Bootcamp: XP often disconnected in wireless

I have MacBook Pro, OS X 10.4.10 and Windows XP, using Bootcamp.
And, I have a netgear router at home.
With Mac OS, I have no problem of the wireless connection. It's working good all the times. However, when moving onto XP, the wireless connection often goes off. It happens too often. For the wireless security, I am using WEP.
Does anyone give a hint to resolve this issue?
Thanks,

David I'm having exactly the same problem that you had and just tried to remedy it doing it your way.
Unfortunately I hit a snag, you said you were always able connect with the internet using a cable and so was I when I did the usual install. However when I tried to connect using the cable without putting in the Mac system disk after the Windows XP install, it would not do it.
So unfortunately I wasn't able to do the Microsoft updates like you.
Checking my network connections in the control panel there is just one driver.
It is a LAN driver and that is a 1394 Net Adapter.
There was one part during the installation of Windows XP where it gave you a choice between installing network drivers automatically or Manually. I did check on Manually but went back and changed it to Automatic after it started asking for information I didn't have or didn't understand.
Do you remember which one you chose.
Thanks

  • Is it possible to to disconnect 2 wireless clients from my wireless network without access to the clients i.e. 2 iPads?

Is it possible to disconnect 2 wireless clients from my network if I do not have access to the clients? ie 2 iPads.

You would have to set up Timed Access for each device.
This consists of specifying the amount of time each day that wireless devices will be allowed to connect to the network. You must provide a MAC or hardware address for each device, which is a long code that might look something like this, for example......A1-B2-C3-D4-E5-F6....and then specify the hours each day that this device is allowed to connect to the wireless network.
You have to do this for each device, which is tedious. Devices that are not on the Access List cannot connect to the network at any time.

  • Please Help - CISCO VPN client disconnecting over wireless adapter

    Hi,
I connect to my work network when at home using the CISCO VPN client. I have a wireless connection at home. My vpn conection had no problem until my laptop once dropped hitting the wireless card reader side on the floor. since then, my vpn disconnects after some time. And this also disconnects my wireless connection at home. When I am not connected to work through th eVPN, we have no problems with my wireless connection. But, when I need to work from home, my vpn keeps getting disconnected and throws me off my wireless conenction too everytime. Can someone please tell me how to check if anything is wrong with the laptop?

Ok lets see if we can clear somethings up.
Using wireless and VPN before the "Drop" was ok?
Using Wireless and no VPN after the "Drop" is fine?
Using Wireless and VPN after the "Drop" causes the wireless adapter to disconnect?
If this is correct probally the best thing to do is to remove the cisco VPN software and reinstall it.
It can't be anything to do with the "Drop" as using normal wireless is working fine you say.
and the Cisco VPN Adapter is Virtual.
Let me know how you get on.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Do you actually see a weak signal shown on the Apple TV when it is connected to your network. The problem may not be a weak signal, it may be interference from other networks or electrical devices.

  • Wifi Hotspot often disconnects

    Hi,
I have Fresh installation for  "HP 15-r007tx Notebook PC" win 7 Ulti, 64 Bit, I Unable to find BT/Wifi Driver on Site.
At the back of my laptop it says: " Contains Ralink Radio Model : RT3290".
I installed the Drivers form Mediatek website: http://www.mediatek.com/en/downloads/pciert2790rt309xrt35x2rt539xrt3290mt7630/
But when I try the hotspot from softwares like "connectify" , Other devices nearby gets disconnected very often even though the signal strength shown is very strong...
Can anyone suggest the cause of this problem?
(I heard from someone saying it might be a hardware issue?)

    Hi,
I use a HP 15-r014tx Notebook PC, Win8.1 64bit and I face the same issue of wireless hotspot disconnecting frequently from my mobile device.
My wifi adapter is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.
It is not just about connectify, but any hotspot software I use, doesn't function properly, including HP Wireless Hotspot and Windows' in-built hosted network via command prompt.
Any help in this issue would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • How do I disconnect from Wireless to use wired connection?

Hi - I'm new to this and I apologize if this question is ridiculously easy.
I am using a cable modem in which I have plugged my WRT160Nv2 wireless router. I am supporting three computers here in my home; my laptop (both wired and wireless), my daughters laptop (wireless only), and my desktop (wired only).
Everything works great and I have to give all the credit to CISCO and the excellent software which automatically solves every connection problem that comes up.
My laptop and desktop are connected to the wireless router via cable.
My question is strictly about my laptop. When I leave my office in the house and go into another room, I establish the wireless connection. Now I am back in my home office room, I want to use my wired connection. How do I do this? Do I need to disable my wireless connection so that my wired connection takes over? Again, I do have my laptop connected to the wireless router via cat5.
I want to do this strictly for the speed of the connection. I've read that a wired connection is double if not more in Mbps.
This laptop is running Win XP Pro, SP3.
I hope this furnishes enough info to assist in an answer.
    Thanks in advance.
    John
P.S.. I really do want to educate myself regarding the equipment I am using and not have to ask such basic questions. Are there any books or websites you can recommend that can start me out and go as technical as I choose to?

Windows by default uses the fastest connection possible. If you have a wireless and wired connection active at the same time it depends on how fast both connections are rated. Wireless connections tend to change depending on the distance. Wireless 802.11g goes up to 54 Mbit/s. Wireless 802.11n can go up to some 300 Mbit/s. Wired connections are usually either gigabit ethernet (1000 Mbit/s) or fastethernet (100 Mbit/s).
Thus, which is picked depends on your computer. You should check the connection status of both connections in the network connections control panel. It shows you the current wireless and wired speed (the latter won't change of course). Very often, the wired connection is preferred to the wireless connection. Now with 802.11n connections the wireless connection is preferred if your wired connection is only fastethernet.
As your WRT160Nv2 has only FastEthernet LAN ports you have to check how fast the wireless connection is. If you have a 802.11n wireless adapter in your laptop it may show up the wireless connection faster then 100 Mbit/s. Depending on the setting it may change occassionally between 54 Mbit/s and speeds higher then 100 Mbit/s which would lead Windows to swap connections. If you see that problem it is better to switch off the wireless in the laptop while you have a wired connection...
A wired connection is more reliable and stable then a wireless connection. With wireless you can have interference. Thus, even though a wired connection may be slower then a wireless one you may prefer to use the wired connection anyway. And some people prefer to turn off the wireless to avoid radiation.
To sum up: usually you don't have to switch off the wireless, unless you experience problems because of the mentioned changing speeds of the wireless connection. The computer will always only use one connection. Not both.

  • HP Laserjet CP1025nw keeps disconnecting from wireless network

I just purchased this printer yesterday and have had no luck getting the wireless network connection to stay connected for longer than a few minutes.  Currently it's connected to my cisco router via ethernet and works great connected that way.  I can AirPrint from all my IOS devices and from my Macbook Air and Windows 7 laptop.
I am able to get the printer to work on wireless for a short period of time - roughly 10 minutes or so.  I have sent test prints from my IOS devices as well but eventually the blue wireless light on the printer begins flashing and that means it has lost it's connection.  Restarting the router and printer will get the wireless back online for a few minutes and the problem comes back.  I read somewhere that power cycling is a "solution" but I don't agree.
Now, I suppose I could leave it plugged via ethernet cord, but I specifically bought this printer for it's wireless printing capability and would have liked the option of moving it to another location away from my router if need be.  It should work as advertised in my opinion without having to reset/power cycle anything on a regular basis.
My dad bought the same printer as it was on sale.  He has asked me to set it up but hopefully he hasn't opened his box yet.  I know he is hoping to use the wireless function due to the spreadout floorplan of his home office.
I have updated the firmware on the printer (and router) to the latest version and set a static IP address as well.  DHCP yielded the same results.  Following some advice on this forum I have even disabled SNMP though I don't think that would be the problem.
Any thoughts?  Is HP even planning on providing future support in the form of firmware updates now that the printer is a pretty much a clearance item?

    Hi hp_ik
I understand the printer keeps losing the network connection.
I will be happy to assist you with this.
I have provided a document for the printer not maintaining a wireless connection.
I would setup the static IP for the printer to see if this will resolve the issue.
It may not be the printer, it may be your router's inability to wake the printer.
    What router are you using?
Can you get into its settings?
If you can then look for and enable "Multicasting".
If not you will have to contact the router company.
Disconnect the routers power cable, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable. Wait till it's ready.
As a troubleshooting step, try connecting the printer to the router via an Ethernet cable (cat5). This is just to find out if the printer and the router are having problems communicating via wireless.

  • I disconnected my Wireless Keyboard from my Mac and I am logged out! Please help?

So, I was trying to test out the Wireless Keyboard for my iPad, so I disconnected it from the computer and logged out. So now I am logged out and I can't even log in without my keyboard! What should I do? I have another keyboard in the house that works via USB, should I use it?

    Hi
I have the same problem. Did you use the USB keyboard and works? Did you log in again?
Youd answer will be very helpful to me!

  • How do I disconnect a wireless mouse?

I have an iMac with a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard. I also have a MacBook Pro with a wireless mouse. Today, for some strange reason, the iMac's wireless mouse disconnected from the iMac and connected to my MacBook Pro. I finally was able to reconnect the iMac mouse to the iMac; however, it is still showing up in the list of wireless mice on my MacBook Pro. It is disconnected from my laptop, but is there any way I can get it off the list?

System Preferences>Bluetooth. You should be able to delete it there.

  • WRT54G2 disconnects me wirelessly every 5 to 8 minutes

Guys I need your help, I usually get disconnected wirelessly every 5 to 8 minutes. To gain connection I have to unplug the power adapter (linksysWRT54G2 router) then plug it in again. Is there any other way that will let me stay connected?

I am also having a similar problem. I have the WRT54G2 v1, firmware version is v1.0.01, I have applied no upgrades to this device, yet.
I have one machine wired, the rest are wireless. All frequently drop the connection. They all also seem to take a long time to connect initally.
This is the second device with the new style that I tried, the first was having the same issues out of the box, but so much worse that I could not use it at all.
I am curious as to how widespeard this issue may be, since I have seen it twice in as many devices, and am obviously not the only person with the problem.
I continue to look for a firmware upgrade to the device, have not seen it yet but may have missed it while looking on the web site.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
