.
Might need to install Windows drivers.

  • Mac Pro 2009 Bootcamp problem

I have a fresh install of the Snow Leopard and I was about to install Windows XP on the bootcamp partition but to my surprise I've got this error:
    http://content.screencast.com/users/idertkin/folders/Jing/media/64fb8a21-d49c-47 4e-a629-26163daa2ea0/00000001.png
Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used. You must update your computer's BOOT ROM.
What gives? I was running Boot Camp with no problems with Leopard.
    My Boot ROM Version: MP41.0081.B03

    Hi,
Did you attempt an EFI flash bios(efi) update? Sounds like the update either didn't finish correctly, or something happened where you or something caused the computer to shut down inadvertantly. My next advice to you:
Did you try to reset the SMC? If that does not work, then to restore the mac pro's EFI, you will need to download from another mac computer, EFI Firmware Restoration CD 1.8(I think).. Burn it to a CD.. and insert it into another mac and use that mac to FLASH the EFI to your non-working mac pro.. I will provide the link for you..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL976
Hopefully, this will resolve your problem.. Please note: This does NOT update an existing firmware version, it is only used to restore the original firmware in the event of an unsuccessful flash.
    Good luck!
P.S.: Before you do this, follow the normal trouble shooting procedures.. check that your memory is installed firmly in the dimm sockets.. try one at a time.. if the memory checks out clean and working, then try the video card.. if you have another known working video card, use that as a test... if that fails... then RESET THE SMC... To do this, you need to power down the mac pro.. Unplug it and let stand for 15 seconds while holding the main power button.. Plug back in and that should restore things... IF NOT, then download the firmware restoration cd and burn to a disk.
Report back and let me know if you get it to work... IF you did all the above and still nothing, I suspect a faulty logic board and or processor board, or possibly a faulty processor(You would hear a series of beeps to indicate this).

  • Mac Mini (mid-2011) Bootcamp Problem

I have been trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp on my Mini (mid-2011). The process is fine up to the point when the computer restarts and begins the Win7 installation process. I select the Bootcamp partition and click "Format," which it does. Then I click next and I get the following error message: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate and existing system partion." I can go no further than this and I have attempted the installation 5 times with the same result.
Has anyone one else experienced the same problem and if so has anyone figured out how to get it to work?
    Thanks for the assistance.

I am experiencing the same thing. I can not get past it at all I have disconnected all of my external drives like others have stated.
I get stuck at that point half of the time and the other hall I get stuck at a point earlier on that says I needed a required CD/DVD driver... It's a non cd drive Mac mini!
If anyone has an idea let us know...

  • Severe Windows 7 on Bootcamp problem

Hello. I've had my Macbook Pro for about 3 weeks now, the Mac OS itself is great, no problems there; however, I have installed Windows 7 via bootcamp for specific incompatible games and other things. Now I notice a HUGE problem going on when using windows. Once in awhile, it FREEZES. These freezes are random {it could be something I was doing but i've had it happening while i'm on YT, no YT and just mozilla, or gaming}. The freezes also do different things. It will either:
    1. "brick" my Macbook, forcing me to hold the power button down {which I really don't think is good for it} to reset it.
    2. It freezes for ~30-50 seconds and it's all dandy again.
During these freezes nothing will move. Not my mouse, no sound, and of course keyboard and the classic ctrlaltdelete won't make anything work.
I've been looking around before I came to ask for help, and some people are saying is a problem with the nVidia drivers that the Mac came with, and I was linked to a guide telling me to download the updated drivers for nVidia. However when I downloaded the drivers {For GeForce 320M} and try to install, it just tells me it can't find any existing drives/destination to install it to. So I tried to also manually go into device and click "Updated Drivers" but it tells me they are up to date. Then it tells me to download something called RivaTune to tweak the performance of my graphics card and it's too soon to tell if that's working.
I'll continue to look around meanwhile hoping to come across a solution. It'd also be nice to get the mechanism behind this to know what's causing it and why instead of just a solution. I like to know how things work Thanks!

just that it is still confusing
Yes, it's a bit hard to follow when the version numbers seem to suggest they're for the same thing. However...
Windows 7 requires Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and the Boot Camp 3.1 Update.
...pretty clearly spells it out that you need to do exactly that. The drivers on the SL DVD must be 3.0. Which are incomplete for Windows 7 since they were still in development for about a couple of months beyond SL's release. The 3.1 drivers you download are the finished Win 7 drivers, for those Macs supported by the 3.0 drivers on the SL DVD.
I'll ask the hosts to look into it and see if they can verify. As I mentioned earlier though, later releases of Snow Leopard may already have 3.1 drivers on the disk. That's probably what you, I and everyone else would like to verify.
Edit: The easiest way seems to be just to install Windows 7 and then whatever is on your SL disk. Once that's done, you have the Apple Software update app in Windows 7. Run that. If you need the 3.1 driver update, it will tell you. If not, the 3.1 drivers were already on your SL DVD and you're done.

  • Parallels + Bootcamp = Problem/ Please Help me

    Hey,
I am using an external Firewire drive, because my internal is damaged. So I was not able to install windows xp through bootcamp (Bootable device Error).
So what I did is, I made a Bootcamp Partition and I set up Parallels to install Windows on the Bootcamp Partition.
Everything works fine. Installer shows up, I reformat using NTFS Quick Format, and then it copies the install files, and then The Virtual Computer Reboots. But after Rebooting, not the normal installer shows up, but the installation screen from the beginning where I can format my partitions and hard drives -- again.
What is the problem here? Can Anybody help me on that?
    I am using Parallels 3.0.
    Thanks in advice.

    Hi
You should make a mapping for the service sapmsPRD in your /etc/services file (On Windows: C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32DRIVERSETCservices). If your instance number is 00 you will have to add the following entry:
    sapmsPRD      3600/tcp
    Good luck!

  • Bootcamp problem please help

    Hi,
I've been having this problem for weeks now.
I was able to intall windows 7 using bootcamp, which I did numerous times with my previous macs.
Today, I wiped my harddrive, and fresh installed OSX and windows 7
everything went perfect up to the point where I installed some drivers for the bootcamp. and it restarts,
AND I chose windows partition on my boot menu and there all I see is black screen with the blinking cursor!!!!!!
The strange thing is when I insert windows dvd in the tray and boot it from the dvd, and
after the msg : "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD...."
I didnt press any key!!! and it boots perfect to windows partition.
When I remove my DVD and boot from the 'windows' partition, black screen with blinking cursor is still there.

    NO,
Please read carefully as it might be confusing. Here, let me make it simple.
    scenario #1 :
    1.  I choose to boot up from DVD (using optiong key and select windows DVD from the menu)
    2.  prompts message "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD / DVD"
    3.  I DIDN'T press any key. (when I press a key to boot from DVD, it boots from the DVD and goes to windows installer)
    4.  Boots perfectly to WINDOWS from the hard drive (NOT DVD)
    scenario#2 :
    1. I choose to boot up from the 'windows' PARTITION from the boot menu
    2. voila! black screen with blinking underscore.
I already tried wiping and reinstalling windows several times.
What I am assuming is selecting windows DVD from the bootmenu (option key) triggers mac to locate a proper location of my installed Windows. (even though it is ACTUALLY NOT BOOTING FROM THE DVD).

  • Installing Windows 10 with Bootcamp problem?

I've been trying to install Windows 10 Technical Preview for a while now jumping through loads of hoops with no luck. Keep in mind that I've had various versions of windows and ubuntu on both of my SSDs in the past.
Here's a look at my set up:
    Macbook Pro mid 2012
    Two 256GB SSD's
    32GB Flash drive
    Windows 10 iso from microsoft
I have tried to make the USB from Bootcamp, then install through bootcamp. It formats the SSD, then restarts the computer. Although, the computer boots up into a black screen with a blinking underscore. If I hold option, I see two options from the USB. "Windows" and "EFI Boot" If I press the Windows partition on the USB from the boot selection, I get back to the black screen with a blinking underscore. If I press the "EFI Boot" option, it brings me to the normal set up screen. After I click advanced setup, and click my drive to install, I can't click the next button. Of course I format the drive, but still no luck. It comes up with an error saying that the drive is an MBR format and needs to be in GPT. ("The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only installed on GPT disks.") I tried going through the repair option and going into the command prompt while typing the "Bootrec.exe /Fixboot" without any luck of it fixing the issue. I also tried making the USB drive through windows and back onto my Mac, no luck either. Currently I'm downloading a Windows 8.1 iso to see if I can install this, then upgrade through bootcamp. Only problem is that this will take a while. Do any of you guys have any suggestions I might have missed? I'll update this constantly with how the windows 8 install then upgrade goes, but until then, what do you guys think?

I solved my issue. The method I used was a combination of other methods I found on the internet.
1.) Went back into Mac os X and opened Disk Utility
2.) Clicked on my SSD I was going to install windows onto
3.) Went to the partition tab and selected one partition, then changed the format to free space and hit apply
4.) I booted back into the windows installation EFI
5.) Got back to the part where you choose your drive still getting an error
6.) I then hit "Shift + F10" to open command prompt, and typed this in:
    "diskpart"
Found my drive by typing "list disk" (In my case, it was Disk 0)
"Select disk 0" (Or what ever your drive is, probably 0)
"clean all" Let it sit and do it's job for about 15 minutes
Closed command prompt, still might give an error
7.) Restarted computer and went back into the EFI installation
8.) Allowed me to format, then hit next like normal!
Everything is working fine for me after installing the Bootcamp drivers except for audio. I've tried installing it through the compatibility options, still nothing. Do any of you guys know any way to fix the audio issue with Windows 10?

  • Bootcamp problem cannot format windows partition

I have tried numerous times to run bootcamp to install Windows on new Macbook 13" Retina.  It always hangs at the stage where windows tries to format the BOOTCAMP partition.  It says it cannot format it
I contacted Apple support who said that I could use disk Utilities to format the Bootcamp partition - no I can't!  I have the partition shown in Disk Utility but there is no option to format it.  There is an option to erase it with NTFS greyed out and it says in the info that it is in Windows NT file system
Any ideas - I have been trying this for weeks now
I bought Parallels but that was useless - even after giving over most of the 8GB memory to Windows it kep freezing / going slow?
How do I persuade my Windows install disk that the drive - called Untitled - is NTFS and that it can install (Windows 7) on it
Very frustrated as all this worked first time on both my iMacs
    Help please

Personally I have had no experience with this problem but maybe these urls will have some useful info.

  • Windows 7 enterprise bootcamp problems

Hi, I've been trying to install Windows 7 enterprise on my Early 2013 macbook pro retina 13". I'm running Mavericks, so bootcamp 5.
I'm able to go through all the steps in the bootcamp process (creating bootable usb drive, downloading support software, particioning and installing win 7), but when the machine boots into windows and starts the install of windows, it cannot find the drivers. I know the drivers are there, but it does not recognise them. I have tried using them from a different usb drive but to no avail. I've also tried to use Virtualbox but the same thing happens.
(My iso file is not pirated or anything, it's fully licenced)
Are there maybe version 4 bootcamp drivers that will work with Win7 Enterprise. Because I am fresh out of ideas, and I need to use my mac for work because they gave me a crappy Dell!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for the answer, it may be helpful, because I ran into a new problem after solving my first problem.
The first problem was solved by using the original (broken) apple mouse instead of the one, I am using now.
After the windows setup started, I ran into a new problem: The setup process stop when unpacking the windows files. The progress counter never increments from 0 %.
Maybe this is due to the writing speed of the DVD.

I am trying to download windows 7 on my mid-2011 iMac with bootcamp assistant. Could someone please help me come up with a way to solve this problem please.

  • Bootcamp problems mac osx 10.8.3

    Hey guys,
Yesterday bought the new mac mini 2011!
And today I wanted to install windows 8 or 7, it doesn't matter to me that much!
So i downloaded two versions of windows, two times an iso files.
I thought it was 64 bit, but not sure.
So i started bootcamp and clicked the create an instalation disc for windows 7 or above and imported the iso and selected my 8 GB usb but once I click the continue button it says that it doesn't support any windows version other then 64-bit, but i'm sure my version is 64 bit.
I tried the last option in bootcamp wich is: Install windows 7 or above, then I needed to make the partition wich went easy but once i clicked continue it says that it wasn't able to find the windows instalation disc.
Can somebody tell me how to fix the 64 bit problem, because i realy want windows on my mac!
If you're able to tell me the problem or give me a donwload link for a working windows version for my mac.
For the one who want to know my specs:
    Mac mini late 2012
    Bootcamp 5.0.2 (build 462)
    Mac osX 10.8.3
    Thanks in advance!
    Timsun

I have the same Mini as you do.  I have used boot camp but now I use Parallels 8 and Windows 7.  Much easier to use and no program or driver issues.  I would buy Parallels from Amazon for about $60.00 and load Windows into that.  With Bootcamp you need to rely on the Apple drivers and sometimes they are picky.
