After applying outstanding patches i get the following message in all zones:

I do not have any ZFS filesystems configured in any zones or in the global system.

All printing fails

hello there.
since yesterday print commands from all programs fails to perfom and come up with errors
message on safari, preview etc says
print
error while printing
while on MS word (2004)
says
"word cannot print due to problem wiht the current printer.
make sure you have a printer selected in print centre. you may need to print again or adjust your printer settings."
I have checked the printer settings and it has selected an HP 1320 (one of the 10 printers which I have access to in the university network). Sophos (v4) have also come with a series of errors saying there is not enough memory to check certain folders. I do have about 5GB hdd and 512mb ram which was OK till yesterday
any suggestions

While your RAM should be sufficient at this time, its limited amount is one factor placing greater demands for free space on your HDD. Only 5GB free on your 80GB HDD might be the current problem. If not, as free space continues to dwindle, it most certainly will be important before long. 5GB free space is marginal, as you probably need at least 5GB for normal OS swap space. Some users report their OS X needs 10GB free space. You might be able to test your current needs by temporarily freeing up some space. Perhaps you have a couple of large apps that you don't use, that you could easily re-install from their discs. Deleting something like World Book and iDVD might together free up about 1GB of space. After rebooting, if you find you can suddenly print, you'll know you need to free up even more space to avoid potential problems.

I am trying to download Photoshop CC and CS6 and all download fail. I don't know what to do.

Can't reinstall CS3. "All Components Fail to Install"

I had been running CS3 on Windows Vista 32. First received, out of the blue, the dreaded error that licensing had stopped working. Was not able to rectify by the long list of ususual means. Finally was instructed by adobe tech support to uninstall CS3 and reinstall. Uninstall apparently successful (confirmed with Microsoft Fixit Tool that did find and fix some registry errors). Can't reinstall CS3 either from DVD or from desktop. Receive status report after install script finishes: "All Components Failed to Install." I have spent over 23 hours on this problem to no avail. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for the reply, but I did all that already. After much research and seeing what's worked for others, below is a rundown of what I've already tried... (much of my process below came from http://na-na-sa-ra.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-to-re-install-adobe-cs3-after.html which I too had found and had hoped would help.)
After attempting to uninstall CS3 from the control panel, I ran the Adobe CS3-5 cleaner, numerous times selecting various listed options during the script run. After running each time, I ran the MS Fixit tool (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall) that reportedly will "fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled". After each run of the MS Fixit tool, I attempted to reinstall CS3 - the install script would run for a good long while, showing (slow) progression of a status bar, but in the end give a status report saying that all components failed to install. Even though complete installation failed, Adobe CS3 would be on the list of programs in the control panel, so I would repeat an "uninstall" from the the control panel, and rerun the MS Fixit tool. Sometimes the MS Fixit tool would find/correct problems, othertimes it would report that no problems were found. I repeated this procedure for all the options given in the CS Cleaner Tool script without success. Thinking it might be a problem with attempting to install from the DVD (which has never been a problem before), it was suggested to try installation from the desktop (copied all DVD files to a desktop folder). Repeated the entire above process using the "desktop files" instead of the DVD. No luck. (...and phoning Adobe tech support was not productive - they sent me here to the forums.)
Really appreciate you trying to help. Have any other suggestions?

Is there any way to list the load (cpu, mem, swap) of all zones at once from the global zone?

That's the default. Especially since pages are shared between zones, it's not easy to give a memory figure for only one zone. And there is no swap separation.
Most of the CPU viewing utilities default to the system, but can be restricted to a single zone with a -Z flag (ps, prstat, ...)

i was gonna write out this big ol'dissertation about my futile attempts to get issues resolved with my shuffle but opted instead to go the short version....
when all else fails, carefully hold the ipod parallel to a desk, counter, or other hard surface and slap it down...hard!!
VOILA!!! It works!! for how long who knows but it sure beats all the headache i was faced to perform trying to get any tech support.

I have found that percussive maintenance is sometimes useful as a last resort.
If it worked for you and your iPod is now healthy, then it guess it wasn't wrong.
I don't recommend that everyone try this as it could certainly have disastrous results.

Patchadd problem: Cannot lock all zones

I cannot add patch 138889-03 because the patchadd returns an error: Cannot lock all zones. I have no log-files found, which explain anything. In the process list I have found a hanging command:

9726 /usr/bin/pkgadm lock -a -q -o zone.*/patch.* -w -W 300
Unfortunatly the man page knows no subcommand lock for pkgadm.
Can anybody explain what Solaris 10 138889-02 is donig there?

I also faced same problem when installing vxvm patch 123220-04. At that time I simply halted the all non-global zones. After that it succeeded the installation.

There might be some inherent limits which you can not simply avoid just by hacking the headers. It was recently posted to another topic:

When you are looking at the page append the following at the end of your URL: ?contents=1
Your URL should look something like this:
http://contoso/site/default.aspx?contents=1
This will open the web part maintenance page. How many web parts are listed? You might have a large number of closed web parts that aren't showing on the page but are actually still there.

Hello Arch Forums! I'm compiling prboom and alephone. Both give me the same error,

This sounds like a problem that is specific to the package or the code itself. I'm don't use either of those, but I can give you some general recommendations.
`pacman -Syu` has been known to fix compilation errors when a package depends on a header file that is owned by another package. Unfortunately this works the other way around, too: the packages you're trying to install might depend on an older header file that has been upgraded by pacman. The latter is usually a result of outdated code and is much harder to fix.
`grep png_error_ptr_NULL -R /usr/include` will show you which header files the identifier appears in (if any). One of them should contain the declaration, so make sure that file is #include'd in i_sshot.c
For best results, I recommend contacting the package maintainer, posting a comment on the AUR package page, or contacting upstream directly. Those users are likely to be more knowledgeable about this software than the rest of us on the forum.

Zone create not installing all zone root files

I'm installing a new T5240 Solaris 10 u6 10/08 with the 10_Recommended patch kit from 09 Dec 2008. The system is jumpstarted with /, /usr, /var, /export/home on SVM mirrored internal 146g drives. When I first got the server up and running, I tested zone creation with a default zone setup:

This worked, so I removed it and continued with the server configuration:
The nxge0 interface has been configured with 802.1q vlan (nxge103000) and is successfully on the network. I configured MPX/IO on the pair of fp interfaces. I've added a disk from our HP EVA SAN array and created a ZFS pool and filesystem for the zoneroot, mounted at /opt/zones/zoneroots/oraprod1.
Now, when I try to recreate the test zone it now fails to copy all of the required files to the root, puts many errors into the install log about files changed in the global-zone root after installation and won't boot the zone past single-user maintenance mode.
The zone create now shows: (after adjusting the phys net i/f name)

Yes, I've reproduced the problem with and without the '-b' option on create, on UFS as well as ZFS filesystem and on /export/home/zones on the local drive.
My plan now is to walk thru the configuration process one step at a time, trying to create the zone at each step. I re-jumped the server last night and created the zone correctly. I then removed it, installed patches in single user, rebooted with "-r" and was able to recreate the zone. I've enabled mpxio and i can still create the zone. Next up tonight is to add the 802.1Q configuration, add the ZFS rootzone and run our custom scripts that to server hardening, user setup, etc.
There was one bug report that sounded "interesting" having to do with a patch set that wasn't zone-friendly as it left patch files in place w/o fixing the manifests so when the zone create ran it found files that didn't match the checksums or whatever is used to validate file correctness when copying files into the zone.
I'll keep updating this with my progress and findings.

Itunes 10.6.1.7 windows-restoring all devices fails! help!!

i updated itunes to the latest(10.6.1.7), and wanted to restore my (unjailbroken, btw) iphone 4S on 5.1, to 5.1, but failed, giving me error 3194.
i then tried restoring my (also not jailbroken) iphone 4 on 5.1 but it gave me the same error!
im suspecting this is due to the itunes update, as before the update, restoring was always fine and fast with no errors at all.
i need to restore badly cos of the battery issues and according to many of my friends, restoring makes it much better...
anybody encountering the same problem? or can anybody help please?

Try updating the security software on your computer. If that doesn't do it, try to turn it off and test again.

All downloads failing to mount and iTunes not recognising iPod!

My iBook G4 (Model No A 1055) needs alot of updates however i can't install anything. It downloads to the Desktop fine but when i go to open the attachment so i can actually install it a message comes up saing "The following disk images failed to mount" and the reason is a "corrupt image". I have tried to do this with Firefox, iTunes and Adobe and they all say the same!
I also now have issues with iTunes (7.2) which is all of a sudden not recognising my iPod shuffle (2nd gen). It doesn't come up in devices or anything when plugged in my iPod shuffle will just flash orange a few times and then nothing. I have tried to connect it to another (and much newer) Mac computer however it doesn't recognise it on there either.
Has technology just got so good my lappy is basically extinct and i need a new one or is there something i / Apple can do to help get me up to date with everything? Any help and feedback would be really appreciated.

if you are running OS 10.3, it's pretty much obsolete
you can try getting OS 10.5 installed, but it can slow down the computer, 10.4 is not much use anymore either.
