BootCamp Partition- Missing Operating System Windows Startup Repair
Hi.
I made the mistake of creating a new partition on my HD with an existing Boot Camp partition. I tried to follow the advice of Loner T in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6574886, and got made the Windows installation bootable. Upon starting up Windows the screen displayed 'Missing Operating System', I tried doing a Windows Startup Repair using the Windows Installation Media without any luck.
Here is the current state of my hard drive.

00000200Please download GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/) and Testdisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step).
1. Your GPT is corrupt.
2. The MBR is incorrect.
3. You do not have a valid NTFS header.
You need to run Testdisk first to find the correct NTFS header. Please see http://imgur.com/a/PjmnK for the Testdisk screens. -
When I start up, I get the grey screen, but no OS options (I've been successfully running Win XP via bootcamp for over a year), then Windows DOS tells me that there is a missing/or corrupt system\config file and tells me to put windows setup disc back in. That doesn't work, neither does trying to boot off of Leopard - it just keeps coming to the same screen.. how do I get my Leopard back? I will delete this partition, I only had to use it to VPN for work..
Please help!So you can't even boot into the Mac side....Hmmmmm....
Unless you have a defective keyboard then no reason, except maybe plug it into another USB port and try again. Are you sure your using the MacOS Install disk and not the Applications disk? Had to ask.
Do you have any other USB, Firewire, etc, devices hooked up? Disconnect everything except the Apple keyboard and mouse and try booting again.
Try digging out your "Hardware Test" CD that came with the computer and insert it and restart and press the D key and see if it will run.
One last try, it's a guess, immediately after the startup chime try pressing the "Shift" key and see if it will boot into Safe Mode, it will then do an automatic maintenance script.
If no one else has any answers then my guess would be your Mini may have a hardware issue and maybe take it to an Apple Store and have them check it out for you. If your Hard Drive was dying you should of still been able to boot into the MacOS installer disk.
Sorry I can't help more.... -

After that I follow this solution
Rebuild using start/end offsets from Testdisk DeepSearch using GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/)
Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0

Bootcamp Icon missing from system tray...
On the 1st computer (iMac) that I installed BootCamp with Win 7, I have an icon in the lower left system tray for changing the booting choice.
Today I installed BootCamp on my wife's new Mac Mini and the icon is missing from the system tray. While it was about 6 weeks ago that I put BootCamp on my iMac, I don't remember doing anything that cause the Windows system tray to display the boot choice icon for BootCamp/Win 7.
Anyone have an idea about how I can get that icon to appear on the Mac Mini.
Both systems are running Snow Leopard with the latest software.Macaby there are two separate components of Boot Camp. First is Assistant which runs on the Mac side of things from OS X. It creates/deletes the Windows partition which is necessary to install Windows. Next the Boot Camp Panel software which is installed once you have successfully installed and are running Windows. It allows tweaking of the Apple hardware from within Windows. It is installed using the OS X disc and does not jeopardize your installed Windows OS in any way. This disc also contains the hardware driver necessary to optimize the hardware in Windows. In my experience this disc has never started via autorun so you will most likely have to locate the Boot Camp folder and run the setup.exe file manually.
Don't know how much your wife uses Windows but if it's running well enough then you may want to leave it alone. Check device manager in Windows for any red or yellow punctuation marks. This will indicate a potential driver issue in Windows. Also check the Windows Experience Index for performance issues. A 1 anywhere indicates a driver issue. If you have no driver issues and Windows is running well enough you may want to leave it at that. -
Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro mid 2010, Mac OS X 10.7.4 (11E53) Kernel Version: Darwin 11.4.0 and I have also Windows 7 Ultimate using VMware. But something changed apparently, because previosuly it booted straight to Windows, but now it boots straight to Mac. If I need to boot into Windows I restart the laptop using Alt. Plus, on the Startup disc option, the Windows partition is nowhere to be found, but the bootcamp hd is still intact. What should I do?
Thank youHello Iris_Vader,
It may help to boot to OS X Recovery, then run Repair Disk on your Hard Drive via Disk Utility.
If you've installed an operating system on a drive but it isn't listed, the volume you're trying to start from might need repair. If the volume contains OS X, start your computer from OS X Recovery and useDisk Utility to repair the volume, or reinstall OS X on the volume using the Recovery System.

Cs6 error on startup: missing msvcp110.dll (Nik/Google plugins)
I am getting msvcp110.dll is missing on startup of cs6. Photoshop online help was no joy
Microsoft 'upgraded' my IE browser from IE8 to IE9. I don't use IE, so I uninstalled the 'upgrade' and all is well again.
This is the second time Microsoft has upgraded my unused browser for me, and the second time it's caused problems with other programs and I've had to remove the upgrade. At least I know where to look if a perfectly functional program suddenly stops working properly.
Hope this 'fix' helps others.

Mac 10.6 bootcamp partition missing
In a bit of a panic..
I've had Bootcamp running with a secondary windows partition for years. (Set it up when I bought the rig in 09)
This morning I was on FB, reading articles, etc.. when Chrome stopped responding.
Couldn't force quit.. had to hold the power to reboot.
It rebooted into windows.
Shutdown immediately, and rebooted again. Held down the option button. and my OSX partition was missing.
What the ****...
Then I tried to get into windows to see if I could access the mac partition.
However the windows side wanted to run a diagnostic because I shut it down.
Let it do that, black screen.. No response..
I have not seen any problems with the Hard Drive..
Thoughts?
I can still boot it up and see the windows partition in boot camp.Poked around in forums more.. Copied this question to the bootcamp topics..
If anyone has any suggestions I am figuratively all ears.. -
Bootcamp startup disk disapeared
I am running a 2013 MacPro with the latest bootcamp and win8. Everything was working perfectly and then my bootcamp disk disapeared from the startup disk list when running the Mac OS. The only way I can now get to my Win8 system is to shutdown and restart using the option key and select the Windows boot drive.
Any suggestions short of reinstalling would be appreciatted.Hello olilarkin,
I recommend resetting the NVRAM/PRAM on your Mac Pro to resolve the startup disk selection issue you are experiencing. The startup disk selection is an item stored in the NVRAM/PRAM. You can follow these steps to reset the NVRAM/PRAM:
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Apple Cinema Display Dimming On Bootcamp Startup (found a fix!)
Hey guys I recently bought an Apple 27 inch Cinema Display to go along with my 15 inch Macbook Pro. Prior to purchasing the display I had installed Windows 7 Professional on my Macbook and used bootcamp to play games etc. I recently had to delete my bootcamp partition and reinstall it (ran out of space and didn't want to deal with winclone/making an image of my system). Everything went perfectly fine except the cinema display would always dim on startup and there was no way to adjust the brightness.
I talked to Applecare multiple times and they came up with zero solutions, but I found a fix myself. If you go into MSCONFIG, while in Windows 7, and turn off bootcamp services from starting at the launch of Windows 7 it doesn't dim the screen and everything works completely fine. I'm making this post to show people how to easily fix this problem and so Apple can fix whatever is making the bootcamp services dim the brightness of the cinema displays.
The problem is indeed 100% caused by the bootcamp services. If I start the computer without bootcamp services running there are no brightness issues. As soon as you open bootcamp services it instantly dims the screen and have to go back to MacOSX to fix the brightness.
Anyone have a clue why bootcamp services wouild do such a thing?
Thanks for your time, I hope this helps some people and I really hope apple looks into this problem.
P.S. Please discuss this topic and add any other ideas on hotfixing this problem.
ADDITIONAL INFO: I am using Windows 7 Professional 64x.I traced the problem to hardware - I'm running an older Apple ADC 23" Digital Cinema display, so use and ADC to DVI adapter - because of this there is a USB "pigtail" which carries the USB from the rear ports on the monitor into the PC. This works fine in MacOS, but boot into Windows (and I tried XP running NOT in BootCamp and Windows 7 running IN BootCamp) and it seems to hunt and search for this "generic hub" (the USBs in the monitor) and upon not finding them appears to send some kind of signal to that hub, disengaging it or whatever, and dimming the screen. In Windows XP this happens right after the login screen appears, but in Windows 7 it won't happen until AFTER you log in (always thinking "Gee! Maybe this.... time.... ah.... ^%$#@!").
I tested my theory by using WinADC (the add on software that adds brightness controls for Apple ADC monitors to Windows XP - only 32 bit btw) on the XP machine - every time I started up WITHOUT that extra USB connection I was fine. When I started up with it... DIM happened. Then I tried starting it up without it plugged in.... FINE... then plugged it in AFTER full startup and loing... DIM happened. Plugging and unplugging it in in Windows would sometimes re-reveal the added extension for brightness (WinADC) so you could see how the USB was being searched not just for simple connections but for the brightness CONTROLS that are built into the monitors hub it seems.
So, I'm going to try your suggestion here, turning off Boot Camp services, but, for others if that doesn't work: Start up in mac OS, set your brightness, then UNPLUG any additional USB that is being run into the monitor and startup in PC - should be good to go. -
Bootcamp startup disk selection in Windows 7 does not reboot in Mac OS X
Hi!
The bootcamp control panel lets me select which operating system too boot into but it doesn't seem to write the actual instruction to do so to the EFI, because everytime it boots me right back into Windows even when I choose to restart in Mac OS X. The PRAM has been reset.
Within Snow leopard I can choose between Mac OS X and Windows 7, and equally the ALT key works to select it manually. I have tried reinstalling bootcamp in Windows 7, but I will try it again if needs be. I just need your ideas please.
I have Mac OSX in one drive and Windows 7 on a separate Drive within a MACPRO. I have Winclone'd the Windows 7 partition, so I don't mind repartition/restoring etc. I should mention this setup used to work before I manually erased the MAC OS X partition and reinstalled everything. I wonder if the windows bootcamp has the old EFI configuration and does not know where is what anymore. How do you get it to refresh? I have also tried removing bootcamp from windows 7, and then reinstalling it and then updating it to 3.2.I should also mention, I have a 3rd hard disk with Windows XP installed (all of these are internal in the MACPRO). The same thing is now happening there as I have just checked. The Bootcamp control panel does not instigate to boot into Mac OS X either. So how can I get this control panel to write to the EFI (if this is what it is called?) to boot into the correct selected partitions? I should also mention I can see the Windows 7 and the The Windows XP respectively displayed in there. But I cannot get to boot into either of those either by selecting them from this control panel. It is stuck booting into it's own OS disregarding my selection. I don't think it is 'talking' to the EFI anymore and writing what it should to it (or to bootmgr or something)? What can I do in this case?
What does bootcamp.exe actually do? If I could delete the current list it has stored and get it to rescan even though everything is exactly the same, just reinstalled Mac OS X by erasing the partition on the main drive, which I'm guessing this is why Bootcamp.exe does not write the appropriate command to boot into my OSes? -
Replaced hard drive, bootcamp and missing memory.
hello,
a little while ago, my hard drive gave up the ghost and so i had a replacement fitted under warrantee. previously i had partitioned my disk so that i could use bootcamp and windows when needed. after restoring my system on the new drive, i thought id lose the partition and windows and apps, i thought that time machine only backed up the osx part of my hard drive.
recently my new disk has filled up, its a 160g hard drive, and yet looking through all the files, i see that i only have about 148g used up. is it likely that the new disk was partitioned on restoring from time machine (id reserved about 10g for windows), that my 160g drive only really has a useable capacity of 148g, or that theres hidden files that are eating up storage space???
any help and remedies would be most useful!
thank you in advance.TM does not backup a Windows partition nor does it partition a backup drive. You would need to do that separately using Disk Utility and Boot Camp Assistant.
There are thousands of hidden files installed with OS X. It's quite likely you simply can't count the space they consume by adding up the space used by what's visible.
Depending on how you are determining space on the drive you may be getting mixed calculations. Although the drive has 160 GB capacity using Base 10 arithmetic, it has a 148 GB capacity using Base 2 arithmetic. Snow Leopard is supposed to display disk space using Base 10, but I believe Boot Camp Assistant is reporting the space using Base 2. This would account for the two different numbers. -
Formatted Bootcamp in Win Install, Bootcamp settings missing completely.
While installing windows, I tried to install it onto the "Bootcamp" Partition created by the software while on OSX (Mavericks)
The installation told me I could not install it because it was not an "NTFS" format partition.
I then went under it and used the seemingly only option of formatting the disk.
Later, I installed windows 7 successfully.
When I finished and opened windows, I tried setting certain things like right clicking and the like, and looked online for the solution.
I found that people suggested going into the control panel or notification area to find the "Boot Camp" icon or program to change the settings.
There is nothing on my windows partition that is even named that.
I fear that formatting the disk may have deleted the Boot Camp settings and I am unable to get it back.
Is there a way around this? I dont necessarily need bootcamp to be active. I just need to be able to change the settings to be able to have a functional windows 7.
-Mainly the use of the trackpad-It's really cool you solved it but not that cool for anyone else with the problem to read that...

Bootcamp partition missing after installation of OS X Mountain Lion
I am not able to locate a hard-disk partition on my Bootcamp after installing OS X Mountain Lion... It seems that the partition is there, but not showing on Drive list.. mapping problem?
Does anyone has a similar situation?
i want to recover the data anyhow...Read this thread:

Hello:
I have a black 13" macbook and I am trying to locate the BootCamp assistant on my computer so i can load a copy of windows xp pro. I have throughly searched the apple help page and tried everything. From searching my computer to putting in the mac os x instal disc 1 and searching for it there. Both places have lead to dead ends. If anyone can tell me where i can locate the BootCamp assistant it would be quite helpful thank you. Also i'm currently running Mac OS x tiger and I do not want to have to upgrade to leopard.I also need Boot Camp Assistant, but for the opposite reason: I want to restore the space in my (now useless) Windows partition to my main partition.
Since installing Boot Camp I did a clean install of Tiger, which left me without a copy of the Assistant. Now I see that it's not available on the Apple site. Anywhere else, please?
