Booting an R100 from the SD Card slot.

I found mention of R200s (?) being able to boot from the SD Card if one put a 2.88Mb floppy image on SD media named as file $tosfd00.vfd and then chose the floppy icon from the Toshiba power-on boot menu.
I thus upgraded my BIOS to 1.60, used the Toshiba "SD Memory Card Format" utility, found an example boot image, copied it to my SD card, rebooted, chose the floppy disk icon (I'm assuming this overrides the boot order selectable within the Toshiba hardware utility) and had no luck - the machine booted from the HDD as usual.
Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Hi
As far as I know you can create bootable SD card using SD card boot utility. In this case the SD card has the same function like MS-DOS startup disk. Unfortunately it will not help you because with this boot SD card you can not see content of HDD. Just FAT32 partition is readable but not NTFS (available on your unit). You can use SD card for BIOS update or for user password saving. Thats all.

  • Running Windows 7 from your SD Card Slot

I run Windows 7 using Parallels from an Extreme III SD Card to isolate my mac from Windows and save HD Space (I have a 256 SSD). It was such a process to get it working though that I just wanted everyone to know what I have found out in working with Windows 7 on my Macbook from the SD Card slot:
    1) Rated speed of the SD Card doesn't matter but brand does matter
I used 4 SD Cards before I found the right one. I first bought a 16gb "class 10" Adata card that just stopped working and it's replacement never worked. Amazon removed my negative review. I also have a Kingston Class 4, tried a Panasonic Class 10, and a SanDisk Class 10 Extreme III: All the speeds were nearly identical in the card slot but only the SanDisk and Kingston gave consistent non-jittery performance.
    2) Don't Run ANY version of Fusion using the SD Card slot- not even 3.0. They all run UNBEARABLY SLOW using the slot. Parallels, including a test of the new 5.0 worked great- Like you are on a PC runs.
    3) Don't expect the card reader to work at 480mb/s or even 240- peaks of 15megabytes per second is all you will see and usual 10/s. Thanks Apple for putting a substandard reader in the MacBook . Here are some of my screenshots:
    http://communities.sandisk.com/sandisk/board/message?board.id=memorycards&thread .id=1098
    4) Parallels needs your SD card to have a certain amount of free space in order to start up the virtual machine and I believe it's over 1GB. That means you need AT LEAST a 16gb card for just running Windows 7 and Enterprise Office on it- and you will need to often use Parallels Disk Imaging Tool to compact your virtual machine if you have the 16GB (which isn't a big deal for me). If you have more you need to do on it you can't get away with anything less than a 32GB SD Card.
I appreciate Apple putting this slot in the MacBook Pro (I could use the Express slot for eSata though) and Keeping windows on an SD Card, away from my mac is working great. Performance using Parallels is fast using the Extreme III Sandisk 16gb Class 10. Post with any questions you may have I just don't want anyone to go through the nightmares I did to get this working.

Windows must be installed from a DVD in the internal optical drive. Burn your digital image to a DVD using Disk Utility, Toast, or similar utility. You can also use the Apple external USB optical drive for the MBA.

  • Boot MEGA 180 from PCI Sata card

My onboard IDE controller has given up the ghost so I have purchased a PCI sata card to use a spare sata disk, the problem is I can't see any way to get the 180 to boot from the PCI card.  Anyone any ideas?

Yep - I disabled the PATA ports.
No - the card has no bios - I guess this is the problem.

  • How to reference/play video from the MicroSD card

I am developing an interactive video application using AIR on Android and need to store media on an external MicroSD card.  How do I access that file location in AIR?  I have tried:
    /mnt/Removable/MicroSD/
    /mnt/external1/
    etc.
    Is there code similar to:
    var myFile:File = File.documentsDirectory.resolvePath("Test Folder/test.txt");
That would allow me to reference the external storage?

OK...I am highly confused.  And I think you are a bit confused too...adding to the confusion.
Log and CAPTURE is for capturing from tape. If you aren't capturing from tape...but rather an SD card...do not use Log and CAPTURE.  Tapeless capture uses log and TRANFER.  That's what I mention in that tutorial.
    >How do I set up the preferences so that I get the capture window that shows the clips that I can import (capture) from my SD card?
Watch the video again. You open Log and Transfer...click on the folder icon on the upper left...and then navigate to the backup of the card you make.  The FIRST step is to back up that card.  Then you use L&T...and direct it to the root level of the backup folder.  You click OK and all the clips in that folder will appear in the Log and Transfer window.
    >I keep getting prompted with a message that my HDV deck is not connected.
Because you are opening Log and CAPTURE.  Again...log and transfer is what you want.
    >I'm just trying to have my video be captured wirelessly from the SD card into FCP.
Sorry, you can't do that. You cannot do this wirelessly. You need to connect the camera to the computer with a wire...typically USB.  OR...you take the SD card out and either use an SD card reader connected to the computer via a cable (USB), or if you have a laptop with an SD card slot...well then, that would be wireless. Just slap the card into the computer and watch it show up on the desktop.  Then back up the footage, then Log and Transfer.
    >It's got to do something with setting it up in wither Easy Setup menu or one of the others.
No. You do not need to use the Easy Setups. That is for tape capture. You determine what codec you will be converting to in the Log and Transfer preferences. Watch the video again...I explain this thoroughly.

I tried to download my pictures with my memory card from my camera (this has always been sucessful) however the pictures would not download, and appear to be encrypted and unable to view, also not saved in my 'Iphotos'  This also erased the pictures from the memory card. Help.....anyway of retrieving them?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
did you get a message when trying to import from the memory card?
did you use a card reader?
what was you exact workflow for attempting the import?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library? See image below:
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • I can not open the microsim card slot and my ipad is brand new!

When i try to opne the microsim card slot to introduce the sim card nothing happpens. Can somebody tell where and how I introduce the microsim card in my ipad?

The trick is pushing the SIM eject tool in a 45 degree angle as was also the case with the iPad 2, as opposed to the  iPad 1 (and all iPhones). Pushing it in a 90 degree angle won't open the tray, unlike in the listed models.
Also see the photo and description at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4577 , which also shows this.

It depends on what kind of sim card and carrier you have, but the most likely answer is no. Contacts, maybe, but pictures are very unlikely. Sorry.

    Hi,
iChat will set up a Video chat window that takes in to account your Processor speed and Internet Speed and to some extent the Buddy's speed.
This then denotes the pixel content of each frame.
OS X 10.6.x tells me this is iChat 5 which in turn mean you have  at least an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.
This should be capable of 30 frames a sec at  about 640 X 480 pixels  (Check the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) and the Statistics tab during a Chat).
iChat 5 cannot do HD  (Max of 4:3 ratio at the above figures)
After that it depends how you are recording the chat.
    Quicktime X would do it.
iChat will do it itself (if the Buddy agrees)

  • How can i use an ao card (pci 6723) to output data and to trigger an ai o acquire the data coming from the ao card?card (pci 6254) t

    Hello
I am trying to perform AO (pci 6723) and to trigger my AO card (pci
6254) to read the data coming from the AO card. I am using LV7,1,
    win2000.
Is an RTSI cable necessary or I can connect the trigger signals externally ?
I am using the LV example " multi function - synch ai-ao.vi" but i can't for some reason configure the trigger lines.
thank you in advance for your time.
    Yiannis

    Hello Yiannis,
If I understand you correctly, you want to synchronize your analog input and analog output that are started by a trigger on the analog input board. If you don't want to use the RTSI lines, your best bet is to export the AI Sample Clock and then read it in to the AO board. There is an example on ni.com called DAQmx - Synchronized AIAO Shared Clock. It appears to be having techincal issues so I have attached the example below. To export ai/sampleclock, use DAQmx Export Signal.vi after Get Terminal Name with Device Prefix.vi. Export Sample Clock to PFI3 (There are only connections between the sample clock and PCI3/4/8/9). Connect PFI3 on your AI board to PFI0 on your AO board (with a wire). Then change the source for the AO Timing.vi to Devx/PFI0. If you want to do triggering, stick the DAQmx Trigger.vi between the Timing property node and the DAQmx Start.vi on the AI task. I have shown how to do this in the modified version below. Please take a look at it and let me know if you have any questions. If you still get an error please take a screenshot of it and post to the forum. Have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Marni S.

Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the SD card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Check your Import settings in the Import Panel, i.e. all that might exclude the image type you want to import:
If you did not exclude any file types, and still Aperture will not import, remove your ImageCapture preferences fro your user library:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something .plist  remove them too.
    then try again.
And if that still does not help, remove the Aperture preferences as well:
    ~/Library/Preferences/aperture.plist
    Regards
    Léonie
P.S. in MacOS Lion and later the user library ~/Library is hidden by default.
You can reveal it also  from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > Go,   then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences".
