Border Action

Hi,
Just wondering how to create an action that will create a border for images of multiple sizes.
I know how to create an action that will create a border of a specific size, however i have different image sizes and want to create a border that is the same width for these different sizes. ie an image by 500 mm by 300 mm  i would like a border of 60mm but i was wondering if i could create a action that would also apply a 60mm border for a 480mm by 290 mm image.
Any ways on how to do this.
Thanks

Yet again something that is staring me right in the face!
Thanks for that this will save me so much time in post processing.
cheers

  • How to create a single action for adding a border and signature for portrait AND landscape images???

    i would love to be able to create a single photoshop action for adding a border, plus a signature in the bottom right corner, that works for both portrait and landscape images.
    need i say more?!
    i already have an action that adds a signature in the centre of the border at the bottom of the image e.g. the image below. what i want though is for that signature to be on the RHS and for the same action to work for portrait images as well.
    supplementary info: reason for this is that I want to be able to export 300 wedding images (mix of landscape and portrait images) from lightroom in my pre-selected order (meaning the files are labelled from 001 to 300, ordered according to how the wedding day unfolded) and then use PS to add the border and the signature, in the same place, and for it to work for both orientations.
    i need this to work for full sized exported jpeg images, i.e. i want the files that i give on CD to my clients to include my signature in this manner. so I don't want to copy the initial layer and then reduce the second layer size to leave a border around the second layer.
    i hope i've been clear and that someone can help me here. I think that this sort of presentation makes such a difference to final printed image, and I DONT want to have to go to all 300 images picking out the landscape from portrait ones (although this may be what I have to do and wouldn't really take that long but surely there's a better way!!!!).
    Thanks in advance photoshoppers ...

    It is actually quite easy to do if you have a good understanding of how Photoshop works.  To be able to handle any size Landscape and Portrait you need to scale the document to a known width or height.  Once the document is resized to the width or height it easy.  When yot resize the document you use Image size with resample NOT checked.  Not a single image pixels is changed all the happens is the documents DPI is set to the proper DPI resolution to print that size.  This lets you add a border sized for and document.  You can use Canvas Size check relative and  leatve the anchor point centered and set width and height to 2" this will add 1"on all sides. Use Canvas size a second time move the anchor point to the top center check relative and set height 1" the will add an additional 1" border on the bottom.  You then record a text layer with your Name title or what ever to the top left of the image. Select all ant the align the text layer to the selection to move it to the bottom right.
    Adding a couple of scripts to the action you can make sure there is a background layer so the added canvas will be filled with pixels.  You can restore the document to its original DPI resolution to retain the images print size. Down load my crafting actions package it contains a dozen scripts to be used within actions. There are text file with tips and guidelines additionaly there is one on dealing with document size and includes a sample action set with a watermarking action the can watermark and size image. The Action set is also saved as a text file with additional comments I added my downloads can be found here http://mouseprints.net/Photoshop.html

  • Selection Tool to select "Exact Border" of an Image in Action

    Hi,
    Is there a better way to select the "Exact Border of An Image" instead of using "Rectangular Marquee Tool" manually?

    If the BG is uniformely colored, obviously Edit --> Trim using the top left corner color may work. Otherwise - no.

  • Automator action with dropdown to make folders with predetermined names

    Is there an action/workflow that will allow me to create Folders using a dropdown menu of predetermined names for those folders?

    I haven't seen one, and since no one has posted about one yet, I'll throw this out.
    I modified a couple of handlers I have laying around into a Run AppleScript action that will make folders from a list of names. The list can be set in a Get Specified Text action, with the "menu" being a Choose from List action:
    Tested workflow:
    1) Get Specified Text (your folder names, separated by returns) for example:
    Testing
    Another test
    My Spiffy New Folder
    2) Filter Paragraphs (Return paragraphs that are not empty)
    3) Choose from List (Prompt: Please choose folder names:)
    4) Run AppleScript:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into an Automator 'Run AppleScript' action">
    on run {input, parameters}

    output: a list of Finder items (aliases) created

    set DestinationFolder to DestinationFolder as alias

    end try
    repeat with AnItem in the input
    GetUniqueName for AnItem from DestinationFolder -- avoid duplicates
    try
    tell application "Finder" to make new folder at DestinationFolder with properties {name:the result}
    set the end of the output to the result as alias
    end try
    end repeat
    return output
    end run
    to GetUniqueName for SomeName from SomeFolder
    check if SomeName exists in SomeFolder, creating a new unique name if needed
    parameters - SomeName [text]: a name.extension to check for
    SomeFolder [mixed]: a folder to check
    returns [text]: a unique name
    set {Counter, Divider} to {"00", "_"}
    set Here to -(offset of "." in ((reverse of text items of SomeName) as text)) - 1
    set TheName to text 1 thru Here of SomeName
    if Here is -1 then -- no extension
    set TheExtension to ""
    else
    set TheExtension to text (Here + 1) thru -1 of SomeName
    end if
    set NewName to TheName & TheExtension
    tell application "System Events" to tell (get name of items of folder (SomeFolder as text))
    repeat while it contains NewName
    set Counter to text 2 thru -1 of ((100 + Counter + 1) as text) -- leading zero
    set NewName to TheName & Divider & Counter & TheExtension
    end repeat
    end tell
    return NewName
    end GetUniqueName</pre>
    - the output from the Run AppleScript action is a list of aliases to the folders created, if you want that information to do something with.

  • Unzip/Unstuff Folder Action

    I wanted to set up a folder in which a file would automatically unzip/unstuff once it is done downloading from an FTP site, and V.K. in the Automator board showed me this applescript:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;" title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    property DELAYTIMESECONDS : 5 -- How long to wait between checking file size.
    on adding folder items to thisFolder after receiving theItems
    repeat with f in theItems
    set oldSize to 0
    set newSize to -1
    -- When newSize equals oldSize, it means the copy is complete because the size hasn't changed.
    repeat while newSize ≠ oldSize
    -- Get the file size.
    set oldSize to size of (info for f)
    delay DELAYTIMESECONDS
    -- Sample the size again after delay for comparison.
    set newSize to size of (info for f)
    end repeat
    -- Do your processing here on file f.
    tell application "Finder" to open f
    -- thats where my processing should start for each file
    end repeat
    -- Or start processing here to wait for all files to be complete.
    end adding folder items to</pre>
    I attached it to a folder, and it works, but only on the first file. If I let multiple files download concurrently, the script never kicks in for the second, third, etc. file. Can the applescript be modified so that it hits every file that is, eventually, saved to the folder?

    The problem is that the folder action gets triggered the minute something gets added to the folder. This works when everything is added at once, but if there is much of a time delay between adding items there can be a problem, since repeatedly firing off the same folder action script on the same folder with different items doesn't seem to work very well.
    Another thing to try would be to just look at the folder itself to stop changing size. After the folder has stopped changing size (presumably because the files have finished downloading), all of the files would then be processed. The items would need to be moved somewhere during the processing, so that the next time the folder action is triggered, it would just be processing the new items (if the processing just gets all of the files, a sub folder could be used).
    The following folder action is similar to what you were using, it just looks at the folder size.
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;

    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"

  • Report Generation broken after deployment - Excel Set Cell Color and Border.vi

    Upon deployment, the Excel Set Cell Color and Border.vi became broken.  After installing LV2010 SP1 to view the VIs in the deployment, I noticed that in the second case structure where the code draws the border using the BorderAround invoke node, there is an extra variant input parameter named 'Parameters'.  Upon right-clicking, an option to 'Relink Invoke Node' appeared and after selecting this, the extra input disappeared and the VI was no longer broken.
    Why does "Relink Invoke Node" appear?  How do I create a deployment with this issue?  Has anybody else experienced this?  Why is the TestStand deployment so buggy?

    Hi Ching-Hwa,
    I have set up a test deployment here where I am deploying a workspace that contains a sequence file.  This sequence file has a LabVIEW Action Step calling a VI that opens a new Excel file and simply calls the Excel Set Cell Color and Border VI.  After deploying this, both the VI and my test sequence ran on the deployment machine without error.  Therefore, I do have some more questions to more accurately reproduce what you are seeing.
    First, what operating systems are you developing on and deploying to?  Also, what license do you have for TestStand on the machine you are deploying to?  If you have a development version, can you manually take the sequence file and VI to this machine and run it?  I know you now have LabVIEW 2010 SP1 on your development machine, but if you have the development version of TestStand as well, it would be interesting to see if you copy the files over if you still see this behavior.  Are you including the TestStand Engine in the deployment?
    Can you open a blank VI on the deployment machine and add the Excel Set Cell Color and Border VI?  It would also be interesting to see if this is not a product of the deployment, but rather an issue with something on the deployment machine itself.  What version of the Report Generation Toolkit do you have on each machine?  Also, what versions of Excel are you using on the development and deployment machine?  Again, it would be helpful for me to know exactly what versions you have installed on both the development and deployment machines so that I can reproduce this as accurately as possible.
    One last thing to try, too, would be to try deploying the VI by itself just to see if it also has the same behavior.  Do you have the Application Builder in LabVIEW?  If so, could you also try building an executable from the VI, create an installer, and deploy this to the deployment machine?
    In regards to the "freezing" of code by removing the block diagrams, I do not believe this will be a proper work around in this case.  While this removes the block diagram from actually being deployed along with the VI and restricts users from editing the code on the deployment machine, if something is getting changed in the compiled code upon deployment, this will not stop this from happening.  This option is available more as a memory option to lower the size of the deployment as well as prohibit any users on the development machine from editing the block diagram themselves.
    Thanks, Ching-Hwa!  I look forward to your response so that I can continue trying to reproduce this issue.  Have a great day!

    Im currently trying to take all the validation out of the mail script and do it in the html page itself.
    Bad choice.   Client-side form validation isn't secure  and it does not work if JavaScript is disabled.  A fair number of people turn off JavaScript or use one of the No-Scripts Add-ons in their browsers for perceived security reasons.
    Don't forget, spam bots don't use JavaScript either so they will penetrate your forms without missing a beat.
    Server-side validation is very reliable.  And if your script is built properly, it can stop robot submissions and exploitation of your forms which is very important these days.

  • Sidebar moving over right border of website and outside of main container

    Hi
    I'm doing a website and have a question.
    I have a left nav bar, a fluid center column and an absolute positioned right sidebar.
    The sidebar is set to clear left and float right.
    However the sidebar moves over to the right and extends past the right border on some browsers.
    It moves out of the main container and I would like it to remain within it.
    Does anyone know how I can fix it so that the sidebar stays within the white area and does not move to the right?
    Thanks for your help!!!!
    Here is a screen shot
    When the browser window gets a little smaller the sidebar goes back to where I want it.

    /* ~~ These are the columns for the layout. ~~
    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
    2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
    3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
    4) If you prefer your nav on the right instead of the left, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all right instead of all left) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.

    Absolute positioning will always cause you problems so it's best to avoid unless absolutely necessary.
    Having said that, your layout issues were a straight-forward fix. Modify your style sheet with the below sections and and it should be ok. You might need to modify your CSS for smaller screens as once you reduce the browser window to about 500px, the right sidebar disappears. Something to be aware of.

    EDIT:// I meant to say, you should probably spend some time tidying up your CSS as they are not in any obvious order and can get confusing with multiple styles for the same element. Having a clean and easy to understand CSS sheet makes it easier for you to figure out what is wrong. Will help you enormously in the long run.

  • Weird scroll behavior in Folder with actions attached

    My downloads folder has an action that is performed when files are added. Now when scrolling down the contents within List mode, it will randomly jump back to whatever file I have selected. Is this expected behavior with folders that have actions attached? Anyway around it?

    OS Lucinity wrote:
    Wow, you're right! When I delete the .DS_Store file it scrolls properly, until the time when it again adds the .DS_Store file. I'm guessing that the action is corrupting the .DS_Store file.
    for f in "$@"
    do
    touch "$f"
    done
    it really shouldn't be doing this if you are running this command on added files only. by I guess when the system updates the .DS_store file in this folder it first deletes the current one and only then writes out the new one. I know that's how it works with the plists. then it would probably run this command on .DS_store and that can easily cause the behavior you are seeing. you might try modifying the the folder action to ignore the .DS_store file. that will look like this
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    for f in ~/Desktop/3/*
    do
    if  [ $(basename "$f") != .DS_Store ]
     then
    echo $f
    fi
    done</pre>
    I found this app to remove folder actions. Wierd that I don't see a Folder Actions tab in my Finder contextual menu
    it's there in the services submenu.

  • Action / actionListener in h:commandButton with managed beans

    I have a problem with a backing bean whose method is not invoked when i click it. I've seen some posts on here about this yet, I still don't understand what I am doing wrong, if anything.
    Some context...I've modeled my application after 'jcatalog' from this article:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-07-2004/jw-0719-jsf.html . It's simpler than the article -- I'm not using Spring/Hibernate and the persistence is the file system. For each business object (Resource), there's a backing bean (ResourceBean).
    In short, I can't get the backing bean to respond to the button event for 'Add' bound to addAction. This is just like the jcatalog 'createProduct' impl -- which doesn't use the (FacesEvent fe ) approach.
    Anyway, I would appreciate anyone's help to get past this.

    (Below are the codes...)
    Here's my beans-config.xml:

    Hey, anyway, have you note your jsp reference to the backing bean begins with a lowercase letter, and your backing bean class name begins with an uppercase letter?? I think that's it... I think, cause I'm too unexperienced in JSF.... Bye!!

  • Infinite loop - "Some actions taken while...offline could not be completed"

    I have 4 IMAP accounts (.Mac, Gmail and 2 at SpamArrest). Occasionally, I get in this infuriating state where I keep getting the following error:
    "Some actions taken while the account "ClickMarkets-SA" was offline could not be complete online.
    Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other message in mailbox "INBOX.Sent Messages" in "On My Mac" so that you can complete the
    actions while online.
    Additional information: The connection to the server "mail.spamarrest.com" on port 993 timed out."
    The only way I've found to resolve this infinite loop of messages (which subsequently backs up all other mail processing) is to quit mail, then cd to ~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/.OfflineCache and delete everything in there then relaunch mail.
    In each cases, I end up with a mailbox folder (Sent or Drafts) in the folder "On My Mac" which has one copy for each attempt at handling the message "online."
    I opened up the Connection Doctor and looked at the log details and saw that Mail is opening a socket to spamarrest and starting an APPEND operation on my INBOX.Drafts folder -- I have "store drafts on server" checked. It appears the APPEND operation is hanging and causing a timeout (see transcript below). This happens every 60 seconds. The error that I see after the timeout is:
    * BYE [ALERT] Fatal error: INTERNAL ERROR: Keyword hashtable memory corruption.: Input/output error
    Who's Fatal error is that?
    SpamArrest is trying to tell me the problem is with both of my computers and not their server. (Yes, this is hitting both my MacBook Pro and my iMac). Can anyone shed some more light on this? IMAP should be able to handle multiple computers so I don't see that as a problem. Is my Mail app not following protocol? Is it a filesystem issue (e.g. SpamArrest doesn't like the name of the folder)?
    Thanks.
    Chip

  • Fill in the blank and advanced actions

    Hi everyone,
    I'm wondering whether this can be accomplished with fill in the blanks standard quiz question or whether I need use Advanced Actions.
    I have a graphic of a form that needs to be correctly filled out with specific values. There are multiple fields on each graphic/slide. I want all fields to be filled in correctly to get the question (slide) correct. I also want to be able to adjust to fields to have an invisible border and no inset so they are invisible on top of the the graphic.
    Is this possible using a standard fill in the blank question slide (I couldn't really figure it out) or is this something that I should be looking at Advanced Actions to accomplish? If Advanced Actions will be required, does anyone have an example?
    I appreciate the assistance!

    Hello,
    With the default FIB you are a bit limited especially concerning the field to be filled in. Advanced actions will give you more control. Would need some more details, but I did blog about constructing all kinds of questions. Here is one link to a post that has a FIB question:
    Extended TextArea widget for custom questions
    This will not be exactly what you are looking for, but perhaps give you some idea about what is possible. Are you familiar with advanced actions?

  • How do I make a Mail Rule action bounce a message

    Is there a way to have a Mail Rule action bounce a message?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jeff

    paste the following into Applescript Editor and save it as a script
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    using terms from application "Mail"
    on perform mail action with messages selectedMsgs
    repeat with msg in selectedMsgs
    tell application "Mail"
    bounce msg
    end tell
    end repeat
    end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from</pre>
    then have your Mail rule execute this script.

  • Dynamic Action on DOM object not working

    Thru a dynamic action I am executing PL/SQL Code that creates additional item using APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX (see code on bottom). Thru another Dynamic action, I am trying to execute additional Java. I have it set to fire like this:
    Event: Click
    Type: DOM Object
    DOM Object: document.forms[0].f11 (this matches the APEX_ITEM.checkbox fxx value)
    Just trying a simple alert("hi"). doesn't work. Am I missing something?
    DECLARE
    l_hold_table_name varchar2(1000) := :P1223_HOLD_TABLE_NAME;
    l_hold_html varchar2(32000) := '';
    l_hold_session_state varchar2(32000) := '';
    CURSOR get_columns IS
    select b.column_heading, b.column_name
    from dual
    BEGIN
    l_hold_html := '<DIV><TABLE border="2"><THEAD><TR><TH>' || l_hold_table_name ||
    '</TH></TR></THEAD>';
    FOR x in get_columns LOOP
    l_hold_html := l_hold_html || '<TR><TD>' || APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX(20,x.column_name,null) || x.column_heading || '</TD></TR>';
    END LOOP;
    l_hold_html := l_hold_html || '</TABLE><DIV>';
    :P1223_HOLD_INNERHTML := l_hold_html;
    END;

    Hi,
    first your code in example does not compile.
    CURSOR get_columns IS
    select b.column_heading, b.column_name
    from dual
    There is a ; missing and even with that this query is not OK.
    If you have a problem with DOM selector, then try jquery selector:
    Event:Click
    Selection Type: jQuery Selector
    jQuery Selector: input:checkbox[name*='f11']
    For testing I created a test page with one dynamic PLSQL region and following source:
    DECLARE
      l_hold_table_name varchar2(1000) := 'MYTABLE';
      l_hold_html varchar2(32000) := '';
      l_hold_session_state varchar2(32000) := '';
      CURSOR get_columns IS
      select
        'My Checkbox' column_heading, 'a' column_name
      from dual ;
    BEGIN
      l_hold_html := '<TABLE border="2"><THEAD><TR><TH>'
                              || l_hold_table_name
                              || '</TH></TR></THEAD>';
      FOR x in get_columns LOOP
        l_hold_html := l_hold_html ||
                                '<TR><TD>' ||
                                APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX(20,x.column_name,null) ||
                                x.column_heading ||
                                '</TD></TR>';
      END LOOP;
      l_hold_html := l_hold_html || '</TABLE>';
      htp.p( l_hold_html );
    END;And Dynamic Action with properties as described above (only that in my case name of the checkbox is f20)
    You can see working example here : http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=60428:4
