Bootcamp Wont Load After Yosemite Install

Loner T,
My bootcamp does not load after Yosemite install.
Thanks

This is the first part of the recovery procedure. In your case, you have two OS X versions, so standard layout is not usable.
Please install GPT Fdisk (aka gdisk) (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/) if you have not done so yet.
You need to use the following steps. If you see any error messages during the following steps, please stop and post back here with the error message. The following steps have values from your Testdisk output (and you can verify) in Steps 7 and 8.
Rebuild GPT5 using start/end offsets
Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0
P  (print the full list of parts)
D  (delete)
5  (part 5)
N  (new part)
5   (part 5)
841717760 - Start offset in bytes  (start point for Bootcamp part)
+135055353 (Size offset as opposed to End offset)
0700     (Windows part type)
P           (print list of all parts just to see what changes will be made)
W         (Write the new GPT)
Y           (Yes! really write the new GPT)
This will delete and re-write the GPT partition info for /dev/disk0s5.
Reboot. Test that you can see the Bootcamp volume in Finder and see files in the Bootcamp volume.

  • Bootcamp Not Mountable After Yosemite Install

    Hi all,
I know there have been a bunch of questions related to Yosemite installations breaking Bootcamp, but from the ones I read through it appears as though my issues is slightly different (I don't seem to have any missing partitions).
Let me start by saying that in Disk Utility I can see the BOOTCAMP partition, but it is greyed out and not mountable.  When I reboot and hold down the command key to allow me to choose a boot disk it doesn't allow me to choose that disk and goes straight into OS X.
My hardware is a mid-2010 iMac 27 (2.8 GHz Intel Core i5) with an upgraded aftermarket SSD installed as the OS X boot disk (disk0), and the original 1TB hard drive as a secondary internal drive (disk1) containing a Mac partition (Macintosh HD is disk1s2) and by Windows 7 partition (BOOTCAMP is disk1s3).
I read through some of the other help threads and went so far as to download TestDisk, and I am able to find the NTFS BOOTCAMP partition on there, and see some or all of my windows files, but I am not sure how to proceed.
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • OS 9.1 wont load after I installed OSX. Help!

I installed OSX Tiger. I am unable to run Illustrator, finepix or other applications. OS9.1 attempts to start up to run these programs, but stops. It will not run either. It says to download OS9.2. I did, but to download it, you have to be able to load 9.1. I tried to load 9.1 using the desktop and also from the hard drive. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Also, my home e mail is [email protected] Thanks. Tim
ps, if my wife finds out she cannot run her graphics programs, I am through.

    I installed OSX Tiger.
Did you, by any chance, do an erase install?
    I am unable to run
Illustrator, finepix or other applications. OS9.1
Do you have the System CDs which shipped with your Mac? One should be an OS 9 boot CD, depending on exactly which G4 you have. Can you boot from that CD?
If you don't have your system CDs, do you have any OS 9 boot CDs? If you don't, you can get OS 9 CDs from places like <http://www.applerescue.com/?gclid=CN_6oInZmYgCFQY4HgodBDUlXg> and <http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?mfr=Apple&part=OS91CD&ref=Google%20 AppleOS9%2012175&gclid=CL6rtcrZmYgCFQ5PHgodbmULXA>

Are you trying to run Classic or to boot in OS 9? There's a difference.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My display is non hdcp compliant after Yosemite install

My display is non hdcp compliant after Yosemite install, fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Monitors flickering badly after Yosemite Install

Monitor flickering badly after Yosemite installed
I will be awaiting upDated drivers in a release soon.
I notice is very badly when I connect my iphone to ITunes screen
goes crazy flicker. . . . Anyone else having this issue ?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Start up using your original install discs by inserting the disc and holding the C key while rebooting. Run Disk Utility to repair the drive and restart. If everything goes ok run Software Update again.

  • Messages stuck in updating after Yosemite install

Messages stuck in updating after Yosemite install.  Tried re-install of Yosemite and quit messages, still unable to access.

    Hi,
Go to the ~/Library/Attachments folder.  (well it should be a folder).
If it is not a Folder then rename it and create a New folder with the same name.
    restart Messages.
Or if you have a Time Machine backup replace the Non folder item with an Original from just before the update.

  • My MacBook Pro's internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install

After upgrading to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro's (early 2011) internal SuperDrive has stopped recognizing CDs/DVDs after Yosemite install. It takes them in and will eject them with the keyboard button, but they will not mount. Disk Utility shows the SuperDrive and shows the inserted media, but will not mount the disk. That button is grayed out. Please help! I still have training libraries and music I access on such media. Thx!

UPDATE: I discovered some forum posts about a similar issue with Mavericks that recommended re-installing the system to fix the problem. I realized that I rarely restart my computer unless there's an update that requires it, and decided before undertaking a full re-install of Yosemite to simply restart my computer again. THIS WORKED! The SuperDrive is now mounting CDs and DVDs. Not sure what the issue was, but if anyone else has this issue I hope this will save you hours of frustration.

My computer is running slow after Yosemite install -but in the Mail program, when I open an email and then open the attachment -all is good -when I close the attachment the Mail program goes away, and I have to reopen it in my Dock -every time.

I tried this, but no luck. I went to Previous System>Users. There is nothing inside the "Users" folder, so I hit a dead end.
I can find my new e-mails -- those that came in since I re-installed the system -- in my NEW system (which I did to see if I was correctly understanding the advice), by going to Users>Home>Library>Mail>POP account name>Inbox.
Let me add a new question: I am running PhotoShop C3. It opens OK, and I can use it, but when it opens I get this message: "One or more files for Adobe Application Support folder are missing. Please re-run the PhotoShop installer."
I don't like re-installing working programs if I can avoid it, because it always seems to lead to other issues. Any idea what files are missing, and where it/they might be in the Previous System folder?
    thanks
    Mike

Knock on wood, this seems to have been my problem as well.  I stumbled on this thread after dealing with this ridiculously-long boot times for the past several weeks.
I just reinstalled McAfee Antivirus and my Macbook Air booted up in less than 1 minute.  No more hanging on the boot-up progress bar.  No more hanging after I click on my user's avatar on the log-in screen.  Bootup would often take 5+ minutes and sometimes never complete.
    This has been SUPREMELY frustrating.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING YOUR RESPONSE!!!
