Bootcamp problems help!

I used bootcamp once with windows vista. I took it off after a while because vista took up too much space. Now I have Guitar Hero III for windows and want to install windows xp to see if it will work. However, when I went to install it with boot camp, it appeared as if the partitioning step of the process froze. I left it for about 30 minutes with no progress. So I used CMD+Q to quit bootcamp. When I started the wizard back up, it said I had two partitions, each -2147483648GB large. It won't let me drag the slider or anything. When I tell it to partition, it thinks for a while then generates an error message telling me to repair the disk. I stuck the OS X disc in and ran the disc utility off of it. It said it found a minor error in the header and fixed it. I reboot and came back to the same bootcamp problem. I wouldn't bother me so much, but the space I originally told it to use for the windows partition of bootcamp is now missing. In disk utility I have one partition with 111.5 GB capacity, 10.7GB available and 89.2GB used, that leaves a missing 10 GB!

Solving bootcamp problems after partition

hey guys,
recently i got struck in a bootcamp problem,

i solved it to a point in which i can make windows or bootcamp
icon appear in alt-option panel,but when i try to boot into it,
underscore starts blinking continuously but no windows starts booting.

The Apple Bootcamp implementation uses a Hybrid MBR, which has a limit of 4 partitions. OSX utilities use GPT, while Windows uses MBR scheme.
When you installed you-know-what, it removed the Hybrid MBR and put the entire disk into a Protective MBR as your fdisk shows.
Option 1.
1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using OSX side. You may not be able to use it again.
2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
3. Please remove you-know-what from your system, and the corresponding GPT partitions.
4. Erase your disk, and re-store from 2 and re-install Windows.
Option 2.
1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using Winclone. You may not be able to use it again.
2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
3. Please remove you-know-what from your system, and the corresponding GPT partitions.
4. Erase your disk, and re-store from 2 and re-install Windows via Winclone.
Option 3.
1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using OSX side. You may not be able to use it again.
2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
3. Please remove you-know-what from your system, and the corresponding GPT partitions.
4. Create a new Hybrid MBR, with appropriate information and bring up Windows, using Startup Repair, if necessary.
Option 4.
1. Backup your Windows partition to an external disk using OSX side. You may not be able to use it again.
2. Please backup your Mavericks side via Time Machine.
3. Create a new Hybrid MBR (different from Option 3), with appropriate information and bring up Windows, using Startup Repair, if necessary.

Thank you both for your responses but my daughter was reassured by the salesman in the iStyle store (official Apple store in the UAE) that iMessages would work but conceded that FaceTime wouldn't. My iTunes account is registered in the uk and my daughter's iPhone has iMessages even though she bought it (and uses it) in Dubai. Can anyone else throw any light on this?

Windows 7 on Bootcamp I am locked into a DOS screen and it is not installing. I have been on line with Apple and microsoft and they can't help. I have lated versions of Lion and bootcamp. HELP

I used the 64-bit windows disc.
Should I try parallels?

Do you have a DOS screen with a command prompt or just a blank screen?
Is your Windows 7 x64 an original MS Full Version Installation DVD?
Did Windows 7 Install Disc start?
If it did you would have had to choose the location of where to install Windows 7.
Did you select the Partition named BOOTCAMP that corresponded to the Partition Size you created in BootCamp?
Were you asked to format the Partition?
Did you format the partition to NTFS and then get an option to click NEXT and actually start the Windows 7 installation?
Do you have a wired USB keyboard and wired USB mouse?
If you actual went through the installation and restarted then here are some things to try:
First try doing a CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and see if a Windows Option Screen appears.
If you get the Screen you will have some options displayed.
You want to highlight and click TASK MANAGER which should be the bottom choice I beleive.
If Task Manager runs you will get a window showing all the processes running.
See if you can find EXPLORER.
If EXPLORER is running highlight it and go to the bottom right and click the END TASK button.
Now go to the Top Left Menu Bar.
Click FILE
In the sub menu that opens select RUN or RUN NEW TASK (Not sure which it is in Windoes 7 as I am running Windows 8)
Once RUN is selected a new window will open to CREATE NEW TASK
Type in EXPLORER and then the OK button.
If Windows 7 installed properly the Desktop should appear after a bit of time.
Your first concern is to get your keyboard running so you may have to remove and reinstall Windows using Boot Camp on the Mac Side.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad/iPod into Recovery Mode

IPad syncing problem - HELP!

iPad sync problem - HELP! I keep getting this message "...cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional ...space needed)" and yet I seem to have plenty of space on the iPad. This just started today. I even tried deleting some things to make even more room, but it didn't help. Any ideas???
I was thinking of restoring, but I've never done it... should I?

Not that I am an expert o/c but here are some thoughts on the matter.
My comments are based on my experiences of the KT3 Ultra2 which is basically the same as the Ultra version.
This mobo does not have the ability to lock the PCI/AGP bus freely from the FSB. However, it does have dividers. At 133 a 1/4 divider kicks in. Above 152FSB the 1/5 divider works, so that at 166 the PCI & AGP buses will be back in sync. If you are o/c your cpu, don't go from 133 to 145, etc since you will be running the PCI/AGP buses further out of whack. Just go to either the mid 150's or to 166 in one jump. The other problem / issue relates to your cpu. From what you say you have one of the old Palominos which are not great o/c's. I would personally o/c your cpu from the BIOS rather than 'Fluffy Logic' which I would tend to stay away from.
With a 166FSB cpu a very stable o/c would be 175-177 beyond 180 gets decidedly tricky.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

I had the same issue and I'm running Windows 7. Tried working with technical support for several hours but they were no help. They just had me doing the same things over and over, offering no real answers. I finally got fed up and have decided to return my product for a full refund.

Warranty is valid only in country of original purchase. You have to return
the iPhone to the US for evaluation. Either you return it personally or send
it to a friend/relative/co-worker in the US to take into Apple. Apple will not
accept international shipments for evaluation nor will Apple ship out of the
country after repair/replacement.
Have you tried the standard trouble shooting steps: restart, restore, restore
as new iPhone?

Parallels + Bootcamp = Problem/ Please Help me

I am using an external Firewire drive, because my internal is damaged. So I was not able to install windows xp through bootcamp (Bootable device Error).
So what I did is, I made a Bootcamp Partition and I set up Parallels to install Windows on the Bootcamp Partition.
Everything works fine. Installer shows up, I reformat using NTFS Quick Format, and then it copies the install files, and then The Virtual Computer Reboots. But after Rebooting, not the normal installer shows up, but the installation screen from the beginning where I can format my partitions and hard drives -- again.
What is the problem here? Can Anybody help me on that?
I am using Parallels 3.0.

You should make a mapping for the service sapmsPRD in your /etc/services file (On Windows: C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32DRIVERSETCservices). If your instance number is 00 you will have to add the following entry:
sapmsPRD 3600/tcp

Bootcamp Partitioning Problem - HELP!

Hi,
I'm having a completely frustrating time trying to partition my hard drive in order to install Windows 7 via bootcamp.
I have used the Bootcamp Assistant to attempt division several times (trying to split between 5gb and 50gb to see if any would work) but each time I am presented with a message that:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
At the moment I don't have the facility to completely back up my hard drive and, after searching several forums the problem seemed to be solvable by defragmenting the whole drive to leave an area of contiguous space at the end of the drive. I created a bootable copy of iDefrag in order to allow the whole drive to be defragmented without having to worry about open programs etc...and left it running last night.
When I woke this morning defragmentation had completed and I can see from the illustration on the program that there is a large amount of contiguous space free at the end of the drive.
I have a 500gb drive, 152gb free and am at a loss at to why the thing won't partition.
Any help or advice which avoids having to restore from a Time Machine or SuperDuper! backup greatly appreciated.

I have tried to follow the steps detailed within the link that you provided but am encountering yet another problem early into my attempt.
When partitioning through Disk Utility I am getting the following error regardless of the size of partition I am attempting to create:
'Could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed'
Am trying to repair disk permissions but if that fails will have to invest in a large enough external to back up onto.
