Bootcamp with win7 and vmware fusion...togheter

Is it possible?
I need a partition with bootcamp installed and also a virtual win7 in order to not reboot everytime i need to use windows.
Sorry for my english.
Thank U.

Of course. Also, VMware Fusion allows you to virtualize your Boot Camp partition, so you don't have to install Windows 7 twice.
Your computer only supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, so install Windows 7 by following Apple's steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf You should download the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant or from the Apple site, so you can install it after finishing the Windows installation.
Then, start up in OS X (hold the Alt key while your computer is starting, and choose Macintosh HD), open VMware Fusion and the Boot Camp partition will appear. Start it up and you will be able to use OS X and Windows at the same time

  • Display Questions with Retina and VMware Fusion (Windows 7/8)

Looking to buy my first MacBook Pro and looking to make sure I get the specs I need and have a couple of questions.
I would like to be able to run (simultaenously)
    During the day for work:
Windows 7 x64 - 30GB HD - 1 Core - 1GB Ram - Purpose: Has a VPN client that allows me to VPN and RDP only
Windows 8.1 x64 - 60GB HD - 2 Cores - 4GB+ Ram - Purpose: Office 2013 installed on this VM and all my other work applicatons (light weight)
OSX 10.10 - Whatever it can take - Light Web Browsing etc while at work.
    After work:
Guess it doesn't matter really - i'd like to play games (bootcamp fine) if possible too. Nothing crazy so barely worth mentioning.
    My main questions:
Display: Iris Pro or nVidia - Can the base 15 inch GPU/CPU handle the two VMs at the same time plus the host OS (OSX) without hiccups?
Display: How does VMware Fusion recognize the discrete GPU - will the system be smooth/quiet without activating it?
Battery life: Virtualization is pretty heavy battery wise. Does anyone know what happens to the battery when you're running a couple VMs?
Display: How is running Windows 7/8 on a MacBook with a specifically retina display? Do the Windows PCs look really ugly/blurry due to such a high resolution?
What is the minimum hardware required for these VMs to run fast and responsive? (CPU/GPU/RAM only)
    Thanks!!

Sorry - we're users here, just like you, and some questions just get lost sometimes.
The fastest hardware you can buy, the easier you'll be able to run Windows. If you use Boot Camp to run Windows (7, 8 or 8.1) the machine will run at it's best. If you want to run Windows alongside the Mac OS, you'll need to use a VM application (I use Parallels - I've tried VMwareFusion but like Parallels better and it just works best for me).
    So, to your questions:
The Retina machine with the NVIDIA GPU will be the fastest - it's a faster processor and has more VRAM.
Any VM is going to use resources - how much RAM, for example, is up to you. I have 16 GB of RAM and 8GB dedicated to Parallels/Windows 7 Pro.
I wouldn't (and you really can't) run a VM for very long on battery. If you're using VM's, that's the time to plug into mains. Running a 'couple' of VM would put further heavy use on your GPU, CPU and shorten your battery life.
I would make sure to get a good, fast quad-core i7 processor, the 2GB of VRAM NVIDIA GPU and the maximum amount of RAM (16GB).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion, possible problem with Bootcamp, cant see USB.

    Hey,
Would really appreciate your help. So I have MBP mid 2010 with the latest version of OSX Mountain Lion and decided to install Windows 7 on it. I gave it to the professional IT guy, who installed Windows 7 through the latest version of VMWare Fusion. It is not bad overall, but at times incredible slow (which might be because of my slow processor).
So I decided to install Windows 7 through the BootCamp Assistant - USB way. And did the following steps:
1)Format USB, put Windows 7 .iso image on it
    2) Installed the latest Windows software through the Bootcamp (step2 tick). However, it said that the latest version would be installed only after Windows 7 is installed (in step3 tick). I clicked OK and moved to Step 3
    3) I started Installing Windows and had a few errors (which were solved by repairing the HDD after rebooting in recovery mode), but all went fine until almost the end. Before the bar almost moved to the end my macbook went to reboot and I though it was all done and ready. I clicked the alt at *ding* sound and no USB was detected.
I checked disk utility and the thing was portioned.
I was thinking that MBP doesn't recognize the second Windows installed, and VMWare Fusion needs to be deleted in order to run Bootcamp. I haven't deleted anything, wanted to ask for advice first.
Any one could think of what's wrong? Thank you.

You can only install Windows from a USB in one of these computers:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - MacBook Air.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - iMac (Late 2012).
Your Mac doesn't support the Windows installation through a USB drive. However, you have installed Windows through a USB drive. What did you do?
You did an EFI installation (or a native installation). Apple doesn't support this option because of the huge number of problems it gives, and you have probably erased OS X (or you erased the Windows partition that Boot Camp created, both possibilities). The error you mentioned in 3) was probably that the Windows installer detected that you have a MBR disk instead of a GPT one, and you erased everything.
First of all, to make sure that you erased everything, hold the Option (Alt) key while your Mac is starting. If you see the OS X partition, start up from it, and make a complete backup of your files with Time Machine.
Then, what I recommend you is to erase the whole drive by starting in Internet Recovery (hold Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting), and use the Time Machine option to restore your files

  • Parallel desktop and VMware Fusion

    Hello,
I'm having a hard time figure out what's the best virtual machine to install on my MacBook Pro 2.4 Ghz. I don't like Bootcamp because it requires the reboot. I also looked at CrossOver but the performance was pretty bad so I removed it. I'm now looking at Parallel desktop and VMWare fusion. Can anyone please give me an advice, thanks.

I am using Parallels without problems. I have two XP machines set up, one where I run a couple of Access databases and a family tree database, and another that I use for testing different settings for student lab exercises etc. I also have a Linux Ubuntu machine set up, again for testing settings. The Ubuntu is not quite as seamless as the XP - I can't for example drag files between them.
Feel free to ask any specific questions.

  • Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion

I am confused about Bootcamp and Fusion. I installed XP to Bootcamp. Then I installed Fusion and installed XP there (it has been a while and I have forgotten the details). I always run XP from Fusion. It works fine. Recently I decided to boot into XP directly. When XP came up it told me it wasn't activated. So I went back to OS X and then Fusion.
    1) Do I have two separate XP installations? Or just two different entry points to the same installation?
    2) If I have two installations can I just delete the Bootcamp partition?
    3) How would I go about activating the Bootcamp XP installation?
    Thank you

If you want, there is Fusion VMware forum. But, you didn't tell Fusion to use the Boot Camp copy/version so while you could have shared one activation key for both, you can't have two separate the way you do now.
If you are happy with Fusion and don't really need the other (better for gaming and more hardware intensive programs) then use Boot Camp Assistant and regain back the partition, don't remove the partition with Disk Utility.

  • Windows XP OEM - Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion?

    Hi everyone,
I need to run Windows on my MBP and just purchased an OEM version of Windows XP with SP2 from ebay (I didn't even know what OEM was at the time - my fault for not doing some more research). I had wanted to install this in Boot Camp and then run my Boot Camp partition through VMWare Fusion when I needed to run both OS's at the same time - will I be able to do this? Or will I be able to only install it in either Boot Camp or VMWare Fusion (if either)?
If I can only install it in one, which would you recommend? I currently own a copy of MS Office for Windows and was going to run that because I need Excel desperately for the business program I am in and need it to run fast (I've heard MS Office '04 for Mac is sluggish for running intense tasks in Excel because of Rosetta on the Intel Macs).
Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you don't activate Windows natively, you can use and run it with VMware without having to change activation.
Rosetta is slow on startup and needs more memory. If you only have 1GB, might want more. Whether to run VMware or Office, 2GB is more comfortable. Your MacBook Pro should be able to run Office Mac or OpenOffice/NeoOffice.
See if VMware works without partitioning your drive which can be messy (read threads on "partitioning first also").
Using OEM copy is fine and can save quite a bit, as long as it is SP2 and - of course - works - though I would never buy it on ebay given you can get it from Newegg, Amazon etc. I am a paranoid skeptic of what and where software I install came from today.
Numbers doesn't seem to be a full replacement for Excel, but have you looked at NeoOffice?

  • Mouse problems with v10.7 Lion and VMWare Fusion 3.1.3; reboot of Lion temporarily fixes it

Since installing Lion, my VMWare Fusion 3.1.3 Windows 7 and XP virtual machines have very strange mouse problems.  I thought it might have been caused by 3rd party software on my iMac (Mouse Zoom), because it seemed to work after removing the software, but I have now discovered that it is actually the reboot of OS X v10.7 (and now v10.7.1) that temporarity removes the problem.  However, after a while the problem comes back, requiring another reboot of Lion.
The problem is strange behavior of mouse button clicks inside the virtual machine, e.g. unable to double click on a folder or program in Windows because it jumps back to the higher folder tree, as if I had hit the ESC key.  In addition to my USB and BlueTooth mice, the Mac touchpad also has the problem.  I have confirmed that the problem is probably in how VMWare maps the iMac human interface devices (HIDs) to the virtual mouse inside the VM, because I am able to get correct mouse function by attaching one of my mice directly to the Virtual Machine (there is an edit to the VMX file that enables HID devices).
I have deleted and reinstalled VMWare Fusion 3.1.3 per suggestions on the VMWare support site and/or various forums, but that did not help.

According to: http://roaringapps.com/app:61 Version 3.1.3 has issues with Lion.  There is a 2011 beta that works better.

  • How do I share printing between mac and Vmware Fusion?

I am trying to print from mac and from Windows XP installed in a virtual machine via VMWare fusion on my IMac. If I am able to print from Mac then when I switch over to Fusion and try to print it errors stating the the printer is disconnected. If I disconnect the USB and reconnect then it will print. Same with mac if it is printing okay on Fusion and I try to print from mac it acts like it is printing but it is not sent to the printer, if I disconnect the USB and reconnect then it prints. Printer sharing and window sharing is on. Any suggestions?

I suggest you post your question on the Microsoft Mac Office forums as that's where the Office gurus hang out...

  • Windows and VMware fusion

How do I uninstall Windows 7 on my MacBook?
I also want to uninstall my VMware fusion.
If I uninstall VMware Fusiun, will Windows 7 also be uninstalled automaticly?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
check with the VMWare Fusion manual on this.
To my knowledge uninstalling Fusion does not automatically uninstalls the Windows VM (Virtual Machine).
So you first have to delete the Windows VM through Fusion (or by simply deleting the VM files from your harddisk) and the uninstall Fusion itself by using its own Uninstaller.

  • Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment with BE7K and VMWare license

Hello, I am looking for some help trying to figure out if Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment can be used to upgrade our existing 7.1.5 cluster.  From what I have read there is a API problem with the VMWare license that comes with the BE7K.  But after reviewing the BOM/quote from my VAR it lists the foundation license which based of the release notes is supported.
    UCSS-U-VMW-FND-5-1
UCSS Cisco UC Virt. Foundation  Five Year - 1 server
Has anybody out there had expericne with PCD and BE7K'?
This is from release notes of PCD

Search for “Business Edition 7000” and it will state it is not supported with PCD.  It is because the licenses that the BE 6k and 7K are shipped with don’t enable certain VMware APIs that PCD needs.
    “Virtualization Software License Compatibility

Thanks Jamie for repsonding, we haven't made any purchase's yet but I wanted to ensure we are purchasing a solution that won't lead to a lot of frustration.  We only have 1000 phones so we are pretty small and the BE7K seems to be a good fit and value.

  • Is PDFMaker compatible with Win7 *and* MSWord 2003?

This is a follow-on question to my earlier question of Sept 6 "Is Acrobat Pro V9.4.4 compatible with Win7" answered by CtDave.
My co-worker uses XP, MS Word 2003 and Acrobat Pro V9.4.4. Before his last day, his license is to be transferred to my computer (MS Word 2003 and Win 7). Will his version of Acrobat Pro V9.4.4. work okay for 508 compliance purposes since I have both 2003 and Win7?
Just doublechecking with that additional information...
    Thanks,
    Neysa

Win 7, Office 2003 is bit of an awkward combination.
Best practice would be to update to the Office suite intended for the new OS.
MS Office 2003 applications are compatible with Acrobat 9.x PDFMaker.
So, configure Acrobat's PDFMaker to Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF.
Master a test file in Word and give use of PDFMaker to output PDF a try.
If you get the PDF walk the structure tree (in the Tags Panel).
Is all proper there? If yes, then you've a workable OS / Office / Acrobat combo.
    What is proper?
View this video from the PDF Association's PDF/UA Competency Center:
    http://www.pdfa.org/video/duff-johnson-what-a-pdf-developer-needs-to-know-to-implement-pdf ua-well/
Don't be dissuaded by "implementer" (aka developer).
Fact is that for a while yet it is the "in the trenches" end-users who have to use what is at hand to author and post-process the PDF.
The principles discussed in the video provide the punch list of what needs to be present.

  • Openvpn and vmware fusion - can os x and VM share a tun/tap device?

    tunnelblick 3.0b6
virtual machine is xp pro sp2
in mac os x tunnelblick is able to successfully create the vpn tunnel across the tun/tap device. when i execute ifconfig in terminal i see the tap device listed. when i look at system preferences -> network i don't see the virtual device listed. this is my first mac so i am not sure if that is expected behavior. just for the sake of comparison, the virtual device was listed in my "network connections" on my previous xp pro machine.
the vmware fusion windows xp VM however, only has access to the airport network connection. it would be nice if the xp vm could piggyback off of the os x tun/tap device. is this possible? at this point i am just going to install openvpn in the vm as well - nothing like having multiple vpn connections from the same hardware
i have read that tunnelblick has some issues on 10.5, but i have only noticed odd behavior when my laptop goes to sleep.
    thanks for any help!

So I'm a recent convert to Mac from Vista, and have the same config you do...
Use tunnelblick to establish the VPN, and configure your VM to Share the network connection (NAT). This will then allow your XP client to route traffic through the VPN tunnel.
I've also noticed issues w/ Tunnelblick VPN's when my MacBook goes to sleep (usually when I close the lid to go to a meeting). I'm sure there is some Mac Expert that has a "preferred" method to resolving this, but I found that going into Activity Monitor and forcing a quit on the "openvpn" process fixes the issue. This is basically resetting the tap0 adapater.
    Hope this helps.

  • Security Issues with Win7 and CS4

In CS4, When I try to save a file to which I have made a change, I get the message:
"Could not save N.....(title) because the file is locked. Use the Properties command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file"
Really? I have 10's of thousands of files which, if I want to add a layer and save, I have to go back to Bridge, locate in Explorer, click Properties and change "All Users" to full control.
    That's obscene!
When I get there, "Everyone" is highlighted and given only read and read/execute permissions, on the Security tab. The file isn't locked AFAIK The "Read" box is blank. I can change permissions, but it's good for only this one file, and when looking at Security settings globally, "Everyone" isn't listed.
I need to find a global way around this, and I cannot find it. I am logged on as Admin, and I know there is another layer of Admin. Can that be invoked globally, and how? Is this the right way or is there another? Is it a Photoshop problem or OS problem?
    Thanks!

That's where I looked, but that's not the right place.
Nothing like noodling a paradox like the Russell "Set of All Sets" to get you going!
I went back to XP to see what happens there. No problem. BUT, I did see a commonality (the paradox breaker looms!) Both the "Edit" folder and "N" drive are shared on the network.
I broke the connection and now it works fine.
If you go to a particular folder or drive in Win7 and click "Share", the first line in the menu that opens says "Nobody"!!
    Need I say more?
    Thanks, Charlie. You did help.

Can you link to the parallels thread?
I can reliably reproduce a kernel panic in 10.4.8 by ejecting a volume mounted from a host system (default afp mount) that is either of two macintel systems (mini & mbp).
Problem started when I installed Fusion, went away when I de-installed. Both systems also have Parallels (latest build but one) installed.
The workaround of unloading the networking kexts makes me nervous -- sooner or later I'll forget, and then KABLOOEY!
