Booting from Mac OSX Instead of Windows

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone could help me with a very minor but irritating problem I've been having. I installed "Bootcamp" and ran the program to partition my drive and run windows. It worked perfectly, but the only problem is now my iMac boots directly from Windows as soon as I restart or startup my computer. I would much rather it boot straight to OSX so that I could avoid pressing the "option" key continually on startup and restart.
Thanks

In OS X, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select Mac OS X.
You can do the same thing in Windows by going to Control Panel > Startup Disk.

Hi, i wanted to do a fresh install of snow leopard on my MBP, but when i try to boot from the snow leopard disk, it just hangs at a white screen with a grey apple logo on it. Ive tried install it from my desktop, it finished but absolutely nothing happened. Ive also tried booting while pressing option, and while pressing c.
I also want to use disk utility from the installation disk to repair my Macintosh HD. But i cant get into the cd..
oh yeah and while i tried to install it from my desktop, there was this button on the left bottom corner called Utilities. I pressed it thinking that disk utility was there and it told me to boot into the disk. I pressed restart and the same thing happened. it just hangs at the white screen with the grey apple logo. nothing else. and i also hear the disk stop spinning.
    any ideas???

Maybe you killed your boot drive.
Normally you should of course be able to boot from SL DVD and instead of INSTALL go to menu bar and UTILITIES and select DISK UTILITY.
ZAP the PRAM will result in the "?" because the boot volume setting is no longer present. You can reset that also from SL DVD Utility / Startup Disk
    My methods:
Clone and have a bootable backup first, DU Restore; or SuperDuper
Run utilities from there, like Disk Warrior
Even though you are suppose to be able to install from desktop, SL also needs to "prepare disk" (update partition table) and it is safer and really really adviseable to do repair from the DVD, as with any upgrade have a couple backups in place first.

  • Cannot access boot from Mac OSX install Disc-frozen cursor

Twice a month I do some housekeeping and clean up my Mac--run scripts, verify preferences, repair permissions, etc. Quarterly I boot from the installation disc to renew any start up info that may have become corrupted.
My IMACG5 won't allow me to do this now. I put the disc in, and shut down the machine. I start it up again while holding down the C key but when it is finished booting from the disc my mouse cursor is frozen on the screen and I cannot acess anything. I have a battery operated mouse and I always check to make sure there is sufficient battery life.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is up and how I resolve this issue? At this point I won't be able to wipe my hard drive and re-boot everything fresh from my installaion discs because the cursor is frozen.

Hello jaqueline & Welcome to Apple discussions
I put the disc in, and shut down the machine.I start it up again while holding down the C key but when it is finished booting from the disc my mouse cursor is frozen on the screen and I cannot acess anything.
I hope you mean Restart and not Shut Down.
Insert CD, under Apple drop down menu -> restart after/ at the chime hold the c key dowm till the gear/ wheel stops spinning .

How can I choose to boot from MAC OS by default after I installed Windows? I have a MacBook Pro Leo 10.6.8. I used bootcamp to install Windows XP SP2, but now if I don't press the option key it will start up with Windows, and I don't want that. Thanks for any help.

Select it in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

  • Hi I'm new to Mac & I have bootcamp on it but am stuck, how do I get from Mac side to the Window side?

Hi I'm new to Mac & I have bootcamp on it but am stuck, how do I get from Mac side to the Window side?

Hold the "option" key on boot.  Choose the system to boot.
Then "System Preferences > Startup Disk" to select Max OSX as your default system.
There is another "system preferences" in the Windows menu that is added by bootcamp to make it the default, but I do not know the details of that.

  • Trying to update from Mac OSX 10.7.2 to 10.7.4 via the Updater.  Update Not Verified?

Trying to update from Mac OSX 10.7.2 to 10.7.4 via the Updater.   Getting a message half way through the download stating the updated "could not be verified.  It may have been corrupted during downloading."   Any ideas for picking up the latest Update?
    Uploading screenshot....     any advice appreciated.
    Matt

Either try redownloading or try downloading the standalone updater: OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo).
Such errors may be caused by glitches in your Internet connection or because of hard drive problems. I suggest you try the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Macbook pro will not boot into Mac OSX

When i got my MacBook Pro it would boot into Mac OSX fine. Now it wont even give me the option and will only let me boot into Windows which i have running through bootcamp. I have tried reinstalling MacOSX but my OSX installion DVD will not get recognised and i cannot boot off it either. I have tried using 2 other discs still with the same issue. The confusing thing is that the CD/DVD drive works fine and the MacOSx discs work fine in other macs as i have tried it in my brothers machine.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

I don't think that the laptop even has Mac installed anymore becuase in an attempt to reinstall Mac the partition was formatted. And I can't boot of the disc becuase it just ejects by itself after a few seconds in the drive.

  • Can't start up with Mac osx after installing windows on partition

    Hello guys.
I installed windows on a partition of 100gb and I restarted the iMac so I can log on to Mac osx.
I hold down the option key after I hear the sound but only the windows disk appears there.
I tried the DVD that came with my Mac by holding down the "c" key but nothing happened. I was holding it down for 2-3 minutes.
    I need some help here
Is there a way to boot Mac again?
Is there a chance I deleted Mac osx by installing windows?
And if there is how the **** am I getting it back since the osx DVD does not boot??
    Thanks in advance

The Macbook will not allow you to startup with your Install DVD while you have Open Firmware password enabled. Disable that first, then try again....

Launch the Open Firmware application to disable it.

  • Can't boot to Mac osx, Error -2100F

    Hi there,
I got a Macbook Pro Retina Late 2012, and I made a dual boot to Windows 7 today.
The problem is when I try to boot to Mac osx it automaticly start up as Windows 7.
I tried to use the Command key to get the Mac osx running and the only boot that I see is Windows 7.
After that i tried using Command + R to recover it and it gave me an error -2100F.
I also tried to use Boot Camp to Boot to Mac but that also goes straight to Windows.
My guess is that I deleted the wrong partition when I installed Windows 7 and that i am unable to boot to Mac osx now.
Can anyone help me fix the problem?
    Thanks in Advance

Use your backup(s). Erase and restore.
Also XP is not being actively supported.
With OS X upgrades you always need to check and make sure you have the latest, like Parallels 7, or there is VirtualBox 4.x
Sounds like you simply had a corrupt hard drive.
Lion 10.7 will only support Windows 7 except in a VM.

I wanted to statup from the install DVD to do a repair permissions and repair disk and i'm getting a kernal panic screen. Anyone know why?
Using a Dual 2.3 GHz Power PC G5, OSX 10.4.10, working fine.
Will no longer boot from dvd disk, not even install cds.
Tried other macs same deal, I can't belive that both sets of disks went bad.

    Hi moeminator-
You can start the server in FireWire target disk mode and use the drive in the Power Mac to do the deed.

  • Can I upgrade from mac OSX 10.6.8 to 10.8?

Can I upgrade from mac OSX 10.6.8 to 10.8?

Same list as stedman1, but uses model numbers which is slightly more accurate.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.         Application Compatibility
If you have applications that you want to use that aren’t compatible, you can retain Snow Leopard and create a new partition to install Mountain Lion on or you can run Snow Leopard  server in a virtual mode.
If your computer isn't compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.        Computer Compatibility - Lion
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.

  • Can Mac mini October 2012 boot from Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)?

Can the Mac mini October 2012 boot from Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)?
It is needed to run applications that require Rosetta (Eudora e-mail, Palm Desktop PDA-PIM, Canvas drawing from ACDsee, etc). Thanks

Can the Mac mini October 2012 boot from Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)?
No. Your best option by far is to find updates or replacements for that long-obsolete software. In the long run, you'll have no other choice. As a last resort, you could do this:
Installing Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels
The instructions are slightly out of date. That's not a recommendation and I haven't tried it myself.

I have recently upgraded my MacBook to OSX Lion. Now I cannot get access to my windows-partition. I cannot choose booting from OSX Lion or Windows. Who can help???

I believe that Lion and Mountian Lion use BootCamp 4.0 and earlier versions used 3.0. I don't use BootCamp but from reading The link below you need to get new drivers, burn a cd and install. Check out #20 on this page.
