BOOTMGR Missing - Looping restart

I refromatted my hard drive and am trying to reinstall from the restore disks I ordered from HP.  I keep getting "BOOTMGR Missing Press ctrl-alt-delete to restart".  I have tried everything from using the HP Disks to a Dell restore disk but within a few seconds the power goes out and it restarts the process over again.  This loop continues even when I look at the bios or any other function.  Within 5 seconds, the power will shut off and it will come back on.  I can hear the CD running and when I eject it, the disk is spinning so I am assuming the drive is okay.  Any ideas?

I guess maybe your boot order is not correct in terms of booting from cd rom drive first.
Look in bios or use the quick access key (google for details) to bring up a boot selection option menu if supported on your model.

  • Bootmgr missing after recovery discs

    Hello,
So I have recently had to factory reset my laptop which wiped everything clean including losing a restore point. I purchased the 3 recovery discs from HP 2 x Win 7 recovery media DVD's (Part 1 and 2) and the application and driver recovery DVD.
When going through the restore process the 2 recovery discs were absolutely fine whether the app and driver DVD was ejected after 5 seconds saying the computer didn't need it and it would be recovered from the hardrive. When I press finish and it restarts itself the screen goes black and comes up with a message saying "BOOTMGR MISSING CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart".
The order of the boot menu is the internal CD/DVD ROM first then the hardrive which I worked out in the BIOS menu.
Not sure what to do next especially as it doesn't want to accept the app and driver dvd. And have tested the HDD and Memory both passed no problem. I have tried removing the HDD and rehousing it then retesting it but made no difference to result.
    Help!

    HI @Grantc42 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers and information!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that when you tried to do a recovery from the disks supplied by HP after the first two it informed you that the remaining two were not required and would be recovered from the hard drive.  The boot order is set to optical drive first and hard drive second.  When you tried to boot to the hard drive you received the error ""BOOTMGR MISSING CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart.  You have tested the hard drive and memory and no issues were found
Try changing the boot order to hard drive first
Restore the defaults from the bios screen. This will allow it to scan for the attached hard ware.
If the issue remains, I would try a full recovery one more time and if the issue remains contact HP support for further assistance.

  • BOOTMGR Missing during reimage

Been having trouble with my Satellite P755-S5120 for a while. It would turn off randomly while I was using it, and turn off or restart during boot up. So I backed up my files on an external hard drive and started the process to restore to factory condition. I got to the point where the Toshiba Recovery Wizard was up and running, initializing the process, when the laptop shut down. I waited a few minutes and nothing happened, then finally it restarted with the message "Bootmgr missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart"
Did a little research and found that if I had the Windows install disk (I do) I could repair my pc by booting from the cd. I see that to do this I need to go into the BIOS and change my settings to boot from CD. Problem is, when I turn on the computer it goes immediately to the bootmgr is missing, so I can't get to the BIOS to change the setting.
So, is there any way I can bypass this to get to the BIOS? Or any other steps I could take to get the system restore process going again?

Usually if tapping F2 doesn't work to get into the BIOS, try holding it as you start the laptop. You should also be able to get to the boot menu by tapping F12 or holding F12 as you start the laptop.

  • Notebook shows BOOTMGR missing after running return system to factory condition

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment notebook Model #dv7 3163cl. First I need to say I am a beginner user. My problem started with a low battery issue. Then using recovery mgr. I first ran back up disks and then attempted system restore. During which it shut off. When I tried to restart it it originally said something about starting like new from factory. Then said unable to load windows program. I contacted hp and tech had me purchase a 1 year phone support plan. Then had me go th the recovery manager and select restore to factory image. During which it gave this message. Recovery Manager could not restore computer using the fzctory image. Please contact HP support. Error code 0xe0ef0003. He said that meant I need a new hard drive. Now when I turn it on it says BOOTMGR Missing. Use ctrl apt Del to start but that does not work. It does nothing. Could the tech be right? Is there a way I can check my disk first? Or another way to tell? It wasn't the original problem so I'm not confident in his determination. Should I be?

Immediately after powering on tap the Esc key. This should bring up a menu of which F2 is what you want to choose. Use Diagnostics to test your hard drive.

  • Satellite M300: bootmgr missing after Recovery has failed

I tried to reinstall Vista using Toshiba recovery disk... when i tried to do it took long time to copy files and then it asked for next disk.
Even after inserting 2 disk it still asks for insert next disk... I had no choice and i cancelled it...
When i booted again it said bootmgr missing
    'CTRL+ALT+DELETE' to restart
I stuck up don't know what to do.
    pls tell me sme suggestions

    Hi
The error bootmgr missing appears because the Recovery procedure hasnt finished and the old bootmgr was destroyed.
It looks like your second DVD is not readable for no apparent reason.
Maybe you could try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Maybe the partition was not damage during the recovery procedure from DVD.
So press F8 after notebook was powered up. Choose first option called Repair my Computer. Choose last option Toshiba Recovery and try to recover the notebook from HDD.
If it doesnt work then you could boot from the original Vista DVD and could try to repair the boot manager.
In worst case you would have to reinstall the OS from the Microsoft Vista DVD or you will order a new Recovery DVD from Toshiba.
    Good luck

  • Bootmgr missing dv7t-4100

Have a dv7t-4100 whose disk drive would crash after 10 min of play when I first got it. Calling inti support didn't help and I didn't worry about it because I don't really use it.
So a year later my computer crashes and recovery wouldn't go past classpnp. So hp warranty sent me a new hard drive.
Now it'll go through the 2 recovery discs and ejects them. Then the final phase it freezes @a 12%. If I restart it, the bootmgr is missing. I've tried changing where it reads the cd drive first. I can get to system restore/repair before the bootmgr missing screen pops up. How do I repair this?

    Try the following process.
Download and create the bootable CD as described on the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-80183-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
When you have created this CD, insert it into the system that is unable to boot, restart it and wait until you see a window with a green check mark.  Then remove the CD.  Shutdown the notebook and start it again with no Disc inserted in the CD/DVD Drive.  Then insert your first Recovery DVD.  Restart the notebook and go through the process of installing the Operating System again.
If the above fails to correct the issue, post back with the full version of the operating system you are trying to install ( ie Windows 7 64bit ).

Formatting volumes (partitions) removes the operating system and recovery partition. I don't see that as an viable recovery or repair strategy.

  • Bootcamp not starting, BOOTMGR missing

Hello all, hope you're having happy holidays.  Anyways, I foolishly attempted to increase the size of my bootcamp partition using Disk Utility and failed, only creating a second partition for my Macintosh HD.  I deleted the second partition and attempted to re-allocate the space to the original Macintosh HD, but not only am I not able to do that but I can't boot back into Windows via Bootcamp.  When holding the option key while starting I only get the options "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery".  I do get the option to select Windows 7 as the startup disk under System Preferences, but while starting I get the error message "BOOTMGR Missing, Press any key to restart" and I my keyboard doesn't respond so I have to hold power to restart into OSX.  I've seen other users with this issue so I was hoping maybe someone could provide me with some help on this.  I have a Mid-2009 13-inch MacBook Pro, with a 2.53ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX 10.9.5.  Thank you for any help in advance.

Nevermind.  I created a Windows install "disc" using Bootcamp, a thumb drive, and my Windows iso.  Then I selected Windows as the startup disk under preferences and loaded into the Windows installer on the thumb drive.  I selected "repair this computer", rand "chkdsk" in the command prompt, and ran the automatic repair tool.  After it restarted I held option and Windows showed up on the startup disk options.  Thanks for nothin

  • Software Update not finding missing loops

I've just updated my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8) from iLife 09 to iLife 11.
In Garageband most of the loops are missing (greyed out). When I click on one I'm given the option of downloading later or now. When I choose 'now' it opens Software Update which searches for updates and tells me that all my software is up to date. If I click on a missing look again the message says that the software instrument or Apple Loop is currently being installed and that I should open Software Update for additional information.
How do I install all the missing loops if Software Update is telling me all my programs are up to date?

  • No Vintage Funk Kit 03 on Garageband 10.0.3. Am I missing Loops?

I'm running Garageband 10.0.3 but I don't seem to have certain famous loops such as 'Vintage Funk Kit 03'. I have made all in app purchases and have 3337 loops. Has 'Vintage Funk Kit 03' just been deleted from new versions of Garageband or am I missing loops? I'm not massively bothered about not having 'Vintage Funk Kit 03', I just wanted to check that I'm not missing anything.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Okay guys and gals, I figured it out... I hope they'll let me post the pic.  Basically, with the icon up on the corner pressed for controllers, you get a few new options.  For some reason, they were grey'd out unless I had the keyboard open at the time... but once I did I could fiddle with it.  Since the modulations for smart strings seem to be awfully specific, you wouldn't notice any difference with any fine changes, but I noticed it changed dramatically at about 50 and 70... 50 ended up being the pluck I was looking for.

  • Missing loops in the new GarageBand

Hi, I have installed the last version of GarageBand 10.0.1 (AppStore).
Where are the missing loops who was available with the previous version.
    For example :
    70s Ballad Piano 03.caf
    70s Ballad Piano 04.caf
    70s Ballad Piano 05.caf
    Thanks for help !

Don't know if this is still an issue for you, but I had a similar problem after upgrading; some loops from an old song I did were gone. I did a custom upload of the loops from GarageBand '08 install disc, which replaced the missing loops in my AppleLoop file. It also somehow deleted GB 10. I reinstalled GB from the App Store. Most of the loops were then available. Some were dimmed. Some were still missing from the list, even though they appeared in the Apple Loops folder. So I did a reindex of the loops and all now seems -- for the present, anyway -- to be working properly.
Another possible path I discovered too late: go to the link here, download the missing loops, place them in your Apple Loops folder in your system library. Then reindex the loops.
    http://www.ywamorlandomedia.com/media/audiofiles/Apple%20Loops%20for%20GarageBan d/
These are aif files but should work okay. I think the caf files are the same thing, only compressed.

  • BOOTMGR missing ( no data on laptop can be found)

Hi, I've purchased an HP Pivillion G6z notebook PC a month ago and my lil nefhew accidently knock down my laptop. it's shut down right away after that i try turing it back on again and again but the white letter keep showing up " BOOTMGR missing" I've tried to find many possibles ways to try and fix it but i chouldn't. I log into hp home site and try to fine the solutions and i have but the problem is that i do NOT think i have gotten a Recovery CD or anything. i've read many solution and all it's lead me to is the "recovery CD" so how do i get a recovery cd? how much does it cost? please help.

    Hi,
I would suggest trying the following procedure first of all - this should tell you whether there is a physical ( ie Hardware ) problem with the notebook of if the operating system just needs to be reinstalled.
If you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your original OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need.
If you don't have access to a retail disc, you can create an installation disc yourself on another PC - just download the correct Disc Image from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Any additional drivers you may need can be found Here.
    Does this install Ok?
