Bootcamp with Windows 7 Home Pro on a Mac Mini 2.26...

Forgive me if a similar thread is posted somewhere with the same topic.
I just recently installed this, actually over the weekend to expand my gaming library not wanting to buy a PC. It seems to work remarkably well and runs Steam and the games that aren't native Mac well! It works so well, that I'm thinking about doing the same to my MBP which is slightly higher in specs...
I use my MBP for music/work and I'm just a little concerned it may cause issues... Any feed back would be great.... I'm just wondering if I was extremely lucky to not run into issues.

  • Want to be sure it's OK to install Windows XP Home on my New Mac mini

Last night I bought the Mac mini with DVD SuperDrive, 120GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and Leopard. At the Apple Store. Got an adapter so I can hook the mini up to my 23" Cinema Display (1998 vintage). Also got Fusion.
At another electronics store, I got Windows XP Home. I want to be sure the "home" version is OK on the mini. I have Windows XP Pro on a Dell laptop, but it came pre-installed, and I don't have a copy. I am told the Dell version wouldn't work on the mini anyway.
I got the mini because I rely on Adobe FrameMaker to make my living. Adobe has chosen not to upgrade Frame for Mac OS X, so I've been using it in Classic mode on my G4 Cube (currently running OS X, v 10.4.11). But Frame is seriously misbehaving now, and Apple no longer supports OS 9 Classic, even though it's associated with OS X. So my brilliant solution to the Adobe Frame problem is to RUN the Windows version of FrameMaker 7.2 (which I own) on the mini in Windows.
I'm looking for advice, if any, about what to do first, second, etc. And an answer about Windows XP Home being OK.
BTW, I have skimmed through this forum about 20 pages, and it's great. --Spot

That is a very good question, Dino, and I don't know the answer. This thread doesn't seem to be getting much attention and you might have better luck posting your question at the boot camp forum. I'm sure one of the veteran members will have an answer for you any time now.
Of course you could experiment and just try installing it; if your computer is relatively then it's not a big deal; you can back up your files on a flash drive and reconfigure you machine quickly. Reinstalling OSX takes awhile if you FUBAR your mini but I've done it once already. Still I wouldn't recommend anything that risky until you've got an answer from someone who knows.

  • Bootcamp with Windows Vista

Does installing bootcamp with Windows Vista significantly slow down a mac with a noticeable difference? I have a pretty new mac and am thinking about using this function. Does it make more sense to install windows xp? And what is a good amount of space to leave for the windows side to have?

Does installing bootcamp with Windows Vista significantly >slow down a mac with a noticeable difference?
What do you mean by this? Slows down the whole system? Or the performance of windows?; since you mentioned XP on your later question.
I have tried both windows (vista & xp) on a macbook, and for performance, xp is faster.
as for the whole system (macosX & windows) no diffrence in boot up and speed
as for partition size of windows... that would depend on you whether your mp3, pics, videos would be used on windows or mac... mine is 20gb with no problem

  • Can I run a windows software program taht is on a CD on my macbook pro after I install bootcamp and windows xp home?

Can I run a windows software program that is on a CD on my macbook pro after I install bootcamp and windows xp home?

    genepaquin,
the last MacBook Pros that supported installing Windows XP in a Boot Camp partition are the Mid 2010 models. If your MacBook Pro is newer than that, and you don’t have a newer version of Windows to install into a Boot Camp partition on your MacBook Pro, then you might consider an alternative such as running Windows with the help of programs such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop rather than through Boot Camp.

  • My computer with Windows 7 Home updated to Firefox v34.0.5 but my two computers running Windows 7 Pro haven't yet updated beyond Firefox v34.0. Something wrong?

See info above. I have re-run the update process at least 10 times on both machines running Windows 7 Pro (most recently this morning), and each time both machines running Windows 7 Pro (one is 64-bit, one is 32-bit) say that Firefox v34.0 is "up to date". I checked Mozilla.org, which states that Firefox v34.0.5 was released in mid-December, but it didn't say anything about whether that update was only for certain OSs. I have also run multiple anti-virus scans from different providers on both machines running Windows 7 Pro, and all scans indicate no issues.
Please advise is there are different versions of Firefox for Windows 7 Home/Pro, or if I am having an issue. If I am having an issue, please advise how I can correct it.

Hello StevenBeary, the 34.0.5 release it is for all users who download a fresh version of Firefox, or download it for the first time. This release will NOT be found via Firefox's update.
Firefox 34, it is the latest release via update. You are OK.

  • MacBook Pro with Window XP Home...

    Hi,
Once we disable Norton Internet security for 10 minutes it seems that my wife's Windows XP/Aim can initiate/invite me to video chat but I am unsuccessful when I try to initiate video chat.
    1) How can we make it so that my wife (Windows XP Home) does not have to manually shut of the internet security temporarilly?
    2) How can I successfully initiate the vid chat calls?
    3) Will the solutions to the above questions allow us to successfully pass along pictures and music files?
    Thanks a lot!

    HI SC00,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
Ok to pass pics and files the modem and the Mac firewall need to have port 5190 open to the UDP protocol.
    Have you done this ?
The Linksys can use UPnP to open the ports.
The Mac firewall settings are like this http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html (Tiger and Panther versions shown)
iChat sends and receives invites on port 5678 but as your can see invites this appears to be open.
AIM needs the same port 5190 open to UDP and TCP for the same functions as iChat uses this port for.
To allow incoming Video chats AIM needs ports 1024-5000 opened in her Modem.
The Xp firewall at Service Pack 2 can be opened like this
http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html#_Service which should be the same ports in the Norton when the XP firewall is Off.

  • Bootcamp and windows 7 home premium

I am planning on installing windows 7 home premium with bootcamp for my macbook pro retina display (mid2012) OSX 10.8.2
The question is which version will work?
I have looked on amazon and there is the normal version that was 199.99 and they droped to around 160 something
Then i see plenty of other version of windows 7 home premium that say "system builder DVD 1 pack" or OEM version and they are only $95-ish
I know that i dont want to buy the windows 7 upgrade i just want to install the OS on my mac..... The upgrade and that "system buidler" are both under $100 which makes me think that they are something else then the disks to install windows 7 home premium on my mac.
    Anyone know the differences?

I bought a Windows 7 home premium SP1 64-bit OEM software disk for $95.  I installed it onto my MacBook Pro using bootcamp and the install worked perfectly without any problems. During the install process you'll need to type in the product key that comes with the Win 7 disk. After the install was complete I clicked on "Activate Windows via internet" and after a second a message came back saying that Windows is now activated.
As others have mentioned, my install of Win 7 OEM is now married to this specific computer. I cannot install this OEM version onto another computer.  If you plan on replacing your mac in the near future buying the full retail version of Win 7 is a better bet since you can install the retail version onto a newer computer.
My MacBook Pro is brand new so I won't have a need to move the Win 7 to another computer. I hope this helps.

  • Formatted HP dm4-3099se with Windows 7 Home Premium and Would Want to Re-install the Home Premium

My laptop is HP Pavilion dm4-3099se and it came with Windows 7 Home Premium. The password was misplaced and I was advised to format the system. The system was formatted (all the disks were deleted except the C: drive) and a Windows 8 pro OS installed. Shortly after the formatting, the misplaced password was found. If it is possible, I would love to revert to the OS that came with the system (i.e Window Home Premium) and also recover all the drivers that came with the system.
    Please, help me.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    There are Two options available.
    1.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - these will reinstall the operating system, all required drivers and nearly all of the original software ( the exception often being trials of MS Office ).  They will also re-create all the original partitions, including the Recovery Partition.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
    2.  Another option you could consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.
Also, if possible, back-up the swsetup folder that can be found at the root of your C drive.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source ( Digital River ).
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Regarding the drivers etc you need, if you were able to back-up the swsetup this will contain all the software and driver installers for your notebook - if you weren't able to, drivers and software you may need can also be found Here.
    Best regards,

    Question
better privacy does not work with windows vista home prem. what other program removes LSO'S AND HOW can I stop trackers? edit
    Details

As a temporary workaround, I believe this Adobe management page allows you to clear your "Flash cookies": [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Website Storage Settings panel] (hosted on macromedia.com -- Macromedia was the original developer of Flash).
Regarding the script error, if I'm reading the script correctly, it is related to accessing your Flash cookies directory. It seems the publisher's support forum is not currently available for searching, but that might be a good next step.
In the meantime, could you check whether the script has the correct location for your Flash cookies directory? If you can't access Tool > BetterPrivacy, you could check here:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''bpr''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) There should be a bolded setting named '''extensions.bprivacy.DataDir''' which looks approximately like the following:
    C:\Users\''yourWindowsUsername''\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia
Do you have a similar value? If you paste the path used by BetterPrivacy into a Windows Explorer window, does it open? Also, click a couple levels in the folder, can you see:
    Flash Player \ #SharedObjects
If the value is wrong, right-click the wrong value and choose Reset. BetterPrivacy should update the value the next time you try to access it.
If the value is blank, you could try inserting a sensible value and see whether that helps.
    Any luck?

  • Cannot open iTunes 8 with Windows Vista Home Premium

Hopefully someone here can help me with my problem. I have a new Ipod Touch that needs itunes 8 to work. I have a new HP PC with Windows Vista Home Premium. The problem I'm having is: itunes & quicktime will download successfully onto my computer, but after download will not open. I receive the error message "itunes has stopped working...A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I have tried to open them from desktop & from programs ...will not work. I was using itunes 7 with no problems, but after upgrade to the new version (itunes 8) I started having this problem. Here are a few of the things I have tried so far with help from just about every tech support I could find: uninstall & reinstall itunes (tried this several times..didn't help, but itunes installs successfully each time)...try installing quicktime & itunes separately (didn't help)..disable firewall & virus protection (didn't help)...turn off Data Execution Prevention (DEP) (didn't help)...tried saving software to discs & installing itunes that way (didn't help)...I have updated all of my software including windows vista...I've run virus checks...& pretty much run checks on anything else I could find. I occasionally get the same error message when I try to open Rhapsody, but not every time. I'm thinking of using my backup discs & restoring my computer to factory settings. To do that would be a last resort, but I am getting pretty close to desperate. Does anyone think restoring it would help? If anyone has any ideas for me to try I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.

You need to to check to see if your Quicktime works normally. Itunes will not work if QUicktime doesn't.
If Quicktime doesn't work, describe what happens with any error message in full.
Go to your control panel and try to start QUicktime preferences. In XP you need to be in classic view to see it, I am not sure about Vista.
Give the full text of any error message.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar
If so uninstall them, they are bad news for Quicktime.
    Report back with your results.
If Quicktime is OK have you seen the Apple troubleshooting article for launch failure, I guess you have probably done quite a bit of it anyway, but is worth going through it systematically:
