Bootcamp Volume Settings

So i am runing windows on it via. bootcamp; and i am finding the volume (PAH!) sounds very annoying; so is there a way to turn off the sounds on it without you hearing it; like i want to be able to toogle volume on both my mac side and windows 7 volume settings (up/down) without having to hear that paH! sound every time.

Hi macwzrd, I followed your procedure and... IT WORKS!! I rebooted several times now, and I still have a true black sound icon in the menu bar. So the issue seems to be fixed, thanks!
BUT now, _coreaudiod process is taking *much* of my cpu resources (136 coreaudiod _coreaudiod 114,7 5 3,4 MB Intel (64 bit)) and the fan keeps turning on and on like mad...
Any ideas on how to stop this strange behaviour?

  • Can't connect a Bootcamp Volume to networked Macs

The question: When adding a Network Place in WindowsXP so that I can connect it to a home networked Mac, what is the correct address statement I should provide for the Add Network Place Wizard? And what should I do on the Mac to enable access? All Mac's use Leopard 10.5.1.
I am trying to access home networked Macs from a Bootcamp volume on another Mac. (The Bootcamp volume has MacDrive6 installed so that WindowsXP can read MacOSX drives.)
I have run out of ideas trying to get WindowsXP to access the contents of Macs on the network.
The Sharing Prefs pane on the Mac tells me to browse for the Mac's computer name, or use computername.local. This prefs pane also advises using afp://IPaddress instead of browsing for computername. Both styles are rejected by Windows so I assume that this advice is only suited to accessing from the MacOS.
The joy of all this is that Windows DOES see computername when browsing the network but offers no further moves. ie., there is no chance for me to state that this is where I want to go.
If I use Window's suggested connection language, eg., //computername/share, Windows DOES see the Mac but claims my foldername is invalid. We do get to the point of inserting the admin username and password as required for the Mac. Then I am told, invalid folder. I have tried various versions of the name, long and short, but always the folder is invalid.
Leopard File Sharing Help says I should enable the SMB protocol. I did. Whatever I try as the SMB address in WindowsXP, it's denied by Windows as an invalid foldername.
In the File Sharing prefs pane I have also set up, as shared folders, the network Mac's HDD names, home folders, &c. Nothing works.
Since I used to have no problems with this business, has Leopard somehow messed up?

*"If I use Window's suggested connection language, eg., //computername/share..."*
Your slashes are backwards. try \\servername\sharename

  • Volume settings not retained

    Hi guys,
I have been having a problem with my Mac Book from the start. According to what I have read on the Internet my Intel based Mac Book should retain volume settings separately for my headphones and my internal speakers.
Meaning that once I have changed the settings for the volumes it should set the correct volume if I connect my headphones or use my internal speakers. This does happen and work normally.
However after restarting my Mac Book volume settings are not retained and once I connect my headphones the volume is set to 56%. Similarly this happens for my internal speakers as well.
This also describes my problem http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=88936
Could someone help me out with this, I have already reset my PRAM and NVRAM
So the option described on this page does not work for me.

I have suffered this problem too.
Both pair of my headphones, one came with iPod, are loud enough at 6%.
56% is surely going to kill my ears.
I've been googling around and found no solution.
But this is not the most depressing thing.
Let's take a look at this

Obviously Apple was aware of this problem two years ago. And the only solution is to "adjust the volume level and balance as desired after restarting the computer."
    Waht the __?!
This is not even a real solution.
Why wounldn't OS X just remember custom volume settings for headphones?
When are you going to correct this issue any way?

  • Volume Settings Change on Reset

Volume Settings Change on ResetZ Randomly when I reset, the volume settings all 'max out' and refuse to change in the Creative Audio Console, despite what I do to change them. It is not shown in any menus, but you can hear that it is this way.
This then leads to weird noises as all the volume is too high for the features to work right. The only way I can get around this is to manually change the volume on everything when I use it (obviously not going to do this) after each reset/power-on, or I have to set it to default and change the settings again (gets annoying fast).
Anyone know why it would be doing this? It seems software related to me, rather than hardware.

I "feel your pain", having had this issue on average every 3 months or so. Sometimes it will spontaneously fix itself. I tried deleting the Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes Outbox.mbox folder followed by closing and reopening Mail which worked for a very brief time only, then became an issue once more. I have 2 accounts in gmail.com which are the current outgoing server issues. One of them works and the other doesn't. Now when I create a new note there are 2 text boxes in the from area of the note all of a sudden.
This is a real problem because if I send mail using the other server, my business accounts will not recognize the incorrect server now being used by Mail to send all my outgoing as the address is not the one associated with my accounts.

Have you tried the restart/reset/restore troubleshooting path?  That would be the best initial set of steps to take, particularly in a situation like this.

  • "Audio Mix" volume settings premiere elements 10 not "sticking"

The "Audio Mix" volume settings that I set after adding a soundtrack to video in premiere elements 10 have stopped working and are no longer "sticky". I am running premiere elements on a Macbook pro with about 100GB free disc space and 8MB RAM. The volume settings adjusted using "Audio Mix" would previously "stick" as adjusted. I have not altered anything in how I adjust the volumes but "Audio Mix" has suddenly stopped functioning.  Both the soundtrack and main captured audio track maintain full volume despite adjustment. I have tried to restart the computer and reload the program to no avail.

    Correct.
I used to be able to adjust the volume with the Audio Mixer "on the fly" with the video playing and it would stay adjusted (as depicted in the tutorials). This no longer happens. The Mixer used to generate keyframes automatically. It no longer appears to generate keyframes and the volume remains at baseline for all the tracks.
I have not tried to manually set the volume level by dragging it and creating audio keyframes on it yet. I will try this but the videos are long with multiple fade ins and fade outs and this would likely be too laborious to accomplish.

  • Why is my iphone automatically lowering ringer & incall volume settings?

My wife and I purchased our iphones from two different AT&T stores. The volume setting keeps lowering itself to the lowest setting for both the ringer and in-call conversations. I actually saw it in action the other day. I looked at the screen and the ringer icon appeard showing full volume. Then it automatically lowered itself, deleting the small white square (that indicate volume setting) from right to left until there was only one square remaining on the left.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

I think it has something to do with "Sound Check" ... There's a setting under iPod with an On/Off slider labeled Sound Check. The manual describes it as "Set iPhone to use the iTunes volume settings" (p.65).
I had a problem where, the volume level would drop down by itself to a very low level, making my ringer sound barely audible. I was missing calls all over the place! Well, it turns out that in iTunes > Preferences > Playback, there is a "soundcheck" check-box. Soundcheck apparently adjusts the volume of your computer so that one audio track sounds as loud as another, even if they were recorded at different levels.
My theory, which I'm still testing with my iPhone (so far so good!), is to uncheck Soundcheck in iTunes, and turn off the on/off slider for the iPhone's iPod Soundcheck setting. What I think might be happening is that something about Soundcheck on the iPhone is not working right, perhaps the Soundcheck thinks the iPhone stock ringer tones have a sound level that is way top high, and so Soundcheck is compensating by setting the volume level on the iPhone super-low.
And with Soundcheck off in iTunes and on the iPhone, I'm not noticing any volume issues ... if the volume of some podcast is too low, I manually turn up my laptop or iPhone volume, big deal!
This may be a situation in which an automatic feature designed to eliminate the need for the user to do something that is not a big bother anyway, causes more unexpected problems than it solves.
So, so far, this has worked for me, but I want to give it a few days just to make sure something else isn't also in play. I'd love to hear if my theory and turning off Soundcheck everywhere solves the volume-level-drops-by-itself-on-the-iPhone mystery!

  • EE Harrier ringtone too quiet even with volume settings on max, any suggestions

I have recently upgraded to a EE harrier and a Harrier mini for my wife.On both phones the ringtones are very quiet even with the volume settings set on maximum. This is causing us to miss calls and messages as the ringtones are just too quiet.Ive tried ringtone booster apps but have yet to find one that works.Any suggestions ?

    Hi

It might sound daft but have you tried a few of the different ringtones to see if any are louder?
How long have you had the devices for and where did you do the upgrades?
    Thanks.

  • Making Bootcamp Volume Default Boot Disk

I have just created a Bootcamp Partition on one of my Volumes. When I use it, I want to make this partition my default boot volume so that if I am doing Windows Installs that require Windows to do an automatic reboot, it will boot back into Windows not my normal MacOS X system. This means that an Option Boot will not be adequate since that just overrides the Boot Volume for THIS boot but not for the next boot (or reboot). To make it permanent, I must use the Startup Disk preference to select the volume. This is where I am running in problems. I have 4 separate boot partitions and used a barebones 10.6.1 partition to do the creation of the Bootcamp Partition. When I boot into that partition (or do an Option Boot) I see the Bootcamp volume for selection. If I boot into any other MacOS X partition (including a 2nd MacOS 10.6.1 one) or my normal 10.5.8 Partition (which I plan to clone copy into the barebones partition after erasing it and upgrade to 10.6.1) I do not see the Windows volume in the Startup Disk menu (although the disk is on my Desktops so it is being seen as a normal disk).
How, if possible do I make the Bootcamp Volume available to ALL my Boot Partitions for selection via their Startup Disk Preference. I am holding off on doing the Clone and Upgrade due to my fear that once I do it there will be no way to select the Bootcamp volume via Startup Disk and thus I will need to hold Option every time I boot or Windows reboots. I know that I could Option Boot to get to Windows and then use the Bootcamp Menu to select the bootcamp partition as default and then reboot to make it permanent) but I would rather not have to go through this hassle.
    Thank you.

Yes I did the Bootcamp install under Windows (by using the MacOS X DVD).
As I stated, the ability to set Windows as the default Boot Volume works with the MacOS X Partition that I used to do the Boot Camp Assistant execution and the Windows Partition itself (ie: When running Windows). I can also do an Option Boot to boot into Windows (but that does not make it the default volume).
My problem is that aside from the partition that I was booted into when I ran Boot Camp Assistant, I have OTHER MacOS System Partitions that I boot and none of them see the Bootcamp Partition in their Startup Disk Menu (only the one that created the Bootcamp Partition). While I know that I can Option Boot into Windows, set the partition as default, and the reboot to make it take, I would like to avoid the need to do that useless 2nd boot just to set the default boot volume.

  • Apps ignoring iphone volume settings

I don't know if this goes in iPhone or iOS.  I was in a restaurant viewing my Facebook newsfeed and accidentally clicked a video that started playing at full volume.  I pushed the mute button but that didn't stop the sound.
I turned the volume on the phone all the way down using the buttons but that didn't make a difference.  Same thing happened with Pandora.
There are at least 2 apps on my iPhone 5 that did not respect the volume settings on the phone (set with the buttons and mute switch).
Is this the apps' fault, iOS or the phone?

It's the app's fault.  Delete the app then reinstall it.  If the issue remains, contact the app developer.

  • My Ipad Mini won't remember my app volume settings

I bought an ipad mini about 2 months ago, and have been having trouble with it not remembering the volume settings in my game apps.  I prefer to keep all my apps muted, but when I exit out of any of them and then return (sometimes only after a minute or two), the volume will turn itself back on.  This has been occurring since day 1 with some of the apps, and now it's happening with another after I turned the volume on, then decided to put it back on mute.  I can't figure out what's going on, any suggestions?

If you want mute and u put switch on to mute below ur ipad at the back, make sure in settings> general>find say use side switch to.... select mute ,so u just control from switch button to turn off or on

  • Incoming call volume settings when locked

Hi, I have the Iphone 5, for some reason incoming calls when the phone is locked are mute or on vibration. When the phone is unlocked it rings normally.
Can someone please advise how I change the volume settings on the phone when its locked? I keep missing phone calls when its locked.
Secondly, how do I change my email address?
    Many thanks

When you unlock the phone and are looking at the home screen, if you press the up or down volume button, what do you see? It should say ringer, then a bar at the bottom showing how far the volume is turned up.
The ability to change those settings in Do Not Disturb are only available when Do Not Disturb is turned on, and they are only active when Do Not Disturb is on, not when it is off.
Secondly, make sure the mute switch on the side of the device is not turned on to block the ringing. See this fugure.

  • Bootcamp volume selectable in Startup Disk but won't boot. Bootcamp not visible with Option Key

My bootcamp volume is selectable in Startup Disk System Preference, but Windows 7 will not boot stating no bootable volume.  The Bootcamp volume does not appear when option key held down during startup.  Windows 7 booted fine before I booted into MacOS.  When I tried to reboot in Windows 7, that's when I received the non-bootable error.  All looks fine on the Windows 7 volume.
I'm working with a Macbook Pro Early 2008, 256 GB SSD, Windows 7 and the Boot Camp Support Software 4.0.4033.
I tried to re-install Windows 7 on its 32 GB partition, however Windows reported volume is not in proper format???
I tried repairing my Windows 7 volume with my install disk, but apparentl after having to update my initial Windows 7 instalation (disk bought in 2009) about 3 or 4 times, my Windows 7 install disk reports it cannot repair the now updated version of Windows 7 on my hard drive.  Lovely.  Brilliant engineering.
I looked into editing my partition table, but that process appears more a hack/bandaid for the underlying problem that more than likely still exists.
Any suggestions, other than painfully starting from the beginning???
    Thanks.

Well, want to rule out drive case,, as those do come up with EVERY new OS, just hit Lion 10.7 forum when it came out, or when 10.6.0 came out 3 yrs ago.
Maybe the power adapter is the weak link.
As I said, and goes back yrs, not a fan of FW/USB/eSATA case from major vendors (LaCie, WD, Seagate etc).
And you could try another case. Be sure to buy a case that lets you swap in your own hard drives though.

  • ? about volume settings and decibels

ive been importing some mp3's to iTunes and then converting them to AAC files. but once i convert them, i notice the AAC files are quite a bit quieter than the original mp3's. ive been using AAC encoder at 128kbps under the High Quality Settings.
heres an example: i just converted a mp3 of 96kbps into an AAC using the high quality settings of 128kbps. now i have sound check on, and for the original mp3 file under Get Info it says Volume -5.8dB.
The AAC says Volume -8.3dB. I listenend to both and heard that the AAC is QUITE a bit QUIETER than the mp3.
if AAC is supposedly better then why is it quieter than the LOWER mp3 settings? Basically, the AAC file is quiter but bigger in size?
Does anyone know why the conversion is liek this or what those Volume settings i mentioned about mean?

I don't have any comment on the "volume" issue, but in general I advise against converting from one format to another unless absolutley necessary.
Since the original file is MP3, it's alredy been compressed - meaning audio data has been discarded in the process of making the mp3 file. Converting to AAC means another run through a compressor, and therefore even more lost data. The file will not sound better than the original, it's technically impossible.
