Bootcamp won't work on MacBook pro i7 Lion

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my MacBook pro i7 with the latest lion os. It won't create the driver DVD download as it says it can't find the SuperDrive. Then it won't partition the main drive as it says there are large files it can't move! I don't really want to go down the defrag route. Please help. Cheers

Well, your only free method is to erase and restore your system.
Now, Superduper does a great clone with consolidating free space on restore and clones are bootable, so doubly useful.. So does Paragon's Clone (Windows) OS. Neither is free.
Disk Utilty: Restore
TimeMachine
free but sometimes the restore does not consolidate all the free space.
And yes those can. And you can't restore without booting from another drive or partition.
Safe Mode only applies to "pick yourself up by your own bootstraps" and defrags are long slow and inefficient. And should never be attempted without backups. The number of people that dont' backup; want free (they think programmer's time isn't worth anything I guess).
There is one method that people have stumbled and found worth trying:
Shrink your main HFS partition down by 105GB. Then undo and move back to full hard drive space.
Installers will fragment and use the inner tracks for temp files and changes. And some programs place file that remains locked.
Use Lion Recovery partition (command-r / or use Option key to select to boot from) to be able to unmount and repair your main drive.
Check Disk Utility: Help menu for tips and topics. Just like those "?" you fnid on most Windows programs. They often have what a person wants and links to support.

  • External optical drive won't work on macbook pro retina.

I have a macbook pro retina which doesn's have an optical drive. I have bought an optical drive. When I plug it in and put a disk in I can hear the disk spinning and the light comes on but nothing happens on my mac. It doesn't seem to recognise it. Any suggestions?

Just had that happen to me.
First, run Disk Utility and see if the SuperDrive (it is an Apple SuperDrive isn't it?) is listed. Is the disk you inserted shown? If not, hold down the option key and click the Apple menu - choose System Information and when that shows up, choose USB. See if it's listed there. If it is but neither the drive nor the disk you inserted appears on the Desktop, the side bar of the Finder window, or Disk Utility, return it for a refund (if it's within 14 days of purchase) or a replacement. That's what I had to do a few hours ago and the replacement works as it should.
BTW, if you want the disk you inserted back, and pressing the trackpad as you reboot doesn't eject the disk, as a last resort run Terminal and enter (copy and paste the following)
    /usr/bin/drutil eject
to try to force the disk to eject. It probably won't work (it didn't for me) but if it does, at least you get that disk back.

  • External microphone won't work on Macbook Pro

My external microphone won't work on my Macbook Pro.
My mic is an SE2200 A, and I'm pluggin that into a Behringer Eurorack UB802 (with Phantom power). This is then connected to a 1/4 inch to 3.5mm adapter so I can plug it into my Macbook Pro.
If I plug this directly into my Macbook Pro into the headphone socket (which I've been told doubles up as a mic socket), and go to Settings -> Sound -> Input, the mic does not appear on screen at all.
If I plug it into a 3.5mm to USB adapter, and plug it into a USB port on my mac, then the USB PnP Sound Device appears on the Settings -> Sound -> Input, but no sound is picked up.
Could any suggest why this isn't working?
    thanks

You have to use a cable that will break out the 3.5 mm TRRS jack into mic, L, and R.
I haven't found the right wiring yet and the cables I have tried don't seem to work.
See this post: What is the wiring digram on the MacBook Pro 3.5 mm TRRS jack?

  • Projector Won't Work with MacBook Pro

I'm trying to plug my projector in my MacBook Pro but for some reason when I plug my projector into my HDMI port on my MacBook it will change resolutions, go black, change resolutions, go black, and so on. It's a cycle and will only stay on each resolution for a few seconds. I would love to get this figured out so I can stream movies on a very large screen but it has left me scratching my head. I have a new MacBook Pro Retina 2.8GHz, 16 GB RAM, and Intel Iris Pro graphics coupled with the NVIDIA graphics if this helps. Also running the latest version of Yosemite.
    Thanks,
    Tyler

  • Internet won't work on MacBook Pro unless using ethernet cable

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me with this.  We recently got a new NETGEAR N600 wirelesss ADSL2 modem router and when trying to set it up I found I couldnt use my MacBook, we had to use a the old PC to do it.  The connection is set up and my iPhone and iPad as well as our PCs have no problem picking up the wireless signal, however I cannot seem to wirelessly connect wiht my MacBook Pro.  I hav e to use the ethernet cable if I want to use internet on my MacBook.  In Network Preferences it says wi-fi is connected however when I open up Safari it says that there is no connection.  My friends have also been experiencing this problem with their macbooks lately.
Does anyone know how to get around this?
    Thanks

    Reboot the modem.

  • How to get pop up reminders to work on macbook pro running lion

I presently have all of my devices, ipod, iphone and macbook pro syncing beautifully in icloud with one exception.  If I create a reminder it will pop up on my ipad and iphone, but not my macbook.  Sometimes I am at the macbook and want to see that popup from reminders.  I love that I can create it on my ipad and it shows up on my macbook in ical, but I don't get the same alert I will get on my ipad or iphone. I am just scatterbrained enough that those pop-ups are very helpful.  I have been in system prefs and ical prefs but not finding anything for this.  Help is appreciated

  • IMessage videochat won't work on MacBook pro?

If a friend calls me, it just has the preview window up and nothing else happens -- on their side, it says the call failed.
If I try to start the videochat, it pops up with an error. This is only a recent issue.
I have all of my updates done on my laptop, as well.

    Hi,
Your title says iMessages won't video.
The iMessages account in Messages does not do Video - invokes FaceTime.
If you mean you are trying to Video to an AIM or Jabber Buddy from your own AIM or Jabber account then the Messages App will do Video
In the Video Menu open th Connection Doctor and tell me what each of the options in the Drop down say.
In Capabilities it would be nice to know you can do 4 way Video and 10 Way Audio chats (it will say Multiple)
    Same at the other end.
I would also do a Speed check on your Internet Speeds at both ends

  • HT4245 my iMessage on my macbook pro mountain lion won't work.

this is a very frustrating problem
my iMessage on my macbook pro mountain lion won't work.
it keeps on saying that ive entered the wrong passcode.
i even have my firewall turned off
    plz help

    Ok...
So I bought my MacBook Pro second hand, and it came with no installation discs, but I got Mountain Lion and had it installed and decided to back it up to a disc in case of this scenario. I followed some instructions to make a bootable disc and used it to install a fresh copy of Mountain Lion back when I first got it.
My problem is that without the boot partition of my MacBook's hard drive it doesn't seem to want to boot the disc.
Since I didn't want to buy a disc and I don't have another MacBook or know anyone near me that does, I decided to download a hackintosh iso and use it along with my other laptop to install iPC 10.5.6....this installed successfully and my hopes were that my MacBook would be able to boot it, so I reinstalled my MacBook's hard drive and to my surprise it booted, although not normally. Since it is hackintosh it has some rewritten boot features so it's not a true OSX, but it is fully functional. Since I finally had OSX booted I figured I was in the clear and would be able to install Mountain Lion from this, but then I found out that you have to have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or later in order to install Mountain Lion.
Now I'm stuck with a hactintosh version of Lion and still no way to get back to Mountain Lion, is there anything I can do now that I have a functional OSX installation?

  • Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

  • Entire 5tgb row dosen't work on macbook pro

My entire 5tgb row dosen't work on macbook pro 13". Anyone have a solution to make it work. It start 2 days ago.

I don't know of any software problem that would disable only that column of keys on any keyboard.
But I guess anything is possible.
Just who are those people that say it is software.
Upgrading the os won't fix a hardware problem.
