Booting Lion from an SDHC Card - Or Recording Audio to SDHC?

Heya -
Thinking of using the MBA 13" Stock for single, possibly dual track audio recording (typically 48kHz/24bit) using my Apogee Duet 2 and, seeing as there aren't any affordable Thunderbolt drives or -to-FW800 adapters out there (yet), I was thinking of putting the OS onto an SDHC card and using the internal flash as my target drive.
Good idea? Bad idea? Workable idea? Do any SDHC cards (SanDisk, Lexar?) have enough iops to handle Lion?
Another (and much simpler) solution would be to just record direct to the Class 10 SDHC card, but I'm concerned they're not good/fast enough to handle the audio stream. Would be using either Logic, TwistedWave or PT9.
Thanks in advance.

  • Prohibitive sign appears when booting Lion from USB flash and DVD

    Hi There
I created both a bootable DVD and a USB drive from the Lion download. However I just tried booting my macbook from the DVD and got the "prohibitive sign - ie the circle with a line through it" it was the same when trying the USB flash drive as well. any idea's gratefully appreciated ! BTW my Macbook is a intel dual core.
I'm currently installing Lion on my Macbook pro from the downloaded image OK so don't think the image is damaged.

when you say your MBP is dual core, do you mean core 2duo or core duo?

  • Triple boot Lion/Lion/Win7?

    I'm lost.
Most of the 3x boot guides I've seen are exclusive to 3 unique OS.  What do I need to do to get 2x Lion along side a Win7 install on my Mac Pro?
I've only just made the switch, but remain in a limbo between OSs due to work - I am both a FCP and Avid editor, needing at times to be able to work in a PC environ.  My Mac Pro has seperate media drives, so I suspect the Recovery Partition would not be as big an issue, though on this machine it seems to not be installed (and I'll be needing to get a recovery install USB drive together for this project).
Before anyone asks - FCP and Avid are on different release schedules regarding both OS and Quicktime version support - I simply cannot have them both on the same bootable partition and avoid verision conflicts.
Hoping to have this all settled by Saturday morning... *crosses fingers*
    Thanks!

You have 4 internal hard drives. You can have almost any mix you want.
Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.4+ now can clone Lion Recovery
The problem is when notebook owners try triple boot.
If you have two SSDs as some do, or SSD + 2TB, it is also easy.
And you can boot Lion from FW800 if needed.
Take 1TB drivve and split for both Lion versions.
Take another 1TB drive for Windows
Leaves you two more internal drives for data.
I use data drive for Windows along with OS drive. Then use Paragon NTFS for Mac.
Any project has a trial run and takes 2-3x longer for the bumps in the road and unforseen shortcut / detours that come along... but it is easy.
One rule: take out all the drives except the one where Windows goes and put that in bay 1 (port 0) Then put the other drives back in once you have it installed and running.
You'll want Windows 7 Pro 64-bit most likely.

Please! I need an answer fast!!!!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IMac 27 inch i7 OSX Lion will not boot up from Hard Disc

iMac 27 inch i7 OSX Lion will not boot up from Hard Disc on cold start, and cannot find wifi hardware in the machine.   Restart and everything is fine.   I have two machine and they behave the same.   Software or hardware problem?

First of all, try a hard restart; making sure no disks are in the slot, unplug everything from your computer (keyboards, mice, etc.) and then unplug the computer itself. Leave it unplugged for a minute or two, then plug it back in and boot it up.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the option-key on your keyboard. The screen should show a choice of which disk drive to boot from. Choose your usual drive.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the shift-key on your keyboard. It should take a while for it to boot up, as it is destroying all connections to sources that may contain a virus.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down keys "option-command-P-R" until you hear the startup tone a second time.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the C-key. Make sure you have inserted the installation disk before doing this step.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the command-key and the R-key.
If that fails, please reply to this and let me know.

  • What is open firmware command to boot a Powerbook G4 from a CF card in the PCMCIA slot?

I have a Powerbook G4 Titanium with a bad motherboard that will no longer power the internal hard drive. I want to to install an OS and boot from a CF card in the PCMCIA slot. I understand this has to be done from Openfirmware, but I cannot figure out the command to do it.Does anyone know?

    Charles,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What I've found so far is a non-Apple solution drivers.
I assume you've found the IO Xperts driver. (http://www.ioxperts.com/products/80211b_X.html)
Is there an Apple developed solution out
    there for third party cards?
Not exactly. Apple uses the Broadcom chipset. Some third-party manufacturers also use the Broadcom chipset and those cards would then work with the AirPort drivers. Here is a link to a list of wireless cards that note the chipset, OS and driver.
    http://home.earthlink.net/~metaphyzx/Wireless.htm
(Note: the list is dated August 2005.)
Manufacturers change their chipset so the version number of the card will make a difference. For example, the list shows that the Linksys WPC54G uses the Broadcom chipset. Well, that is true with version 1. Version 2 uses a Texas Instrument chipset and version 4 uses the Inprocomm chipset, which means these two do not work with the AirPort Driver.
I use the Linksys WPC54GS v1.0 (SpeedBooster) that uses Broadcom. It was plug 'n play.
It is hard to get an original Airport card today.
A quick search found a number of sellers, but they cost 2-to-3 times more than a third party card. (I didn't check eBay.) A third-party card also avails you to the faster option of 802.11g.
    Hope this helps.

  • Boot MEGA 180 from PCI Sata card

My onboard IDE controller has given up the ghost so I have purchased a PCI sata card to use a spare sata disk, the problem is I can't see any way to get the 180 to boot from the PCI card.  Anyone any ideas?

Yep - I disabled the PATA ports.
No - the card has no bios - I guess this is the problem.

  • Can a6614f boot from PCIe x1 card?

I've got an a6614f desktop PC. There are 4 SATA connections on the motherboard and they are all used up (2 optical drives, 2 HDDs). I've got an SSD coming and will be getting a PCIe x1 card to add more SATA ports. (PCIe x16 slot is being used by my GPU.)
Once I have the PCIe card installed, I'll have the option to plug the SSD into the card or directly to the motherboard. I've been told that the speed on the PCIe card will probably be faster than on the motherboard, so if possible I'd like to connect the SSD to the PCIe card. My question is, would the system be able to boot from a PCIe card?

    Hi,
I would buy one of these PCIe cards:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOT-x1-PCI-Express-x2-slot-SATA-III-4-port-PCI-e-Version-2-Controller-Card-N...
Now you may connect the SSD directly to a SATA slot on the motherboard and one of the HDDs (I'm guessing that the SSD will be a boot drive) or optical drives into a slot on the PCIe card.

  • Can I boot up an intel imac running os lion from a snowleopard install disk so that I can run my old power pc software

Can I boot up an intel imac running os lion from a snowleopard install disk so that I can run my old power pc software

If the Snow Leopard install disk came with or otherwise is compatible with your iMac, you can boot from it, but that won't allow you to run software (other than the utilities that are part of the installation set). You will have to install Snow Leopard, either on a partition on the iMac's internal hard drive or on an external drive, before you will be able to run applications.

  • T440s Boot from SD(XC) Card

    Hello,
is the T440s capable of booting from an SD card? I installed Ubuntu 13.10 + GRUB bootloader on a SD card but the card doesn't show up in the boot device list. Has anyone an idea what the problem could be?
    thx
    Schaber

Sure it can.  You just need a little bios hack.  Google and you'll find all sorts.

  • Booting an R100 from the SD Card slot.

I found mention of R200s (?) being able to boot from the SD Card if one put a 2.88Mb floppy image on SD media named as file $tosfd00.vfd and then chose the floppy icon from the Toshiba power-on boot menu.
I thus upgraded my BIOS to 1.60, used the Toshiba "SD Memory Card Format" utility, found an example boot image, copied it to my SD card, rebooted, chose the floppy disk icon (I'm assuming this overrides the boot order selectable within the Toshiba hardware utility) and had no luck - the machine booted from the HDD as usual.
Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

    Hi
As far as I know you can create bootable SD card using SD card boot utility. In this case the SD card has the same function like MS-DOS startup disk. Unfortunately it will not help you because with this boot SD card you can not see content of HDD. Just FAT32 partition is readable but not NTFS (available on your unit). You can use SD card for BIOS update or for user password saving. Thats all.

CWhat formats of videos can be played from the SDHC card on the Zen?' I realize that the SDHC card data is not integrated into the same functions as the data on the internal dri've. That's not my issue.
My issue is trying to find [color="#ff0000"]ANY videos that can be played [color="#ff0000"]AT ALL from the SDHC card.
I've been e-mailing with technical support for 2 weeks but it seems all I get is the run-around (and I different technician) with each e-mail reply.
First they tell me I have to get my videos from Amazon Unbox in order to play them. Then they tell me that, no, the Amazon ones don't play from the SDHC card.
Can anyone tell me what format or what source I can use to actually play videos from the SDHC card?
