  • Q5 booting problem: cold start every time

    Hi,
I've recently changed from a Curve 9320 to the new Q5 and I am more than happy about this phone - however, there is one problem: Whenever I turn the Q5 off, switching it on will inevitably result in a cold start which takes about 2 min. before I can use the phone again.
I have already spoken to my dealer (O2 in Germany) but they just don't know anything about BB devices so hopefully someone here can help me getting this fixed or deciding whether I need to get a new phone instead...
    Thanks in advance!
    Armin

    My blackberry 8320 take about 3min , my 9300 2min and my 8520 4min
The Curve series is better than the Q series. I never see so much problem in one phone , I can't  Call with it  !
The 9320 is a good model and the battery is excellent,  i may buy it or the 9360 because i can't stay with a phone who can't call .

  • LAN boot problem; Data corruption

2 Major problems I have found with this board, and need help with immediately.  I've built on MANY of these boards and have seen 1 or both of these 2 problems on about 1 of every 5 MSI K8T boards I build on.
1: Lan Boot Problem:  The computer will freeze the majority of the time when it passes through the REALTEK boot agent.  BBS LAN is NOT in the boot devices list, and boot other devices is DISABLED.   I've tried about every setting from within the boot agent with no success.  It freezes somewhere around the 7th or so ".".The computer will boot as normal with the LAN cable unplugged.  Simply unplugging it every time the machine is booted is of course, unacceptable.
2: In combination with WD hard drives, a certain large percentage of the boards will have CONSISTENT data corruption.. about every 2 weeks XP will be magically missing some files, causing it to not boot.  Sometimes last known good fixes it, sometimes a fixboot/fixmbr will fix it, sometimes a complete reinstall is needed.
Does anyone have any information as to the cause or cures of these problems?  They seem to be found only in the K8T board and none of the other boards I work with.

That's pretty strange.  The power supply causing the hanging with the boot rom, that is.  The ability to not skip the boot agent, even when it is set to a) boot from BIOS devices (which doesn't include the BBS NET or boot other devices) or b) ROM DISABLE in the config utility.  Especially when you consider it's done it on MANY configurations, and your site/box/anywhere has NO MENTION of power supply issues or compatability problems.    The manual says "Power supply of 300 (and up) watt is highly recommended for system stability" - Nothing else.
Is this is the quality assurance we should expect from a company that offers us, "The extreme chip you ever needed"?
Why has this issue that rules out using the greater chunk of the market's power supplies not been mentioned, and why is it only a problem with MSI's K8T board?

  • Random Freezing and booting problems

My MBP (4 years old) randomly freezes and the only button works is the power button. It has booting problems as well
    Done already
    clean install of snow leopard
    PRAM reset
Safe Boot (boots again after using safe boot but still freezes after a couple of minutes)
AHT hardware test with no result
Still freezes after 1 to 15 minutes.
    Anything else I cab do?

Wow my first time i use this forum and a fast reply.
Unfortunately not at home at the moment so can not give exact answers.
When my mac book freezes the fan still works, keyboard and touch pad do not work anymore. I don't think caps lock light works but not sure.
Have original ram and a retail SL disc.
When I have booting problems I can see the spinning wheel and after that only blue screen. If I power off and start in safe mode and then restart again mbp will boot again for 2,3 or 4 times and then stop booting again but still freezing after a couple of minutes.
The funny thing with the booting is after I see the blue screen I can still connect from my mac mini and browse my MBP from my mac mini.(screen sharing does not work though).
And do not know what smart status is
But thank you for your quick reply.

  • Beige G3 boot problems.

    Hello everyone,
I have a Beige G3 MT with the following specs:
    541 MHz G4 processor
    83 MHz System Bus
    384 MB PC133 SDRAM (2x128 MB, 1x 256 MB Single-sided)
ATI Radeon Mac Edition with 32 MB VRAM
Keyspan PCI USB 1.1 card (OPTi)
80 GB 5400 RPM Samsung HD on the onboard IDE
Apple CDRW unit pulled from a Quicksilver G4
    Inactive SCSI
Original PRAM Battery (but apparently still in good state)
Oh, and an AV personality card.
The Hard Drive is partitioned into three sections:
-One 7.9 GB Partition for OS X (Jaguar)
-One 2.5 GB Partition for OS 9.1
-And another partition for all the rest
I have transfered the mobo to a PC ATX case, which involved removing the DB-15 port. The default video output is set to the Radeon thanks to XPF.
Everything worked fine for a few months (Both Jaguar and 9.1 took an eternity to boot, but that seems normal). Recently Jaguar became very unstable, and often froze. After a few restarts, I would run into a kernel panic at each startup, right before the desktop appears.
Now, when I power up the machine, I get the chime, run into the Open Firmware screen, with the message 'can't OPEN' repeating itself. The ADB keyboard still works, and the computer boots into the standard Open Firmware screen ( with the boot options) when the Command, Option, O and F keys are held down. When I try to boot into Jaguar, I get the same 'can't OPEN' message, and when I attempt to boot into OS 9, it freezes. Booting with CMD-Opt-P-R makes the computer reboot as usual, but when I let it boot normally into OS 9 after the third chime, it freezes.
I cannot boot from a CD, as I presume that the problem occurs before boot options are considered. At any rate, inserting an OS 9 or OS X CD and holding down the C key has no effect whatsoever.
I am now out of solutions and theories, and any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Macinnerd.

Thank you all very much for your quick, helpful and abundant answers.
Dan- The G3 sets the default output to the built-in RagePro (it's Pro indeed, thanks for the correction) graphics system, anything during the boot before the blue OS X screen is displayed through the default output. As I have removed the DB15 port (large cracks were appearing in the original case...), the ragePro is completely useless, and I need to set the Radeon as default output in order to see any messages or screens during the initial bits of the startup process.
The CDRW pulled from the G4 is a genuine Apple device, and I have booted OS CDs from it before, so there are no problems there.
AllanGlenHW- Yes, the Beige has spent a few months unplugged before being put back to use a few years ago. As I said, the battery is the original one, so it really needs to be changed, I guess.
Are there any other devices (cameras?...) that use the same battery so that I may go find it in some photo store or something?
    Mauro-
The BEige was having difficulties installing Jaguar on its own so I decided to use XPostFAcTo. Obviously that has good sides ans bad sides, as you pointed out.
The question is: is there a way to effectively remove it (and all extensions) from the System?
The problems started approximately two months after the relocation. I don't think that the relocation is the culprit, though...
    Grant-
When attempting to get the Beige to reset PRAM, I sometimes get a freeze after two chimes and sometimes it goes long as long as I hold down the keys.
It's an interestins (and most likely useful) piece of advice. Thanks.
    Patrick+Frank-
Yes, the 256 stick is a single sided 8 chip one, and the system has always detected only 384 MB. It was already like this when I got the machine.
Thanks for all the advice. But I have a question about finding the batteries:
Are there any other devices (cameras?...) that use the same battery so that I may go find it in some photo store or something?
I live in France (not French, mind you), and can't find any similar PRAM batteries in any of the big computing sites.

  • Cd rom boot problems with MEGA 180

I recently recieved my MEGA 180 and have been unable to successfully install an OS because when I boot from CD, the computer freezes at various stages of installation. The point at which it freezes varies between the point at which the CD is initialized to anywhere in the windows xp setup process up untill the drive format. Occassionally the lockup coincides with an error copying a file, but this is not consistent. I have tried two different cd-rom drives as well as three different xp installation cds. Further I have run with 5 different sticks of ram (kingston and corsair). None of these changes have had any obvious effect.
Having read the warning labes regarding non MSI optical devices, I am tempted to think that may be the problem as I am not running on an MSI drive. However, the warning souned like it was about mechanical parts and thus I assume the ability of a drive to fit in the MEGA 180 case while opening and closing correctly.
I would appreciate any input you might have on this matter as I am finding this experience rather frustrating.

I had the exact same problem when upgrading from a 2100+ Palamino processor to a 2800+ Thoroghbred one. The screen had already dissappeared due to powering up with no monitor plugged in, so I tried a reinstall of Windows XP. It kept falling over randomly during the install process. I then swapper the CPU back and had no problems at all. I have since lapped the heatsink and reduced the FSB to 157MHz in the BIOS, and have not had a problem with the 2800+ CPU. I have not tried installing windows again, but feel this will be OK too.
My test is to run FujiFilm Snapshot Slideshow, which sends the CPU temp rocketting. I have found that when it goes above 70 C it starts getting unstable. I throttled the FSB back to 157MHz and it does not get to 70 C any more. In normal operation it never gets above 60 C, so I don't know why the slideshow takes so much CPU power

  • A very strange boot problem not yet found in the User Forums

    Hi
I know you guys are fed up with all the booting problems, but this one is the strangest one I've yet come across.
I'm putting a PC together to function as an extra render for my 3D animations. Here is the specs as follows.
    865PE Neo2-P Mobo
    Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz Processor
2 x 256 DDR 400MHz Memory modules (two of the exact same make and model)
    300w PSU
    60GB HDD Maxdor
    nVidia nForce 5600
    here is the problem.
It goes past the post, but then the system stops there. It does not go to boot at all.
In the top of the screen below the memory testing and above the HDD and DVD Ram listings it displays as follows:
DEL -> Bios, F12 - Boot Menu etc.
when i press any of keys listed there, that line changes accordingly to the function I selected.
I can get into the BIOS.
But the Motherboard does not boot any further, it just stays there.
I tried diffrent memory, CPU, Powersupply etc, but to no avail.
(I disabled the QUICK BOOT options to see what problems it may give, but it lists none what so ever.)
On the motherboard, where the DIMM2 starts and the MSI CoreCell chip, to above the IDE1 connector to the full length of the IDE connectors, it looks like the transistors/chips connections has a kind of plaque, it does not shine like the rest. Could that be the problem? How can I clean it?
Please help, this is sort of urgent!!!!!!

    Disconnect hard & optical drives........
    Power up system.
Do you still have freeze on post? (Start up)
I would also concur with Bas, 300w psu no go.
Intel P4 478 2.4 and above Northwood processors are very power hungry. You would be advise to look for PSU with at least 24amps on the +12V rail....... (Enermax 465 and some 365's or the new Corsair VX 450)

  • Safe boot problem.

Yesterday my iMac started to freeze up on my desktop and wouldn't open any applications. From my phone, I looked up solutions to this problem. Everybody said to try a safe boot and how to do it, so of course I tried it. Ever since I tried the safe boot my computer is worse. Now, on start up the Apple logo appears as well as a progress bar. The progress bars reaches, i'd say, FIVE % before the iMac just completely shuts itself off. I have tried EVERYTHING I can that doesn't involve physically putting a disk in. I bought my computer off of Craigslist about 2 years ago and was never given the disk so I am unable to follow instructions that involve using one. All the answers I have previously been given I have ALREADY tried countless times and STILL, nothing works. My computer remains on start up with the grey screen, apple icon & progress bar and then shuts itself off every.single.time. I am losing my patience.

What version of OS X are you running?

  • HP phoenix 1183 little boot problem

    Hi,
I bought an hp phoenix 1183 a few months ago. Now i am experiencing a strange problem for  3-4 days now. When I open my computer, it boots up fast in like 10-15 sec because of the SSD and  just after entering the home screen, it freezes for 2-3 min and then it runs like a charm like nothing happenned. It close fast like it was new i just have this little problem when it starts it freeze at the home screen for a few minutes and then works fine. I analyzed my system with antivirus, i got nothing. I installed intel SSD toolbox, my health is 100%, SMART and everything is ok. I never did an update of any driver I use the factory drivers and so far until this I never got that problem. Three weeks ago, i upgraded my ram and I checked everything if its compatible and it worked like a charm, it's same speed 1333mhz ddr3 240 pin Kingston, I checked on the internet to see if it works with this model and I checked the supported RAM on the motherboard before upgrading. I am pretty sure that it is not because of the RAM because it works fine and windows recognize it and everything, and in plus, this problem happened to me a few times before I upgraded my ram (I thought back then that it was only a windows bug).  I am also pretty sure that the ram is not deffective because it never failed and I got no hardware errors. So what is it?
    Thanks you for your answers
    Vlad

Hello alexjedicool.  I understand you're having some issues with your computer hanging.  Also, I like your name!
A good first step will be to run a diagnostic on the RAM just in case.  You'll want to create some bootable media to run the MemTest application.
Also, I'd like you to run a check on your computer's system files.  Try the following.
Click Start, type "cmd," and press Enter.
Type the "sfc /scannow" command and press Enter.
    Allow the process to complete.
    Post the results.
Also, what is your computer's product number?  This document can show you where it is located.
    Have a wonderful day!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • Two major problems - losing internet and freeze

In the past 48 hours I am having major problems with my MacBook Pro-13" running Snow Leopard 10.6.4:
    1. Loses internet after 2-20 minutes: WiFi or cable connection: The checkmark next to the selected WiFi ISP is suddenly not there even though it indicates WiFi is connected. It is not and only a RESTART brings it back.
    2. When left a few hours the MacBook Pro goes dark and it still has a slight humming sound but it is frozen like black ice - and a forced restart via the start button on the upper right is the only way to bring it back.
I've reinstalled the OS X from the Install DVD - 10.6.3 and I upgraded back to 10.6.4 when the problems were still there - and still there. Could this be some shareware or other program conflict? Yes, it could - but I don't know what else to do. Someone said keep the CONSOLE running and it may have some message after this happens again. But so far nothing that seems interesting... but what do I know...?!
I did not do a clean install - perhaps I should - but I need to get all my data backed-up (I have a 2 day old and a 6 day old full bootable backup; and when this runs, this Mac is still doing fine.)
It does seem maybe to be a Hard Drive issue?? #2 problem - not sure what is causing the internet to drop and not come back- no way to get it back without restarting.
Thanks for any feedback - still well under the warrantee - but hope I can solve this myself.
Well I'll have to copy and paste this later- Internet gone just in the 5 minutes to type this! I'll have to restart...
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte
    Saturday 9 October 2010

OK getting maybe a bit closer. First- still have that HARDWARE ERROR I mentioned earlier-- OK but now I did a SAFE BOOT - held down the SHIFT key while starting-up; and voilà - it has been 1 hour connected to the internet via WiFi and no freeze! That's a record! Also indicates this may be a software issue.
BUT BUT BUT - during that hour - the WiFi went away - and no way to get it back without restarting -- I was able to connect the cable ethernet and that's what I'm using to send this (two different ISP's). VERY strange that the WiFi suddenly isn't there (no checkmark by the name of the WiFi) and that there is then NO WAY to get it back other than a restart! (That was the same issue with the regular boot).
OK so it seems the SAFE BOOT is preventing the cursor freeze- but why? I haven't added fonts in the past 48 hours or longer - so not a corrupt font. I did upgrade to Adobe Reader 9.4.0 I believe it is - yes - that is new and could it be causing this??? I've opened it - let's see later.
I got rid of HyperDock 0.9.8; and iStat 2 (which seemed to be what caused all this - I loaded that Thursday evening and Friday my Mac was frozen...)
But they are gone now -
OK any and all comments welcome - and any hints on how to move back to standard boot - i.e. what to junk or not have start-up and how to avoid something from not starting if it is a font or ???
    Regards,
    Steve

  • Boot problem / Hard drive won't spin up  and folder icon shows

    Hi,
Last week my ipod started giving me this problem, which started by it just stopping in the middle of a song (possibly because of lack of battery power).
When the ipod tries to boot I see the apple icon and hear the disk try to spin up for about 2 seconds. Then it gives a click, spins down, and starts the process all over again for several times until finally showing the dreaded folder icon.
When this happened last week I tried to charge using the cradle, but it didn't help. When I plugged it into the wall socket, VOILA! it worked. I went on my merry way for a week of listening, assuming the problem was all caused by a weak battery. During this week the computer was not able to mount the ipod disk.
Until yesterday, when the battery ran out in the middle of playing. The same exact symptoms occur, but this time the wall socket doesn't help. I think there was a sudden drop in power because the battery was fairly charged and then I saw it at complete zero, and I have also seen the battery icon show for a split second when trying to reset. I have of course tried as many of the 5 R's as I could do, but with no luck.
any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks,
    ubloomie

If you can open up the case, you can try reviving the hard drive one last time. some people have had luck with sealing the drive in a plastic bag (to keep out moisture) and putting it in the freezer, and then firing it up.
Also you could try giving it a good sharp shock, which sometimes gets you one more spin-up.

  • Severe problem while starting Lenovo 3000 N200

    Dear friends & experts,
I am using Lenovo 3000N200 0769BDG laptop. I have following problems while starting the system.
Recently my system was hacked against which I installed an Anti-Malware software. It showed that the system was free from any Malware.(But believe me, it is true that the system was hacked.). But each time on starting the system, a  black and white window  is being displayed which contains the following message:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows didnot start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration  to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed , or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.
    Safe  Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
    Start Windows Normally
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
    Seconds until Windows starts:30.....1
After 30 seconds, the Windows logo is displayed immediately followed by a Blue screen which lasts for 1 second and the system restarts.  I tried all the options listed above-- from Safe Mode to Start Windows Normally but the same problem recurrs. And the system doesn't shutdown until I press the power button.
I have a licensed version of Windows Xp SP3 as OS. I tried to repair the system using WinXP CD but I found the following message:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.
A point to be noted is that earlier, I removed the Rescue & Recovery from my system  thinking that it might not be of much use and now, I lament for it.
When I press F3 the same window appeared and the same problem recurred.
I tried to access the files in my hard disk using Ubuntu CD and it was successful. I used Lenovo hardware quick test to check for any hardware faults, and my system passed all the tests.
I request you to help me in solving this problem so that I can continue my studies peacefully.
    Thanking you,
    With regards,
    T.I. Kiran

First off, being "hacked" and having viruses/malware are two different things. Someone hacking your computer doesn't really mean you have a virus/malware, it means an actual person gained access to your computer remotely and did something to it.
More than likely you got a virus that corrupt your Windows System directory and/or registry. Anti-malware software won't necescarily detect all viruses, especially executable that run commands to simply delete files.
The blue screen you're seeing is what us technicians call the BSOD (blue screen of death), it's an indication that there is a direct corruption with the core files that Windows requires to function properly.
As an IT Technician, if this were one of my laptops or one of my end-users, I would simply reload it with a fresh copy of Windows XP. There's a possiblity that all data you had on the laptop is gone because if the Windows core files are corrupt/missing, then that could very well mean your system was wiped completely but the boot table is in tact, hence the fact that you even have the option to boot Windows XP.
One other option I would suggest is try to reinstall Windows XP. Sometimes if you have the right copy of the install, it will let you reinstall the Windows XP core files, leaving your programs, files and directories in tact.
    Good luck.

  • HELP! Started as freezing and now won't start!

Just to start, I have a Satellite P500 (P500-ST6822 to be specific).
    Specs:
    System Manufacturer/Model Number: TOSHIBA/Satellite P500-ST6822
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 2.53GHz
    Memory: 6144MB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M
    Hard Drives: Hitachi HTS723232L9A360 - 320GB
At first my laptop just started to freeze every so often. The last major change that happened was installing Bioshock 2, but I really doubt that is the cause of my problems. I do not pirate, torrent, download sketchy files. I build my own desktops, but when I have issues I can normally just blame myself and figured out what's wrong. Because this laptop was built by someone else, I'm at a bit of a loss.
When things were working, but still freezing, the freezing would even occur in Safe Mode. Now when I try to start it up, the lights come on as if it's working fine, but nothing shows up. It's not just that the display isn't working, otherwise it would make the Windows startup noise at some point after leaving it. On 3 occasions of trying to start it the computer beeped a couple times. 1 somewhat long beep and 2 quick ones.
Because nothing even shows up I'm doubting it being just a HDD issue (wish it was since I could just get a new one and be happy...), not an issue with Windows 7, or any driver issues.
I'm really at a loss here. My first instinct is to open it up and try to figure it out myself, but I can't do that without voiding the warranty on the whole system. So, what do I do? Can anyone help me figure it out?
