  • How to boot from CD-Rom on 520CDT with no OS on hard drive

    Hi
I formatted the drive on this Tecra 520CDT laptop (old I know but I have a use for it), only to discover that it does not seem to want to boot from the CD-Rom drive. I no longer have the interchangeable floppy drive. Any suggestions as to how I could force it to boot from CD-Rom (I have changed boot order in Bios) Windows disks or something else?
Until I can do so, I cannot reinstall an OS.
Alternatively, will any old external floppy drive work, and if so which port? will it boot from parallel port?
    Thanks
    Jonathan

    Hi,
on these "Oldies" you have to create a boot floppy disk with the CD Driver.
Then you must connect the CD and Floppy Drives, have to boot this Floppy disk and C: prompt will be available!
Then when the CD ROM driver was loaded you can start the CD.
It can be that you need the original Toshiba Drives!

  • Satellite M45: Cannot boot from CD-ROM or HDD

    I'm getting the following messages...
WHEN BOOTING FROM HDD: "Invalid partition table"
WHEN BOOTING FROM CD-ROM: "No Bootable CD in ATAPI CD-ROM"
Consequently, even though I have the recovery CDs the computer cannot read them.
I tried changing boot order to no avail. Created a Bart's bootable CD which works in my other computer but not in this laptop. Are there special drivers I need for this CD-ROM?
I am at wits end on this one.
    Thanks

    Hi
I think your partition on the HDD is corrupt and therefore you cannot boot from the HDD.
In such cases the HDD should be completely formatted and then you could try to install the OS.
It seems also that your drive cannot recognize the bootable CD (WinXP???) and therefore its not possible to boot from the drive.
Well, its really stupid situation :_| really stupid!
However, did you try booting from other CD? For example original Microsoft Windows CD?
If not I would recommend to do it and possibly the drive will be able to read the other CD.
If not so I think the drive must be checked. Possibly its also corrupt.

  • HP 2000 cannot boot from cd rom

I have made a DVD boot disc, but cannot get my HP 2000 to boot from CD ROM.  I altered the bios setup to enable boot from CD ROM and I made CD/DVD the first boot option.  I also have tried F9 to enter the boot options menu.  I do not see an option to boot from CD ROM.  How can I get my HP 2000 to boot from CD/DVD?
I am messing around with the TAILS operating system.  My ultimate goal is to boot TAILS from the DVD drive.  I also have tried booting tails from USB, but after reading a while on this issue I have read that some HP machines do not support booting from USB.

I need to resurrect this thread.  Still cannot boot from the CD drive.  I have verified my boot disc, so the problem is with the laptop.  Same setup as I noted above regarding bios and OS.
    Laptop is HP 2000-2d60DX
    Bios is INSYDE F.45, 2/10/2014
My basic problem is still that when I enter the boot options menu, boot from CD/DVD is not an option.
While researching I did come across this post,  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Recovery/How-to-boot-from-USB-with-the-new-uefi-bios/td-p/2552... It states that legacy boot needs to be enabled.  However, when begining to enable Legacy Boot I receive the warning that the laptop will not be able to boot the OS (Windows 8.1), so I cancel changes.  I would prefer not to have to enable/disable legacy boot everytime I try to switch between Windows and TAILs.
At this point, it would help to confirm that I have the needed version of the Bios (guess I should call it UEFI).  Also, clarify if enabling Legacy Boot is needed.
    Thanks.

  • Can't boot correctly or resume from sleep Compaq laptop, blinking caps light

Hi everyone, I'd like to know if there's a way to fix this weird problem, my laptop can't boot correctly (it shows the CPU blinking caps error code), and after reseting 4 times or so it boots successfully and it works great after that (never saw a BSOD or hang or anything). I can't also resume the laptop from sleep, it shows the same blinking error code.
I had the same problem like 3 months ago, I replaced the CPU with a new one and it worked without a hassle until now. (The reseting trick didn't work back then, so I guess it's a different problem now). Also since then the laptop never overheated, my CPU is always underclocked at 25% using the Maximum Processor State setting in Windows (it probably isn't underclocked at 25%, more likely at 50% or so, but I can certainly feel the difference because it never got really hot, the CPU reports a temperature of 110F/48C under normal use, and it always feels cool to the touch).
I mean, although the laptop works once I get it to boot, not only it's annoying but also I don't know how long it is gonna work doing like 5 resets every single day.
I've tried the arrow keys trick, pressing the power button without the battery or AC connection, I have also reset the BIOS, it booted correctly the first time (it asked to reset the BIOS settings to default), but afterwards it showed the same behavior.
Please don't waste your time telling me to buy a new motherboard and/or CPU, that would be impractical because it's way more convenient to buy a new laptop in that case.
    Thank you very much.

Okay so after like a month or so I found a way to boot it up without problems, it also fixes the sleep problem. So if anyone is having the same problems, try the following: Turn on your laptop pressing the power button for a couple of seconds (just until you see the boot screens) as soon as possible after you connect the AC cable.

  • Can't get my Imac to boot from CD rom

Sorry for posting the same thread. I made a mistake on the last threads title but I marked the last one as answered. Anyways,I'am trying to use the Mac install CD version of disk utility to repair parts of the disk that can't be repaired by the one on the operating system. I tried holding option key. Whenever I click CD rom, it still boots from the hard drive. I also tried using system preferences to boot boot from CD rom, holding c at startup, and holding cmd option shift delete at startup and it still boots from the hard drive. Why is the computer doing this?

Selected the clone from Preferences > Startup, did a reboot and it still appears that the booting is from the internal HD. I mean it appears like  90% of the booting sound comes from the internal HD, there is only a bit of light flicker (LED) at the beginning and the end of the booting process on the external HD. The clone is named 'clone'.
I did booting from an external HD on my old G5 imac a good few times, it took a while longer and I coud hear and see the booting (LED) from external HD, so I have kind of a 'feeling' how it should be like.
The external HD starts up no problem. It appears on the desktop, I can select it under Preferences > Startup and it shows up during startup using option-key.
Having done the booting, selecting the external HD, I can dismount it and still can open programms and documents, so it ought to be the internal HD ?

  • Not booting from CD ROM

    Hi,
I have Sunblade 150. The HDD of system is totally crashed. I want to boot it from CD ROM to do the installation of Solaris 8. But i am not finding the option to boot it from CD ROM. When ever I start the system it tries to boot from network. The HDD of system is blank and unpartioned. How do I boot the system from CDROM .........Can any one help me.......
    Regards'
    Animesh

    Hello Animesh ,
power the system on. Wait a few seconds, then press the keys STOP and A simultaneously. This should get you to the ok-prompt.
When you see the prompt, enter setenv auto-boot? false and setenv diag-switch? false. The first command disables automatic boot from the boot-device (which is either one of the disks or the network). The second command disables diagnostics (the POST Power-On-Selftest is not affected). If no bootable device is found, the system tries to boot from the network (the diag-device).
Then insert the Software 1 CD (the Blade 150 requires Solaris 8 2/02 or newer) and enter boot cdrom to start the installation.
When the installation is finished, on the next power-cycle the system won't boot automatically. Just enter setenv auto-boot? true to re-enable automatic boot. Then enter boot.

  • How to boot a Lenovo G580 from disk

Okay! Apologies if I've missed this exact same post somewhere, I Googled for literally days and couldn't find a sausage about how to boot my Lenovo G580 from disk but I've finally, by accident, found the answer!
So, when you go to the boot menu, it'll look something like this:
(Note: this image is taken from Google, I had no way of taking a picture of my own)
Now, if you're like me, you would think that in order to boot the laptop from a disk, you'd need to re-order so that the highlighted line was at the top! Makes sense, right? Well let me tell you, I don't know what the heck that is but it sure ain't the right option to boot from disk. You need to actually make the 'USB CD' option the first one and viola! It works! I did it on a whim because I'd tried everything else, why not right? Turns out I'm the luckiest person in the world and I did a victory lap of the house.

    Hi Daniel,
    thank you for your reply.
I just checked again if I can boot the RT-system without the floppy disk, from harddisk only - but that doesn't work ("DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK...").
Of course, the boot order in BIOS is set up appropriately to allow booting from harddisk.
And also, the complete software package was already installed on harddisk via MAX through the previously configured network connection.
Actually, it seems there is no boot loader installed on harddisk at RT-systems for desktop-PC's.
The boot loader has to be launched from the floppy boot disk and afterwards, the further boot program is loaded from hard disk.
Is there anyone who can boot a desktop-PC into RT without the floppy disk? And what do I have to set up in order to make it work for our system?
    Thanks,
    Tom S.

  • Boot up and wake from sleep noise from superdrive normal???

whenever booting up or waking from sleep, the superdrive seems to make a loud, not grinding, but close to grinding noise.
this noise is on other mbp's that i tested at the apple store, but it's really annoying, like your drive is about to die.
this happens every time on boot up and wake from sleep. do others find this acceptable or normal?
everything else is great. i do have the cpu idle whine, but it's intermittent and running the mirror widget definitely resolves the issue until the next restart.

that's really unfortunate. coming from pc side of computing, i don't recall such an awful sound when booting up laptops tha t had similar drives.
as for previous apple notebooks, i could only comment on the ibook g3 model which had a more pleasing mechanical sound...kind of like whirring(although not a superdrive).
also, a car cd player mechanism is much smoother and much more quiet. apple should pay more attention to this area like bmw does.
the only solution is to keep a cd or dvd loaded in the drive, but peace and quiet comes at the expense of battery longevity.

  • NOT as a cache, can i boot Windows 8 directly from MSATA 128gb on an Envy 4 1026tu..?

Can i install & boot Windows 8 directly from MSATA 128gb on an Envy 4 1026tu..? Not as a cache. I want to keep my existing HDD as extra storage. Can i clean install Windows 8 and boot directly from a 128gb MSATA on my Envy 4 1026tu?  Could anyone please advise me if this could be done. Thanks!

    Hi,
In theory nothing can stop you to do that. You have to disable the HDD before install OS on the mSATA. One important thing: The BIOS allows you to do that. I know Dell people have done that. At the mean time, the following article may help:

    Good luck.
ps My HP machine has only 32Gb and inaccessible.

  • Unable to boot Windows 7 Premium from an external harddrive

I recently gained an interest in playing microsoft based games, and just recently got my late 2013 macbook pro retina 15". I have been trying for several hours for the last two days to get bootcamp to boot Windows 7 Premium from a 500GB external harddrive without re-partiitioning my internal harddrive. I can get to the first screen of the Windows 7 Install asking about language, but neither my keyboard or mousepad respond with the windows installer. I assume this is because Windows 7 premium does not have USB 3.0 capability. Is there a workaround for this that doesn't involve partitioning my internal drive?

That's all fine and good, but I would strongly prefer not to have to use internal drive space for Windows. Even If I were to use the internal drive to install it, I would still run into the same problems of not having a keyboard or trackpad as I've seen other users having issues with. It stands to reason that if I had a working keyboard and mouse that I would be able to install it to an external hard drive, using a workaround method found here:
    http://bleeptobleep.blogspot.fr/2013/02/mac-install-windows-7-or-8-on-external.h tml
If I had to partition my internal drive, what would be the absolute minimum amount of space I would need?

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

    No... do not move programs.
    About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
