Booting into OS X and Windows 7 Problem

Yesterday, I was wanting to play Flight Simulator in Windows so I restarted the Mac. It made the "Mac noise" and I held the "option" key but the screen was black (it was lit up) and the Apple logo screen never came up. It was stuck on the black screen for a while so I held the power button down and restarted it. Then I left it alone and the Apple logo didn't come up again. After a minute, the screen turned blue and it went to the OS X login screen. I logged it and Mac OS X worked fine. It might be a little laggy but it works. So I kept trying to get it to let me select Windows with no luck. Then I went into System Preferences and told it to start up into Windows. Restarted the Mac again, no Apple screen and the Windows boot screen came up. It loaded and then the screen turned black (again it was lit) and stayed for a few minutes. Then I restarted and it did the same thing. I tried holding "option" again to go back to Mac OS X and it didn't work. I tried holding "X" to get it to go to Mac OS X and it also didn't work. So I was stuck in Windows mode and it wouldn't boot. When I would let it do it's own thing at startup, it would be on a black screen with white text saying that Windows didn't shutdown properly or something and it gave me 3 choices to boot it. But the arrow keys wouldn't work so I hit "Enter" and it still wouldn't boot Windows. Finally, I inserted the Mac OS X disc and held down "C" at startup to us the disc and I reinstalled OS X and now I'm back in Mac mode but the Apple logo screen still doesn't show up and I won't try to go into Windows again. I also tried to do a hardware diagnostic which is on the Mac application disc but it wouldn't do that either. Any thoughts or ideas?

Nothing at all?

  • Can't Boot Into OS X, Only Windows

    Hi all,
I have boot camp with Windows XP and OS X Snow Leopard. On Windows, I have MacDrive installed, and I was testing to see why a certain folder wasn't working, when I set macdrive to not read-only (BAD IDEA) to test something. Then Windows Explorer crashed. Next time I rebooted, I couldn't boot into OS X, only Windows (as in, the latter is the only thing that showed up). MacDrive can still read the drive, I just can't boot from it. The problem is that I'm home from school for break and I don't have my backup external or my Snow Leopard DVD with me.
    Questions:
    1) Can I do anything to fix this without my system disk?
    2) Is there any way to backup my data without using MacDrive and without using Target Disk Mode (I'm not sure if I have a firewire cable)?
    3) Is there a way to fix this without completely reinstalling OS X and then just copying my files/settings back with migration assistant?
    4) If I went to the apple store, could they help me backup my files somewhere and then reinstall OS X and then copy the files and settings all back so that I basically have the same OS X that I had earlier today? (Seeing as i don't have my system disk and they would have one)
    Thanks all.

I have no idea what that means. please clarify. the answers to the rest of your questions likely depend on that.

  • Boot Camp and Windows 7 Problems

I have found a reproducible bug with Boot Camp and WIndows 7.
Clean install of OS X 10.6.2, Boot Camp Asst. Partition on my Mac Pro boot drive, clean install Win 7.
Problem: while in OS X, Disk Util Repair Permissions takes forever, churning away at the hard drive. Also, intermittent Spotlight hangs, and weird Dropbox behavior where it churns the disk like crazy again.
I have Paragon NTFS for Mac v 7.03 and perhaps this has something to do with it.
After retuning to a single partition using Boot Camp Asst. (deleting the Win 7 partition), all is back to normal - Repair Permissions takes about 60 seconds, no Spotlight or Dropbox issues whatsoever.
Using Fusion for Win 7 for now. Awaiting official Apple support of Win 7 in Boot Camp.
Wondering if anyone else can confirm this behavior where you have a partitioned boot drive with 10.6.2 and Win 7, with or without NTFS for Mac 7.03.

Addendum: on reboot/option key boot screen, it showed OS X volume, Win 7 Volume, and EFI Boot Volume - the latter had never been there before with Vista.

  • ITunes library and Boot Camp (Snow Leopard and Windows 7)

At the moment, I'm using a Macbook Pro running both OS X and Windows 7 Ultimate using Bootcamp to facilitate this.
The problem that I have is that I keep my iTunes library on an external HDD. In OS X, this isn't a problem as the OS X version of iTunes manages the music on it; adding new podcasts that it downloads and also adding new CDs that I rip to the HDD.
In Windows 7, I installed iTunes and have only run a single "Add folder to library", meaning that only the music that was on the HDD on the first instance is recognised by iTunes. This means that if I were to switch from Windows 7 to OS X, download some podcasts and then go back into Windows 7, iTunes in Windows 7 won't find these new podcasts.
The other (and nowhere near important issue) is that if I forget to disconnect my iPhone before switching over to Windows 7, iTunes in Windows 7 will wipe the apps from it.
Does anyone know how I may be able to resolve this

Your iMac supports OS X Mavericks, so make a backup of your files in Mac OS X and Windows, open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks for free. Check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
OS X Mavericks includes Boot Camp Assistant 5, but it's compatible with Macs that can only use Boot Camp 4. Note that you only have the Boot Camp Assistant as the version 5, and not the drivers or anything else, so there's no problem in installing a 32-bit Windows 7 version if you want. Also, you won't lose your Windows copy after upgrading to OS X Mavericks, so don't worry

  • Can't boot into Mac OS after Windows install via Bootcamp

    Hello.
Last night I installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro early 2011 via Bootcamp. After some major complications I was able to finally install Windows 7 and boot into it. Now I can't boot back into my "Macintosh HD" partition, it shows a no entry sign.
Hard Disk : 320GB Internal Sata
Partitions : 3 -> Mac, Bootcamp and 10.8 Recovery Partition
The good part is that I can still access the Mac OS partition in Windows and Windows is working perfectly fine. As a matter of fact right now I'm on the bootcamped windows.
I have a full time machine backup but still I am looking for a way to solve this without formatting the HDD.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Resetting NVRAM and PRAM
    2. Booting into 10.8 recovery partition and running DU.
    SMART Status : Verified
"Macintosh HD" grayed and Not Mounted
    Successful Verify Permissions (Twice)
Is there a way to solve this? Though the Mountain Lion partition shows when I press the Alt/option key on startup but I can't somehow boot into it.
    Thanks

Your problem is OS X is refusing to boot.
There is still a bootable volume on the Macintosh HD partition, it's just not working.
You can #8 Reinstall Just OS X while command r booted from the Recovery partition, as long as you don't use Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD partition, your files and programs remain.
Hook the computer via Ethernet cable to a router (or modem, power reset required) with a fast relaible internet connection, you will need your AppleID and password to reinstall OS X.

  • Dreamweaver and Windows Vista Problem

    Hello,
I ran into a problem with my Dreamweaver - 8 application and
cannot find a fix. I open up the Dreamweaver application, 2-3
seconds later, I get the following error message, “A problem
caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close
the program and notify you if a solution is available.” I am
using Windows Vista and believe the problem is associated with the
Vista operating system. I am puzzled by the fact that I have been
using Dreamweaver with Vista and have had no problems up until now.
I uninstalled & reinstalled Dreamweaver to no avail. I
restored my computer to an earlier date, and updated Dreamweaver,
and still have the same problem.
Any help to resolve this problem would be greatly
    appreciated.

I finally fixed the problem. I went into my network settings

  • Boot Camp 2.x and Windows XP incompatible with Radeon 1600 Video Adapter

Using Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 from a Leopard Install, I generated a 20GB partition and installed Windows XP SP2 reformatting during the install to NTFS. At this point things seemed to be working well. I then used my Leopard Install disk to update the MAC drivers. Now when I tried to reboot, I see the Windows splash window, the screen goes black, the screen goes cyan, then the screen goes black and stays that way. At this point, I cannot do anything with the Windows XP partition other than a power down by holding the power key. If I try to reboot on the XP partition, it goes through a hard drive repair, then goes black screen, light blue screen, black screen, hung. I can boot with Safe Boot, but I have no keyboard or trackpad drivers. I can run the system with an external USB mouse and keyboard.
A friend found that the Video Adapters being used were a problem. (We can't find the reference.) If I go to Start/RightClick My Computer/Hardware/Device Manager/Video Adapters, I can right click on whatever adapters are located there and Uninstall them. At this point, the system will boot up fine using a generic video adapter. I don't know how well it would work if you wanted to use it for high speed gaming.
On bootup I could get to the Internet. I went to Start/All Programs/Windows Update and did the Windows Update. I did it twice to get everything updated to Service Pak 3. (I have read that there is a problem if you upgrade the Apple Drivers to version 2.1 before you upgrade to Service Pak 3.)
At this point, I installed the Boot Camp Update 2.1 and all worked well. I then installed Update 2.2 and the video was again a problem. It appears that the system was booting up ok, but it was happening behind a black screen. If I booted up in Safe Mode, connected a USB Mouse and Uninstalled the Video Adapter/Radeon 1600, I could boot up and the system worked fine.
Unfortunately, Windows (for the first time that I know of) was smart enough to recognize that there was new hardware (the X1600) and it reinstalled the @!#$#-ed X1600 driver without asking me. Now I couldn't reboot without it hanging again.
The final step was that I found that if, instead of Uninstalling, I Disabled the X1600, I can now run using the generic Video Adapter and Windows does not re-enable it.
I hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem, so they don't waste 2 weeks like I did.

    Hi Dave,
    thanks for these informations.
Before my beloved 2006 iMac went awry and finally bit the dust, I have used the ATI MobilityCatalyst Drivers for XP.
If you're in for another try, here's the link http://support.amd.com/de/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonmob_xp.aspx?typ e=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.10&lang=English
Using the Generic Microsoft Graphics driver is IMHO not a solution, as it really only supports a minimum of the capabilities of the X1600 and is definitely not suited for gaming.

  • Primairy IDE and Windows Install Problems!

Hail all, I have had this issue the last 48 hours for the most part, but it started last monday night..
I orderd all my stuff from newegg.. I got:
    Intel 775 Socket 2.8ghz Prescott
    ECS Mobo (psh model)
    2x 512mb DDR 3200
Western Digital 80gb Hard Drive at 7.2k RPM (my only OEM item)
Chaintech GeForce 6600 GT video card
Jaht ( I think? :p ) Wireless PCI Adapter (can't have wires running in my room)
    Aspire-X Dreamer II Case
    Rosewell DVD/CD-RW combo (very cheap).
Anyways, I hooked it all in and it wouldn't give a signal to my monitor. I found out a small mount was hitting the mobo, and it was probably damaged. I got a new motherboard on Friday (which was all of my paycheck being as young as I am), the grand MSI 915P Combo. Oh, it was so shiny and awesome!
I got a signal to the monitor, and it started up. I put in a floppy for the latest BIOs and it seemed to go right. I put in my WinXP disk, and rebooted. Do do do, it starts to do that 'pre-'load Windows thing. When the little message at the bottom says "Loading Windows Setup". I am thinking "so leet  ".
When, HELLO, my first Blue Screen of Death (before I even installed Windows! I love that). It says check for Virusis (I havn't been on the internet..) and uninstall any new HDs and such. Well, that confuses me. So.. I put in my friend's very very old HD (which has tons of buggies in it BTW) and that loads fine. So I put mine back in, skim through my BIOs and I notice that the HD is the Third Master IDE, and that my CD-ROM slot is considered RAID.
    What the hell?
I am going to install the older set of BIOs for the 915P Combo from July instead of the September ones and hopefully that'll fix it.
Has anyone else had any errors like this? Thanks - Erik

you skiped the part about him buying the msi board.

Ok, the problem is generated by NVIDIA VIDEO DRIVER!
Honesty I cant understand why LENOVO not choose for this machines a ivibridge CPU with HD4000 VIDEO, performance is similar, and Intel VIDEOS GPU, have 0 troubles, ATI AND NVIDIA always are very problematic.
    Anyway the solution is simple:
1 Turn OFF windows update, or change to selective install.
This prevent win update install NVIDIA driver in automatic way.
2 Uninstall NVIDIA driver sand NVIDIA related stuff.
3 Restart the machine, NOT POWER OFF, just restart.
4 Now go to SYSTEM PROPERTIES > HARDWARE > DEVICE MANAGER
INSIDE DISPLAY ADPATER NOW SELECT DISABLE THE DEFAULT VGA DRIVER, NOR UNINSTALL CHOOSE DISABLE!
    NOW RESTART.
After restart now touchscreen work correctly, and next time you power off the machine, not have that ugly error all time.
This not is a final solution is just a workaround until LENOVO/NVIDIA provide a final fix for this.

  • T430u and Windows 8 Problems

    Hi everyone,
Really need some helps here. I bought a T430u , and to be honest, i'm rather dissapointed with this. My keyboard was dead in a matter of weeks, so i've just get it back from the sevice centre. And now I have another problems:
    1.Cannot wake up from sleep
I've read on another sites that I have to disable expresscache and quick start, but then it'll make the ssd caching useless isn't it? And yet after I uninstall expresscache and disabled quick start, it still doesn't solve my problem. Now it'll wake from sleep but will crash and restart.
    2.Glitchy trackpad
On some occassion, the trackpad just stop working for 1 - 5 minutes. And then it'll work again. Now I mainly use mouse, but seriously...
I've upgraded all the lenovo driver and windows update too. But it doesn't solve anything...

    Hi centraldogma,
Welcome to Lenovo Community. I'm assuming that the system is still under warranty. I would suggest calling Tech Support to see if they can help you troubleshoot the problems. If that doesn't help perhaps they can advise about the last option of returning the system.

  • Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Windows 7 Problem

How do I get Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Windows 7 compatible so I can access my attachments to e-mails sent to me?

I was successful in installing AA5 in Win7 Starter as a test. It works except that I changed the printer port to file (AcroTray or the Distiller Assistant of AA5 does not work in Win7). You can open the files that are created in Distiller to create PDFs. You may be able to use watched folders to automate the process to some degree.
I suspect that your question is more of having problems reading PDF files in AA5. That is a different issue. It is not a Win7 compatibility issue, but one of needing a newer PDF viewer. I have AA5 on one XP machine that I use Reader X on for seeing the newer files. I do have to deal with some conflicts between AA5 and ARX, but I can deal with that (many folks lose there minds on that).
There is one other option that might be a major problem. Many folks are getting Win7 on 64-bit machines. In that case, you will have to be sure AA5 runs in 32-bit compatibility.
At least that should give you some ideas of what might work. If a 64-bit machine, you may definitely have a problem -- I never tested that combination.

  • Booting into recovery mode and Web service in 10.7 server

I have two servers: Server A is running 10.6 server and server B is running 10.7 server. Both are on the same LAN at a data center. My questions are as follows:
1 - is there a way to restart server B into recovery mode remotely? (and not using a KVM)
2 - if server B was booted successfully into recovery mode is there a way to screen share with it from server A? If so how would this be done?
3 - can Apple Remote Desktop reboot a 10.7 machine into recovery mode and still continue to see its screen?
4 - in the Server app of 10.7 server there is a default website setup in the Web service. it doesn't seem possible to edit any of the information for this default website, is this true?
5 - is there any way to get the Web service in the 10.7 Server Admin tools? it is missing among many other services.
    Thanks

Probability is very high that you have a hardware failure. You should get an external bootable drive (or startup with a bootable DVD if you can) JUST to prove that it's not the motherboard, but probably the hard drive that's failed.
