Booting MSI NF750-G55 with locked HDD

Posted this in the BIOS section as well. Not sure which section it is most suited for....
My computer wont boot with a password protected SATA HDD attached. It just sits there and blinks with the cursor at the top left and will not advance. What do I need to change in the BIOS settings to allow my computer to post?

  • MSI NF750-G55 with AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition bundle from NewEgg

I purchased this CPU/Mobo bundle from NewEgg recently and am having a hard time getting anything to work.  Here are the components I am using:
    MSI NF750-G55 mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition CPU
    2x4Gb GSkill F3-10666CL9D-8GBSR DDRIII ram
EVGA GeForce GTX550 Ti SLI ready graphics board
ZUMAX X3 Series ATX 650Watt power supply
NZXT M59 ATX Mid tower case
Now to the problem - no POST
I have double checked the CPU seating and installation and its correct, have tried both on board video as well as the GeForce, and no signal to the monitor.  The 4 blue ASP power led's do light up, and the CPU fan spins, but only for a few seconds.  Then it shuts off, then restarts, and keeps cycling like this.  Have tried with no memory installed, same issue.  I have seen several entries on forums for no POST on this mobo.  Can anyone help me here?  Am I looking at a bad mobo or what?  Currently have it out of the case on a non conductive surface.

  • Msi nf750-g55 System Randomly Shutting down.

Hello everyone, Back in April of this year I built a system through newegg with the following Specs:
    Motherboard: MSI NF750-G55
Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 1090t (with stock heatsink)
    RAM: Corsair x4 2GB DDR3 1333
Power supply: Cougar 700W Sli ready
Graphic Configuration: two MSI Geforce 460 Cyclone GTXs running in SLI
Hard drives: 1 WD 300GB VolociRapter and a WD 500GB mybook removed out of its external
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Not long after I built the system (before I even thought of overclocking it) I began having a serious yet vague issue: It would shut down randomly. And I mean very randomly. Sometimes it occurs once every couple of hours, and other times it doesn't happen for more then a week. It doesn't seem to matter what I am doing on the system either. I could be playing games, or just listening to music and it will still happen, so I can't imagine its related to load. Its been a long, painstaking process to try and fix. I ruled out some of the parts it could be though. I have replaced the Power Supply with a higher quality model and an extra 50 watts, checked the temps on the system for a number of weeks while idle and under load (all looking cool except MCP), ran memtest86 successfully for a full 24 hour with no issues, as well as re installed windows 7 once. Issue still occurs.
To be perfectly honest I am not really sure where to go from here. I purchased all my parts through newegg, so I am confident I could RMA the component that is experiencing failures if that is the case, but there in lies the problem: I am not sure which one to RMA! I don't have a means to swap out parts, as no one i know has a system with a similar configuration as me.
I am suspicious of the Motherboard along with the processor, which is why I am posting in these forums...
Any ideas or suggestions as to how I could either fix the problem through configuration or pinpoint which hardware component is causing these random shutdowns would be much appreciated! I really don't want to run the risk of damaging any of the other components...

Swapped out my first 460 with my other one after 2 consecutive shut downs in 1 hour... haven't been around to continue working on it until recently, but atleast its looking like it isn't my cards.

it doesn't matter, software voltage measure isn't accurate you can't trust them.
If you want to check voltages [use multimeter],
or best test with another well known working and powerfull enough quality and single rail PSU
I got a question, why would single rail or multi rail make a difference? I hear the only reason they split the rails is for protection... and if both my PSUs are SLI ready, why are my components drawing too many amps?
So I guess its time to shell out another 100 - 150 bucks on a PSU... Can't say I'm thrilled. Looking for one with a single 12v rail. My question is this, would this single rail power supply meet my needs?

And if not can you or anyone make a recommendation(s)? Thanks!

As for the AMD standard paste, sorry but I remove that instantly and add my own itty-bitty-tiny drop of grease and smear it so thin you hardly see it.
Too much paste can cause this too, and yes I consider the AMD amount too much.
Heck without paste it will do a better job then the AMD amount, the CPU has a heat-spreader and doesn't need that much.
But, it could also be your heat-spreader is broken, as such CPU-temp-readings will reveal that.
Well, so far I've seen no problems with temps. The shutdowns don't seem to indicate that heat is a problem too. I can start the system immediately after a shutdown, it doesn't matter what I am doing on the system to make the shutdown occur, and my peripheral devices are sometimes still powered after a shutdown (such as caps lock on the keyboard).
Also, hardware monitor shows it idling at almost room temperature in the post above lol. Under load I think about 38 - 40c from what I remember seeing. I'll post a load temps pic after a few hours of torture testing tomorrow.
Also, I may have only personally built one other computer from scratch, but I have done quite a bit of troubleshooting, as well as assisted with other people's builds. Now I am not calling myself an expert by any means, but all that being said I have yet to come across or even hear of a CPU heat related problem where there was too much thermal paste on a stock heat sink... lol learn something everyday.

  • New computer MSI NF750-G55

    Hello All,
Just received a new shipment and the computer is not passing POST, Details as follows...
(oops) AMD Phenom II x6 1090T
MSI NF750-G55 BIOS default no software installed yet...
    GSkill 4x4GB DDR3 1333
    CoolMax 500w +3.3 30A +12v1 18A +12v2 16A -12v 1A 12v 380W
    On Board Video
Kingston 128gb SSD and Sony Sata DVD R/W
Getting post to the Checking vRam and it freezes, no input after that recognized.  Computer is new, I have tried with just 1 dimm installed (yes in the correct spot) and also with only the CPU, PSU, and keyboard connected.  All fail at that point.  Post code 008F reads at that point.
Any additional info will be given at request.

Check the BIOS chip, as you need at least BIOS 7578v13 for that CPU.
If the board doesn't have that version, you will need a supported CPU to flash it.
It may also be the memory you use, try 1 el-cheapo stick and see if it posts.
And last, if you PSU is this one:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159062&Tpk=CoolMax%20500w
That piece of junk will not power your system, it's old rubbish.

  • MSI NF750-G55 connecting the power button? noob question i know

just bought my computer, AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE and MSI NF750-G55 motherboard.
bought a nice cooler master case and i just need a little help setting up the power button and LEDs.
i understand everything in the manual that came with the motherboard completely i just need to know how to identify which cables from my case should be positive or negative?   im assuming that if a little arrow is pointing to the connector wire that it's positive?
any help is greatly appreciated, hate to fry my board first day out of the box...

For power & reset switches it doesn't matter which way you plug them in as long as you plug them in at the right place. They are simple momentary contact switches and polarity doesn't matter for them. As far as the LED's go if they are plugged into the right place they either light or they will not. If they don't light then simply swap (reverse) the connection and they should work. Just go by what the manual shows for the where part of plugging them in. You are not likely to fry anything.

  • MSI NF750-G55 Hangs

Ok, shooting in the dark here. I just purchased the MSI NF750-G55 from Newegg along with these components:
    CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800), sticks in slots 1,2
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor (including fan)
    XFX HD-485X-ZNFC Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit DDR3
Antec NEO ECO 400C 400W Continuous Power ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
The system hangs randomly. Sometimes with a BSOD (that disappears too fast to read), sometimes the screen just freezes requiring a hard reboot. Totally random, I can play Witcher II for hours just fine without and incident, or I can mess around with Solitaire and have it freeze 10 minutes in. I cannot find a pattern to it. Nothing in the Windows Event Logs other than the un-expected shutdown messages.
I have not messed around with the BIOS settings or played around with any overclocking functions, everything is stock/default.
I have run Memtest86, did not find nothing or hang the system. (let it run overnight)
Windows 7 64 Professional, latest drivers from MSI and ATI (for the video card).
Any suggestions as to where/how to start to troubleshoot this?

Umm isn't "Vengeance" memory for use with icore/Sandybridge systems?
I agree psu but then changed to ram issues when read the memory you're attempting to use with that system.
I'm not seeing any Vengeance on the list for your board, XMS yea but not Vengeance unless I missed it.
Not saying no way it can work but might require tweaking to do so.
Have you run memtest at all?
You really should be using the Corsair Dominator GT memory with your Phenom II see>http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz8gx3m2a1600c9.html click on the FAQs & Support link on the page.
Might RMA exchange it with newegg or if not there talk to "Ram guy" over at Corsairs support site, he'd surly help you out if you asked I'd think.
You might in the end get the Vengeance to work yea, if its the root cause of the issues you have now, tweaking it some to get it working right, might not be optimal to do so regardless.
Any way I'd run memtest if you haven't, see what that tells ya first.

  • 648 max, wont boot to cd with locked HDD connected

hi i hope you can help me, i bought my son a cheap second hand PC from a car boot sale, inside which is an MSI 648 max motherboard,
the problem i have is i am trying to attach a larger hard drive which is locked, usually to unlock the HDD i run a bootable cd-rom which is fine however when i try to boot the computer i get a message stating the hard drive is locked and i have 5 attempts to enter the password.
unfortunately i do not know the password as it is encrypted on the cd-rom, if only i could boot to cd-rom this wouldn't be a problem however i can not boot to cd-rom with the locked hard drive connected and obviously i cannot connect the hard drive after its booted to cd as it will not be detected,
when i try to access the boot menu i hit F11 as stated but all i get on the POST screen is "GO-->boot menu and then it hangs on the POST screen, what does this mean?
so my question is, is it possible to boot to CD with the locked HDD connected as im getting quite frustrated,
i hope i have given enough information but if you need anymore i shall happily provide
    many thanks
    Glenn

If the hard drive is still servicable you can use a bootable cd or floppy to erase the contents of the hard drive.
The ultimate boot cd has numerous apps to erase hdds. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Or just get another hard drive.
Could be something else wrong of course. At least the UBCD is free.

  • MOVED: MSI Nf750-G55 Epp/E.M.P/SLI support?

    Does the Nf750-G55 support EPP/X.M.P?
It definately does not support XMP Overclocking Profiles (they are for Intel Platforms only).  You modules do not have EPP Memory Overclocking Profiles (NVIDIA Chipset Platforms).
    Quote
And if it does how do i enable it?
As you do not have modules with EPP support and since your mainboard does not support Intel XMP Profiles, there is nothing to enable.
    Quote
I also want to know if it allows you to adjust voltages
You can adjust voltage values manually in the Cell Menu.

When i try to change the CAS latency to 7 i cant post.
Well, either don't set the CAS Latency to 7 then or raise the memory voltage accordingly and make sure that the Command Rate is manually set to 2T/2N.

  • Black screen at boot MSI Z77A-G43 with HD7850

    Hi,
I've tried everything You suggested in this topic. I've upgrade and downgrade bios (official 2.3, 2.4, 2.8, 2,9 / beta 256, 281,296) few times but still is black screen at boot. Now i'm on the newest beta bios 296 and still same issue on Sapphire HD 7850 with my Z77a-G43 board. I know for sure that sapphire working well because I've checked on other mobo with even worst PSU (400W instead 550W Volcano). Before hd 7850 I had gtx460 and swith those few times and always gtx460 works fine, so I don't understand anything right now.
Tried different slots, also clear cmos.
    Board: MSI Z77A-G43
    Bios: Version 296
    VGA:   Sapphire HD7850 1GB
    PSU:   Modecom Volcano 550W
    Intel Core i5-3570k
    MEM: Kingston 4GB 1600MHz
    HDD: 2xSSD
    Without OC
    OS: Windows 7 64bit Professional
Can You help me somehow, maybe I did not check something else?

Do you see the same problem on bios 2.90?
The Z77A-G43 seems the have difficulties accepting HD7xxx AMD VGA cards lately.
It seems that the problem is gone. I thought of it being an ATI driver issue ~ but not even the latest didn't fix it. But since I flashed to BIOS 2.9 I haven't encountered the problem anymore. So I believe something is fixed between 2.3 to 2.9.
However my problem was a bit different that the OP has.
Oh, and I said this on other thread so I say it here too: MSI and Asus 7xxx cards haven't faced the kind of issues Sapphires are having. I'm so glad to my choice... as I almost picked Sapphire but then read comments on Newegg which weren't in favor for Sapphire.

  • Setting up Dual Boot on a laptop with an HDD and an SSD?

    Hello,
I've had a Lenovo Y500 laptop for about a year now, and I'd really like to run Arch on it. I've been using Arch on a virtual machine for a while now, and I have tried other distros like Gentoo and Slackware, but Arch is by far my favorite. I find myself spending most of my time on Arch with only 1GB RAM and 32GB hard disk space allocated, when I could be on my 8GB RAM Windows machine.
The laptop has a 1TB HDD which is split into two partitions, a 883GB C: drive(entitled Windows OS) and a 25GB D: drive (entitled Lenovo), and a 16GB SSD which I imagine is for cache. I think I would like to allocate 256GB for Arch, since I really don't need much space to run Arch.
Obviously I have to set up another partition, but I really don't know how to do that, especially without screwing up my HDD and SSD configuration.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks a lot

    Ensure you have read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Partitioning
Gparted worked very well for me several years ago when I re-sized the (gack!) Vista partition that came on this laptop to make room for a real OS.  I had no problems -- be advised that this is a BIOS machine.  Be sure you back up anything important to you before you start.

  • MSI NF750-G55 and 8 Gb DDR3 using 1 stick?

This MB can support up to 16 Gb of RAM using DDR3. There are 4 places for sticks. Can I use 1 stick with 8Gb on board? There is no information about this in site or manual.

Ok. Thank you for swift answer

  • NF750-G55 New Build Won't Boot to DVD

I'm doing a rebuild of a system in which the old motherboard failed. This is only the second time I have done a build, so forgive any apparent ignorance. The following describes the system: Motherboard: MSI NF750-G55, CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 450, PSU: Hiper Type R MkII 880W, Case: Antec Three Hundred, Memory: Rendition by Crucial 1 X 4GB, Hard Drive: Seagate 400 GB, DVD: Samsung 22X SpeedPlus. Only the case, PSU and DVD come from the first build I did 18 months ago and were fine until the old MOBO failed.
The problem I'm encountering with the new MSI NF750-G55 is booting to the DVD so I can load Windows Vista onto the hard drive. The POST gives me a Bad CHKSUM error and directs me to bios setup. In setup, the Boot Sequence shows my DVD and hard drives as disabled and won't let me enable either.
I've uninstalled everything, cleared the CMOS and reinstalled everything five times. Nevertheless I am still getting the same error message and can't enable either  my DVD drive or hard drive. Therefore, I'm unable to successfully boot up and load windows onto the new hard drive.
I'm out of ideas and ready to return the MOBO to Newegg for another, but I would rather fix the problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try next before I ask for an RMA?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide this newbie.

Quote from: Pixy on 16-April-11, 04:24:53
I've tried loading defaults (both optimized and fail-safe) in bios setup as well as by using F2 in the chksum error screen. All result in a screen that looks like this:
The text that is obscured in the upper part of the screen reads:
BTX loader 1.0 BTX version is 1.01
    Console: internal video/keyboard
Bios drive C: is disk 0
    Bios 636kB/2030208kB available memory
Once in that screen, the only way out is to unplug the PSU and reset the CMOS.
As I said before, I'm stymied and have no idea what to try next.

do not do this, just hit reset button then press F11 during BIOS post screen and boot from your optical drive.

I pulled one of the OC switches down to overclock by 10% and it work fine and my phenon 955 went from 3.2 to 3.5, but when i try 15% or 20% by switching the other ones pc would not boot at all untill i cleared my cmos, I'm new to overclocking and i don't know much about it.. i got a HAD 922 case with lots of fans and i got a coolermaster v10 cpu cooler which works great. I really want to oc it up to 4.0ghz. Don't know whats going on or why it wouldn't let.. i remember when i tried doing 15% oc my pc turned on and said something about bootmgr and it being corrupt? nothing worked untill i turned it off and cleared cmos.. I don't know what it is that i need to do. I have a Ultra 750wat psu btw. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Your BSOD'ing during load because your cpu is too hot.... now that you've got 4Ghz to boot..back off the voltage (1 step down at a time) until you stay under 45*C.. If you go too low you wont be stable...if you go too high you'll overheat and crash. These chips don't like anything above 50*C.... hell I start to worry about stability at 45*C. AMD states the max (recommended) is 66*C. I say B.S. and just stay under 50*C to be safe.
Also... you will not be able to do 1800mhz ram w/ a 4Ghz CPU clock.... the IMC just isn't strong enough. You'd be much better off at 1333mhz and tightening up your timings a tad. If your looking for graphics performance... OC your NB and HT clocks. You'll gain 12-16 fps in Vantage upping your NB to 2800mhz and your HT to ~2500mhz while keeping the CPU cool and comfortable at ~3.8Ghz. (this is especially helpful if you ever plan on going SLI)

  • MSI NF750 G-55 AM3 DDR3 EZ OC switch problems please help

I bought an MSI NF750 G55 AM3 DDR3 about a few months ago (i tried unlocking a AMD phenom II 550 BE which failed) other than that with my new AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE was working and when i got curious i tried to turn the OC switches it ran fairly well with 20% speed increase between the ram and CPU but became unstable about 3 days after (temps were all fine and normal) in the sense that my computer started randomly powering down so i turn the OC switches back to the default location and i have had computer shutdowns as stil. it only does it when im putting my computer under load though . (no data loss) i even restored my bios defaults and CPUz says my clocks are back to normal but theres still some instability in my system i dont know where but if you could help me find out where the problem is i would be very greatful im also running the AMD Cool n Quiet option i dont think that would do anything though please help
