Bootcamp-windows version

What version of Windows can I run? 7? I've tried to install an older version of XP with service pack2 , the hard drive has partitioned, but the Mac has a coniption trying to load the XP disc.
iMac 6.1 [ 2007 I think] / core 2 duo 2.33ghz / snow leopard 10.6.3 / boot camp 3.0.1 .
I'm also confused by the 32/64 bit stuff . Snow-lep is 64 right. The boot camp partition is 'fat32'. I don't know about my Intel chip. Does Window7 come in 32 & 64? Does it matter?
I'm going to have to buy the new software so I want to be 100% sure before buying.

Hi Sran and welcome to Discussions,
General BootCamp Support page http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
BootCamp allows you to install Windows XP with SP2, Windows Vista or Windows 7
Macs that can use/install 64-bit Windows 7 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
Whether using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 mainly depends on two things:
1. Do you have Windows programs that need 64-bit Windows ?
2. Do you have more than 4GB of RAM in your Mac ?
With 32-bit Windows the useable RAM will be limited to something around 3GB to 3.5GB out of 4GB depending on the Mac you have.
This is a limitation of Windows itself.
With 64-bit Windows all the installed is useable.
Whether to get XP or WIndows 7 to me is a matter if you already have a Windows XP license or not.
If you have to buy a new Windows I would suggest to go directly to Windows 7.
And avoid Vista at all costs
FAT32 is a file system used for harddisk partitions and the like. It has nothing to do with 32-bit/64-bit Operating Systems.
Another option you might wanna have a look at, is the possibility to use a Virtualization app, like VirtualBox, Parallels or VMWare Fusion and install Windows with them.
All three have the advantage over BootCamp that you don't need to reboot your Mac to switch form OSX to WIndows or back, but rather use Windows alongside OSX.

Stefan

  • Witch specifikation will i need to run AutoCad via bootcamp (Window version)

In order to run AutoCad on a Macbook Pro via bootcamp, what kind of specification will i need ???
I´m thinking about the 17 inch Macbook Pro.
About processors i have to choises, either the 2,2 with 6 mb L3 and turbo-boost up to 3,4 or
    the 2,3 with 8 mb L3 and turbo-boost up to 3,6
Next there is Ram, how much will i need ??? Again i have to options, eigther 4 or 8
I´m going to study next month and i haven´t woorked with AutoCad before, however i wan´t a system running perfektly and completely without any problems what so ever.
Now it would be pretty ekspensive for me to upgrade, so i´ll only do it, if i really have to, in order to get that perfektly running system.
What do you say ?, Have an idea ?

Yes, but I am inclined to agree with user Templeton Peck - I prefer Boot Camp.  Otherwise I was MAX OUT the ram upgrade.  And isn't it FRUSTRATING how expensive the new AutoCAD by Autodesk for MAC is?!?!  It's twice the price of a new MAC!  NUTS!  I did give the free trail a go & have to say that I like it....but not when I've already paid for a PC copy!  Frustrating, just frustrating...
BTW - recently upgraded to the i7 15"MBP w/ Thunderbolt.  LOOOOVE it!  Can't wait to see what Thunderbolt technology will bring...glad I waited.
    Cheers!

  • I have switched from PC to Mac how do i use my windows version  of adobe photoshop CS3 on my MAC?

i have switched from PC to Mac how do i use my windows version  of adobe photoshop CS3 on my MAC?

    rebel1568,
All Photoshop versions through CS6 came with platform-specific licenses, either Windows or PC.  You could get a cross-grade of platform swap at a nominal cost but not for older versions, only for whatever Photoshop versions was current at the time.
CS3 is totally out of the upgrade or cross-grade loop.  You'd have to buy a new license for CS6 Mac or subscribe to Photoshop CC, as Trevor points out.
Curt Y is correct in that CS2 will not run on current Mac-Intel machines.  You would need a used Mac G5 or G4 with a PowerPC (IBM) CPU, which have been obsolete since mid 2006.
Of course, you could run your Windows  on your Mac if you installed and ran BootCamp or Parallells.

My Macbook Pro has a black screen when running in Bootcamp Windows 7. Since I updated the mac side my windows side now starts up with completely black screen - no prompt, nothing, Cap keys still light up as does mouse and DVD drive seems to run.
Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Need HDCP-recognizing Bootcamp Windows driver for MacBook Pro's screen

I need a Bootcamp Windows driver for my MacBook Pro 15/Retina (MBR) that recognizes that the MBR's built-in screen in HDCP-compliant.  The current Bootcamp drivers for Windows do recognized HDCP on an external HDMI-connected display, but do not recognized HDCP on the internal display.
BTW, I've read some statements that Windows drivers don't recognize HDCP via DisplayPort connections, so I wonder if Apple is using internal wiring that acts like it's a DisplayPort connection?
Please do not suggest things that only enable disabling DRM HDCP protection from Blu-Ray discs.  I need a solution that to cooperate with DRM HDCP protection for content from live tuners, not from a Blu-Ray or DVD disc.
My application is using Windows Media Center (WMC) to play streaming content from my Silicon Dust HD HomeRun Prime (HDHR3) cable TV tuner on my MBR's built-in screen.  This works fine with an external HDMI-connected (HDCP-capable) display, but I also want to get this working on my laptop's screen for when I'm stuck in bed (illness, bad back, etc.).  The only application Silicon Dust offers for viewing HDHR3 tuner output on Windows (or any platform, as far as I know) which supports all protected cable channels is WMC, and WMC relies on the Apple-provided Windows NVIDIA drivers for HDCP capability.  The NVIDIA Control Panel explicitly recognizes my external HDMI-connected monitor's HDCP capability, but does not recognize the MBR's internal screen has having any HDCP.  This causes WMC to prevent the display of any TV channels at all from the HDHR3 when the only screen is the internal one (and it blocks DRM-protected channels if both screens are active in parallel).
I'm thinking that the best solution would be an NVIDIA driver for the built-in GeForce GT 650M for Windows 8 (or 7) which recognizes HDCP capability via DisplayPort.  Is there anything like that?  Or, alternately, some add-in driver that adds a layer of HDCP capability recognition to the standard drivers?
Is there any currently-available solution?  . . . something that will enable the internal screen to play all the tuner's cable channels including DRM-protected ones (either on Bootcamp'ed Windows or on the OS X side)?
P.S. -- FYI, the only other potential app I've read about for using an external tuner with a MacBook is an OS X version of MythTV, but (a) that requires an excessively long list of geek tweek steps (install an SQL application, create an SQL database, do lots of command-line tweaks, add & configure a backend app and then a frontend app, ... ) and (b) even then it seems it doesn't support channels that aren't marked "copy-freely", i.e., HDCP-enabled DRM protected content.

Strange -- sig's comment seems gone now.  I wonder why.
Anyway, I did try the latests NVidia drivers yesterday, afterall they explicitly say they added HDCP over DisplayPort, but no joy.  In the NVidia control panel (for Windows), external displays via HDMI have a left-menu section for HDCP that explicitly shows it's working, but there is still no such indication for the internal display, and I am still unable to use WMC with HD HomeRun Prime cablecard tuner to play anything on the screen except channels that the provider marks "copy freely" (e.g., Bloomberg news channel 722 isn't playable, but MSNBC 723 is playable).
My guess is that maybe laptop internal displays don't explicitly have internal DisplayPort and HDCP technology but have some kind of exception that normally allows playback?
As an alternative I wish there were cablecard tuner playback software on the OS X side that could play more than "copy freely" cablecard-tuned material, but there doesn't seem to be anything comparable to Windows Media Player that supports that.  (Now it should be clearer why this discussion belongs under MacBook Pro and not under Bootcamp where the moderators moved it.)

  • Bootcamp Windows 7  to play LoL on MacBook pro

System requirement To play lol https://support.leagueoflegends.com/entries/234272-system-requirements
The following are the minimum and recommended system requirements for running League of Legends on a PC:
    Minimum System Requirements:
    2 GHz processor
1 GB RAM (Windows Vista and 7 users will want 2 GB of RAM or more)
2 GB available hard disk space
Shader version 2.0 capable video card
Support for DirectX v9.0c or better
Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. (Note: Mac OS and Linux are not currently supported.)
    Recommended System Requirements
    3 GHz processor
2 GB of RAM (Windows Vista and 7 users should use 4 GB of RAM or more.)
6 GB available hard disk space
GeForce 8800 or equivalent video card (Dedicated GPU with 512MB+ Video Memory(VRAM))
Support for DirectX v9.0c or better.
Windows XP with the latest service pack installed, Windows Vista with the latest service pack installed, or Windows 7 (As stated above: Mac OS and Linux are currently not supported.)
The latest update to .NET Framework from Microsoft
    Question:
Can I play LoL if I bootcamp windows 7 on MacBook pro 15-inch: 2.3 GHz?
    2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
    4GB 1600MHz memory
    500GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory
    Built-in battery (7 hours)2

If you're gonna do it via Bootcamp, dedicating the entire hardware to Windows while running the game and already have the Mac, don't see a problem.
If you're deciding whether to buy that Mac or not for this purpose, might want to get the 2.6GHz model instead. Twice the RAM, twice the VRAM and more disk space to set aside for the dedicated Bootcamp partition.

  • Imac with AMD Radeon 6770m chipset will not allow brightness adjustments in Bootcamp Windows 7

I've encountered a Video Issue with the new Imac 22" Cinema display units that have the integrated AMD Radeon 6770M chipset when booted to Bootcamp Windows 7 (no difference what version) Enterprise edition in my case.   I am unable to adjust the brightness intensity that is currently locked at full brightness.
In the past the Apple keyboard would easily adjust the brightness or I could use the Bootcamp Control Panel and use a slider to change the brightness settings.  The keyboard function keys (F1 and F2) pop up the brightness control options and shows the onscreen slider moving as I am changing the display setting but there is no actual brightness change.  The Bootcamp Control Panel has actually removed the Brightness Tab as if to indicate this freature is not available. (Bootcamp version 3.2 and 3.3).    I can Image this Win 7 copy to an 21" Wide Screen 2009 release of the Imac that has a Nvidia Chipset and the Bootcamp Control Panel now displays the Brightness Tab AND the Keyboard control option works perfectly.
    Suggestions?
    Pete

You're probably seeing bad performance because you don't have the latest graphics drivers installed. The ones provided by Apple's Windows support software are long out of date. Going to AMD's main website and navigating to the download section won't get you the correct files. This is a direct link to the proper driver.

  • What windows version is best for my mid-2011 27inch iMac?

    L.S.
I'd like to Bootcamp windows on my mid 2011 27inch iMac.
What version of windows will give me the least amount of problems.
Also, my Dvd drive isn't working. Is this going to be a problem?
    Thanks in advance!

Windows 7 would be the best as XP doesn't have security updates coming in.
A friend of mine has dual booted to windows 7 for gaming and hasnt had any issues.
Just install with a USB and not using an ODD.

  • Bootcamp Windows update

I created my Bootcamp Windows since Leopard and just upgraded to ML.  I believe my Bootcamp Windows should not be the latest version.  Can someone advise me how to upgrade my Bootcamp Windows to the latest and where to locate the version of Bootcamp Windows.  Thanks!

Install IE11 cured my bootcamp glitch after Mavericks upgrade. Windows 7 now updates properly. Hope this saves some more folks from blowing away their bootcamp volumes.

  • Radeon HD 6970M in Bootcamp (Windows 7) configuration

I have searched and found a few threads concerning the Radeon HD 6970M in Bootcamp (Windows 7) but so far I've not found if I really need to do anything other than just stay with the Bootcamp drivers or if I should be getting drivers from AMD.  I'm using Flight Simulator X which needs all the help it can get and I suspect that some kind of tweaking will give it a boost.
Can anyone help please?  I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Yeah its all very strange, in my opinion it must be something to with the drivers. After I had relised that something had seriously changed with my hardware setup in the way windows recognizes the graphics card, I tried reinstalling different versions of the drivers for the AMD Radeon HD 750M and one version gave me a small improvement of about 0.2 in the windows user experience thing scale in the category that scores the graphics (cant remember which version the driver was was as it was a spur of the moment thing) so could be a driver problem but it was working fine using the preview drivers AMD provided on their web site before.
I have also tried using the the original disk that bootcamp created during the install to re-install origianl divers (basically all the necessary drivers for windows to recognise hardware in Macbook Pro) and that never made any difference.
This also happened before the windows update that you wrote about Cuziuzi (its was an optional update for the windows 64bit) because I installed this after battlefield 3 had died on me thinking it might resolve the problem.
on a sidenote steam is refusing to lauch games on osx and i'am the process of re-downloading the game again to  try and fixes the issue (have only got L4D2).
I am going to look into it tomorrow and try to figure out what the problem is and post some info about drivers specifications and some more clarifying information.
Hopefully my GPU is not in the process of dying on me after the constant heat bombardment it has to endure thanks to Apples great design philosophy of visual aesthetics over functionality, fingers crossed Battlefield has not fried it!
Also cziuzi what's ur hardware specs?

  • Updating windows version

    hi,
i just want to know if it is possible to update the windows version (ex. from win7 to win 10) via bootcamp without loosing all data from windows. do i have to make a complete new partition and deinstall win 7 at first ? how do i upgrade the windows version the best way?
    thanks

Take a backup of W7. Boot into W7. If W10 is an ISO, burn it to a DVD, if possible. Use an external Optical Drive and insert this DVD and run setup.exe from the DVD. Choose Upgrade option in W10 installer. You can also use Rufus USB Builder or https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200124.aspx to build a W10 Bootable USB and upgrade W7. Please ensure that your USB is a USB2 device.

  • I upgraded to Lion and now my bootcamp/windows option is either gone or inaccessible....what happened? how do I fix it?

I downloaded and installed Lion, now there doesn't appear to be a bootcamp/windows option.  I thought it would install on the Mac partition, and the program didn't ask anything...just went and did the installation.  Is the Windows side gone, or is it just hiding?
