BootCamp won't boot after  security update 2010-001

I just installed the security update 2010-001 and my bootcamp partition is not booting anymore is stopping on a black screen with a white line (cursor), just before the splash screen of winxp.
Anybody else had the same problem?
Somebody can solve this?
Thanks

Sorry probably my question wasn't clear. I'll try to explain myself better. After installing security update 2010-001 the bootcamp doesn't boot anymore. If I try to boot it, it remains on the black screen and there is the flashing underscore. Please help me, I don't know what to do!
Thanks

  • After Security Update 2010-001: Airport Card Not Detected

Currently running OS X 10.5.8 on a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro.
Here's the issue. When I boot up the machine and click the AirPort drop down it tells me that there is no airport card detected. Under system profiler it says the same thing. If I boot to a 10.6 Mac OS Install DVD and open system profiler, the AirPort card is detected. This occurred after a reboot prompted by the Security Update 2010-001.
So far I have repaired permissions and repaired disk. No fix.
I reset the PRAM/NVRAM and SMC. No fix.
I booted to an OS X image on an external drive. No fix.
I cannot boot to the Apple Hardware Test (D at startup) because my company requires PGP disk encryption. I could decrypt but this would take at least 6 hours (not counting re-encrypting afterwards).
I tried replacing the extensions. No fix.
There were no firmware updates applied or any other major OS updates.
Anyone have anything else I can attempt?

    anyone else see that??
Yes, Already covered in full here. Strange but no problem.

  • IMac wakes from sleep by itself after security update 2010-001

Since installing last weeks security update 2010-001, my iMac has suddenly started waking up when it should be asleep. Now I've had Auto Sleep problems with my iMac before, but this problem of finding my iMac running when I left it asleep started immediately after the update. Now, one thing additional I've notice since the update is that I often see the message on the screen "Keyboard Connected" when it always was or should have been and I wonder if this is related to my iMac waking up. Anyone else seen this problem since the update or have any ideas?

Thanks to you both for suggestions, but I still have the same problem after trying them and as I said in my title this only started after the 2010-001 security update. As a test I put my iMac to sleep at 13:35 and it woke up by itself at 13:46. Here is the console log below, does it help at all in finding the root cause?

  • IMac (Early 2009) always wakes from sleep after Security Update 2010-001

I posted this already in the Snow Leopard section, but wasn't able to get a resolution to the problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2309613&tstart=0
I tried all the suggested things, but my iMac still always wakes from sleep and this never happened before the 2010-001 security update. I was asked to paste the console log entry from when this happens, so here it is:
    28/01/2010 08:57:47 kernel Wake reason = OHC2
    28/01/2010 08:57:47 kernel System Wake
    28/01/2010 08:57:47 kernel Previous Sleep Cause: 5
28/01/2010 08:57:47 kernel USB (OHCI):Port 1 on bus 0x6 has remote wakeup from some device
I'm wondering if others have seen this and if so know of a solution. At the moment I'm stuck with having to shutdown my iMac every time I leave it. Thanks.

Here is a solution that should work:
    1. Turn off all Bluetooth devices connected to your computer.
    2. Make sure Bluetooth icon in the Menu Bar is black (BT is On) and BT is not connected to anything
    3. Plug in a USB mouse
    4. Go to System Preferences>Bluetooth>Advanced
    5. The option to "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" should now be uncheckable>Uncheck it and click OK
    6. Turn on your Bluetooth devices and let them connect to your Mac
    7. Try and put your Mac to sleep and then wake with the power button
    8. Check if the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" option is still unchecked (it should be)
    9. Try and restart your Mac and check again if the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" option is still unchecked (I had mixed results with this test, depending on the type of the Mac being tested)
Anyhow, this way you should be able to uncheck the option that causes the issue and it should not get checked again by itself unless you restart your computer and maybe even after that. If it does get checked again after reboot, just get used to putting your Mac only to sleep until a fix from Apple is available or repeat the above process after every reboot if necessary.
    Hope this helps.

macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Security Update 2010-001---   So secure I lost Admin Access!

I am running a Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Mini (I bought into the dual 500GB model) to host some documents and act as a small cross-platform dropbox for any kind of files that need to be shared over a biomedical research-related network. A little overkill but...
Anyway today I followed the software update prompt and installed Security Update 2010-001. After restart, I can no longer login as the administrator (or anyone else for that matter). Curiously, I can access it using +Server Admin+ and using +screen sharing+, all with the same old username and password as before. I just cannot login on the mini itself. Any thoughts on this issue? Potential was to resolve it? I have the 2nd drive configured as a Time Machine backup, so perhaps I can rewind to yesterday? Not sure how that works but I guess I can figure it out somehow.

    Per Oxfjell wrote:
How'd you regain access to the Mac Mini? I have currently locked myself out in the same fashion, and the only thing I can think of is to reinstall the server OS.. Funny thing is, I'm the only one with access at the moment, and all I did was a simple reboot.. I haven't tampered with passwords or anything of the kind. Why the admin password is suddenly not working is beyond me..
In the remote server access software, somehow I had inadvertently checked the button that allowed only limited access. The way I fixed it was to go to the Access pane of the Server Admin software, then I selected the button "For the selected services" button on the left and selected "Login Window" and finally clicked the button "allow all users and groups" on the right. This is counter intuitive because you don't want to allow access to everyone, but it will still require local management of the server (eg only those already allowed to login will be allowed after you check the button)
I hope that makes sense. It solved the problem for me and saved me a lot of hassle.

  • Security Update 2010-001 Client (Leopard)

Where does it show that Security Update 2010-001 Client (Leopard) is installed? I installed this update using <apple>-> Software Update.
It's apparently installed, because <apple>-> Software Update no longer lists it as an update. But <apple>-> About This Mac says I have:
    Mac OS X Version 10.5.8.
The Security Update is not mentioned.

"But <apple>-> About This Mac says I have:

It won't mention Security Updates. It only gives you the OS version and the build.

  • HTTPS connections timeout with Security Update 2010-001

I recently installed Security Update 2010-001 onto Snow Leopard and have difficulty accessing certain web sites from my browser (I have tried with both Safari and Firefox and they have the same problem). The issue in common with the problem sites is that they use akamai mirror servers to deliver their content over HTTPS connections. I can see from the Activity window that the redirected HTTPS connections to the akamai sites just hang and eventually timeout. This is new behaviour since installing the security patch and I was wondering if the Open SLL update in the security patch may have caused these connections to hang? Anyone have any idea (or where I could find out?)

  • Security Update 2010-001

I am not sure if this is the correct category, but here goes. I noticed that Apple released Security Update 2010-001 a few days ago. It has not shown up in my Software Update yet. I did check the Receipts folder and it is not there. Should I download it? Is there some reason it does not show up in SU?

I don't know why you didn't get this update via SU but you can always install it by hand
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/security_updates/securityupdate20100 01snowleopard.html
there is nothing wrong with doing that.

  • Eudora crashing since installing Security Update 2010-001

Eudora has been crashing 100% of the time since I installed Security Update 2010-001 for Leopard.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions for a resolution?
    Thanks.

I see that, like most others, you prefer IMAP. I have used both but I prefer POP. Mixing them on one client can have unfortunate consequences. I don't like any sort of web interface to mail. IMAP is very useful if you need portability but I contend that POP can be more secure if used as I do:
I access each account from time to time from more than one computer. Each computer acts as mail backup for the other as long as I remember to use each within my 122 day (4 month) setting. Since the computers are at different locations I have good protection from fire, disk failure or any other failure of my computers. A corrupt ISP employee can only access my emails for the last 4 months. To easily keep both clients the same I have a simple flat folder structure - one folder for each of the last 10 years.

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Security Update 2010-001

I had a MacBook Pro 15" 2006 , core duo 2GHz 100GB with Snow Leopard working fine, until I a) repaired permissions, b) installed single item "Security Update 2010-001" via Software Update c) restarted when I was told "you need to restart to finish this upgrade", restart later I chose to restart now. The MBP1,1 has blocked at a flashing Apple/'No-Entry/'? folder' grey/gray screen.
I have read http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1892?viewlocale=en_US , I have tried advanced repair techniques, PRAM, safeboot, X etc to as yet no avail.
I urge caution before applying this update on mission critical systems, I have read widely and many people have had no problems with Security Update 2010-001, but some have. I am an experienced Apple user - this is an anomaly, hopefully very rare. any other suggestions rather than total system restore?

    .... BUT NO ...
I'm still having the problem, but it's getting better and I'm not blaming the Security Update any longer.
I've been rebooting into Safe Mode (Shift while Switch-on) and investigating Library/Startup Items and User Login Items.
I don't know whether it's 10.6.2 or the Security Update, but one of them seems to have made the machine sensitive to the fact (my fault) that I had various old and presumably not-compatible items in Startup. Also, some of the software/drivers/plugins you find in Preferences (eg my Mouse driver, my pen tablet driver) seemed to be outdated. I've now given my collection of old software a bit of a spring clean, and 2 times out of 3 I can now reboot successfully.
... failing which, reboot in Safe Mode and try again.

Reason: Incompatible library version: X11.bin requires version 15.0.0 or later, but libpixman-1.0.dylib provides version 13.0.0
Is this a known problem? What can I do about it? Do I need to revert to a previous version of X11, or back out the security update?

I had the same problem and fixed it by downloading the latest from

  • After updating with Security Update 2010-001, Quicken will not auto update.  Auto update function in Preferences are also inop.  Numerous posts in Macbook discussions about similar problems with other apps.

Installed Security Update 2012-001.  Now Quicken will not auto save and the auto save function in Preferences cannot be changed. There are numerous similar comments in the Macbook discussions about other apps.   Come on, Apple, we need some help out here!

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
These symbols are from Apple's Last Resort font, and indicate that a major problem has arisen with the OS's ability to use the basic system fonts. It's been reported here a few times, and I think the only solution is to reinstall all system fonts. See Kurt Lang's post.
Here is a user tip by Kurt Lang that lists all necessary system fonts and their locations.
