Bootcamp-where is it?

I bought a new Macbook with Leopard pre-installed. I can't find Bootcamp, either in applications or utilities and I did a Spotlight for it and all I found was a beta bootcamp from my restore external disk from my previous computer. Do I do a custom re-insall or what? Thanks.

  • HT3986 Bootcamp: Where are the network drivers?

    Hello All,
Just got my full copy of Windows 7 Home Premium Edition yesterday and installed it using boot camp. Seemed to go alright. Unfortunately, I can't get onto the internet from it. Doing the Windows trouble shooting, it looks like the drivers weren't installed. Okay, I'm sort familiar with this problem.
Looking on the Apple Boot Camp support, it seems I'm supposed to use my OS System Disk to get the required drivers. Well, this 2 month old MacBook Pro didn't come with a system disk. I thought system disks were a thing of the past with OS 7.
The other option I have is that I burned something to a CD during the installation process. Looking at this CD's contents, I see a folder marked "drivers". Excellent! But what is my next step?
In the "Boot Camp" folder are: autorun.inf, Boot Camp Installation & Set Up Guide.Pdf, BootCamp.xml, BootCamp64.xml, Documentation, Drivers, Setup.ex. Within the "Drivers" folder there are folders for Apple, Asix, Atheros, ATI, Broadcom, Cirrus, IDT SigmaTel, Intel, Marvell, MotorolaSetup.exe, NVidia and RealTek.
So, which drivers do I need and how do I get them onto the computer? And is this something I need to do from OS 7 or Windows7? The documentation says you just pop the CD in from Windows and follow the on-screen instructions. Nothing happened. Am I doing the process correctly?
    Thank you.

The cited ANSWER needs some clarification. When you go to Finder -> Preferences, there are two places to ensure "Connected Servers" is enabled. The one under General tab will put the share icon on your desktop. The one under Sidebar tab under SHARED doesn't work (seemingly) if the share is a Windows administrative share (e.g. D: drive shared as D$). I don't know why, but there's no D$ under my Finder Sidebar even with this option selected. Checking the option under General setting does indeed stick a D$ icon on my desktop.
    Bug?

  • Unable to install BootCamp 3.1 on Windows 7

Hello, I have had a MacBook for a long time now, it is an IntelCore2Duo. I have recently installed Windows 7 and the CD with the drivers included with the laptop only works for XP. I downloaded BootCamp 3.1 which, in theory, works with Windows' new OS, but it asks me to install BootCamp 3.0 beforehand to update it to 3.1. The problem is that I haven't been able to find the 3.0 version anywhere. My question is: how can I update the drivers? I am only interested in the keyboard and mouse compatibility, the rest of the drivers are already installed by windows without a problem. And if I am forced to use BootCamp, where can I find the 3.0?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
the BootCamp Drivers 3.0 are on the OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD.
Since your signature states "OSX 10.6.4" I assume that you have such one 'lying around'.
Just insert the DVD while in WIndows and the Driver setup should start automatically.
The 3.1 Driver download is indeed an update only and only works when the 3.0 Drivers are already installed.

  • Need HDCP-recognizing Bootcamp Windows driver for MacBook Pro's screen

I need a Bootcamp Windows driver for my MacBook Pro 15/Retina (MBR) that recognizes that the MBR's built-in screen in HDCP-compliant.  The current Bootcamp drivers for Windows do recognized HDCP on an external HDMI-connected display, but do not recognized HDCP on the internal display.
BTW, I've read some statements that Windows drivers don't recognize HDCP via DisplayPort connections, so I wonder if Apple is using internal wiring that acts like it's a DisplayPort connection?
Please do not suggest things that only enable disabling DRM HDCP protection from Blu-Ray discs.  I need a solution that to cooperate with DRM HDCP protection for content from live tuners, not from a Blu-Ray or DVD disc.
My application is using Windows Media Center (WMC) to play streaming content from my Silicon Dust HD HomeRun Prime (HDHR3) cable TV tuner on my MBR's built-in screen.  This works fine with an external HDMI-connected (HDCP-capable) display, but I also want to get this working on my laptop's screen for when I'm stuck in bed (illness, bad back, etc.).  The only application Silicon Dust offers for viewing HDHR3 tuner output on Windows (or any platform, as far as I know) which supports all protected cable channels is WMC, and WMC relies on the Apple-provided Windows NVIDIA drivers for HDCP capability.  The NVIDIA Control Panel explicitly recognizes my external HDMI-connected monitor's HDCP capability, but does not recognize the MBR's internal screen has having any HDCP.  This causes WMC to prevent the display of any TV channels at all from the HDHR3 when the only screen is the internal one (and it blocks DRM-protected channels if both screens are active in parallel).
I'm thinking that the best solution would be an NVIDIA driver for the built-in GeForce GT 650M for Windows 8 (or 7) which recognizes HDCP capability via DisplayPort.  Is there anything like that?  Or, alternately, some add-in driver that adds a layer of HDCP capability recognition to the standard drivers?
Is there any currently-available solution?  . . . something that will enable the internal screen to play all the tuner's cable channels including DRM-protected ones (either on Bootcamp'ed Windows or on the OS X side)?
P.S. -- FYI, the only other potential app I've read about for using an external tuner with a MacBook is an OS X version of MythTV, but (a) that requires an excessively long list of geek tweek steps (install an SQL application, create an SQL database, do lots of command-line tweaks, add & configure a backend app and then a frontend app, ... ) and (b) even then it seems it doesn't support channels that aren't marked "copy-freely", i.e., HDCP-enabled DRM protected content.

Strange -- sig's comment seems gone now.  I wonder why.
Anyway, I did try the latests NVidia drivers yesterday, afterall they explicitly say they added HDCP over DisplayPort, but no joy.  In the NVidia control panel (for Windows), external displays via HDMI have a left-menu section for HDCP that explicitly shows it's working, but there is still no such indication for the internal display, and I am still unable to use WMC with HD HomeRun Prime cablecard tuner to play anything on the screen except channels that the provider marks "copy freely" (e.g., Bloomberg news channel 722 isn't playable, but MSNBC 723 is playable).
My guess is that maybe laptop internal displays don't explicitly have internal DisplayPort and HDCP technology but have some kind of exception that normally allows playback?
As an alternative I wish there were cablecard tuner playback software on the OS X side that could play more than "copy freely" cablecard-tuned material, but there doesn't seem to be anything comparable to Windows Media Player that supports that.  (Now it should be clearer why this discussion belongs under MacBook Pro and not under Bootcamp where the moderators moved it.)

  • Bootcamp Backup Instructions

Step by step instructions for the creation of an NTFS Bootcamp back-up image file using Apple OS X 10.8.4 software, (No additional software required).  Must have an external back-up disk.  I suggest the WD "Mypassport" for under a hundred at Apple stores.  These same instructions apply for backup of the OS X partition on the same external hard drive.  Both OS X and Bootcamp images can be restored onto a new hard drive or back on to the original source disk in the case of a needed write-over using the same utility software.  Please make sure and give me feed back, especially during any sorts of testing, thank you.
    Open Finder
    Select Applications
    Select Disk Utility
    Select  "Bootcamp"
Select "New Image" (create a disk image from disk or device).
    Save as: Bootcamp
    Where: My Passport Air
    Image Format: read-only
    Encryption: none
    "Cats rule the Planet"  kittyboy

I have not actually transfered the image file onto a new drive partition.  I assume that the file would have to be installed onto a pre-formated NTSF partition?  I do not have an experimental macbook.  I am sure that if you follow the instructions I wrote, you will have created a very good image of your intire partition.  I suggest the additional step of verification.  Just double click the file after it is created, and it should automatically start the verification process.  I have plugged in my air drive and sellected it as a start-up drive from the options list that is visible holding down the "option" key at power on.  But I am not 100% sure if it actually started from the air drive even though I selected it?  Please keep me posted, it is a question that I share with you.  If it works, then we both have the easiest way to get this done and feel confident we have no surprises when we do not need one!  When you create new back-ups in the future, the message will prompt you to write over the old file.  The only problem with the bootcamp software is that once you partition your hard drive, you are unable to re-size it and alocate re-aocate the new space, I have tried this in the osx even though the windows will allow you to reduce and have free space available.  Only second party software will allow you to change around drive partition space without a complete re-format of the entire hard drive.  Let me know if you get this message.

  • Is a Mac the right way to go?

    Hello All
I need your knowledge and wisdom to help me with a business IT problem I have.
I run a small online company with 3 other staff.
We buy and sell items online through a third party website.
If you can image we are a company that sells through a website similar to E-bay or Amazon supplier - sadly not all of our software is Cloud based.
We produce our invoices and manage our sales through third party software, that is pretty rubbish and is windows 7 based - we hate it, however he need to use it.
Currently I use a Mac Book Pro that I love using and my work rate is far higher than my staff who use Windows 7 based laptops.
(I was stuck in Nice about 3 years ago with a laptop that went kaput. It took three days to get it working again, so when I arrived back in the UK I went straight to PC World and bought a Mac - Never looked back)!
We have a big problem in our office, that I am trying to address and I need your advice with.
Our Windows 7 Laptops are less than a year old (We need to use Windows 7 as that is what the software works on).
If we switch to Macs - Can we use Windows 7 compatible software? Or will it revert to Windows 8?
Which is the better Windows software to use on a Mac? (I don’t want to use it - however it is needed to run one piece of software only.
We need a database software programme. Currently I am trialling FileMaker Pro. I have been told that we don’t need the Filemaker Server software as there are only 5 machines. (it is also on offer 2 for 1).
I have purchased Office 365  for our computers and all that did was waste 2 days installing it and then lost our emails for 3 days.
It is difficult to use and at £40 a month seems to be a waste of money.
Solution - (This is where I need your advice)
1 x desktop Mac, that can hold all of our images and use as a base computer - I would rather not have to pay for a server if I can help it.
3 x Mac Book pro or Air, that can link together to share database contacts, that need to be updated in real time. (A database that holds names, emails and client notes, as well as invoices and inventories).
Run the third party software though a Windows Parallel Operating System on a Mac.
Update our contacts, diary, spreadsheets, tasks and notes in real time.
For example a client phones in and requests information on a product, when can then log the call and any actions, which will update everybody else in the company, should they look at the clients details.
We need to be able to look at each others diary, and amend info if required or add appointments.
Set reminders for each other and have a task list that we can all use and amend.
Can all this be done through iwork?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Use parallels , virtualbox , wmware or the likes as virtual machines bootcamp is only imho if you need pro 3d apps or gaming
In a virtual machine you can install as many different versions of windows and linux and what ever you have storage for and even run them in a window under osx if you want
Many peope post with issues with drivers and install and the likes under bootcamp where a virtual machine would give less driver problems

  • A newbie in need of help and advice

I was wondering if someone could help and advise me...
I got my macbook at the beginning of the year.. I love it, so far. BUT as its my first mac, I know nothing about them or how to proceed.
I understand there is a thing called 'bootcamp', where I can install Windows. I have just started college and a lot of the stuff I will be working on in class, I would like to continue at home, so I need windows.
Obviously after persuading my hubby to buy me a mac, I cant turn around and say its no good for college work. Now this bootcamp and installing windows... would I get virus's like a normal windows computer? This was my big thing about buying a mac, the lack of virus.
How do i even go about getting windows? etc
    Many thanks in advance
    Nic

    Hi Nic,
You can buy your own genuine copy of Windows from either Microsoft or a reliable reseller like Amazon. I would recommend Windows 7 Home Premium. On Amazon you can find a reasonable discount at the link below.
    http://amzn.to/qVtBvK
Once you get your copy of Windows, you can proceed with the Boot Camp installation.
    1. Open Boot Camp Assistant after backing up important files and documents.
    2. You should have a Snow Leopard OS X DVD on hand if you bought the Mac last year. If you don't, click the bullet that says "Downoad the support software for this Mac," and you should save all of that to some external source like a flash drive or external hard drive, CD, DVD, something.
    3. If you do have an OS X DVD, click that bullet instead.
    4. Partition your hard drive. It may sound intimidating but all it means is divide the space according to how much you want to give Windows and how much you want to leave for Mac OS X. Dividing in half is usually the easiest way so click "Divide Equally."
    5. Click Continue and when you are prompted, insert the Windows DVD and click Start Installation.
    6. When the Windows Installer prompts you to select a place to install, click on the partition of the hard drive that says "BOOTCAMP" and click Drive Options > Format so Windows can install correctly. It will tell you it won't be able to install at first, but when you click Format under Drive Options, it will be able to.
    7. Proceed with the Windows installation. When it has to restart, hold down the Option key as your computer turns on and select the hard drive that says "Windows," NOT the CD/DVD icon that says "Windows".
    8. Continue with the installation. When it is done, you can insert your Mac OS X DVD (on Windows) and install the Boot Camp drivers, or if you saved it to an external source, connect it that way and install.
    9. To change between operating systems, just restart the computer while holding down the Option key and when the menu appears, double click on the OS you'd like to start up with.
Feel free to ask if this seems confusing at all.

  • Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

I have this (or a similar) issue and I did notice something interesting. After I boot into Windows via Bootcamp (where I have the U3014 specfic driver installed) and then reboot into MacOS X (Mavericks) the monitor works flawlessly.
I would hazard a guess that this means bootcamp is retaining the driver used in Windows. Kind of the reverse of the TB GBE adapter driver issue.
To explain my issue for anyone else: the monitor flicks on and off as if the connection was poor. Connecting via HDMI. Connection is fine and as stated, everything works fine in Bootcamp.

  • Home Mac Mini Yosemite Server and Time Capsule

    Hello again,
I''m looking to have a Mac Mini Yosemite home server with my dot com pointed to my fixed IP.
I have a laptop, an iPad 2 and an iPhone 6 to manage in the beginning.
It's mostly to practice skills for employment purposes.
If I get the latest october 2014 Mac Mini with Server 4 and I want to back up the server on a Time Capsule 3 TB:
    Will it create big backups:
Some macs will be backed up to Mac Mini Yosemite Server Time Machine Services.
iPad and iPhone backed up in iTunes, on the server or the laptop?
What else can be a problem?
    François

    Hello DC,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
For the problem I try to anticipate, it was like those mac with Bootcamp, where Windows is one big file and a simple log on-log out on Boot Camped  Windows would change the big piece of bread and another complete multi GB would be backed up. the runaround was not to time-machine the Windows file and use a PC backup for the Windows stuff.
In the same vein, if users back up to the Mac-Mini server in a sparse image, does'nt that fill the backups of the server which is also a sparse image?
I agree with you that an external Time Machine HDD is more flexible as more than 3 TB can be needed down the road.
As for open ended question, effectively, you read it right, I am looking for problems I did not anticipate from user who bumped into them.
    Thanks

  • Minidisplay port output logging

Is there a way to monitor output activity of a minidisplay port? Some sort of a logger? thanks.

Thanks for your swift reply .
The make/model of television is Grundig GU19WDVDT. I have tried the displays in system preferences and it shows a list of resolutions including 1080i, 720i and others but when selecting these it does not display any image on the TV screen. The only option that displays an image is 640 x 480 but this does not look good as it is not very clear at all unlike in bootcamp where it can display 1080i perfectly. The overscan option does not help with supporting other resolutions.
The only thing I can think of is the output is wrong for my tv when using OSX but surely it should be similar to Windows 7 on the same hardware.

  • Autocad file not deleting

I am using Macbook pro 13 inch. My mac operating system is Lion. On my bootcamp where im using windows 7 some of the AutoCAD file are neither open nor delete. If i try to delete Only "preparing to delete" msg disply and no further progress and unltimately I have to start task manager to end the process or shut down.
I'm very much frustated with this because Im an civil engineer and AutoCAD is must for me.
    Thank You in advance

It depends on which actions you use for the different tasks.
For instance, "Distribution" options are executed prior to "Run" options, so
can't delete a file under the "Distribution" options that are installed
    under the "Run" options.

  • 'Tap to click' not working in certain applications in Vista SP2

    System: Alu Macbook c2d 2.4ghz (late 2008)
    Bootcamp version 3/3.1 (Latest)
    Windows Vista SP2
    OS X 10.6.2
    OK, insignificant problem, but to explain;
I have the Bootcamp control panel installed in Windows Vista under Bootcamp, and for the last 5 months, all has worked perfectly. 'Tap to click' has never had any problems anywhere in Windows, or related applications.
For the last few months I have run a game, Championship Manager 01/02 under Windows XP, in OS X 10.6, via VMWare 2. No issues at all, other than it wasn't the fastest. Tap to click worked fine in XP, and in the game.
A few days ago I gave my disks of VMWare and Vista to a family member as I didn't need them anymore, and planned to delete them both from my system. I then booted into Bootcamp where I run Vista SP2, and installed CM 01/02 directly onto the Windows system.
All worked and installed fine.... other than in CM 01/02 only, 'tap to click' does not work at all! I have to physically 'click' the keypad, which *****, is loud, and is a real pain.
I rechecked in XP under VMWare, and it works there, so I reinstalled under Windows Vista in Bootcamp, and again, no go.
I am just wondering if anyone may be able to tell me why this would happen just in this one application, and how I can go about fixing it!
    TIA
    Marc

After accidentally pressing down on the Magic Trackpad, I realized the trackpad has tactile feedback, that is, it is a big button that can be pressed down and pop back up like old computer mice. Though this will allow the trackpad to select the account I want to open in the Login Window, it still doesn't explain why "tap to click" isn't working in the Login Window. Nevertheless, my question can be considered as answered.

  • Replacing 2011 17" i7 MBP 128gb SSD with 13" MBA with 256gb SSD?

    Hi Guys,
    Looking for your input.
I'm now using the 2011 17" MBP i7 with 128gb SSD as my only machine.
I'm using it mainly for my Adobe CS5, Streaming HD content to my PS3,
Parrarel, Torrent, Surfing and iphoto/itunes. With occasional steam games.
I've just put the order for 13" MBA, with i7 and 256gb SSD.
Will be fast enough to replace my MBP and do the tasks above?
Will it be much slower? I don't do video renders.
The reason I'm getting the air is that I'm travelling regularly.
Also I will hook it up to the new 27" thunderbolt Display.
    Thanks for your input.

CS5 is a pretty intensive application, and so is Parallels. I still think you'll be okay with CS5, but Parallels runs sort of slowly on my 11 inch Air. So, I installed my Windows in Bootcamp where it runs a lot smoother, and is a better overall experience. I'm not saying you can't used parallels with the Air, it probably just won't run quite as smoothly as it does on your 17. However, it will be able to handle the remaining tasks you listed with ease, I really do think you'll like it a lot more than your 17 inch pro. The new Airs are just so likeable- there's nothing I can find wrong with mine. I have a 15 inch Pro (2011, Thunderbolt, 2.2 GHZ) and ever since I got my Air last week I've used the Air 80% of the time and my Pro 20% of the time. It's just more enjoyable to use, and even though I'd never let go of my Pro because of how powerful it is, I know I'm going to continue to use my Air more.

  • I desperately need a Windows based software on my Mac Air...

I have a Windows based program that I NEED and would like put on my MacBook Air, but how do I do that?  Someone out there please help!
    Very gratefully yours,
    Me.

First, you will need a full version copy of Windows 7. Then you have a couple of choices as to how to install Windows. Apple supports a scheme called "Bootcamp", where on your main drive a separate partition is created, and applicable hardware drivers are provided to run Windows separately from the Mac OS, when desired.
Alternatively, you can install Windows using what is called a "Virtual Machine" system setup. A stand-alone Mac App creates an artificial environment for Windows to be run on and simultaneous to the Mac OS.
There are advantages and disadvantages to either choice. The Bootcamp method generally affords a faster Windows experience, when the programs you will be running require all your resources. The VM solution is more convenient and gives some desirable interaction with the Mac OS, and lets you run both simultaneously. The VM solution shares resources and is therefore sometimes a problem if your Windows programs need more than is available.
The Bootcamp solution is free, inasmuch as it is built in already, but only supports Windows 7. The VM solution will cost the price of the VM App (VMWare Fusion or Parallels). There are free VM apps, but you kinda get what you pay for (ease, support, etc). VM apps also tend to support many different versions of Windows.
No matter what though, you will need to own a full copy of MS Windows.

  • Enough memory to run parallels + W7

    Hi,
I'd like to know if there is enough RAM on a MB Air in order to run properly a VM like Parallels win W7 / Office 2010 + some Win Applications?
    Thxs

4 GB (assuming this is what you've got) should be enough for light Windows 7 work. Don't expect miracles though.
Think about it as Windows 7 with 2.5 GB of memory.
You should however have no problems booting up to Windows 7 via BootCamp, where you get to enjoy all of 4 GB of RAM. You can still casualy run BootCamp partition via Parallels in virtual enviroinment for casual Windows usage.
What I would recommend, if it's an option, to virtualize Windows XP. I do that for some of my old software. It's memory requirments and disk footprint is much lower, so let me do a lot of Windows stuff without slowdowns.
    Hope this helps
